Super Bowl Instant Replay

It’s the day after the Super Bowl .  Cue the commercial critiques.  Every year, people are underwhelmed at the commercials.  After watching many Super Bowls and analyzing people’s responses, we have come to realize that the disappointment is more to do with the unrealistc expectations the commercial have every year and less to do wtih the commercials actually sucking more than any other year. With that being said, there were some commercials that people universally liked.  We’ve taken liberty to choose some. The first, above, was the Bud Light Dog Sitter commercial.  It was brilliant.  We saw dogs doing everything from waitressing, to bartending to DJing. Joan Rivers arguably took the place of Betty White this Super Bowl season.  Although Joan’s commercial wasn’t as good as Betty’s Snickers commercial, it was better than Betty’s replacement in the Snicker’s Super Bowl ad this year , Roseanne Bar .  Joan was like Betty in that her career is really on a steady incline proving that age isn’t anything but a number. Since GoDaddy is known for having young, hot spokeswomen, the reveal of Joan River’s was unexpected to be least.  Never mind that her head was plastered on a rocking body.  Joan has been going around today telling everyone how great her body is. Best Buy’s commercial was a riot. Ozzy Osbourne wasn’t just pretending not to know who Justin Bieber was, he really  doesn’t know who Justin Bieber is .   Bieber and Ozzy couldn’t be more different so that fact that they’re in this commercial making fun of that is hilarious. Pepsi Max was all over the Super Bowl.  This commercial was particularly great because the thoughts that the guy and the girl are each having inside their heads are so typical of every first date. Any commercial that can manage to get several classic TV shows and modern sitcoms into one spot is phenomenal.  It’s fitting that the NFL itself was behind this great commercial.  The ad shows all the sitcoms referencing the NFL over the years with the tag line that the NFL has the best fans. Car ads were also all over the big game.  Most of them were straight to the point and rather boring.  It’s for that reason that the Donny Deutsch created Darth Vader commercial was the best of the car ads.  The kid behind the mask is all over TV this week so catch him if you can.

Justin Bieber & Ozzy Osbourne

”Justin Bieber and Ozzy Osbourne to appear in Best Buy Super Bowl commercial” Ozzy Osbourne has pulled some crazy stunts in his career as a hard-living, heavy metal rocker and a reality television star. But his latest maneuver takes the cake. The aging rocker is teaming up with teen heartthrob Justin Bieber in an advertisement for Best Buy, which will air for the first time during the Super Bowl. Best Buy gave no details but said the ad would “showcase creativity and humor” to millions of Super Bowl TV viewers. We’re delighted to have Justin and Ozzy help us tell the Best Buy story. We know people have high expectations for these ads and Justin and Ozzy add a whole new dimension of fun,” said Best Buy’s senior vice president of U.S. marketing, Drew Panayiotu. For his part, the Prince of Darkness has kept his lips sealed, as has his wife, Sharon Osbourne, who was also present for the shoot. According to USA Today, the 30-second ad, which will air in the third quarter, is Best Buy’s first ever Super Bowl commercial and from the looks of it, it’s bound to leave an impression.

Justin Bieber and Ozzy Osborne team up for Superbowl Commercial

Justin Bieber has filmed a commercial for the upcoming superbowl. Justin’s commercial is a midgame ad for Best Buy, co’starring Ozzy Osbourne. The ad will be the electronics chain’s first-ever Super Bowl commercial, and the 30-second shot will air during the third quarter of the game. Details are being kept under wraps, though a photo of the Biebs and Ozzy, dressed decidedly Tron-like, has been released. The shoot took place Jan. 17 at Universal Studios, and while on set Bieber tweeted out something of a tease. “Can’t really say what I’m up to today but when u guys find out its gonna be funny as heck #todaywasepic,” he wrote. The commercial will be the first of many for Justin Bieber and Best Buy, as he’s due to appear in several more ads through the year. An expert told USA Today the teen star is likely pocketing in excess of $1 million for the gig.

‘American Idol’ Takes Nashville, Finds Potential Winner In Lauren Alaina

Teen wows the judges with her strong voice. By Gil Kaufman Steven Tyler, Jennifer Lopez and Randy Jackson on “American Idol” Photo: FOX No pressure, Nashville, but the biggest “American Idol” winner in the show’s history, Carrie Underwood, just happens to live in Music City. That was the not-so-subtle message “Idol” producers opened the show with on Thursday night (January 27) when our new favorite judging trio sat behind their desk in the legendary Ryman Auditorium to see what they could find in the home of country music. By the time they got up, they felt like they might have found a winner in a 15-year-old country girl with a voice as big as all outdoors. But things did not get off to a very good start thanks to helium-voiced chicken squawker Christine McCaffrey, a not-quite-there dental assistant from West Palm Beach, Florida, who butchered one of J.Lo’s favorite songs, Lee Ann Womack’s “I Hope You Dance.” All Randy Jackson could keep saying was, “Really? Really?” In past seasons, we’ve had twins, best friends, brothers and sisters, but Thursday night’s show brought us our first auditioning exes. Aspiring singers and former couple Rob Bolin and Chelsee Oaks made beautiful music together, singing a flawless duet on the Bee Gees’ “To Love Somebody.” “You were one voice,” a pleasantly surprised Steven Tyler told them. “Sometimes passion comes from friction, and I saw how much in love you were.” Restaurant worker Bolin, 23, showed off his deliciously raspy Ray LaMontagne-style chops on Marvin Gaye’s “What’s Going On,” while waitress Oaks, 23, was equally impressive with a rich run through Brandi Carlile’s “The Story.” Both made it through, so Hollywood Week should be interesting. Amid the great ones, there were philosophical, Lynyrd Skynyrd-lovin’, thick-as-a-brick tattoo artists, a screechy Chaka Khan killer, a kid in a blue bodysuit and a soulful former Miss Teen USA named Stormi (yes, with an “I”) who got through over Lopez’s objections about her “small” voice. And then there was 27-year-old Wickliffe, Kentucky, student Adrienne Beasley. Her inspiring story was solid — she was adopted by a white family at age 2 and raised on a farm — but her singing was even better, mixing a hint of R&B grit and country twang on Lady Antebellum’s “American Honey.” “I hear something so special in your voice, and I can’t put my finger on it right now,” said Tyler, who was close to tears after the performance. The real showstopper, though, was self-proclaimed recording artist and already-a-star Latoya “Younique” Moore, a 26-year-old who made up in sass what she lacked in vocal skills. Her tone-deaf slaughter of Tamia’s “When I Close My Eyes” was a disaster, and Tyler was kind when he joked it was “definitely unique.” Randy was more blunt, calling it annoying and making a high-pitched buzzing-bee sound while breaking the bad news. But Moore wasn’t done, as she sang her way out the door, hoping for one last chance, thinking perhaps it was just her tempo that was off and not everything else. A succession of fellas knocked it out later in the day, showing off some ear-licious deep-fried soul and grit that got the judges excited. Matt Dillard’s story was very inspirational, coming from a family that had housed more than 700 special-needs foster children over the past two decades. The brawny, cowboy-hat-wearing 27-year-old unemployed Tennessee good ol’ boy surprised the panel with his low-key cover of Josh Groban’s popera hit “You Raise Me Up.” Lopez wasn’t swayed, but Tyler agreed with Jackson that it was worth taking a chance on Dillard. Talk about saving the best for last! The judges were sure they found a potential winner in Rossville, Georgia, spunky 15-year-old Lauren Alaina, who cited her cancer-survivor cousin as the inspiration for her singing. And when she opened her mouth and poured out Faith Hill’s “Like We Never Loved at All,” the air went out of the room as her smoky voice wrapped around the ballad and hit all the high, low and in-between notes like a seasoned pro. “Best we’ve seen today … I’m blown away,” Randy said. “I think you should cry,” Tyler added as Alaina began to mist up. “Because you’re going to make 40 million people cry tears of joy, baby.” She put some icing on the cake after she brought in her family and instructed Tyler to duet with her on his “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing,” her parents’ favorite song. It’s on to Austin, Texas, next week and two more nights of auditions. Who was your favorite Nashville auditioner? Let us know in the comments! Justin Bieber to Star in Best Buy Super Bowl Commercial

Okay, fine, Fox. We’ll tune in for Super Bowl XLV. While the network has deemed an adultery-themed website as inappropriate for the February 6 broadcast, it’s gladly given a greenlight to a Best Buy as that will feature Justin Bieber and Ozzy Osbourne. “Justin Bieber is the biggest star out there, but that’s not why he’s in the spot,” Best Buy marketing chief Drew Panayiotou told USA Today . “He symbolically represents something important to the brand message.” The company won’t reveal just what Bieber and Osbourne will be up to in the commercial (which was filmed this month at Universal Studios). But it will air in the third quarter. “Very rarely do you get a big brand looking to evolve into something else,” Panayiotou says, adding that Bieber will also represent the store in upcoming Facebook ads. “We want to get this brand to a different place.”

Justin Bieber Debuts New ‘Never Say Never’ Poster

Teen sensation is shown between his Canadian hometown and the big city in movie poster. By Kara Warner The “Justin Bieber: Never Say Never” movie poster Photo: Paramount Pictures As most of Justin Bieber ‘s die-hard fans already know, the movie event of February is quickly approaching. Bieber’s first full-length feature film, “Never Say Never,” hits theaters in about three weeks, on February 11, just in time for Valentine’s Day weekend. MTV News has been keeping up with the Biebs since he announced plans for the big-screen project back in August. On Monday (January 24), Paramount Pictures released a new poster for the film, which shows the 16-year-old standing tall in the middle of a street, seemingly stuck between two worlds — on the left side is his hometown of Stratford in Ontario, Canada, which is shown in black-and-white, with a sign in the background that reads “Population: 32,000”; on the right side, Bieber is standing next to the crowded New York City skyline, which is depicted in full color. The “Baby” singer is shown dressed in all black, including a black jacket that zips up off-center, black jeans and black, unlaced high-tops. The tagline reads: “Find out what’s possible if you never give up.” It’s a nice change from the first poster , which just showed Bieber’s profile and that famous, perfectly side-swept hair, partially hidden by a hoodie. It’s interesting that the “big city” shown in the new poster is New York City, however, rather than Atlanta, where Bieber moved when he was just starting out after signing with manager Scooter Braun and linking up with ATL superstar Usher. Also worth noting are two new clips and partial trailers from the movie, called “Every Stage” and “Underdog,” respectively. Both clips show a few adorable home videos of Bieber learning to play the drums around age 3, followed by shots of what his life is like now, including screaming fans, huge sold-out concerts, his friendship with Usher, etc. What do you think of the new poster and videos? Have you already bought your tickets to see “Never Say Never”? Tell us in the comments! Exclusive: ‘Skins’ Creator Speaks Out

For the first time since the show’s premiere, Bryan Elsley responds. By MTV News staff The cast of “Skins” Photo: MTV In 2007, Bryan Elsley — working alongside his son, Jamie Brittain — created “Skins,” a drama that took British television by storm, thanks in no small part to its whip-smart writing, gritty feel and willingness to go there, unflinchingly covering topics like sex, sexual identity, substance abuse and mental health issues. In short, it was the kind of television that resonated with teens and critics alike, raising controversy along the way. In the years since its initial premiere, “Skins” gained a cult audience here in the U.S., where the British version also ran on BBC America, and in August 2009, it was announced that Elsley would be partnering with MTV to create a Stateside version of the show. And on January 17, “Skins” finally premiered … to record-setting numbers, and a new round of controversy and critics. Now, Elsley has decided to respond in a statement released exclusively to MTV News on Monday. Statement from “Skins” creator Bryan Elsley: Skins is a very simple and in fact rather old fashioned television series. It’s about the lives and loves of teenagers, how they get through high school, how they deal with their friends, and also how they circumnavigate some of the complications of sex, relationships, educations, parents, drugs and alcohol. The show is written from the perspective of teenagers, reflects their world view, and this has caused a degree of controversy both in the UK and the USA. In the UK, viewers and commentators very quickly realized that although there are some sensational aspects to the show, Skins is actually a very serious attempt to get to the roots of young people’s lives. It deals with relationships, parents, death, illness, mental health issues, the consequences of drug use and sexual activity. It is just that these are characterized from the point of view of the many young people who write the show and has a very straightforward approach to their experiences; it tries to tell the truth. Sometimes that truth can be a little painful to adults and parents. Consequences do flow from incorrect or selfish behavior but in the show, these are shown to be unexpected, hard to predict, and more to do with the loss of friendship than anything else, which in any context, is a disastrous outcome. We proceed from the idea, not that teenagers are inherently likely to misbehave, but rather that they are intensely moral and disposed to make judgments on their own and others’ behaviour. Sometimes, but not always, they get things wrong. In this teenagers are remarkably similar to adults. Their morals may not be the same as those of their parents and teachers, but they are nevertheless, highly developed and active in their world. When viewers have taken the time to watch the show in a little more depth, they are less concerned about the behavior of the characters. Teenagers can be loyal, supportive, dedicated, focused, and capable of making informed value judgments about their lives. In the pilot episode of Skins, it’s possibly easy to overlook the story wherein a young boy sets off to a party to sell drugs and have sex, but in fact, does neither of these things, because, he senses that he has been manipulated by friends and does not feel ready to have sex with someone he does not know properly. Skins is a traditionally made television series which has won countless international awards and gained a worldwide audience for stories about the joy, misery and challenges of being a teenager. The show has been used in anti-drug campaigns, has drawn praise for its portrayal of mental health issues and explorations of bereavement, sexuality, bullying and gender stereotyping. I have lost count of the letters we have been sent by viewers who tell us that they have been able to approach their parents or teachers with their difficulties after watching the show. It is something that we take a great deal of pride in and which can unfortunately be eclipsed by some of the negative attention. Our approach is not careless. We’ve created a supportive and protective environment for everyone working on the show. And of course abide by the law, and give respect to our work colleagues who in this case, are young energetic and exciting people with so much to offer to an imperfect world.
