Some Twihards have recorded a clip of Breaking Dawn Part II from Target’s DVD release of Part 1 and it’s all over the Internet. ‘Avengers’ Fans Should Feel ‘Exhausted And Fulfilled,’ Joss Whedon Says

At South by Southwest film festival, ‘Cabin in the Woods’ scribe tells MTV News, ‘It’s a ride.’ By Kara Warner Joss Whedon Photo: Michael Buckner/ Getty Images Joss Whedon has a big year ahead of him. In a little more than a month, fans will finally get to see the long-delayed horror movie “The Cabin in the Woods,” followed a few weeks later by the release of one of this summer’s most highly anticipated tent poles, “The Avengers.” When MTV News caught up with Whedon during the South by Southwest film festival press day for “Cabin in the Woods,” we asked him how his superhero film is coming together. “The most satisfying thing about ‘The Avengers’ is that soon I will finish it,” he said with a weary smile. “That’s quite an undertaking — although listening to Alan Silvestri conduct an 80-piece orchestra didn’t suck. It was a really beautiful experience,” he said of watching the Oscar-nominated composer at work. “He did such a great job: You’re listening to live music and watching your movie form in a way that it doesn’t until it has that music. That was exciting.” Another exciting aspect of the filmmaking process was interacting with his A-list actors: Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Mark Ruffalo, Samuel L. Jackson, Clark Gregg and Tom Hiddleston, to name a few. Whedon said he enjoyed “just having them all.” “When they would be together, the energy that they would give each other, the way they play off each other, the way they protect each other narratively, making sure that whoever they were coming up against had as much juice as they did. It would be easy to imagine that they would be all be like ‘me, me, me,’ and it was always ‘us, us, us,’ and that was really fun,” he explained. “Except sometimes they would just gossip so much and talk. ‘Guys, we’re rolling. We have to make a movie. This isn’t a party; this isn’t the green room.’ ” The “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and “Firefly” mastermind said he hopes audiences feel just as worn out at the end as he was making it. “I want them to feel exhausted and fulfilled,” he shared. “Not unlike ‘Cabin,’ it’s a ride, and we put the screws to them. We really put the characters through it, and we want the audience to be with them every step of the way and come out of it going, ‘That was an extraordinary experience, and now I want to pay to see it again.’ ” Someone who didn’t have to wait to pay to see the finished product is Whedon’s “Cabin” co-writer and director Drew Goddard. “Drew’s seen it: He saw the very first assembly,” Whedon said. “He was one of the first people I came to and said, ‘Where did I go right?’ ” Goddard could only offer a one-word review via third person: “Drew’s been told he’s not allowed to say anything about it,” Goddard said with a smile. “But it’s awesome.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . SXSW 2012 Kicks Off With ‘Cabin In The Woods’

On the South by Southwest film festival red carpet, Joss Whedon tells MTV News the flick had ‘a very weirdly organic genesis.’ By Kara Warner Joss Whedon at SXSW Photo: Michael Buckner/ Getty Images The annual South by Southwest film festival kicked off in splendid, if slightly soggy, fashion Friday night with the world premiere of “Cabin in the Woods.” Amidst unseasonably chilly temperatures and intermittent downpours in Austin, Texas, the film’s cast and crew braved the elements to walk the red carpet ahead of the highly anticipated horror film’s packed screening. “We are so excited to be premiering at South by Southwest: We really couldn’t have asked for a better place to premiere this film,” first-time director Drew Goddard told MTV News. “We feel like we’re a South by Southwest film, so we’re happy to be here. It worked out well for us. “I feel like South by Southwest has a swagger, a rock and roll feel to it. When you hear those words, you feel like their pushing the edge of what’s acceptable in society and I feel like — I hope — that we did the same,” Goddard added, speaking to the film’s intrigue and appeal. “Apparently, South by Southwest is a really rad festival, and I think this is a really rad film, so it’s a good fit,” star Anna Hutchison said. “Also Joss is really excited about it, so if he’s excited, you know that it’s a good thing.” Speaking of co-writer and fan-boy favorite Joss Whedon, the “Avengers” director and “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” mastermind said that the long-delayed and slightly troubled backstory surrounding “Cabin” makes it even more perfect for a SXSW showing. “It was created very independently, and it came up very organically,” Whedon said. “It wasn’t churned out of a studio system. The fact that MGM, Mary Parent was taking a lot of risks. She let us shoot word-for-word exactly what we wrote. That’s the movie we made. Then obviously it had some troubles, and Lionsgate came in, and it had a very weirdly organic genesis.” Co-star Bradley Whitford summed up his SXSW excitement with his love for its host city: “I love, love, love Austin — even when it feels like Iceland,” he said with a smile from under an umbrella. “I love this town, so I was thrilled to be able to come here.” He said “Cabin” has “a very young, hip, humorous, smart, astute thing going on.” Kristen Connolly added: “It’s awesome to know that people are excited about the movie, and it’s awesome to be here. It’s such a cool festival, I’ve wanted to come to it for ages, so I’m thrilled to be here.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . ‘Dark Shadows’ Trailer: Where Is It, Tim Burton?

With just 77 days until the film’s release, we’re still waiting for even a taste of the campy Johnny Depp feature. By John Mitchell Johnny Depp and Michelle Pfeiffer in “Dark Shadows” Photo: Warner Bros. Today is February 24. Tim Burton’s anticipated summer blockbuster adaptation of the vampire soap opera “Dark Shadows” is set to hit theaters on May 11. There are 77 days between now and the release of the film. And we still don’t have a trailer — not even a teaser. Special-effects-heavy blockbusters opening much later in the summer, including July’s “The Amazing Spider-Man” and “The Dark Knight Rises,” have already debuted multiple trailers to satisfy the bloodlust of fans hungry for just a taste of the movies they are counting down the days for. But we “Shadows” devotees have been kept waiting in the dark too long, not unlike Barnabas (Johnny Depp) locked up in a coffin and hidden away in the Collins family mausoleum. But lo, what’s that in the distance I hear? Buzz that consumer surveying of two potential trailers, a shorter teaser and longer full trailer, took place earlier this week. To be fair to all involved, by “buzz” we really mean “Internet gossip,” but it’s pretty much in line with what we’ve been able to pull together about the film from interviews with Burton and Helena Bonham Carter from late last year — namely that the director is injecting the film with an undercurrent of dark comedy. The GIF warriors over at Oh No They Didn’t got word on Tuesday from a variety of tipsters that testing on varied trailers was underway. And the buzz is … good? We’ve long been hopeful that the film would be “vintage Burton.” By that we mean dark, weird and kind of funny, and from what the ONTD tipsters are saying, that’s exactly what we may be getting. At his best, the director was capable of a balancing act few others would dare attempt. He made us care about a very odd man who had scissors for hands, after all, and laugh at the strange and colorful suburban world around him. Much of the comedy in the film appears to stem from Barnabas’ trouble acclimating to the modern world (well, 1972) when he is aroused from his centuries-long slumber by Willie Loomis (Jackie Earle Haley). According to tipster Ross2287, Depp’s delivery is spot on when he hears a car for the first time and calls out, “Show yourself Satan!” Later, during a fight with Eva Green’s evil witch Angelique, Depp earned laughs from the audience when he requested she “strategically place your wonderful lips upon my posterior and kiss it repeatedly.” More choice one-liners arise when Barnabas is introduced to his descendants. Based on these accounts of the alleged in-the-works trailers, it’s looking like the always lovable Chloe Moretz (who plays Caroline Collins) may well be a scene stealer. When Depp’s Barnabas is introduced to her and finds out she is 15, he can’t help but warn, “And no husband? You must put those birthing hips to good use at once lest your womb shrivel up and die.” Later, in what is said to be the full-length trailer, Depp sees television for the first time and is astounded, asking, “What sorcery is this?” before he rips the back panel off and yells, “Reveal yourself, tiny songstress!” Moretz then looks to her 200-year-old vampire cousin and says, “Are you stoned or something?” Is any of this even true? Looks like we’ll have to wait and see, though we decided to run with it because it’s all we have. Do you hear that, Tim Burton? It’s all we have. When it comes to this trailer, we can’t help but repeat one of Depp’s lines from the alleged mystery trailer: “Show yourself!” Do you think the ONTD tipsters have it right? Is Tim Burton readying a dark comedy with his “Dark Shadows” adaptation? Sound off in the comments below and tweet me @JohnMitchell83 with your thoughts and suggestions for future columns! ‘Avengers’ New Trailer Blasts Into Super Bowl

Marvel Studios debuts second full-length trailer during the game, as extended version appears on the flick’s official Facebook page. By Ryan J. Downey Chris Evans in “The Avengers” Super Bowl spot Photo: Marvel Captain America is from Brooklyn, New York, so he’s probably a Giants fan, right? Well, if the new trailer for “The Avengers” is any indication, Cap will have bigger things to think about than the Super Bowl this summer. The game was a big deal and all, but comic book movie fans also assembled in front of televisions and computers on Sunday (February 5) to watch a different group of uniformed supermen (and women) go to battle in ways we’ve never seen before. Marvel Studios debuted the second full-length trailer for the summer’s “Avengers,” and boy, did it deliver, true believers! An extended version appeared on the flick’s official Facebook page moments after the commercial aired during the game. Aliens, aliens, aliens! (Are those Skrulls? Kree? Asgardian something-or-others?) A Hulk-tastic climax, a bunch of alien craft getting smashed and the most action fans have seen yet from the Avengers: Captain America (Chris Evans), Iron Man (Robert Downey, Jr.), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) and the man who brought them together in post-credits sequences across several movies, Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson). The trailer opens with the familiar images of carnage on the city streets: cars overturned, explosions. The voice of Jackson as Fury says, “The world has changed.” Evans, as Captain America, looks unimpressed as he untangles his hand wraps in what looks like a midcentury-style boxing gym. “At this point, I doubt anything would surprise me,” he comments. “We are hopelessly outgunned,” Fury says, as the Marvel logo unspools and quinjets land on an aircraft carrier. As he finishes that sentence, we see that he’s standing with Thor (and presumably the rest of the team). There are more explosions brought on by an alien craft, followed by Tony Stark (Iron Man) rising with a look of steadfast determination. A close-up of Mjolnir flying into Thor’s hand, followed by thunder and lightning. Iron Man’s feet as they land on a rooftop. “Mr. Stark,” Evans says. Downey answers: “Captain.” “It’s time,” Jackson says. A close-up of Captain America’s iconic shield. Iron Man in action. As the montage continues, Thor helps Cap up off the street. Black Widow swings, then kicks, then peers over her shoulder while a car crashes between the shots. Thor lands on top of a quinjet! A large group of bad guys leap toward the city! Cap protects himself and his team from an explosion with his shield, Hawkeye shoots an arrow as he falls toward the street. Cap runs from a laser beam, Iron Man flies directly toward a small armada of alien craft. “I still believe in heroes,” Fury says. The camera then pans around all of the Avengers assembled around one another in the street. Hawkeye draws back his bow, Widow taps a clip into her pistol and Cap raises his shield. “The Avengers: That’s what we call ourselves,” Stark says casually, making a drink behind a bar as the film’s primary villain approaches him ominously. ” ‘Earth’s Mightiest Heroes’-type thing.” “I have an Army!” declares Loki (Tom Hiddleston), Thor’s half-brother from Asgard. “We have a Hulk,” Stark answers, shortly before the extended trailer’s money shot: the Hulk roaring, smashing through glass and leaping high into the air, destroying several alien craft at once. He didn’t yell “Hulk smash!” — but he might as well have. “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” writer/director Joss Whedon’s flick will unite Marvel’s Mightiest Heroes onscreen May 4. Florida Presidential Debate: Ron Paul Edition!

We counted 21 questions for Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich at last night’s GOP debate in Florida, with 12 for Rick Santorum, and a mere eight for Ron Paul. To a point, we get that this is influenced by results and polling … but on the flip side, aren’t results and polling likely to be based on amount of exposure? Why not give candidates equal free media exposure at the debates? It’s not like these are fringe guys really. Ron Paul has a strong third and second place finish and polls in double digits everywhere; Santorum won Iowa . Makes no sense. Fortunately, we came across this highlight reel of Paul’s answers from the debate in Tampa. Let’s hear it for video editing and YouTube! Florida Debate Highlights: Ron Paul Edition!

Nina Dobrev Wants to Be a Drug Addict!

Nina Dobrev may star on The Vampire Diaries , but she portrays a relatively normal character. Elena Gilbert is a mere mortal, after all. Hence why the young star wants to expand her resume to include more movies, telling the latest issue of Nylon “I want to become a different person” and adding: “I want to be a punk or a sweetheart or a drug addict! There are so many things to explore… Sometimes they’ll be like, ‘She’s not plain enough.’ Or ‘She’s not edgy enough.’ That frustrates me. I feel like a blank canvas, and I wish people would be a little more open-minded.” Dobrev is on the verge of major stardom, despite her small screen status, thanks to the wild popularity of her CW show and her relationship with Ian Somerhalder . But the actress says she wants to maintain a bit of anonymity overall. “I can’t say I’m not interested in Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt and their family,” Dobrev says. “But it’s something you fight really hard to preserve and keep private.”
