Kim Kardashian has eclipsed Kendall Jenner’s Instagram follower tally, but critics are accusing her of purchasing fake fans to reclaim the crown. All these years, while we watch Keeping up with the Kardashians online , we rarely think of how daunting it must be for them to keep up. Especially regarding social media followers, the pressure to stay on top has to be intense. Especially if you’re cash cow Kim Kardashian. Undeniably the most famous of her siblings, Kim has recently seen her status as most “liked” threatened by Kylie and Kendall Jenner . Not for long. The 34-year-old took to her Twitter to share news that she “woke up to over 40 million Instagram followers.” Like, OMG! That jump of over three million in one week was met with skepticism, however. Three million new people just decided to follow Kim? Kim came under fire in December when Instagram’s purge of fake accounts showed that she had more than 1.3 million bogus fans. Buying followers is a common practice for people looking to boost their totals, and is increasingly easy to do even for amateurs. Why would Special KK care about something so petty? Well … This is sort of all she does for a living. She does it well, obviously, given her immense fame and wealth, but just saying. Too many fame-hungry girls in one family? It’s not that hard to believe in other words. Says a source: “Kim has been really bothered by the fact that some of her family members, specifically Kendall, have been catching up to her.” “She’s jealous and she is not having it at all.” “Kim has made it very clear to all of her family that she will never allow any of them to have more followers than she does.” “Her jealousy,” the source adds, “is just pathetic.” That it is … and the younger ones know it. Being younger and hotter and more in touch with their fans, they needle Kim with it, too. On July 1, for example, Kendall got more likes on one photo in a single day than Kim and hubby Kanye West’s wedding photo. Jenner even wrote, “Take That KimYe!” Kim’s follower bump was swift retribution … so swift, it’s a little fishy, especially when you look at the numbers a little deeper. Going back to 2007, no one in the family has added more than 1 million followers to Instagram or Twitter in a one-month span. Considering that this is 2015, the number of new users just getting into these networks has to be dwindling, not growing, right? Makes you think. Says the family insider: “Kim just buys anything she wants and her social status is not something that she is ever going to be willing to compromise.” Consider the gauntlet thrown down, girls.
