President Trump Orders 59-Missle Strike On Syria Not even a full 100 days into his presidency, Donald Trump has already signed off on his first act of war. As CNN reports, US warships launched 59 Tomahawk cruise missiles at a Syrian government airbase on Donald Trump’s orders. The airbase is apparently where the warplanes that executed the chemical attacks earlier this week were based. This is the first military action the US has taken in Syria during the country’s six-year civil war under President Bashar al-Assad. If you’ll recall, Trump previously wanted to keep the US uninvolved in Syria’s dealings, even going so far as to make sure that none of the war’s refugees made it into the country . However suddenly, he feels like their horrific war acts warrant US involvement. As he said in a brief statement given at the “Winter White House” Mar-A-Lago: “Tonight, I ordered a targeted military strike on the airfield in Syria from where the chemical attack was launched. It is in this vital national security of the United States to prevent and deter the spread and use of deadly chemical weapons. There can be no dispute that Syria used banned chemical weapons, violated its obligations under the Chemical Weapons Convention and ignored the urging of the UN Security Council. Years of previous attempts at changing Assad’s behavior have all failed and failed very dramatically.” Welp…it’s highly likely that President Bashar al-Assad will take the strike as a declaration of war, so it remains to be seen what will happen from here… Splash
Cuba Gooding Jr. Slammed For Lifting Sarah Paulson’s Dress At AHS Panel Cuba Gooding’s big dumb face should be in the dictionary whenever Merriam-Webster decides to add “headass” to the dictionary. If it ain’t one thing , it’s a muthaf**kin other with this dude. Sunday, at an American Horror Story: Roanoke panel discussion O.J. My sister loves her bonnet. So much so that she’s created a hashtag for the life she leads. #BonnetLife. Most Black girls know how far a good bonnet can go in preserving the moisture in your hair, preserving your style and the strength of your hair as well. Still, the assumption is that bonnets will be worn in the privacy of your own home. So you can imagine my mortification when my sister decided that she would have continental breakfast, in the lobby of our hotel, wearing her beloved bonnet. We were in Savannah, Georgia celebrating my birthday and my sister just didn’t want to take it off before we went downstairs. While it certainly wasn’t something I would have done, I admired the fact that my sister didn’t care about the opinions of others enough to let it deter her from moving as she wished. I took a picture of the moment and put it on my Instagram. [ madamenoire ] United Airlines: “Your Leggings Are Welcome” (Despite Yesterday’s Mess) If you hopped on Twitter yesterday and saw United trending, you might’ve thought, “Great, another airline I’m going to have to stop flying.” But before you jump to conclusions, it seems special circumstances were involved in United’s decision to block two teenage girls wearing leggings from boarding a flight to Minneapolis yesterday. The young passengers weren’t your everyday customers, they were “pass riders” — relatives or friends of United employees allowed to fly at discounted rates — and as such they are required to follow the airline’s dress code when flying which, apparently, does not include leggings. Despite the explanations being tweeted from United’s Twitter handle during the debacle, celebs and citizens alike dragged the airline for their “policing” of women’s clothes which, understandably, was deemed sexist. Today, United put out a formal statement on the incident, attempting to assure its regular customers their leggings are all good, but it might not be enough for the airline to recover from yesterday’s mishap. A disturbing video shows a White student referring to her African-American male classmate as a “Black piece of s**t” during an altercation following what the Black teen said was months of harassment and threats.
It’s been three years and the long-suffering residents of Flint, Michigan are still without clean water. The fact that something as essential as drinking water is not available to Flint residents is unfathomable, especially considering that we live in the highly privileged United States. Unfortunately the current news for those living in Flint is even […]
Rush Limbaugh Says Obama Got His Way Because He’s Black Rush Limbaugh is magically still alive, kicking, and spewing nonsense. The puffy pundit is now claiming that Barack Obama had a smooth ride through the White House his first year in office, because everyone was just dying to keep the Black man happy. “You have the first African-American president. You have everybody falling all over themselves to acknowledge that, to reward that. Obama was going to get everything he wanted in the first year, because if anybody opposed it, they were going to be accused of being a racist or a bigot or who knows what.” Oh? Rush is getting up in age and all, so we’re assuming he forgot about the near-constant opposition Obama faced from the GOP with just about every plan or proposal he put forth. Oh, and there was also that whole thing about trying to force the man to prove that he was ACTUALLY born in the United States of America with his birth certificate…which one Orange Embarrassment rode all the way to the White House with.
An exciting football game broke out in between various political protests on Sunday night. Indeed, while many may remember Super Bowl LI as the first overtime contest in the history of this NFL championship game, others may consider the event special due to the unique nature of the ads. Some were silly. Some were funny. Some featured celebrities. However others clearly tried to send a message to the world. There was the controversial Budweiser ad that told the story of that beer's immigrant founder. There was the Airbnb commercial that took a clear stance on Donald Trump's immigration policy. But the following spot for 84 Lumber represented the most obvious, clear cut case of a company using its time to focus on something far beyond its product. A building materials supply company, 84 Lumber spent considerable money to show viewers a mother and daughter embarking on a journey across Mexico in a bid to reach the United States. The ad's initial version – in which the loved ones are blocked by a forbidding border wall – was deemed “too controversial” to air by Fox executives. Therefore, the company settled on a 90-second ad that depicted portions of the journey, with an invitation to watch its conclusion online. And that conclusion is what we present below. At the end of it, the mother and daughter find a wooden gate in the wall, which opens to the tagline: “The will to succeed is always welcome here.” Did the company's gamble to get this political off? According to People Magazine, traffic to the 84 Lumber website last night was so intense and ongoing that it caused the site to crash. “We will always support the American Dream,” wrote 84 Lumber on Twitter shortly after the ad aired. “This is a conversation that’s taking place in homes across America and so 84 Lumber was willing to be part of that conversation, to be relevant and timely,” Rob Schapiro, chief creative officer of 84 Lumber’s ad agency Brunner, told Business Insider. “In Part Two [of the ad] you will see what a beacon of light America is, not just within America but beyond to other countries. “We are that beacon of light for people for finding success from hard work and making a contribution.” WATCH THE FULL, UNCUT VERSION BELOW:
