Via Essence: A couple weeks ago, you announced plans to quit your reality show. What led you to that decision? Tia Mowry: What a lot of people don’t know is that it was almost 50/50. The Style Network turned into Esquire. That left my sister and I with the question, should we continue the show? It was talked about for a while. Could we pitch the show to other networks? That was when my sister and I decided to draw the line and say ‘We’re done!’ We did three amazing years. Having a camera in your home 12 months out of the year for eight hours or 12 hours a day is a lot of work. But we’re moving on to other things. Tamera Mowry: I came to a point where I thought the universe was giving my sister and I the chance to say if we wanted to move on or not. I had time to really reflect. I thought; I had cameras when I was engaged, I had cameras when I was pregnant and then I had cameras around when I had my son. I just wanted personal private time with my family. I think that you should have balance in your life. That was something that I particularly needed. I wanted to protect that side of my life. I didn’t want [my son] on camera all the time. At least they left on their terms. They had a good run.
NASA officials say that the 1986 Space Shuttle Challenger accident “should never be trivialized” and that Beyonce’s new song “XO” does exactly that. The star’s track features an audio sample recorded just after the historic and tragic event, and the space agency isn’t pleased , according to a statement. A statement from Lauren B. Worley, NASA’s press secretary, reads: Beyonce Slammed For Challenger Audio Sample “The Challenger accident is an important part of our history; a tragic reminder that space exploration is risky and should never be trivialized.” “NASA works every day to honor the legacy of our fallen astronauts as we carry out our mission to reach for new heights and explore the universe.” She has been criticized by the deceased’s families and fans for the sample, which includes the words “major malfunction” as an allusion to a failed relationship. Beyonce responded to the Challenger controversy this week. The star said “heart goes out to families of those lost in the Challenger disaster” and that she had the “sincerest intention” to help those who lost loved ones. Yeah, I’ve never heard of Miss Intercontinental before either, and I thought I’d applied to judge just about every major beauty pageant there is. Guess not. Anyway, I’m not sure how it’s different from Miss Universe, but I’m always willing to support competitions that encourage one of my favorite pastimes: judging hotties in bikinis. Apparently Miss Russia Ekaterina Plekhova won, and after a quick survey of the competition, I think they made the right choice. It will be titled Batman Vs. Superman, but another super hero may still the blockbuster show. Gal Gadot, an Israeli actress best known for appearing in the Fast and Furious franchise, has been cast as Wonder Woman in the upcoming Man of Steel sequel. She will take on the iconic role opposite Ben Affleck as Batman and Henry Cavill (The Sexiest Man of 2013 ) as Superman. “Wonder Woman is arguably one of the most powerful female characters of all time and a fan favorite in the DC Universe,” said director Zack Snyder in a statement. “Not only is Gal an amazing actress, but she also has that magical quality that makes her perfect for the role. We look forward to audiences discovering Gal in the first feature film incarnation of this beloved character.” Gadot, 28, spent two years in the army and competed in the 2004 Miss Universe pageant as Miss Israel. Ladies and gentlemen, we have a new Miss Universe. Gabriela Isler earned the title tonight during an evening of colorful costumes and elegant gowns in Moscow’s Crocus City Hall. Gabriela Isler Wins Miss Universe 2013 The 25-year old because the seventh Venezuelan to ever take home this honor, receiving the crown after her name was announced by last year’s winner, Olivia Culpo . Thomas Roberts and Melanie Brown hosted the event, while the judges included an unusual mix of stars: Tara Lipinski, Anne V, Philiph Kirov, Carol Alt, Farouk Shami and Steven Tyler. The contest started with 87 women vying to be Miss Universe, though that number was quickly whittled to 16. Isler apparently earned major points for her answer to the question of her biggest fear and how she plans to overcome it, telling Tyler on stage and the thousands in attendance: “We should overcome all our fears and this in turn would make us stronger. As soon as we overcome our fears, we can face any challenge.” Hard to argue with those points, isn’t it? According to her bio on the Miss Universe website, Isler began taking flamenco dance lessons when she was a child. She also considers herself to be a “second mother” to her niece and her values include “being at home” and spending time with “the people she loves.” Her mother is her top role model.
