Dr. Dre Says Leaked ‘Under Pressure’ Was ‘An Incomplete Song’

Dre issues statement about the collaboration with Jay-Z that hit the Internet this week. By Shaheem Reid Dr. Dre Photo: Interscope Records Not this way, says Dr. Dre . He doesn’t want people to hear any of his music before it is done. On Wednesday, an incomplete version of the much-hyped Dre and Jay-Z duet “Under Pressure” leaked to the Internet, and the Doc responded on Thursday (June 17) on the Interscope website. Simply titled “Message from Dre,” the statement reads: “I want to set the record straight for everybody who’s been waiting to hear my music. The song that’s out on the Internet is an incomplete song that I’m still working on. When it’s ready, you’ll be hearing it from me.” “Under Pressure” is a song from Dre’s much-hyped Detox album . Neither the song nor the LP has a release date. In the meantime, Interscope and Dre are focused on releasing the potentially blockbuster project from Eminem, Recovery, which lands officially on Monday (June 22). The bootleg of “Under Pressure” has no chorus, at least not the version that was leaked. Keep in mind, Dre has been known to do a few different versions of his songs before he feels they are ready for public consumption. The leaked version featured the Compton icon batting leadoff. “The long-awaited Detox, bitch,” Dre said to commence the song. “But maybe I don’t wanna stop/ Maybe I don’t wanna quit/ Maybe I like ho’s/ Maybe I don’t want a wife/ Maybe I’m psycho/ … Maybe we need to breathe some life in this sh–/ Maybe we are the life of this sh–.” After a space with no vocals, where the chorus would presumably go, Jay-Z arrives on the song. “Dre, I think I need my sponsor,” he says. “Trying to grow, but I just can’t seem ta/ Having trouble cleaning up, I’m like FEMA/ All these little haters got me back with the nina/ Got me bringing guns to work, Gilbert Arenas,” the Jiggaman adds later in his bars. “I’m in this party/ I’m up to no good/ And I should be ducking these clubs, Tiger Woods.” Besides Jay-Z, the collaborators that Dre has had in the lab with him for Detox have been pretty impressive — as expected. Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube, the Game, Nas, R. Kelly, Scott Storch, T.I., Nas, 50 Cent and Eminem have all recorded with Dre over the past few years for the album. What do you think of the leaked version of “Under Pressure”? Is it possible for Detox to live up to the hype? Share your opinions in the comments. Related Artists Dr. Dre Jay-Z

Kristen Stewart ‘Not Worried’ About Her Next Career Move

‘I really just choose things instinctually,’ the ‘Eclipse’ star tells MTV News. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Kristen Stewart Photo: MTV News Kristen Stewart has it pretty good these days. She’s the female lead in one of the most successful movie franchises of all time. She’s managed to continue to do work in smaller films. And she pretty much has her pick of any film she’d like to do next. But the “Eclipse” star said all she’s focused on next in her career is not having to really focus on anything. “I feel less [career pressure] because I’m in such a stellar position,” she told MTV News. “I feel really indulgent, like I feel it’s really cool to be able to say, ‘I don’t know [what I’m doing] for the next couple years.’ I’m gonna focus on being an actor. Like, I want to make movies and stuff.” Stewart does have some projects lined up, including the “Breaking Dawn” flicks and “On the Road,” but she’s not worried about her otherwise-clear docket. “I want to do other stuff, but right now, it’s really cool just being like, ‘I don’t know what I’m going to do next year, but this year I’m doing this.’ I’m doing ‘On the Road’ and ‘Breaking Dawn,’ and that’s all that I know that I’m doing.” Stewart’s next big career choices will be made the way all her other decisions are: from her gut. “I’m not good at planning out my career,” she said. “But if I was, I’d probably feel pressure, but because I don’t and I really just choose things instinctually, I’m not worried about it.” We’ll be live at the L.A. premiere of “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” on Thursday, June 24. Dr. Dre’s ‘Under Pressure,’ Featuring Jay-Z, Leaks Online

Unfinished Detox track has no chorus and isn’t mixed or mastered. By Shaheem Reid Jay-Z and Dr. Dre (file) Photo: Getty Images Dr. Dre asked Jay-Z to “come holler,” and Jay delivered. The pair recorded the Detox song “Under Pressure” months ago, and an unfinished version leaked online Wednesday (June 16). The song isn’t mixed or mastered and has no chorus, but it offers more than an inkling of where the two legends are headed. “The long-awaited Detox, bitch,” Dre starts the song. “But maybe I don’t wanna stop/ Maybe I don’t wanna quit/ Maybe I like ho’s/ Maybe I don’t want a wife/ Maybe I’m psycho/ Maybe we need to breathe some life in this sh–/ Maybe we are the life of this sh–.” The chorus is conspicuously absent, then Hov comes in for the second verse. “Dre, I think I need my sponsor,” he says. “Trying to grow, but I just can’t seem ta/ Having trouble cleaning up like FEMA/ All these little haters got me back with the nina/ Got me bringing guns to work, Gilbert Arenas.” In the track, Hov says he’s addicted to the finer things, like drop-top coupes, watches and bowlegged girls from the projects. “I’m in this party/ I’m up to no good/ And I should be ducking these clubs, Tiger Woods.” “I smoke, I drink, I’m supposed to stop but I can’t,” Dre says to end the record. “N—as don’t ask why/ I’m high … I’m a weed head and I’mma treat every day like the weekend.” “Under Pressure” isn’t the only Detox song to leak. An unfinished track featuring T.I. and Nas was bootlegged last year, as was a song with R. Kelly and 50 Cent that turned into Before I Self Destruct ‘s “Could’ve Been You.” Outside of Detox, Dre has been working with Eminem, of course, and the Game on his new LP The R.E.D. Album. Dr. Dre Says Jay-Z Collaboration, ‘Under Pressure,’ Could Be Out In Two Weeks

Dre also tells CNBC’s Maria Bartiromo that long-awaited Detox LP is ‘definitely’ coming out this year. By Jayson Rodriguez Dr. Dre Photo: Denise Truscello/WireImage Dr. Dre’s long-awaited Detox LP is no longer just urban legend. The producer has announced that the first single, “Under Pressure,” featuring Jay-Z , will hit the airwaves this month. The West Coast hip-hop icon revealed the information Monday (April 6) during an interview on “Closing Bell With Maria Bartiromo” on CNBC. “Hopefully we’ll be releasing that in the next two weeks or so,” he said of the track. “And I’m definitely gonna be putting out the album this year. Finally. I think everyone is gonna be happy with it.” The move is the first tangible evidence that the album will actually be released. In the past, Dre has repeatedly attempted to assure fans that the follow-up to Dr. Dre 2001 (a.k.a. The Chronic 2001 ) would eventually see the light of day. But as the years passed and material for Detox instead landed on albums by Eminem and 50 Cent, fans compared Dr. Dre’s promises to those made by Axl Rose when he withheld a Guns N’ Roses follow-up album for 15 years until the 2008 release of Chinese Democracy. It’s been 11 years since Dre last released an album. But late last year, in an interview with MTV News, Dre told Jay-Z to “Come holler” and contribute to Detox. Over the weekend, Dre (via Jimmy Iovine) confirmed Jay-Z landed on the project when he spoke to ESPN while attending a Boston Red Sox vs. New York Yankees baseball game. Word first arose about the collaboration when E! correspondent Michael Yo tweeted late last month that the two worked on a song that Dre’s label, Interscope Records, was very happy about. In the meantime, Dre put the pressure on himself, telling Bartiromo he has no other projects on his plate at the time. “That’s it right now,” he said, referring to Detox. Just trying to finish this record, finally get it done and get it out and start promoting it.” What do you think about a Dr. Dre and Jay-Z collaboration?
