Lady Gaga’s New Album Will Be ‘Insane’

‘Look out for the unexpected when it comes to her,’ Gaga’s co-manager says of the follow-up to Born This Way. By James Montgomery Lady Gaga Photo: Jason Kempin/ Getty Images If there’s one positive that Lady Gaga fans can take from her decision to cancel a June 3 concert in Indonesia , perhaps it’s this: at least she’ll have more time to work on her album. Yes, though she’s currently in the midst of a two-year world tour, Gaga is already hard at work on the follow-up to 2011’s Born This Way and, according to her co-manager, she’s going to push the boundaries even further this time around (which is sure to please those Indonesian Islamic groups ). “There’s a lot of work to come, [I’m] very excited about it,” Vincent Herbert revealed in a new interview with website That Grape Juice. “[It’s] just [an] insane, great record. She’s on tour right now, but it’s just going to be a great record. Look out for the unexpected when it comes to her. We’re doing it on the road right now, so it’s a little hard, but it’s going to be great.” Herbert wouldn’t reveal specifics — tentative release date, title, who she’s been working with, etc. — about the new album, but the news that she’s recording on the road is actually in keeping with the way she began work on Born This Way, when standout tracks like “Marry The Night” took shape with producer Fernando Garibay during her long-running Monster Ball Tour. “I just kind of got on the American leg of the tour … and she goes, ‘I want to write another song that can define where I’m at with this album and my life,’ ” Garibay told MTV News last year. “I go back to the studio bus; I’m just working on parts … and then, two hours later, she comes offstage and she goes, ‘Do you have something to play me?’ And I go, ‘I do, actually.’ “So I played her the instrumental for ‘Marry the Night,’ and she goes, ‘Open up a mic,’ ” Garibay continued. “She starts laying down the whole song, like, off the cuff … right off the stage, using the energy of that crowd and going into the studio, it was amazing. I can’t compare it to anything.” What do you hope the Born This Way follow-up will sound like? Tell us in the comments section! Related Artists Lady Gaga

Lupe Fiasco’s ‘T.R.O.Y.’ Remake Is ‘Wack,’ Pete Rock Says

Catch Lupe Fiasco on ‘RapFix Live’ this Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET on MTV.com. By Rob Markman Lupe Fiasco Photo: Johnny Nunez/WireImage When Pete Rock and C.L. Smooth dropped “They Reminisce Over You (T.R.O.Y.)” 20 years ago, the celebrated rap duo was still reeling over the unexpected death of their dear friend Troy “Trouble T” Dixon of Heavy D & the Boyz. What began as the most personal of lyrical eulogies soon became an iconic hip-hop track, so when Lupe Fiasco reworked the “T.R.O.Y.” instrumental for his new single “Around My Way (Freedom Ain’t Free)” on Monday, things were all good until Pete Rock chimed in. “No disrespect to lupe fiasco and i like him alot but TROY should be left alone. Feel so violated, the beat is next to my heart and was made Outta anguish and pain. When it’s like that it should not be touched by no one,” Rock tweeted on Monday after hearing the track. While Lu’s new single clearly is a nod to “T.R.O.Y,” the original track isn’t exactly an original composition, as it samples from jazz musician Tom Scott’s 1967 song “Today.” It’s possible that “Around My Way,” which was produced by Simonsayz and B-Sidet, sampled a portion of their track from Scott’s version. This isn’t the first time that Lupe has paid homage to Pete Rock either, he once freestyled over the “Reminisce” beat for his “Dopeboys” freestyle with Wale and Kardinal Offishall. Lyrically, Lu continues to push rap’s topical boundaries on “Around My Way,” choosing to rhyme about social-political ills in Ghana and corruption in the oil industry. Rock stressed that he did not have a personal problem with the Chicago rapper, he just didn’t appreciate the remake. “I’m not flattered @ all. Dat sh– is wack, and the producer should be ashamed of his f–kin self. Smh,” he wrote . On Tuesday, Lupe began tweeting links to other “T.R.O.Y.” remakes, including Mann’s J.R. Rotem-produced “Reminisce” and a remixed version of the song which featured Journalist, Mr. Cheeks and Pete Rock and C.L. Smooth themselves. Finally Lupe took the high road and tweeted a YouTube link to the original Pete Rock and C.L. Smooth video with the hash tag “#20YearsLaterStillTheBest.” Catch Lupe Fiasco on this week’s “RapFix Live,” Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET on MTV.com. Do you side with Pete Rock? Believe It Or Not: Justin Bieber Unveils Album Cover!

Pop star tweets standard and deluxe album covers for June 19 release, cryptically telling fans, ‘expect the unexpected.’ By Katie Byrne Justin Bieber on his Believe album cover Photo: Justin Bieber/ Twitter Judging by the cover art for Justin Bieber ‘s Believe album, the 18-year-old pop star is well aware of one of his best assets: his boyish good looks. The cover, which Bieber tweeted on Friday evening (April 27), is simply a black-and-white close-up of his face with the word “BELIEVE” stamped in a yellow caution-tape font underneath. “Here is the #BELIEVEalbumCover standard version,” he tweeted, followed by a second tweet that included a sepia-toned version of the same image: “and this is the DELUXE #BELIEVEalbumCover – #52DAYS – excited? expect the unexpected.” After posting the Believe album cover on Friday, Bieber retweeted one fan’s over-the-top reaction to the artwork: “That awkward moment when I almost ran over a lady and hit the car in front of me cuz I saw the #BELIEVEAlbumCover lololol,” @julieannxoxo wrote. Bieber just revealed the June 19 Believe release date last week on “The Voice,” also bringing along a teaser from his yet-unreleased “Boyfriend” video. Even after revealing that sneak peek, Bieber was spotted shooting new scenes for the highly anticipated video, kissing a mystery brunette (hey, that’s not Selena!) on set. “The concept of this video, I mean, it’s not like a steady concept,” Bieber told MTV News while shooting the video back in March. “It’s not like ‘Justin follows this girl to this spot.’ No, it’s a bunch of amazing scenes: like a fire scene, we have an ice scene. “It’s kind of like bouncing back and forth,” he said. “And then there’s scenes of me and just a bunch of girl dancers, and just some great shots, great artistic shots, great shots of me smiling. It’s fun.” What do you think of the album cover? Let us know in the comments below! Related Artists Justin Bieber

Exclusive: Kaskade And Skrillex Team Up For ‘Lick It’ Video

Kaskade tells MTV News the duo did ‘the unexpected’ for the clip, which premiered Tuesday on MTV.com. By Akshay Bhansali Kaskade Photo: Getty Images When Kaskade first revealed that he and Skrillex had produced a song together , fans, artists and critics alike eagerly anticipated the event. Just what would a Kaskade/Skrill team-up sound like? The result was “Lick It,” the Fire and Ice standout that seamlessly integrates both of their sounds. “Collaborating with Skrillex for the track and video of ‘Lick It’ was one of the more unique opportunities I had when recording Fire & Ice, ” Kaskade told MTV News on Tuesday (April 17), the same day their collaborative “Lick It” video exclusively debuted on MTV.com. “Skrillex and I have different styles, but that is part of what made it fun. I like doing the unexpected, and this track and video is something truly distinctive.” After the kaleidoscopes and cityscapes of “Eyes” (featuring Mindy Gledhill), Rebecca and Fiona rocking out with ice skaters on “Turn It Down,” and Kaskade getting his “Sliver” on with Skylar Grey in “Room for Happiness,” the video for “Lick It” is a gritty, technically sophisticated endeavor, helmed by L.A.-based filmmaker Sean Stiegemeier, whose credits include Zedd’s “Shave It” video. “It was a great honor to work with these two artists,” Stiegemeier told MTV News. “The collaboration could not had been more ideal as a director. They would allow me to throw out some wild ideas and then work together towards a concept that we all created and enjoyed.” And wild it is. Filmed in snowy Iceland, the vid depicts a bloody An

‘American Idol’ Judges Save Jessica Sanchez

On a wild results show, front-runners Sanchez and Joshua Ledet face elimination, with the judges using their save to spare the diva. By James Montgomery Jessica Sanchez, Randy Jackson, Steven Tyler, Jennifer Lopez and Ryan Seacrest on “American Idol” Photo: Fox A shocking Thursday night on “American Idol” began with an onscreen pledge to “Expect the Unexpected,” and boy, did the show live up to that promise. Because, for the first time in the unusually staid 11th season, there really is no clear-cut front-runner, as perceived favorites were relegated to the bottom three and one potential champion was left to sing for her life — almost. After the final seven sang the songs of this decade on Wednesday night’s telecast, most assumed it would be permanent bottom-dweller Hollie Cavanagh sent packing, especially after the judges were left grasping for compliments following her performance of Pink’s “Perfect.” Instead, Cavanagh was spared elimination (and even a spot in the bottom three), and, after a few tense moments, in which front-runners like Colton Dixon and Skylar Laine were left twisting, it was revealed that, this week, the three on the chopping block were Elise Testone — no real surprise, given that she’s been in this position before — and, amazingly, a pair of championship hopefuls: Joshua Ledet and Jessica Sanchez. The judges were understandably shocked by the reveal — Randy Jackson even called the bottom three “ridiculous” — but the surprises didn’t end there. Host Ryan Seacrest would first announce that Ledet was safe, leaving only Testone and Sanchez clinging for their lives. After ratcheting up the tension to the nth degree, Seacrest announced that Testone was also safe, meaning Sanchez, the prodigiously talented, supremely cocky diva, was the week’s lowest vote-getter. In a way, it was fitting that former “Idol” castoff Jennifer Hudson performed earlier in the telecast, because a potential Sanchez exit would have been the most shocking moment on the show since Hudson was given the boot all the way back in 2004. And as the crowd whistled in disapproval, Sanchez grabbed the microphone to sing for the judges’ save — only to be interrupted by Jennifer Lopez, who shouted “Gimme that mic” and announced, along with Jackson and Steven Tyler, that Sanchez would remain in the competition. “We are saving Jessica without any doubt,” Jackson emphatically said. “This girl is one of the best singers in America ever!” The obviously shell-shocked Sanchez was then allowed to finish her song, and as the show came to a close, the judges urged “Idol” viewers to vote for the best contestant going forward. But after the night’s startling results — and without a judges’ save going forward — the deck has certainly been reshuffled, and the stakes are higher than ever before. Jonathan Cheban on Jon Hamm: What an Unpopular Mad Man!

Just when it seemed like the world’s most unexpected feud was dying down, Jonathan Cheban has stepped in to voice his take on Kim Kardashian’s war of words with Jon Hamm. How does the random reality star and hanger-on feel about the Mad Men actor dissing his BFF as an example of stupidity in our culture ? Words We Never Thought We’d Write: Are you on Team Cheban or Team Hamm? “I think Jon Hamm needs to just shut up and stop being such a mad man!” Cheban said at an Ocean Drive party last night. “He needs to mind his own business, because Kim works hard. They do different things – it’s a whole different world.” Cheban added – and we’re not making this up – that Kim Kardashian is both more popular than Jon Hamm and will be relevant for longer than the Emmy winner. “Put Jon Hamm in a mall, and more people will go up to the people working at the Burger King than they will to him. Bring Kim to a mall and there will be a riot. They’re in two different businesses. Kim’s pop culture and what people like. “It’s a lot of work, and she’s here to stay. Let’s see where he is after Mad Men .” Kardashian, for her part, has mostly taken the high road in this unexpected rivalry. She’s too busy posing topless on Twitter to really respond.
