Dollar Plunges After UN Call To Ditch Greenback

The dollar plunged today following a United Nations report which called for the greenback to be replaced as the global reserve currency by the International Monetary Fund’s special drawing rights (SDRs). The dollar’s trend of moving inversely to the stock market has seemingly been snapped, with the Dow Jones falling over 100 points at one stage today. However, as soon as markets began to claw back losses, the greenback failed to follow suit, indicating that whichever way markets move, the dollar is in big trouble. The UN report called for “abandoning the U.S. dollar as the main global reserve currency, saying it has been unable to safeguard value,” according to Reuters. “A new global reserve system could be created, one that no longer relies on the United States dollar as the single major reserve currency,” stated the report, adding that this new system should not be based on a basket of currencies, but on IMF-controlled SDR’s. Following globalist moves to restore confidence in the single currency euro in the aftermath of the Bilderberg and G20 meetings, the concern has shifted from sovereign debt issues of countries like Greece and Spain, to the worsening state of the U.S. economy and the risk of a double-dip recession. In the immediate aftermath of the 2010 Bilderberg meeting in Spain, at which globalists resolved to save the euro from collapse in an effort to restore confidence in their ultimate goal of a global single currency, the euro began to make a recovery and today rose against the dollar by over 1.5 per cent. A cascade of negative U.S. economic data was released today, with job figures turning sour once again. “Jobless claims were a disaster, coming in at 472k, on expectations of 455k,” reports Zero Hedge. “The economy has now entered the “total freefall” area”. The dollar is being targeted for destruction because the financial terrorists who caused the economic collapse in the first place want to exploit the crisis in order to institute a new global currency issued by a global central bank. In May, IMF chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn told elitists in Zurich Switzerland that the introduction of a global currency backed by a global central bank would act as the “lender of last resort” in the event of a severe economic crisis, another lurch towards fascist centralization of power in pursuit of a system of global governance. As Gerald Celente explains in the clip below, all major currencies are doomed in the long term, which is why… Continued at: http://www.prisonplanet.com/dollar-plunges-after-un-call-to-ditch-greenback.html added by: Dagum

Balancing the Weights of Poverty and Population

Image credit: SlapBcn /Flickr The 21st century began on an inspiring note: The United Nations set a goal of reducing the share of the world’s population living in extreme poverty by half by 2015. By early 2007 the world looked to be on track to meet this goal, but as the economic crisis unfolds and the outlook darkens, the world will have to intensify its poverty reduction effort…. Pope Calls for “World Political Authority”

[Note: this is a story from last year, im just posting it for personal reference] Pope Benedict XVI called for a “true world political authority” to manage the economy in his new encyclical on social justice. The encyclical, entitled “Charity in Truth,” was released by the Vatican on Tuesday and signed by the pope a day earlier. Benedict’s encyclical specifically called for “regulation of the financial sector,” and a “worldwide redistribution of energy resources.” Benedict added that “the State’s role seems destined to grow” if his political prescription is followed. “There is urgent need of a true world political authority,” Benedict wrote in the 30,000-word encyclical, calling for “reform of the United Nations Organization, and likewise of economic institutions and international finance, so that the concept of the family of nations can acquire real teeth.” Benedict described what a powerful world government with teeth would look like: “Such an authority would need to be universally recognized and to be vested with the effective power to ensure security for all.” He added: “Obviously it would have to have the authority to ensure compliance with its decisions from all parties” — that is, nations. At best, Benedict is proposing a global federation that would improve upon the U.S. Constitution’s checks and balances. “Such an authority would need to be regulated by law, to observe consistently the principles of subsidiarity,” Benedict says. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Pope,_13_march_2007.jpg http://www.thenewamerican.com/index.php/culture/education/1375 added by: ibrake4rappers13

Why This Planet Needs a Woman’s Touch

Women around the world possess crucial knowledge about agriculture and biodiversity. Photos by Find Your Feet (L) and Paul Stevenson (R) via Flickr. When you’re trying to protect an entire planet, it seems pretty silly to leave half of its human inhabitants out of the discussion, but that’s exactly what’s happening to women in many parts of the world, according to a recent report on the IPS news wire. Local projects in Afghanistan… Read the full story on TreeHugger

Israeli Attack on the Mavi Marmara // Raw Footage

Iara Lee, a Brazilian-American filmmaker and activist who was shooting a documentary on the flotilla of ships that was intercepted last week on its way to Gaza, has posted one hour of unedited video online that shows the early stages of the Israeli commando raid. Ms. Lee’s raw video, posted on YouTube on Friday, gives viewers a chance to see the atmosphere on the main ship in the flotilla, the Mavi Marmara, just before and during the raid. The footage was shot over the course of more than one hour, as the camera was turned on and off a few times, but it shows long, uninterrupted stretches of the event. (Please be aware that the video contains graphic images of people who have been badly wounded and may have died.) Since the camera was on a lower deck of the ship, it also shows but does not give a clear view of the violent confrontation and shootings that took place on the top deck of the ship, after Israeli commandos boarded from a helicopter and met with resistance from passengers on board. But the video, and accompanying audio, will help give a better sense of the timeline of the raid. It also shows clearly the area of the ship where wounded and dying passengers — and soldiers — were brought for medical treatment. At a news conference at the United Nations on Thursday, where the video was screened for members of the media, Ms. Lee explained that she managed to smuggle out the video by hiding the card. She added that another video card she tried to hide was discovered and confiscated by Israeli authorities, along with her video equipment. Guess that explains why it never made it to Current….or not…. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vwsMJmvS0AY&feature=player_embedded# ! added by: Incredulous

U.N. Will Carry Out Its Second Emergency Airlift of the World’s Most Endangered Species, the Baby Gorillas, from the Democratic Republic of Congo

UN to airlift gorillas from DR Congo By the CNN Wire Staff June 6, 2010 5:39 a.m. EDT (CNN) — The United Nations will carry out a second airlift of baby gorillas, one of the world's most endangered species, from the Democratic Republic of Congo. The operation, planned for mid-July, will take the gorillas to a sanctuary where they will be cared for before being released into the wild, the U.N. said Saturday. The first such rescue was undertaken on May 27. Until now, the Congo Basin in Central Africa had been a rainforest refuge for gorillas and other apes. But the threats to the gorillas' survival are so acute that a study that predicted only 10 percent of the gorilla population will remain by 2030 is now considered too optimistic. A new U.N. report, released in March, said gorillas may go extinct in much of central Africa by the mid-2020s. The situation is especially critical in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. There, militias have seized large chunks of gorilla land and logged and mined it. They have done so because the illegal trade in timber and in metals such as gold and coltan — used in cell phones — generates between $14 million and $50 million a year for them, the report says. As the militia fight the army, the insecurity in the region has driven thousands into refugee camps. Professional poachers have taken to providing “bush meat” — wild animal meat — to the refugees and to the workers in the mining and logging camps. And increasingly, that meat comes from apes, the report said. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/telegraph/multimedia/archive/01250/baby-gorilla_12501… added by: EthicalVegan
