Paul George of the Indiana Pacers broke his leg in a USA Basketball scrimmage Friday night, likely sidelining him for all of next season if not his career. The 24-year-old star was pursuing James Harden in transition defense, then landed awkwardly against the stanchion supporting the rim and backboard. He stayed down, and a replay on ESPN clearly showed his leg fracturing (the video, obviously, is graphic in nature and may not be suitable for all): Paul George Breaks Leg The Indianapolis Star says George suffered a compound fracture of his right leg. After George was taken off the court in a stretcher to a standing ovation, Team USA Coach Mike Krzyzewski led the players to mid-court in unison. He informed the crowd they were calling off the remainder of the scrimmage, while George was taken to the Hospital for Special Surgery in Las Vegas. George tweeted before going into surgery last night, “Thanks everybody for the love and support… I’ll be ok and be back better than ever!!! Love y’all!!” Early reports indicate the surgery went well, and that George, who averaged 21.7 points, 6.8 rebounds and 3.5 assists last season, may play again. He is still likely out for the entirety of the 2014-15 NBA season, however. Paul George Highlights The NBA commissioner, Adam Silver, released the following statement: “It was difficult to watch the injury that Paul George sustained tonight while representing his country. The thoughts and prayers of all of us at the NBA are with Paul and his family.” Pacers President of Basketball Operations Larry Bird said last night: “We are aware of the injury sustained by Paul George in Friday’s Team USA game … and we are obviously greatly concerned. Tyler Foster, of Spokane, Washington, is the man jumping in the air doing a toe touch. He posted his picture on Reddit as Tfoster7102 and it has over 6 million readers to date. Last week, the British newspaper ran a story in which it said the mother of Amal Alamuddin (Baria Alamuddin) was Druze and, therefore, took religious exception to her daughter marrying the actor. Clooney responded with a scathing Op-Ed in USA Today in which slammed the rumor not only as false, but as “dangerous.” George Clooney Fires Back at The Daily Mail From there, The Daily Mail issued an apology and deleted the story from its website, claiming it was NOT fabricated and that it came from to them from “a reputable and trusted freelance journalist.” What does Clooney have to say in response? Settle in, folks. This is good… “The original story never cites that source, but instead goes out of its way to insist on four different occasions that ‘a family friend’ spoke directly to the Mail,” Clooney wrote in USA Today again. “So either they were lying originally or they’re lying now.” Clooney then uses research to prove that the newspaper was well aware of this lie prior to publishing it. “In an article dated April 28, 2014, reporter Richard Spillett writes in the Mail that ‘Ramzi, (Amal’s father), married outside the Druze faith,’ and a family friend said that ‘Baria, (Amal’s mom), is not Druze.’ The Mail knew the story in question was false and printed it anyway.” Somewhere, Daily Mail editors are combing through a dictionary, wondering what this research thing means. “What separates this from all the ridiculous things the Mail makes up is that now, by their own admission, it can be proved to be a lie. A nurse who was caught having sexual intercourse with a corpse at Sherman Oaks Hospital in California was sentenced to two years in county jail Tuesday. Prosecutors said that Alejandro Razo, 62, was ordered to serve 180 days of those two years under supervised release, the Los Angeles Times reports. Razo must also attend counseling sessions and sex offender meetings. Nurse Arrested For Sex With Corpse The California nurse was found guilty June 26 of having sex with the corpse of an 82-year-old woman who had passed away from natural causes at the hospital. Razo had been assigned to prepare her for the mortuary in January 2013, until another nurse walked in and saw him doing something rather unthinkable. Allegedly, Razo had his pants down and was having sex with the body. He was soon arrested under suspicion of health and safety code violations. Razo pleaded not guilty, but L.A. prosecutors used DNA evidence to convinct him. Razo’s nursing license has been suspended following the incident, but has not been revoked, according to district attorney spokesman Ricardo Santiago. Strange But True News Hall of Fame 1. George Clooney has publicly referred to Amal Alamuddin as his “fiancee” for the first time. But the actor wishes the circumstances of him doing so were very different. Very early this morning, USA Today published an op-ed by George Clooney in which he GOES OFF on The Daily Mail for printing a story that claims his future mother-in-law opposes his engagement to Alamuddin due to her religious beliefs. As Clooney writes, according to The Daily Mail, “Amal’s mother has been telling ‘half of Beirut’ that she’s against the wedding. It says they joke about traditions in the Druze religion that end up with the death of the bride.” Adds Clooney: “Let me repeat that: the death of the bride.” Clooney goes on to deny all facts in the article, saying the newspaper has Amal’s mother’s religion wrong and that she is “in no way against the marriage.” He then says he doesn’t care when tabloids conjure up tails about the actual marriage, such as it taking place on the set of Downton Abbey ; or when they pen “idiotic stories” about him running for office or Alamuddin being pregnant. HOWEVER… “The irresponsibility, in this day and age, to exploit religious differences where none exist, is at the very least negligent and more appropriately dangerous,” the 53-year-old actor writes. “We have family members all over the world, and the idea that someone would inflame any part of that world for the sole reason of selling papers should be criminal.” Clooney acknowledges that his job makes it impossible for his private life to ever be truly private, but certain lines should never be crossed. “The Daily Mail, more than any other organization that calls itself news, has proved time and time again that facts make no difference in the articles they make up,” Clooney concludes. “And when they put my family and my friends in harm’s way, they cross far beyond just a laughable tabloid and into the arena of inciting violence.
