Snooki Instagram Account: Taken Over By Arabic Hackers!

First came The Fappening, then came the Sony hacking, and now the hostile takeover of Snooki’s Instagram account by apparently well-meaning Arabic trolls. It’s the natural progression of things. Yes, this really happened. Earlier this week, several Snooki pictures and captions were deleted and replaced with messages in Arabic and the image of a person in a head scarf. Their objective? Unclear. Perhaps to make a point that was simple but profound. “We are Arabic hackers, but that doesn’t mean all of the Arabic people are bad,” one of the posts read. Good to know, guys. The mother of two, who just married baby daddy Jionni LaValle , wasn’t pleased with the intrusion and quickly took to Twitter to let her fans know about it. “Dude I get your playing this little game & it turns you on, but don’t delete pictures of my kids. Have a heart since clearly you got balls,” Snooki tweeted. Luckily the reality star (real name Nicole Polizzi) regained control of her account and was able to post a series of family photos just in time for the New Year. “I have to say I love having this account because I get to share my life with you,” the 27-year-old captioned a photo with her newborn baby girl, Giovanna. And then we returned to remembering these classic Jersey Shore GIFs from Snook’s hung over haydey, and all was right with the universe once more … 17 Things Girls Say and Do When They’re Drunk 1. That’s My Jam! When you’re drunk in the club (or on the way to the club), EVERY SONG is your jam.

Finally — Black Superheroes! Marvel Officially Announces “Black Panther” Starring Chadwick Boseman

Nice! Chadwick Boseman Cast As First Black Headlining Superhero In “Black Panther” The Marvel Universe is getting an extra splash of color … Via USAtoday : “Welcome to the fray.” Robert Downey Jr. greeted Chadwick Boseman’s entry into the Marvel Cinematic universe Tuesday at the El Capitan Theater in L.A., where Marvel Studios unveiled a slate of movies that will have fanboys psyched until 2019. Boseman was cast as T’Challa, the ruler of Wakanda and the title superhero of Black Panther. The movie is scheduled for release Nov. 3, 2017, and will be part of Marvel’s “Phase 3″ slate beginning with Ant-Man in July. Introduced in 1966, Black Panther was the first black superhero in comics, and the film — in addition to a female-led Captain Marvel project in 2018 — infuses diversity into Marvel’s lineup of movie characters. After Downey told him to get used to a heap of applause from the gathered crowd, Boseman confirmed that Black Panther “is kind of his own guy. I’m blessed to be a part of this Marvel Universe, to work with you both, and to make magic together.” Black Panther is one of Marvel’s most interesting characters, said Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige. “He’s a bit of a prince, he may even become a bit of a king, but it’s all about how this isolationist country meets the world. Maybe it goes well, maybe it doesn’t.” This is big. Marvel is getting with the program and adding diversity. DC, it’s your move…

Race Matters: Should Viewers Care That The Flash Has A Black Girlfriend In New Show?

Are people ready for “race bending” in comics? “The Flash” Casts Black Actress In White Character Role The new series based on The Flash recently aired, with a few notable changes to the traditional story canon. Most notably, The Flash’s eventual girlfriend, Iris West, is now a young Black woman. One LA Times writer examines the response to the change: The critics of “race-bending” or “race-switching” in adaptations of comic book lore don’t seem to be racist. Rather, as one website summarizes their complaint, they object to “political correctness pandering meant to foster the illusion of diversity, which is disrespectful to the tradition of these characters AND the general public.” But, as comics nerds of a certain age remember, the “tradition” of comic books in the 1950s and ’60s was to ignore blacks — perhaps to avoid offending readers in the South (or their racist parents). But it wasn’t just racial diversity that was lacking in the so-called Silver Age. Though many comic book creators were Jews or Italian Americans (Bob Kane, Batman’s creator, started out as Robert Kahn), the DC Universe of the time was Earth-WASP. In the 1970s comics discovered African Americans virtually overnight and soon black characters appeared to challenge not just super villains but “The Man” as well. The high, or low, point of the “relevance” craze was “I Am Curious Black,” in which Lois Lane entered a matter-transformer and emerged as a black woman. (“Suppose I couldn’t change back?” the altered Lois asks the Man of Steel. “Would you marry me? Even if I’m black?”) There was no such self-conscious racial melodrama in the premiere of “The Flash.” Iris’ race wasn’t emphasized or agonized about — which was refreshing. One could argue that this sort of comfortable color-blindness understates the persistence of racism in America, but it’s much closer to reality than the all-white Metropolis crowds who marveled at Superman’s exploits in the 1950s. And that’s the best refutation of the comics’ nerds complaint that the new approach is “disrespectful to the tradition of these characters.” That tradition was a dishonest and dishonorable one — as DC Comics admitted in a 1970 story in which an elderly black man rips into Green Lantern: “I been readin’ about you … how you work for the blue skins … and how on a planet someplace you helped out the orange skins … and you done considerable for the purple skins! Only there’s skins you never bothered with — ! The black skins! I want to know … how come?! Answer me that, Mr. Green Lantern!” Over the top, but he had a point. Your thoughts?
