‘American Idol’ Champ Lee DeWyze’s Singles See Slow Sales

By Gil Kaufman Lee DeWyze Photo: Matt Stroshane/ Disney After a lackluster “American Idol” season and a finale with the second-lowest ratings in the show’s history, this year’s top two, winner Lee DeWyze and runner-up Crystal Bowersox , already had their work cut out for them. The long haul begins this week with the debut of their respective first official singles on the digital charts. And so far, the numbers are, well, modest. According to preliminary figures provided by Nielsen SoundScan, DeWyze’s cover of U2’s “Beautiful Day” will come in at #10 on the Current Digital Tracks chart, selling just over 95,000 copies, which is 25 percent less than last year’s champ, Kris Allen, sold with his almost universally panned coronation song, “No Boundaries.” With final SoundScan numbers due later today, Nielsen Entertainment Vice President Chris Muratore told USA Today that DeWyze and Bowersox are trending much lower than Allen and season-eight runner-up, Adam Lambert. “It’s about half the sales total of Kris Allen and Adam Lambert following the finale last year,” Muratore said of the season-nine pair’s combined download total of around 400,000. While Allen and Lambert placed 25 songs in the top 200 during their finale week, DeWyze and Bowersox managed to chart only nine songs among the top 200 downloads. The other four DeWyze songs in the top 200 were “Hallelujah” (#20, 63,000), “Falling Slowly” (duet with Bowersox, #32, 44,000), “The Boxer” (#55, 26,000), “Everybody Hurts” (#72, 22,000) , “Simple Man” (#107, 14,000) and “You’re Still the One” (#192, 6,000). Bowersox’s cover of Patti Griffin’s “Up to the Mountain” landed at #25 (49,000), followed by “Black Velvet” (#102, 15,000) and “Me and Bobby McGee” (#105, 14,000). Both DeWyze and Bowersox have already signed major-label deals , and if they follow the previous pattern of “Idol” top finishers, their debuts should be released around November or December. Remember our report about Doug Reinhardt dating Miss USA Rima Fakih ? That was completely false. Yet not all that far off, really, in an odd way. Doug, a.k.a. Paris Hilton’s ex, a.k.a. Amanda Bynes’ ex, a.k.a. Lauren Conrad’s ex, a.k.a. that random former ballplayer guy from The Hills , is dating Miss World instead. A former Miss World, anyway. Reinhardt has been spending “every night” for the past few weeks with Lane Lindell, a beauty queen who held the esteemed crown in ’08. She’s getting a college education at the University of Georgia right now. Smart and pretty. Not bad for the latest notch on the bedpost of Doug Reinhardt … Will former Miss World Lane Lindell become Mrs. Doug Reinhardt?

Sex and the City 2 Flops at the Box Office

Blame it on the economy, the contrived storylines, the self-centered characters or a lovable green ogre. But Sex and the City 2 tanked at the box office this weekend, failing to even bump Shrek Forever After from the top spot. The much-hyped sequal pulled in $32.1 in three days, far below the $56.8 million the original opened with in 2008. The film, which takes the core four to the Middle East, has received few positive reviews; The New York Times said it “isn’t much fun at all,” while USA Today slammed it as “tasteless.” On Rotten Tomatoes, only 15% of critics polled said they liked the flick. THG’s take? There are only so many times you can find Samantha’s sexual puns witty; while focusing on a quartet of rich, successful, whining women tends to get old. At this point, the franchise is more about fashion (a lot of which you can find in our Style Store !) than anything else. But is that enough to garner a third film? And would you even wanna see one? Nicole Scherzinger Calls ‘Dancing With The Stars’ Win ‘Surreal’

By Jocelyn Vena Photo: ABC After showing why she was the front-runner to win “Dancing With the Stars” from the beginning, on Tuesday night Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger, along with her partner Derek Hough, won the show and took home the mirror-ball trophy. And even though it seemed like she would win from the start, Scherzinger admitted that the victory still doesn’t feel real. “I was genuinely surprised,” the “DWTS” champ said Wednesday (May 26) on “Good Morning America” , just hours after she won. “I had the most amazing people I was up against. It was so awesome; it’s still surreal.” Partner Hough said that he, however, always felt the pair could go all the way. “We felt the energy from the first week,” said the dancer, who also won the show’s seventh season, with Brooke Burke. “There was something amazing about it. … It truly was a phenomenal season.” In an interview with USA Today, she admitted that during the competition she learned to be less hard on herself. “I still can’t believe it,” the dancer said about the victory. “It’s slowly sinking in.” For the finale, she said, she “decided to let it all hang out.” She noted that being on the show has made her “a stronger person,” adding, “I’ve learned I can’t control everything. I’ve learned to let go. It’s been enlightening.” She knew that she had a good chance of winning after she scored a perfect score on Tuesday night. “After the tango, Derek and I started crying backstage,” she said. “It felt so good, and we knew we were going to be OK.” Scherzinger says she has Prince to thank for convincing her to go on the show that finally taught her not to be so type A all the time. “It’s not good being a perfectionist,” she said, summing up what she learned during her time on the competition. Christina Aguilera Postponed Her 20-City US Tour

American pop singer and songwriter Christina Aguilera has postponed her forthcoming US tour for more preparations. According to Aguilera’s representative, the tour around the 20 cities across USA has been moved to 2011 for the reason that the artist is busy with her debut film, Burlesque, and her new album, Bionic. The time between the album release and tour dates Aguilera is very short and she wouldn’t have time to rehearse the show. A new tour will be announced later this year. They said it last year with Kris Allen and Adam Lambert , who roomed together and genuinely seemed to be pulling for and supporting each other, and it appears to be the case again this year with Lee DeWyze and Crystal Bowersox. Except for the full-body hug Bowersox laid on an unsuspecting DeWyze on Wednesday when she realized she’d be competing with him in the finale, it’s been a bit hard to tell what kind of relationship the pair have. A friend of Bowersox’s who attended the show last week got a chance to see host Ryan Seacrest flip a coin following Wednesday night’s results show and said the off-camera scene offered a glimpse into how close these two singers have become since they met at last summer’s Chicago auditions. According to USA Today, Seacrest flipped a coin that had Crystal’s face on one side and Lee’s on the other to determine the performance order for Tuesday night’s (May 25) final sing-off. Crystal won the toss, and her friend said what happened next spoke volumes about their relationship. “Like she said on the show, it doesn’t really matter who wins at this point,” her friend told MTV News. “They auditioned together in Chicago, and they’ve been friends ever since. They genuinely like each other, and when she won the coin toss, she said, ‘I don’t care — what do you think?’ And he said the same thing, and it really seemed like they weren’t worried about the order.” For the record, Bowersox agreed to let Lee go first — which “Idol” watchers said was a smart move. It’s the question that has been plaguing Twilighters since Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart first auditioned on Catherine Hardwicke’s bed. When they spoke to Oprah Winfrey about it earlier this month, they laughed off the chatter about their relationship. And in an interview with USA Today the actors admitted we haven’t seen them out together because they’ve been deliberately hiding. But if you’re hoping their co-star Elizabeth Reaser, who plays vampire matriarch Esme Cullen, has any insight into their dating status, it seems she is the wrong girl to ask. “Oh! I don’t know!” she laughed when asked about the rumors when she stopped by the MTV Newsroom earlier this week. “I haven’t talked to Rob or Kristen in a while, so I have no idea. Like I said, you probably know way more than I do.” Reaser said she’s not really in tune with the personal lives of the people she works with. “I never know anything,” she admitted. “I’m also, like, the clueless person on set that has no idea what’s happening.
