Sarah Michelle Gellar Speaks on Return to Television

To the excitement of millions of TV fans, Sarah Michelle Gellar makes her return to the small screen this summer. Years after Buffy the Vampire Slayer went off the air, the actress will anchor Ringer on The CW, a drama that has her portraying the dual roles of twins Bridget and Siobhan. What attracted Gellar to the project? “ Ringer is the perfect balance of what audiences want to see me do. It’s Cruel Intentions meets Buffy ,” Sarah says in this week’s EW . Gellar has a very good excuse for remaining away for such a long period of time. A very cute excuse, we should say: daughter Charlotte. “I got to see the first step, hear the first word. Most people – and certainly many working moms – are not lucky enough to get that. I wanted to appreciate the fact that I had worked so hard all my life to be able to have those moments. I don’t regret anything about making that choice.” It was a noble decision, for sure. But allow us to say this to Charlotte: Thanks for letting your mother back into our lives!

‘Fright Night’: The Reviews Are In!

Colin Farrell flick ‘blends Eighties cheese with Nineties snark — a combination that works better than it sounds,’ critics say. By Kara Warner Colin Farrell in “Fright Night” Photo: DreamWorks If you’ve seen the “Fright Night” trailers or are familiar with the ’85 cult classic, you know this is not your run-of-the-mill vampire movie — at least by today’s “Twilight” standards, anyway. There are no swoony undead to be found in this horror-comedy — just a lot of blood and plenty of laughs. Here at MTV News, we’ve been amped about the film from the get-go, and even featured it as part of our exclusive Sneak Peek Week leading up to the Movie Awards. The film stars Colin Farrell as a bloodthirsty vampire who heads to suburbia and terrorizes his next-door neighbor Charley, played by “Star Trek” veteran Anton Yelchin . Christopher Mintz-Plasse plays vampire convert “Evil” Ed Thompson, “Harry Potter” alum and former “Doctor Who” David Tennant is vamp-hunting showman Peter Vincent and “Solitary Man” breakout Imogen Poots portrays love interest Amy, with Toni Collette and Dave Franco also popping up. Now that the well-received reboot is finally in theaters, it’s time to see what the critics think. Grab your garlic and hold onto some holy water as we sift through the “Fright Night” reviews. The Original Story Vs. The Reboot “You’ll need a taste for nostalgia to really appreciate ‘Fright Night,’ which knowingly blends Eighties cheese with Nineties snark — a combination that works better than it sounds. Authenticity is the key to the movie’s success: the remake is actually based on a 1985 horror flick, and was written by Marti Noxon, well-known for her work on ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer.’ One thing’s for sure: if you’re expecting the self-serious brooding of ‘Twilight,’ you’re gonna be disappointed. But if you have a soft spot for cult horror comedies like ‘The Lost Boys,’ ‘The Monster Squad,’ or even the first ‘Fright Night,’ this ought to be right up your (dark) alley. Noxon and director Craig Gillespie update the attitude for a post-‘Buffy’ generation, but their remake is generally faithful to the original.” — Elizabeth Weitzman, New York Daily News The Performances “Former ‘Doctor Who’ star David Tennant has a plum role as a Criss Angel-like Vegas cheeseball whose vampire-themed stage show might hide a special connection to vampire lore. It’s a big, fun performance overshadowed only by Farrell, who plays his character as a monster who’s learned to use an ordinary-dude exterior to blend in with his new surroundings. When he asks Yelchin for a ‘sixer,’ Farrell delivers his lines with a Matt Dillon-like flatness, but his eyes tell another story: Beneath the surface, he’s all coiled hunger and pitiless manipulation, doing what he has to do to get close to victims who, against their better judgment, want to get close to him. He creates almost unbearable tension by doing virtually nothing at all, and though ‘Fright Night’ eventually reveals him as the vampire equivalent of the f—ing shark from ‘Jaws,’ it’s never better than when it lets him poke his fin just above the surface.” — Keith Phipps, the Onion A.V. Club The Final Word “As in the earlier film, this one dances always at the edge of comedy. It especially has fun with the Rules of Vampire Behavior, which Jerry even teases Charley about. Without spoiling a single thing, I can tell you that one of the inevitable stakes through the heart in this movie is an inspired use of product placement. As vampire movies go, ‘Fright Night’ is a pretty good one.” — Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times Check out everything we’ve got on “Fright Night.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . Robert Pattinson Fumes Over ‘Breaking Dawn’ Photo Leak

‘Water for Elephants’ star calls for ‘the ‘Twilight’ troops to mobilize.’ By Aly Semigran, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Robert Pattinson Photo: MTV News Twihards, your call to action for retribution and justice has come. And, the call, by the way, is coming from none other than Robert Pattinson . When MTV News caught up with “Twilight” star Pattinson on Sunday, a hot topic was those leaked ” Breaking Dawn ” photos that hit the Web (and were swiftly taken down), and the star was obviously fuming mad about the whole thing. “It’s just ridiculous. I literally can’t believe that it happened,” Pattinson said regarding the photos, which show his character, Edward, and Bella (Kristen Stewart) on their honeymoon and Bella going through what appears to be her vampire transformation. Pattinson, who said he wanted to speak to us about the leaked pictures “because MTV seemed like the right place to do it,” immediately asked for help from the series’ most hard-core — and equally ticked-off — fans. “I want the ‘Twilight’ troops to mobilize, all the good fans, and find out who these little sh–s are and just hack into their computers and destroy them,” RPattz said with a laugh, later adding, “I’m being genuinely serious, ‘Twilight’ fans … Punish them.” In fact, the 24-year-old star — who is promoting his latest flick, the period drama “Water for Elephants” — then asked Twihards to do him another favor while they are bringing down the culprits: “Find out who hacked into my e-mail address, too, and destroy them,” he urged. It wasn’t just the content of the leaked images that bothered Pattinson so much — “It’s raw footage: It’s not even what people are going to see,” he noted — but the intention behind it. “Why do this maliciously? You’re not a fan. You’re just a di–,” he said, once again with a laugh, adding,”That’s all there is to it. “I’d understand it more if they sold the stuff,” he continued, referring to those who pulled the online stunt. “But, it’s like, ‘Oh, you just want to be annoying?’ ” At one point, with an exasperated sigh, the actor called the people responsible for the leaks “idiots.” Pattinson also said he was angry on behalf of all of those who are currently working on the final two installments of the wildly popular saga, saying the leaks are frustrating “especially when you’ve been working on something for eight months.” “It’s an exciting movie, and everything is so different, and a lot of people have worked really, really hard.” Of course, Pattinson wasn’t the only one upset by the leak. On Friday, Summit Entertainment, “Twilight” author Stephenie Meyer, “Breaking Dawn” director Bill Condon and producer Wyck Godfrey released a statement on Facebook that read, “As some of you may know, pictures and screen grabs of ‘The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn’ as a work in progress have leaked on the Internet. We are extremely proud of this film and also extremely heartbroken to see it out there at this stage. The film and these images are not yet ready or in their proper context. They were illegally obtained and their early dissemination is deeply upsetting to the actors, the filmmakers and Summit who are working so hard to bring these movies to fruition to you in November 2011 and November 2012.” The message went on to urge, “Please, for those who are posting, stop. And please, though the temptation is high, don’t view or pass on these images. Wait for the film in its beautiful, finished entirety to thrill you.” Luckily, the photos, which have mostly been all but erased from the Web, didn’t even reach Pattinson. The star, who revealed that he and Stewart haven’t filmed their “Breaking Dawn” wedding scene yet, nor has he seen Bella’s wedding dress , noted, “I didn’t even see the leaks.” Sound off about the leaked “Breaking Dawn” photos in the comments section below.
