Elsa Makes Her Move, Inches Up Baby Name Rankings

Pop culture is once again leaving its permanent mark on the real world. With parents still naming their kids Khaleesi , BabyCentre.com reports that Elsa has cracked the Top 100 Baby Names for the first time in history. It currently sits at number-88. And she isn’t the only Frozen character to be leaving her chilly mark, either. Kristoff, Hans, and  Sven are also up big percentages; though, Olaf, sadly, has only seen its popularity rise by 4 percent since this Disney smash hit theaters. Explains Anna Hill, vice president of Disney UK, to BabyCentre: “Families are really connecting with Elsa’s fight to overcome her fears and the powerful strength of the family bond which has helped her to achieve this.”  So, which girl/boy names sit atop the world rankings halfway through 2014? Emily/Oliver Isabella/Charlie Olivia/Harry Amelia/Noah Sophie/Jack Isla/Joshua Ella/Thomas Chloe/James Jessica/Jacob Lily/William Top 10 Baby Girl Names of 2013 10. Elizabeth Elizabeth, #10 on 2013’s list of popular baby girl names, is the name of a sitting Queen! It doesn’t get much more traditional, or classier, than that!

Robert Pattinson Wants to Be a Stripper, is One Weird Dude

Robert Pattinson and Guy Pearce appeared on Good Morning America today to promote their new film, The Rover. During his interview, however, Pattinson decided to slip in a plug for another project as well: Robert Pattinson on Good Morning America Asked if he’d like to have an acting career similar to Pearce’s, Pattinson weirdly replied, “I was talking about my side career as a male stripper.” He laughs afterward, so we can assume he’s kidding, but while we may never see him on stage at Chippendale’s, there’s one thing we know for certain – Rob’s a strange bird. Sadly, the topic of whether Pattinson is dating Katy Perry are dating didn’t come up so we have no new information on whether or not those two will be doing weird stuff together and bringing weird kids into the world. This isn’t the first glimpse we’ve gotten into the unique inner world of Edward Cullen. Pattinson appeared on Jimmy Kimmel  last week, where he claimed to be homeless and told a story about saliva. Yeah, and you thought dating Kristen Stewart for that long was the weirdest thing he would ever do. Fortunately, Rob’s got the looks and talent to be as mumbly and eccentric as he wants and still make it in Hollywood. Actually, the exact same thing could be said of K-Stew. Laverne Cox Covers Time Magazine, Talks Transgender Rights

Orange is the New Black star Laverne Cox covers the new issue of Time magazine and opens up to the respected news weekly about the unique challenges she’s faced as a transgender actress.  “I just thought that I was a girl and that there was no difference between girls and boys,” Cox says of her childhood gender identity .”I think in my imagination I thought that I would hit puberty and I would start turning into a girl.” Cox shares some horrifying instances of childhood bullying and the many difficulties she’s faced both before and after transitioning. Asked to summarize what she’d like the uninformed to know about trangender people, Cox says: “There’s not just one trans story. There’s not just one trans experience…If someone needs to express their gender in a way that is different, that is okay, and they should not be denied healthcare. They should not be bullied.” Cox is the first transgender person to be featured on the cover of Time . She is, of course, best known for playing Sophia Burset on OINTB . Laverne’s twin brother, Lamar, plays her character pre-transition.  Season 2 of Orange is the New Black premieres June 6 on Netflix. Bullies called her ‘cow’ and ‘zebra,’ but now her unique skin may make her a fashion superstar. 19-Year-Old Chantelle Brown-Young Lands Spot On New Season Of ANTM In spite (or because) of her skin condition, a formerly bullied Toronto native living with vitiligo landed a spot on Tyra Banks ‘ famed modeling competition. Chantelle Brown-Young wowed the judges with her story and her look via video submission to the modeling competition, and was selected to compete in the show’s 21st cycle alongside other aspiring female and male models. Daily Mail reports: Chantelle Brown-Young from Toronto was diagnosed with vitiligo – the same condition Michael Jackson had – around the age of four and said growing up she was cruelly nicknamed ‘zebra’ and ‘cow’ because of the white patches covering her face and body. But thanks to her natural beauty she is now fulfillng her dreams of being a model. Her social network accounts reveal that she has already graced the catwalk dozens of times, starred in a music video and last month, she was photographed by Nick Knight, who has lensed everyone from Kate Moss to Karlie Kloss. She describes herself as a ‘vitiligo spokesmodel’ on Instagram where she has more than 100,000 followers and she was recently invited back to her high school to do a motivational talk with students touching on the discrimination she faced. Kush Chronicles: Congressional Approval Of D.C. Sticky Icky Bill Would Allow Lawmakers To Puff Piff

Soon you may be able to blaze the green yah mean without getting busted. Lawmakers Could Approve Bill Decriminalizing Kush If this bill passes, people are going to be puffin’ piff on 420 like it’s going out of style. According to Raw Story: A recently passed D.C. bill decriminalizing sticky icky must now pass through a GOP-controlled committee before going into effect, allowing the public and politicians alike to light up without facing criminal charges. The bill, signed by D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray (D), now goes before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee headed by Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA.), and the Government Operations sub-panel, led by Rep. John Mica (R-FL.), according to The Hill. Both panels will review the law when Congress returns from their two-week spring recess. Under the new law, smoking sticky icky in public would remain a jailable criminal offense, but carrying small amounts of the herb or smoking it in the privacy of a home would only be subject to a $25 fine with no criminal charges filed. Because of the unique nature of Washington D.C., Congressional approval is needed for the bill to go into effect. Under the rules governing the nation’s capitol, Congress is given 60 days to review – and possibly block – the proposal before it takes effect. Sylvia Browne Dies; Renowned Psychic Was 77

Sylvia Browne, a renowned psychic, leader in the paranormal world and best-selling author, passed away at the age of 77 in California on Wednesday. A believer in reincarnation as well as God, Browne conducted thousands of hypnotic regressions and trance sessions with people around the world. “I don’t know how I do it,” Browne once told CNN , “I’ve done it all my life.” She also appeared on Unsolved Mysteries, Loveline with Dr. Drew and The Montel Williams Show , on which she was a weekly guest for 17 years. “I, like so many of you, lost a friend today,” Williams said yesterday. “But, as has been for the last 20 years, she’ll always remain a part of me.” Browne first became aware of her psychic abilities at age 3, her bio says. It was a “very scary thing” for her when she realized as a youngster she could tell if someone was going to die, she told Larry King back in 2000. “The only thing, I think, that saved my sanity was that there are so many – well, we can track our lineage back to 300 years – of psychics,” she said. She strove to help “thousands of people gain control of their lives, live more happily, understand the meaning of life and to find God in their unique way.” She founded The Nirvana Foundation for Psychic Research in 1974, and went on to publish more than 50 books, 22 of which were best sellers. Browne also worked with the Society of Novus Spiritus organization, and created The Sylvia Browne Hypnosis Training Center to teach her hypnosis methods. Browne’s Facebook page includes a September 10 posting stating, “If you are afraid to die, you will not fully live.” Her final post, on October 27, reads: “My one prayer every morning that has carried me is, ‘Hi God, it’s me again.’ Her website does not give a cause, but does say that Browne died at 7:10 a.m. Wednesday at Good Samaritan Hospital in San Jose, California.
