Mike Tyson Says He’s Not Ashamed Of His Rape Conviction Former heavyweight champion boxer Mike Tyson has seen many highs and lows throughout the course of his career and personal life, but the thing that “shames” him the most among his lengthy list of shortcomings is growing up poor. via Yahoo News It has been nearly 20 years since Mike Tyson, now 47, fought his most violent — and therefore memorable — bouts. He didn’t wear a robe or socks when he entered the ring — all he wore was a mean face that practically said, “I can kill you with one punch.” Tyson’s life outside the ring has been equally memorable and equally violent, and he has spared few details in his new autobiography Undisputed Truth. Asked by ABC News correspondent Paula Faris whether he felt any shame for his 1992 rape conviction or for biting off part of Evander Holyfield’s ear in 1997, Tyson admits, “None of that stuff shames me. Only thing that shames me is that I was really poor.” Tyson’s mother was an alcoholic who shuttled him from home to home in one of Brooklyn’s bleakest neighborhoods, Brownsville. He thought himself lucky if the roof over his head had heat and hot water. Iron Mike also goes int detail about his childhood as a juvenille delinquent. In an unguarded moment, Tyson confesses of his mother, “I wish I knew what to say to her to make her like me. I was never a good person.” By age 7, Tyson had stopped attending classes, slipping into school only for the free meals. A savvy pickpocket by age 9, he was on the fast track to becoming a career thief, breaking into neighborhood apartments and walking out with cash, electronics and guns. By the time he was 12, he was arrested 38 times and, just as disturbing, he was illiterate. “I was a criminal,” Tyson says. “In my neighborhood that made you a good guy — [being] able to steal money on your own without people helping you and take care of yourself.” Being a neighborhood thief didn’t protect Tyson from being bullied mercilessly by older kids. He was small for his age, spoke with a lisp and was an easy target — at least on the surface. How you can not be ashamed of the whole world viewing you as a rapist or an out-of-control mad man is beyond us….

Maybe it’s just us, but when Mike Tyson of all people is taking note of your violent tendencies and voicing concern, it may be time to rethink your life. Such is the case for Chris Brown, who the former boxing champ believes is too violent and headed down a dangerous path where he will pay the price. Mike Tyson Offers Advice to Chris Brown Tyson was a guest on the 95.5 PLJ Morning Show this morning when he was asked about Chris Brown, who was arrested for assault in D.C. Iron Mike, who’s battled anger issues in the past himself, weighed in on Chris. “I like and admire that little guy,” Tyson said. “I’m just worried about him.” Who admires Chris Brown? Great use of the word “little.” Mike did prison time for rape. Regarding that last point, Tyson says he knows from experience that if Chris doesn’t learn to control his rage, fans will turn on him. As will the law. “They’re gonna put him somewhere where that’s all they do is assault people,” Mike added , hinting at the Big House, and adding, “Chris should know this.” “If you’re not humble, this world will thrust humbleness upon you.” Not the kind of thrusting he did as an eight year old, either. You follow? In truth, Mike’s words are ones to live by … four or five years too late, perhaps. Chris, despite the felony assault charge being lowered to a misdemeanor , may pay a hefty price just the same – for beating Rihanna back in 2009. He could have his probation revoked regardless of whether he’s convicted, as he is required to obey all laws and clearly doesn’t care too much about that. Guilty of assault or not, the guy has some problems. Talk to THG: Should Chris Brown go to jail? Yes. Enough is enough, and he’ll never learn otherwise. No, let’s see how this case plays out in court. No! Step off haters! #TEAMBREEZY View Poll »
Mike Tyson, a celebrity whose career resume reads like no other – world boxing champion, convicted rapist, ear biter, Hangover star, Tony Awards singer – opened up to reporters at a press conference yesterday. Big, disturbing time. “I wanna change my life, I wanna live a different life now,” the 47-year old said. “I wanna live my sober life. I don’t wanna die. I’m on the verge of dying, because I’m a vicious alcoholic.” Tyson – who has been in rehab on three different occasions – went on to say he’s been living a lie and has been abusing substances for years… but is now six days sober and hopes to remain that way. Watch the admission and the reaction of reporters below: Mike Tyson on His Alcoholism: I’m Dying
