Noose Found At Duke University Weeks After Young Woman Was Taunted With Racial Slurs

Another Racist Incident For Duke University, Noose Found On Campus Racial tensions continue to rise on the campus of Duke University . The second incident in just a few weeks has students rattled. According to Duke Chronicle reports : A noose was discovered hanging from a tree on the Bryan Center Plaza early Wednesday morning. Reports on social media showed a photo of the noose, made with a thin yellow rope, with several students linking the incident to racially charged motivations. The noose was removed from the tree prior to 2:45 a.m. Wednesday. Two police officers were on the scene speaking to a group of several concerned students shortly after reports surfaced online. The incident comes approximately two weeks after students allegedly chanted a racist song at a black female student, which prompted President Richard Brodhead and Provost Sally Kornbluth to send an email to the student body affirming Duke’s commitment to racial equality. The Duke University Police Department deferred comment until the morning. The Duke People of Color Caucus, an anonymous group that emerged following the alleged chanting, released the following statement on Tumblr along with a photo of the noose: To all black students, staff, faculty, and/or Durhamites on campus and in the area: Please take care of yourselves and each other. This campus is not a safe space, and has proven beyond any doubt that it is a hostile environment for any and all black people. One reblogger of the post commented, “I don’t feel safe on my own campus.” Damn can you blame them? NY Daily News published part of a statement from the University on the incident: The thin, yellow rope was cut down around 2:45 a.m., Vice President for Student Affairs Larry Moneta said in an email to students Wednesday, according to WRAL. “To whomever committed this hateful and stupid act, I just want to say that if your intent was to create fear, it will have the opposite effect,” Moneta wrote. The North Carolina university is investigating, he said. Craziness… Just to go into a little more detail, two weeks ago, a black female student accused her classmates of chanting a racist song — which including racial slurs and an allusion to lynching — at her. That incident prompted a the formation of the Duke People of Color Caucus, an anonymous online group. Click here for a full statement from the group’s Tumblr

Ex-Ole Miss Student Indicted For Hanging Noose On Integration Statue

Former University Of Mississippi Student Indicted For Hanging Noose On James Meredith Statue The DOJ has brought civil rights charges against Graeme Phillip Harris for hanging a noose and confederate flag on a statue of the Ole Miss ‘first black student. Additionally members of Sigma Phi Epsilon are believed to have played a part in the incident. NBC News reports: A former University of Mississippi student was indicted Friday on federal civil rights charges for allegedly hanging a rope and a flag featuring the Confederate battle flag around the neck of a statue of James Meredith, the university’s first black student. Graeme Phillip Harris was indicted by a grand jury on a charge of conspiracy to violate civil rights and using a threat of force to intimidate African American students because of their race or color, the Department of Justice said. The rope and an old version of the Georgia state flag, which displays the crossed bars and stars used as a battle flag by the South during the Civil War, was placed around the neck of the statue in the early morning hours of Feb. 16, 2014. Meredith was the first black student after the university was desegregated in 1962. “This shameful and ignorant act is an insult to all Americans and a violation of our most strongly-held values,” U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder said in a statement. “No one should ever be made to feel threatened or intimidated because of what they look like or who they are.” A spokesman for the university said Harris withdrew from Ole Miss in the spring of 2014, not long after the incident. There were others involved, the Department of Justice said. Three members of the University of Mississippi Sigma Phi Epsilon chapter were thought to have hanged the rope and flag around the statue. They have never been named, but the national fraternity suspended the chapter and expelled the three members from the organization a week after the incident. Sigma Phi Epsilon CEO Brian C. Warren Jr. said it was “embarrassing” that they were members. The Department of Justice said the investigation is ongoing.   SMH…bye racist beyotch!

VA Governor Orders Police Re-Training In The Wake Of Martese Johnson Attack

Virginia To Retrain Police After Brutal Beating Of UVA Student After Martese Johnson was brutally beaten by police outside an area bar with no real reason, the state of Virginia appears to be taking measures to rectify the issue. First a formal investigation was launched into the incident, and now, the governor of Virginia has ordered an emergency re-training of state officers in alcohol enforcement. But can a retraining on policy put a stop to bias-based actions like Martese’s beating? Via RawStory : Virginia’s governor, Terry McAuliffe, has issued an executive order mandating that state alcoholic beverage control enforcement agents be retrained in the wake of the violent arrest of university student Martese Johnson – who is appearing in court on Thursday charged with resisting arrest and public drunkenness. In swift action just a week after the event that occurred outside the University of Virginia (UVA) campus in Charlottesville, McAuliffe signed an executive order on Wednesday that is due to go into effect immediately and requires all such agents to be retrained by 1 September. State alcoholic beverage control (ABC) officers arrested Johnson, 20, close to the UVA grounds after he was turned away from a bar that was only admitting over-21s. Johnson ended up on the ground with blood gushing down his face from a head wound, in a scene that was captured on mobile phone video and went viral, sparking mass protests on campus and prompting the governor to order a state police investigation. In addition to the investigation, which is expected to continue until late May, McAuliffe issued an executive order that ABC enforcement agents must be retrained in the use of force and in matters of cultural diversity and how they interact with young people. Sounds like they’re trying to make a step in the right direction…or at least quiet down all the public outcry over their officers’ racist actions. Do you think this is enough?

Kim Kardashian Slammed For Not Being A Sensible Parent Since the birth of her daughter North two years ago Kim Kardashian has come under constant scrutiny and criticism for her parenting skills, or lack therof . Now one parenting expert is speaking out the latest wrongdoing on Kim’s part ! According to RadarOnline reports : Is Kim a bad mom? After Kardashian shared a photo with her baby daughter, North West , wearing a pearl necklace, a top parenting expert spoke out to RadarOnline.com to slam the reality star. “In my opinion it probably wasn’t the most sensible thing to do because that baby could have swallowed one of the beads or got herself entwined in the thread and caused her to choke,” Alison Edwards, a senior lecturer in Midwifery at Birmingham City University told Radar. “If you’re putting your baby in harm’s way, that isn’t sensible.” “Kim is being so irresponsible as a parent,” Edwards said. Edwards, who has not worked with Kim, said she is “treating her child like an accessory baby.” “She clearly loves her child. I don’t think that is a question,” Edwards told Radar. “And she’s entitled to bring her child up how she wants to.” But Edwards said Kardashian has a responsibility to set a good example: “She’s such a key figure in the celebrity world that people will try and emulate what she does and that may not be so sensible.” “You have to have a genuine reason to want to have a baby,” Edwards explained. “They are more than just an accessory because a baby is a lifetime commitment. A baby is going to require your help and support for the rest of her life.” Do you agree that Kim needs to make some adjustments for Nori’s well being? Or should people just mind their own business and worry about raising their own kids? Is it possible that Kim, with all her influence, could steer some young mothers the wrong way? On the positive side — Kim did try and channel “Frozen” star Elsa for Nori with her new look. Hit the flip for some examples of Kim’s questionable mothering skills… AKM-GSI/FameFlynet/GettyImages/SplashNews/WENN
