Sorry, Not Sorry Kylie Jenner: Here Are 5 ACTUAL Self-Made Billionaires Who Clawed Their Way From The Bottom To The Top

Read more here:

Tuesday morning, the publication that celebrates the world’s most business savvy people, announced Kylie Jenner, 21, was the youngest self-made billionaire, turning the internet on its head. This claim alone was incorrect, she’s not self-made, which dictionary.com , doing what it does best, defined the term for all of us. Haven't we gone over this? Self-made: Having succeeded in life unaided. https://t.co/g0ZHDSkVfu https://t.co/3O48zKsInN — Dictionary.com (@Dictionarycom) March 5, 2019 Forbes, on the other hand, developed their own ranking system which defines self-made on a scale from 0-10 with Oprah, who grew up poor and with serious substantial hardships scoring a 10 and Jenner, born with a silver spoon in her mouth and fame to leverage to her advantage scored a 7. A score of 1 means you inherited everything, which I guess earning royalties from a reality show since adolescence, and then launching a make-up company atop heaps of cash, is a far-cry from… but mkay, Forbes. I’m just going to leave my side-eye gifs here. Here are five real fired-from-their-first-job, worked-as-a-taxi-driver, climbed-their-way-to-the-top self-made billionaires. Oprah Winfrey View this post on Instagram This was an incredibly regal experience. Thank you @edward_enninful and @britishvogue for making me Empress for a day. And @mertalas, @macpiggott…a dream I didn’t even know I had to be photographed by you two. A post shared by Oprah (@oprah) on Jul 2, 2018 at 10:55am PDT Everybody’s favorite auntie, Oprah Winfrey is the GOAT rags to riches story. Oprah, who was fired from her first on-air job as a co-anchor at Baltimore’s WJZ-TV, grew up in poverty and without family connections or networks from which to flourish from. However, when she was told at the age of 22 she was “unfit for television news.” Now the media mogul, actress, and produce who secured her own talk show consisting of featuring A-listers, created her own network, as well as a a magazine and now her own pizza (now if that ain’t goals I don’t know what is), is and has been the richest African-American woman in the United States with an estimated worth of $2.5 billion. Michael Jordan Source: VINCE BUCCI / Getty Michael Jordan the original GOAT, is the world’s first billionaire athlete. MJ was born in Brooklyn, New York to an equipment supervisor and banker. He was one of five kids. In his sophomore year in high school, standing at 5’11” Jordan was told he was too short to qualify for the varsity basketball team. Determined to rise above, Jordan became the star of the junior varsity team. The following year, he qualified for the varsity team. He was recruited by numerous colleges before attending North Carolina for 3 years before entering the draft, shattering records, and becoming the Greatest Of All Time. While scoring an average of …. Per game, Jordan propelled himself to billionaire status by securing major sponsorships with Gatorade, Nike, Hanes, Upper Deck, and of course his legendary collaboration with Nike on the Jordan brand for $1 million. MJ is earning $1.9 billion. Folorunsho Alakija View this post on Instagram Thank you for the recognition @bishopjakes We appreciate you Bishop. Alex Trebek: Jeopardy Host Reveals Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer Diagnosis

Sad news out of the world of television today, as beloved Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek has revealed that he’s battling stage 4 pancreatic cancer. Trebek shared his diagnosis with fans in a heartfelt message posted on YouTube.  Alex Trebek: I Have Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer “Hi everyone, I have some news to share with all of you and it’s in keeping with my longtime policy of being open and transparent with our Jeopardy! fan base,” Trebek said. “I also wanted to prevent you from reading or hearing some overblown or inaccurate reports regarding my health. So therefore, I wanted to be the one to pass along this information,” the 78-year-old TV legend continued. “Now, just like 50,000 other people in the United States each year, this week I was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. Now normally, the prognosis for this is not very encouraging, but I’m going to fight this, and I’m going to keep working. “And with the love and support of my family and friends and with the help of your prayers also, I plan to beat the low survival rate statistics for this disease. Trebek concluded his message with his trademark wry humor, saying: “Truth told, I have to! Because under the terms of my contract, I have to host Jeopardy! for three more years! “So help me. Keep the faith and we’ll win. We’ll get it done. Thank you.” Trebek has been the face of Jeopardy! since the show was revived in 1984 following its original run under host Art Fleming. Considered by many to be the most iconic game show host of television’s modern era, Trebek’s erudition and deadpan wit have endeared him to generations of fans. The news of his grim diagnosis has been met with great concern by Jeopardy ‘s devoted fan base — but many reactions on social media are tinged with the same hope that Trebek encouraged in his announcement. Clearly, Alex is a man who’s looking to the future. In addition to his recently renewed contract with the show, Trebek recently speculated as to who might one day replace him on the show, citing CNN’s Laura Coates, LA Kings announcer Alex Faust and TCM’s Ben Mankiewicz as personal favorites. In the meantime, we hope he’ll continue to provide the answer to the question “who is television’s most courageous host?” for many years to come. Our thoughts go out to Trebek and his family during this difficult time. View Slideshow: Celebrities Who Beat Cancer

Absolutely No One Is Safe: The Pettiest Tweets From Black History Month So Far

Source: Adene Sanchez / Getty Black History Month has been a lot. We need a do over…but in the meantime, these were some of the craziest moments and pettiest reactions of the month so far. To kick things off, 21 Savage was arrested by ICE after he spoke out against some of their practices in his song “A Lot.” Obviously, we all wanted to see 21 safe and free to stay in the United States with his family—but when the nation found out that the most ATL person we’ve ever known was actually born in London, pettiness about him possibly having a British accent and more ensued. Click here to see who folks say “snitched.” Liam Neeson randomly admitted to wanting to kill a Black man…any Black man…in order to get revenge for a friend who claimed she was rape by a Black guy. He admitted to actively looking for Black men, hoping for some sort of an altercation…and while some folks, gave him props for admitting to his “past” racism, most didn’t let him off that easily and/or had petty jokes for days. Since we not fucking with Liam Neeson anymore put me in the next Taken ima find Jay Z 92 bricks. — Vince Staples (@vincestaples) February 11, 2019 I'm a bit late. All the good Liam Neeson jokes are…Taken. — Aatif Nawaz (@AatifNawaz) February 6, 2019 On another note, is it just us or has it been feeling more like blackface month? Gucci, Moncler, AND Prada were all blasted for obviously racist designs that were all blatantly offensive. Then, to top it off, Burberry had a model wear a “noose hoodie” while walking the runway for London Fashion Week. While many of us instantly decided these designers were #canceled, Floyd Mayweather—in all his ignorance and pettiness—decided to throw on head-to-toe Gucci , and hit Instagram to say “People boycott for trend but turn around and still shop at H&M and watch the NFL.” 50 Cent made fun of his reading ability once more and Twitter had a blast with it all. 50 Cent has responded to Floyd Mayweather’s comments pic.twitter.com/PBjUQeJGTw — Quake (@QuakeGW) February 15, 2019 People also thought it was pretty interesting that Nicki Minaj dropped her own remix to Blueface’s viral hit “Thotiana,” even though the West Coast rapper’s remix with Cardi B was on its way . Now that Cardi’s version has arrived, the debate on who’s is better has been never-ending. But overall it seems like the internet is fed up with Nicki’s…creative choices. I love this Thotiana Remix, Cardi B verse is heat on it, Blueface got bodied lmao. Nicki Minaj take notes, you could freestyle without having to rhyme IANA with IANA. — Hip-hop bigger than any artist (@TopHipHopPolls) February 17, 2019 On February 10, Will Smith was the butt of some hilarious jokes after unveiling his genie look in the upcoming live-action adaptation of Disney’s Aladdin . Reassuring petty fans that he would, in fact, be blue he posted a sneak peek from the movie—but people were highly dissatisfied with the end result. “Should he look like the genie or like Will Smith?” “Yes.” pic.twitter.com/54sRUKXiRB — American Antony Santos (@TheMikeTre) February 11, 2019 The Grammys also went down on February 10. Due to being locked up by ICE, 21 Savage wasn’t able to hit the stage for his scheduled performance with Post Malone…so fans were eager to see if Post would at least shout 21 out—but nope. In fact, Childish Gambino producer Ludwig Goransson was the only person to shout 21 out the entire night. This ain’t a petty tweet, it’s simply facts. Ludwig Goransson gives the night's only real 21 Savage shoutout 3 and a half hours into the show. — Craig Bro Dude (@CraigSJ) February 11, 2019 But there was more…Cardi B and Offset confirmed their obvious reunion… but folks are kind of tired of Offset , Kylie Jenner didn’t look her best and people pointed it out all night, Anita Baker didn’t seem pleased with the Aretha Franklin tribute, and for some reason Jennifer Lopez did the Motown tribute…which literally confused everyone. Also Cardi winning a Grammy had everyone on their pettiest behavior (including, BET unfortunately). ….. Shaking my head. https://t.co/u06PUk6Tsq — Anita Baker (@IAMANITABAKER) February 11, 2019 I will never recover from that Jennifer Lopez Motown tribute at the Grammys or this Mariah Carey quote. pic.twitter.com/TC4boZHCB3 — GirlTyler (@sheistyler) February 13, 2019 Cardi B isn't better than Nicki Minaj!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! — Omo Iya Eleja (@motivatedgeorge) February 11, 2019 When Steve Harvey and Mo’Nique sat down to discuss their differences of opinion regarding the actress being blackballed, fans came to Mo’s defense. After suggesting that Mo’Nique’s integrity was not as important as getting a check and more, Harvey was accused of being a sellout and dragged to Black Twitter hell by the internet. mo'nique: i have integri– steve harvey: if i crumble, my children crumble, my grandchildren crumble, blueberry crumble, rumble in the jungle, bitch be humble, i am a CLOWN — . (@hoodqueer) February 14, 2019 For some reason, people are obsessed with Malia Obama pretty much being a normal 20-year-old. Our Forever First Kid was caught sipping on some wine after a writer posted a photo that showed her holding a bottle of Rosé. The legal drinking age is 21, but everyone seemed more amused than they were upset. All of Twitter coming together to defend Malia Obama pic.twitter.com/9wgS2WHvj3 — philip lewis (@Phil_Lewis_) February 19, 2019 In what was probably the most confusing moment of them all, Jussie Smollett has been accused of staging the homophobic and racist attack that hospitalized him in January. His mugshot has since been released and reports say he is being charged with felony disorderly conduct and faces up to three years in jail. Lmfao. I don’t want him in jail. I think he should be on 3 months probation with the terms being him having to eat Subway everyday https://t.co/WmsRxargHR — Yac House P | Taahir (@PhillyTheBoss) February 21, 2019 On a lighter note, persistent cheater Tristan Thompson got caught stepping out on Khloe Kardashian yet again—this time with Kylie Jenner’s best friend Jordyn Woods at a party. When reports surfaced, Khloe and the crew pettily confirmed them on social media and fans went in on the ever so trifling Jordyn and dirty dog Tristan. *source* from Tristan Thompson's party: pic.twitter.com/bMag6zKqMt — Jenn Wick (@Jennykay5real) February 20, 2019 While sitting down for a town hall symposium for the My Brother’s Keeper program, Barack Obama and Stephen Curry gave out some great advice to the young men in attendance. Specifically, Obama talked about having confidence and not using twerking women and gold chains to front. “If you are very confident about your sexuality, you don’t have to have eight women around you twerkin’,” he hilariously said. “You seem stressed that you’ve gotta be acting that way. I’ve got one woman that I’m very happy with.” Shout out to Mrs. O.  and to be clear, there is no tweet to see here people…”You seem stressed” is Obama at his pettiest and we love it. To close thing out, we’ve also gathered your usual, everyday pettiness happening on social media…like folks making fun of single people, Soulja Boy correcting TMZ titles that claimed he was “dating” Blac Chyna, people laughing at Kim K.’s cluelessness , and more. Idk who needs to hear this but… Sis, your soulmate is not that lady’s husband. Lmao. — i work at the mall. One student John Stokes assisted Johns in the effort in 1951. He shares his story with me. John Stokes grew up in the Jim Crow South.  He attended Robert Russa Moton High School in Prince Edward County, Virginia.  This was the only school for African American students in the entire county.  It was a one-story school that was built to hold 180 students.  However, by 1950 there were more than 450 students attending the school.  The educational resources at Moton were few with only eight classrooms, an office, and an auditorium. B lack entrepreneurs are making power moves in 2019. Just weeks after 18-year-old beauty entrepreneur Zandra Cunningham landed a huge deal with Target, another entrepreneur has inked deals with other national retailers. Lesley Riley , founder of the gourmet baking company Mama Biscuits, will have her products sold at Walmart, Sam’s Club, Whole Foods and other stores, Black News reported. A 127-year old family biscuit recipe has helped this Black entrepreneur make #blackhistory by scoring major national distribution deals… in just 4 years! #buyblack #blackgirlmagic #blackgirlsrock https://t.co/0PrsKJgf2a — Black News (@BlackNews) February 11, 2019 Riley—who started Mama Biscuits four years ago—wanted to pay homage to her grandmother through her company, the news outlet writes. The products that she sells are inspired by her grandmother’s recipes that were passed down through different generations in her family for over a century. Stepping into entrepreneurship was no easy feat for Riley. Like many Black founders she struggled with securing funding for her business. The lack of financial support didn’t deter Riley from making Mama Biscuits a success. She continued her passion for cooking and as word spread about how delicious her biscuits were, she built a demand. Her company is the country’s first gourmet biscuit baking company in the DMV area. “I want to give my customers and future customers the gift of eating our Artisan sweet, savory, gluten-free gourmet biscuits. I ship them all over the United States and would love for each household to experience them,” said Riley in a statement. “I never take anything for granted. No matter what opportunities come your way always remain humble. Opportunities aren’t given to everyone.” Riley also uses her company as an avenue for social good. She donates biscuits to local food pantries that serve the homeless and plans on launching a culinary education program for youth. Riley is slated to appear on In the Kitchen with David on QVC on March 17. Chicago Woman Leads Effort To Provide Hotel Rooms For City’s Homeless

Read the rest here:

A s the deep freeze sweeps several parts of the country, concerns surrounding the homeless population have been heightened. Temperatures have reached dangerously cold levels and many are worried about how those living on the streets will stay warm. A Chicago woman has taken matters into her own hands. According to CBS Chicago , Candice Payne rented hotel rooms this week so that the city’s homeless residents could have shelter in the cold weather. Candice Payne's selfless act spurred a group to rent 60 hotel rooms to keep homeless people off the streets of Chicago during the historic cold. “Maybe they didn’t know how to or where to start to help, so I’m glad that I was able to be that vehicle.” https://t.co/m7s5WVjgaC pic.twitter.com/Nip4kI8bKh — CBS Chicago (@cbschicago) February 1, 2019 Payne was motivated to step in and help men and women in need after she learned that a propane tank where many homeless people stayed in a cluster of tents had exploded, the news outlet writes. That tank was one of the only sources of heat for the community. Payne decided to step in and rented 20 rooms on her credit card so that individuals without homes would have a place to stay during the frigid temperatures. After posts about her efforts to help the homeless circulated on social media, other individuals volunteered to help. People rented out additional hotel rooms, and donated food, water, and clothes. With the support of volunteers, there has been a total of 60 rooms rented. Nearly 100 people have been accommodated for three-night stays. Payne is happy that she was able to make an impact. “Maybe they didn’t know how to or where to start to help, so I’m glad that I was able to be that vehicle,” she told the news outlet. The individuals that she has helped are thankful for all that Payne has done. “We don’t get that type of help,” one of the people staying at the hotel said. “I really needed them at that point, so they came right in time.” She and the volunteers are working towards creating more of a lasting solution for the city’s homeless population. Efforts like the one she has led are needed. According to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development , in 2017 there were 554,000 homeless people in the United States and 193,000 of those individuals were living on the streets and didn’t have access to shelters.
