Sore Losers? Three Teenagers Stabbed, One Fatally, Near Baltimore Ravens Super Bowl Celebration Parade!

Life imitates ‘The Wire’ SMH Teenagers Stabbed And Steelers Fan Knocked Out At Baltimore Ravens Parade Via Baltimore Sun Three teens were stabbed, one fatally, in downtown Baltimore Tuesday afternoon, near the route of the parade celebrating the Ravens Super Bowl victory, police said. Baltimore police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said the stabbing occurred around 1:30 p.m. near the intersection of North Howard and West Fayette Streets. He said one of the three victims, a juvenile, went into cardiac arrest and was rushed into surgery at Johns Hopkins Children’s Center, where the youth died. The other two stabbing victims were taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center. One was listed in critical condition; the other was expected to live, police said. Guglielmi said the victims are 15- and 16-year-olds, but police have not released their identities. He said he knew of no motive for the stabbing and were searching for suspects. Large crowds had gathered downtown around the time of the stabbing for a parade starting at City Hall and ending at M&T Bank Stadium to celebrate the Baltimore Ravens’ Super Bowl XLVII victory. “This was an isolated incident,” Guglielmi said. “The victims knew their attackers. We believe this stemmed from a dispute. At this point, there is no information to suggest that these individuals were involved or came here for the Ravens victory celebration. We’re still trying to parse out all of those details.” In an unrelated story, Black Sports Online reports that a man wearing a Pittsburgh Steelers jersey was knocked out by an unidentified Ravens fan for reppin’ the wrong set during the parade. Colin Kaepernick Tattoos: What Do They Mean?

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick has made countless headlines for his play this NFL season, but his tattoos get plenty of “ink” as well. What’s the meaning behind the football star’s (many) tats? “The first one I got was Psalm 18:39, a scroll on my right shoulder. The verse is, ‘You arm me with strength for battle. You make my adversaries bow at my feet.'” The 25-year-old added, “Basically, it’s saying the Lord is giving me all the tools to be successful, I just have to go out and do my part to uphold that.” Kaepernick, who starred at the University of Nevada, began this season as a backup to Alex Smith, making his rise to stardom all the more captivating. The heavily-tattooed star has become a breakout hit – both personally and professionally – for his play, his swagger and yes, even his Kaepernicking . As for what ink he’ll get if the 49ers take home the Super Bowl trophy by defeating Ray Lewis and the Ravens this Sunday? “I have some in the works,” he teased. Kaepernick’s tattoo artist Nes Andrion, whose business has BOOMED since Kaepernick came off the bench to lead the 49ers offense, says he’s not done yet . “Last time we talked, when I did his entire back, we talked about maybe doing his chest,” Andrion said. As for the Kaepernick’s favorite tattoo? “He never said,” Andrion said. “I’m sure everything he put on his body has a lot of meaning to it. I think the one on his biceps [My Gift Is My Curse] is the one that represents his talent.” Who will win Super Bowl XLVIII?   The 49ers The Ravens View Poll »

Babysitters Club: NYU Student Angry Over School Policy That Allows Her Roomate’s 4-Year-Old To Live In Their Dorm Room

NYU Student Complains About Having To Share Dorm Room With Roommate’s Toddler A third-year NYU student is having a hard time coping with the fact that the University’s housing policy allows her roommate’s 4-year-old child to live in the dorm room for an extended period of time. While she says she doesn’t have any beef with her child bearing-roomie, she says she also wasn’t prepared to be rooming with a toddler. via Huffington Post Shasten Snellgroves, a junior at New York University, was stunned that she was made to share her downtown dorm room with a toddler. In an email to the Huffington Post, The Media, Culture and Communications major complained, “You can imagine my shock at the revelation that my new roommate for the spring semester is the mother of a four-year-old, and that according to NYU Housing, the child is allowed to stay overnight for a maximum of six nights per month in accordance with the guest policy.” NYU’s policy applies equally to guests of any age, and Snellgroves points out that her roommate’s child could occupy the room as a short-term guest every day so long as her child doesn’t stay overnight. She said she has no problem with her roommate and is sympathetic to her roommate’s situation. She simply doesn’t see why she’s facing consequences related to her roommate’s “life decisions” or why NYU’s housing policies shouldn’t change. The student also points out that she pays $8,340 in tuition, room and board per semester for the on campus housing and would not have entered into the contract if she knew she’d be rooming with a child. Room, board……and babies? Aint nobody got TIME for that. Image via Shutterstock

Bandz A Make Them Fail: New Study Claims Parents Spending More On College Will Result In Their Child Having Lower Grades

New Study Claims Parents Who Spoil Their College Aged Children Contribute To Lower Grades Did you ever think your below average grades in college were due to your parents spending too much money on you during your 4-year stint? Well, a new study says that just might be the case. via Loop 2 1 The more money parents provide their children for college, the lower their children’s college grades will be, according to a new study. Laura Hamilton, a sociology professor at the University of California (Merced) found that, across all kinds of four-year institutions, greater parental contributions were linked with lower grades. She said, “It’s a modest effect, not big enough to make the kid flunk out of college, but it was surprising because everybody has always assumed that the more you give, the better your child does.” She suggested that students who get a blank check from their parents may not take their education as seriously as others because parents didn’t discuss the students’ responsibility for their education. What say you Bossipers? Does a parent making it rain on their college student give the impression that school is less of a responsibility? Image via Shutterstock

Manti Te’o Girlfriend Death: One Giant Hoax?!?

In one of the stranger, more elaborate death hoaxes to hit the Internet and way beyond, a new report suggests Notre Dame star linebacker Manti Te’o’s girlfriend did not die this year, as had been previously reported. In fact, she never even existed. Some quick background: Te’o was a Heisman Trophy finalist who led Notre Dame to an undefeated regular season. On September 12, news broke that his girlfriend, Lennay Kekua, passed away from leukemia. The story became national news three days later after Te’o starred in an Irish victory and said Kekua encouraged him to play. Kekua’s funeral took place on September 22, with Te’o not in attendance and with the above message displayed across television screens, supposedly proving that this was in accordance with his late girlfriend’s wishes. But now Deadspin has come out with an elaborate article that alleges there is no record anywhere of Kekua’s death: no obituary, no funeral announcement, no mention in the Stanford student newspaper. Moreover, there is no record of her life . University records do not show anyone named Lennay Kekua enrolled at Stanford; there is no record of her birth and, in perhaps the most confusing and troubling report, the photo above is reportedly NOT of Kekua. Deadspin claims it got in touch with a woman from Torrance, California who, upon being shown the image, replied over the phone: “That is a picture of me from my Facebook account.” The article goes on to explain why Te’o likely played a role in this hoax. Deadspin says it has reached out to the athlete for comment, but is yet to get in touch with him. It’s certainly one of the more unusual stories we’ve come across in recent memory, considering the elaborate conspiracy that would be at work here by one of college football’s most respected players… if it is proven to be true, of course. We’ll update this post as more news breaks.

Two Killed in College Shooting; Kentucky Domestic Dispute Blamed

Two people have been killed in a college parking lot in Kentucky, according to reports. The shooting occurred as a result of domestic dispute; a gunman fired into a vehicle, killing a man and a woman and wounding a 12-year-old girl. He has been charged with murder and attempted murder. The violence late Tuesday in a college parking lot locked down the campus as police searched the two buildings of Hazard Community and Technical College. Hazard, Ky., Police Chief Minor Allen said the shooting resulted from a dispute between the alleged gunman and a woman who was one of those killed. Dalton Stidham, 21, was charged with two counts of murder, 20-year-old Caitlin Cornett and her uncle, 53-year-old Jackie Cornett, and one count of attempted murder. The wounded girl was Jackie Cornett’s daughter, and remains in critical condition Wednesday morning at University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington. Caitlin Cornett, a student at the college, and Stidham had a child together and met to exchange custody of the child. Police aren’t sure what led to the shooting. College President Stephen Greiner said that at the time of the shooting, there were probably about 30 students on campus, and that staff responded quickly. “Our thoughts and sympathy are with the families of the victims of this tragedy,” he said.

Because She’s Black And Disabled?? Track Coach Who Resigned After Smashing Same-Sex-Student-Athlete 10 Yrs. Ago “Feels Ratted Out” [Video]

The University of Texas women’s track coach who resigned recently has spoken out about the incident, and she’s not very happy. In her words she felt “ratted out” or discriminated against because she’s a black disabled woman. According to CNN: The University of Texas women’s track coach who resigned under fire after the disclosure of an affair with a female student a decade ago doesn’t understand why she was targeted for punishment and questions whether she’s being treated fairly. “Is it because I have a disability? Is it because I’m black? Is it because I’m female? Is it because I’m successful? Is it now because of my sexual preference?” Coach Bev Kearney asked on CNN’s “Starting Point” Tuesday. “I had to finally come to embrace not knowing why, and I had to embrace it because the more you try to figure out why, the harder it is to forgive.” A head coach at Texas since 1993, Kearney is held in great esteem in the track world. She led the Longhorns to six national titles and was inducted into the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2007. She is widely admired for her gritty resolve to walk again after she was partially paralyzed in an auto accident. But things turned south for Kearney last year when the university learned of an affair in 2002 with a female student. The revelation came at just about the same time Kearney was discussing a pay raise and a contract extension. When asked by CNN’s Soledad O’Brien whether people around her and maybe even her former lover, a one-time student, now age 30, “ratted her out,” Kearney said, “that’s fair.” The affair began in August 2002, which is not long after the university put a policy into its handbook about consensual relationships between staff members and students. Kearney said she never really thought about the relationship from a legal perspective. “You know, you get caught up in the emotional and the physical components of a relationship, and the last thing you’re doing is thinking rationally,” she said. In an e-mail to CNN on Sunday, Patti Ohlendorf, head of the university’s legal affairs department, said: “In Intercollegiate Athletics and the coaching profession, it is unprofessional and unacceptable for a head coach to carry on an intimate relationship with a student-athlete that he or she is coaching. We told Coach Kearney and Mr. Howard that such a relationship crosses the line of trust placed in the head coach for all aspects of the athletic program and the best interests of the student-athletes in the program.” Ohlendorf denied Sunday that gender played a role in the university’s review and said she knows of no other “UT head coach who has entered into such a relationship with a student-athlete on his or her team.” Kearney said “everyone should deserve an opportunity to have fair treatment based upon your policies, whether something is morally acceptable to an individual or not, our law says it’s about the application of the law, and then at some point, there ought to be some form of consideration for that person’s past history, they didn’t find a prior relationship or a subsequent relationship.” Thoughts??
