The term ” MILF ” has become so commonplace (you can even hear it in this week’s Mr. Skin Minute ) that it’s easy to forget that the term was coined a mere 13 years ago in American Pie (1999). And now that Universal is turning American Pie from a trilogy to a quadrilogy with their new movie American Reunion , they’re reminding us who’s boss in the hot moms department: So submit your favorite hot mom to American Reunion’s Break.com photo page now, and like they say you could win an iPad. Maybe you can put it next to the iPad you win from voting in our Whack-It Bracket and watch our American Pie Series: Every Nude Scene playlist on both at the same time. That’d be pretty cool.
You’ve been hearing about it for years , and at last, the fabled Hugh Hefner biopic that will never get made has moved from Universal to Warner Bros. The one and only Jerry Weintraub will produce, at least until he won’t. “While Universal had filmmakers like Brett Ratner attached at one time or another and actors like Robert Downey Jr. and Hugh Jackman mentioned as possibles to play Hef, the project languished,” Mike Fleming writes at ML’s sister site Deadline. “Wentraub would not disclose what part of Hefner’s life he will cover, and he denied that Harry Potter scribe Steve Kloves is being talked to as a potential screenwriter.” Finally! We’re getting somewhere. [ Deadline ]
Following in the footsteps of hit musical adaptations Billy Elliot , Wicked , and Bring It On: The Musical , Universal’s stage adaptation of John Landis’ s Animal House will hit Broadway with a book by playwright Michael Mitnick, to be directed by Book of Mormon ‘s Casey Nicholaw, with music by the guys who sang the indelible lyrics “Chickity China the Chinese chicken/You have a drumstick and your brain stops tickin’.” Because nothing says “Broadway” like frat boys and crunchy Canadian alt-rock, right? The bad news: Despicable Me 2 does not arrive until 2013. The good news: Steve Carell and his minions are already back is the trailer! The original earned $540 million in 201o, not shabby for the first CGI feature produced by Universal, and the first feature film by Illumination Entertainment. If this first taste is any indication, Despicable Me 2 looks like it should be just as big a hit: Despicable Me 2 Trailer
A new batch of Battleship stills show singer-turned-actress Rihanna in Navy gear manning all manner of combat machinery as the resident weapons specialist in Taylor Kitsch ‘s crew. But can her feature debut in Peter Berg’s summer blockbuster counteract the criticism she’s getting from reuniting, at least professionally, with Chris Brown? The stills (below, via Universal and Digital Spy ) hit the web at a conspicuous time for Rihanna, who was assaulted in 2009 by then-boyfriend Brown. After a three-year split, during which time Brown was sentenced to domestic violence counseling and community service and ordered to stay away from Rihanna by restraining order, the two collaborated on a pair of songs released this week. According to producer The-Dream, who oversaw the “Birthday Cake” remix featuring Brown, the move was Rihanna’s idea. “The true thing really is to forgive,” he explained to Billboard Magazine . “And … you want to believe in people.” Some celeb-watchers take the reunion as more than just a professional expression of forgiveness. “The message couldn’t have been clearer to the world,” writes Hollywood Life’s Bonnie Fuller. “We’re a couple again and we’re saying it in the strongest way that we know how — through our music.” That seems like a bit of a stretch, but whatever the relationship, many fans who supported Rihanna as she bounced back from the public fallout of the 2009 incident are understandably upset that the 24-year-old would unite on any front with her former attacker. Enter Battleship . Over a year after the assault, Rihanna was cast as Petty Officer Raikes in Universal’s naval actioner. She’d been looking to break into film already, telling MTV in 2008 that she was looking “seriously” into making her acting debut. Battleship , then, provided a prime opportunity; as Raikes, Rihanna gets to play a strong, serious-minded character involved directly in action sequences whom she’s described as “one of the guys” — as opposed to the film’s eye candy, as embodied in Brooklyn Decker as Kitsch’s love interest. That character quality alone may have been reason enough to break into a side career in acting with Battleship , but it also allows Rihanna to project an image of strength and resilience to her fans. At the helm of a gunboat or wielding assault rifles, she is seen in a position of control and dominance, the would-be executor of violence (against aliens, in this case) instead of a victim. Of course, that’s not to say Battleship will erase the image of Rihanna, battered and bruised, from our collective memories. It certainly shouldn’t, in the least. And it’s not quite a pointed personal statement that, say, a G.I. Jane or a Brave One -styled vigilante pic might be; it’s a subtle move that simultaneously eases first-time actor Rihanna into the movies in a supporting role with more seasoned actors around to do the heavy lifting. Conspicuous as it is that new Rihanna-holding-guns images were released into the world around the same time as her Chris Brown collaborations (joining a few more that were previously released by Universal), it hints at an effort to protect her image from the backlash that any Brown-related association invites. But Battleship has yet to be seen, and Rihanna, who hasn’t yet directly addressed the Brown collaborations, may yet still win back or further alienate her following in the weeks to come.

Sarah Palin has a way with words. The 2008 V.P. nominee, who hasn’t formally endorsed Newt Gingrich but still told people to vote for Newt in South Carolina and is clearly glad he won Saturday’s primary, had some fun with New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie’s reaction to Gingrich’s win. After Christie, a Romney supporter and surrogate, bashed Gingrich as an embarrassment to the Republican party, Palin stated, eloquently, that Chris just has his panties in a wad over his guy losing. Sarah’s words, not ours. Watch: Sarah Palin on Chris Christie
Jimmy Fallon is being accused of gender-based favoritism at work. Bu a guy. A fired staff member’s suing Jimmy and NBC Universal for discrimination. In a lawsuit, Paul Tarascio claims he was dropped from his position as first stage manager at Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and replaced by a “totally incompetent woman.” Tarascio thus accuses Fallon of “gender bias.” Tarascio also alleges his replacement was “a less qualified woman” who constantly asked him how to do the job, and screwed up her stage manager duties. He claims other male staffers on the night owl program, such as audio technicians and a Prop-Master, were also replaced by women at Jimmy’s request. Tarascio says the director said “Jimmy just prefers to take direction from a woman and “knowingly fabricated alleged performance issues” about Tarascio. Tarascio is suing for punitive damages and lost wages. Calls to Jimmy’s rep and NBC Universal were not returned. It’s unclear if anyone still works there. [Photo: WENN.com]
