Tyler Perry sent Oprah a bouquet of flowers for her 59th birthday Tuesday. Nice. Apparently it wasn’t a small one, because she injured her back picking them up. Perry posted a mea culpa on Facebook, under the title, “I Feel So Bad.” “I like to send really large flower arrangements to people for whatever occasion. Well, I sent one to Oprah for her birthday. She strained her back picking it up,” he writes. “No joke! Feel better Oprah. Happy birthday. Sorry. :-(” “Next year I’m sending her one rose. :-)” The day before, Winfrey shared on Twitter that she was spending her birthday with longtime sweetheart Stedman Graham. “Enjoying lunch with Stedman. No plans to leave p.j.’s all day,” she wrote. The following day, she posted a picture of her surrounded with flowers (presumably Tyler’s) along with the words, “Thanks everyone for your birthday wishes.” Perry was still feeling bad, she posted a message for him too: “@tylerperry no need to feel bad, love the roses and got an extra day in bed. Can you say #icepack” Clearly there’s no hard feelngs. Winfrey inked a multi-year deal with Perry, under which he will executive produce, write and direct two new scripted series for OWN.

It’s Official: Tyler Perry Lands A Drama AND Comedy Series On OWN

Will you give him the benefit of the doubt and watch an episode? Our favorite minstrel man is back on network television with not one but two new shows that are set for production next year. Tyler Perry’s teamed up with his number one cheerleader Oprah and her OWN Network, where he’ll be writing, directing, and executive producing “The Haves and the Have Nots”; a drama about a family and their housekeeper and “Love Thy Neighbor”; a multicamera comedy set in a diner. According to The Hollywood Reporter , this is just the first two of many projects the duo’s got planned: Two months after inking Tyler Perry to an overall deal and announcing its move into scripted fare, OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network has announced the pair of series to be overseen by the multihyphenate. Perry will write, direct and executive produce a comedy and a drama for the Harpo and Discovery Communications joint venture, with both series hailing from his Tyler Perry Studios banner for OWN. The two entries will begin production early next year and bow in mid-2013. The Haves and the Have Nots is a drama about the dynamics of the affluent Cyrer family and the impoverished family of their housekeeper, Hanna, and the obstacles and secrets that exist within both. Love Thy Neighbor, meanwhile, is a multicamera comedy set at Love’s Diner, where every day the menu serves up good food, great laughs, valuable life lessons and a lot of love for its zany neighbors. Episode orders for both projects are unclear with additional writers and producers expected to be added. OWN inked Perry — the prolific writer, director, producer and actor behind the Madea features, among several other stage and small-screen projects — to a multiyear pact in October to produce original content for the cabler. Before the deal, Perry’s TV efforts were housed at Turner-owned TBS, where the network launched half-hours Tyler Perry’s House of Payne, Meet the Browns and For Better or Worse. Discovery Communications CEO David Zaslav, speaking Dec. 4 at the UBS Global Media and Communications Conference in London, expressed confidence in OWN, noting its recent ratings growth puts the channel as one of the top three growing networks and noting he expected it to be profitable in the second half of 2013 as he forecast its growth to go from 80 million to 85 million homes. “The cherry on top is we got Tyler Perry,” Zaslav told investors at the time. November marked OWN’s 10th consecutive month of year-over-year ratings growth. Will you watch? Images via WENN/tumblr

Kim Kardashian Teases Temptation Poster

Kim Kardashian’s new movie (yes, movie) has an official poster. The reality show and sex tape star is headed for the silver screen, and just posted the first movie poster for Tyler Perry’s Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor . Check out the tantalizing tease below … The poster isn’t much to write home about visually, but symbolically is a different story. Note the black snake in the shape of an apple and a woman’s profile. Woman, apple, temptation? There’s something there, people. We have no idea how anyone hires Kim Kardashian to be in a major motion picture (in theaters March 29, 2013!!!), but there is definitely something there. The film also stars Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Lance Gross, Vanessa Williams, Brandy Norwood and Robbie Jones, and is written and directed by Perry, obviously. It’s about “a woman who starts to get restless in her relationship and her choice to be with another man has a huge effect on the rest of her life.” Excited for Special K’s Tyler Perry movie debut ?   Yes! It actually sounds pretty good! Yes, if Ray J makes a naked cameo… Not even at gunpoint. View Poll »

Walmart Employee Walks Out On Strike And Gets A ‘No Trespassing’ Warning From Cops!!!

Her ex-boss called the police once she’d walked out of the store! According to The Huffington Post, 59-year-old Vanessa Farreira went on strike as the rest of her co-workers just stood there and stared. Farreira informed her manager publicly Wednesday morning that she was going on strike…Within a half hour, Farreira would be told by police outside that she was trespassing and ordered to leave. She’s worked in the store’s cake department for eight years, and she earns $11.90 an hour, she said. “I love to decorate cakes,” Farreira said Wednesday. “That’s my priority — to do my cakes the best I can.” As much as she loves her job, there’s plenty Farreira doesn’t like about her employer. According to Farreira, Walmart’s wages are too low for workers to survive on, and the company keeps too many of its employees on part-time status, leaving them to rely on government assistance to get by. “They pay low wages, then the taxpayers pick up the tab for food stamps and Medicaid,” Farreira said. “They need to take care of their people. They need to be responsible to their workers.” A few months ago, Farreira heard about the union-backed group OUR Walmart, which is orchestrating an as-yet-unknown number of strikes at Walmart stores throughout the country this week, throwing the world’s largest retailer into damage control just ahead of Black Friday. Farreira said she liked the idea of a group advocating for workers, so she joined. Farreira said she tried to recruit members, but it wasn’t easy. “They’re so scared,” Farreira said of her co-workers. “I couldn’t get anybody to join. They said, ‘You can’t fight Walmart.’” Whatever strikes hit Walmart stores this Friday, it’s likely only a small, perhaps miniscule fraction of the retailer’s 1.4-million member U.S. workforce will take part. And though news footage may show boisterous gatherings by activists outside stores, the more daring acts of protests will have been undertaken by individual workers like Farreira who walk out when there are no TV cameras around. In recent days, it became clear that if she went on strike she would probably do so alone. But Farreira said she felt compelled to walk out after an incident a few days ago. In a letter she’s filing with the National Labor Relations Board, Farreira accuses management of retaliating against her because of legally protected organizing in the workplace. Farreira said that on Saturday she received her first-ever “coaching” — a formal bit of Walmart disciplining that could help lead to dismissal down the road — after a customer complained about a problem with a cake order. Despite occasional problems with cakes in the past, Farreira said it was the only coaching she’s been given in eight years. She said she believes she was disciplined because she was a known member of OUR Walmart who might demonstrate on Black Friday. She said in her letter that she would withdraw her complaint if the coaching were removed from her file. “I’ve worked at Walmart and never had a writeup, no warning, no nothing,” Farreira said. “I’ve been in the baking industry in retail operations for 20 years and never [been] disciplined.” On Wednesday morning, Farreira said she and other employees were called to a meeting where the manager warned there might be distractions led by OUR Walmart surrounding the holiday. According to her own version, Farreira told her co-workers it was employees’ right to go on strike, and then things got “pretty hot.” A few workers said Farreira didn’t speak for them. Farreira said she was speaking for the ones who were afraid to say anything at all. To cool everybody off, Farreira said the manager tried to lead everybody in a “Walmart cheer.” “Why don’t you just quit?” Farreira said one co-worker told her. “I said I’ve got eight years invested in this place — I’m going to make it better,” Farreira said. After the meeting, Farreira said her manager came to the bakery with store security and asked her if she planned on disrupting the store on Black Friday or Thanksgiving. The manager offered an “open-door” discussion to talk about her grievances, which Farreira declined. Farreira gave her a letter informing her of her charge being filed with the labor board and then clocked out. By then, several family members had shown up to support Farreira, including her daughter, Tanya Russ, who said the scene was “awkward and tense.” “Everybody was looking, but nobody was saying anything,” Russ said. “The other workers, they were looking but everybody got really quiet. Then I just said, ‘Walk out.’ So we walked out.” Russ noted that her mother is in a better position than many workers, since her husband has a good job and they’re less dependent on her wages. “She didn’t have to do this,” Russ said. “She’s not in a position [many] workers are where they live off the government and don’t have a car and don’t know how the bills will get paid. She’s standing up for them and for her future co-workers.” The police soon arrived, took down their information and ordered them to leave because they were trespassing (the police order comes at the end of the video below). According to Sgt. Denise Roberts of the St. Cloud Police Department, the police issued the trespassing warnings at Walmart’s request. They were not given summonses because no civil or criminal charges will be filed. In all, more than 20 such warnings were given to people outside. “We did it on behalf of Walmart,” Roberts said. “Walmart just has a policy with this Black Friday that they don’t want anybody doing any demonstrations inside the store or outside.” Farreira has both Thanksgiving and Black Friday off, with her next shift set for Saturday. She’ll be spending the holiday at her daughter’s house with her family. She said she has much to be thankful for. “I’m blessed compared to other workers at Walmart,” she said. Do you think the strike will have a big effect on Walmart stores this coming weekend?? Images via

Making It Rain…Nia Long Scoops Up Lead Role In Tyler Perry Flick

Nia’s coming back to the big screen as one of Tyler Perry’s leads in his new film, Single Moms Club . Wendi McLendon-Covey (think Reno 911! and Bridesmaids ) and Colombian actress Zulay Henao are also starring in the film, but the fourth lead hasn’t been picked yet. According to MovieWeb , the film is still in pre-production and is set to release in 2014: The story centers on four very different single mothers, who are forced to come together after an incident at their children’s school. They create a support group where they discuss the obstacles of motherhood, and try to overcome their own challenges. Nia Long will play one of the mothers, Lydia, alongside Wendi McLendon-Covey as Jan and Zulay Henao as Esperanza. Tyler Perry will direct from his own screenplay, and he will also star in an unspecified role. Tyler Perry is also producing with Ozzie Areu and Matt Moore. Production is scheduled to begin at the end of November in Atlanta. We reported last month that Lionsgate will distribute. Single Mom’s Club comes to theaters May 9th, 2014 and stars Tyler Perry, William Levy, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Zulay Henao, Nia Long. The film is directed by Tyler Perry. We’re going to be positive on this one and just be thankful Madea isn’t going to make an appearance. Congrats Nia! Images via tumblr
