The Real Housewives of Orange County Recap: Row, Row, Row Your Boat

Previously on the Real Housewives of Orange County, the ladies headed to Costa Rica to call Alexis out on her phoniness and materialism. And Vicki took some whacky pills. This week the adventure continues and involves… paddling. Down a river, of course. Read on for THG’s +/- review! We’re still at dinner and Alexis is in tears because Tamra can’t keep her voice down. Tamra’s pretty much being a bitch right now. Minus 25. Vicki says that at times they’re all materialistic. Plus 10 for that tidbit of truth. Gretchen tries to speak up for Alexis but ends up twisting the knife a little bit more. Alexis gets up to leave the table and Heather wants to hug it out first. Alexis says no hugs. She wants to be alone. Gretchen gives her a head start and then goes after Alexis, but Alexis won’t let her in the hotel room. Here’s the kicker – this intervention all happened before dinner was even served. Way to go, ladies. Now Alexis is crying herself to sleep on an empty stomach. Minus 10. Back at the table, Gretchen bursts into tears because she hurt her friend by trying to both be honest and defend Alexis. Vicki decides to take Alexis her lobster dinner and after barging into the room, Vicki promptly begins to talk about herself. Minus 10. Gretchen’s gone from crying to cranky because Vicki was let inside Alexis’ room and she wasn’t. She’s defended Alexis so many times and this is the thanks she gets? The next morning, Alexis packs up to leave so she can go home and take care of her kids and Jim. After a night of contemplation, she’s decided she doesn’t see the phoniness in herself that the other women see. Plus 10 for believing in yourself? I guess? Heather goes to visit her and say that she wants to get to know the sweet girl she thinks Alexis is and they all have things to work on. Heather may not think she’s perfect, but I think she’s pretty close. Because of her, Alexis decides to go on one more outing with the ladies before catching her plane back to Orange County. Plus 10. In the car, Alexis thanks Vicki for visiting and completely ignores Gretchen and the fact that Gretchen went to check on her first. Minus 20. The girls have a champagne picnic on the beach and Alexis pulls Gretchen aside to talk to her. Alexis acknowledges that Gretchen was upset at dinner and Gretchen chokes up when she talks about being turned away at Alexis’ door. Alexis says she felt like she was ganged up on, even by Gretchen. Alexis says that the reason she didn’t want Gretchen in the room is because the minute she opened the door, Gretchen started talking about Gretchen. Gretchen’s explanation was a good one and Alexis completely dismissed it. Alexis only wants to hear what Alexis wants to hear. Minus 10. Alexis leaves and hopefully takes her drama with her. In an attempt to lighten the mood, or something, Tamra tries to pants Gretchen and Vicki. And then she grabs Heather’s boobs. And then she flashes Gretchen her new-old boobs. Tamra’s fun right now. Plus 10 . Vicki and Heather, the sticks in the mud, hang out on a towel and pretend to be embarrassed. Or at least I hope they were pretending. Lighten up, ladies! Vicki arranges for the ladies to all plant a tree since they’re in the rain forest. Tamra plants a “Stinking Toe” tree in honor of Eddie’s ugly feet. Heather picks one with four leaves, one for each of her kids. Vicki chooses a rain tree because, according to the guide, it has the most soul. She also chooses one for Alexis since Alexis isn’t there to plant it herself. It’s a really nice bonding moment. Then Vicki ruins the mood when she says “You know what’s going to be sad is one day when one of us dies.” Alexis’ tree falls apart when Vicki plants it. Heather notes the irony. Tamra picks Vicki’s nose. (No, seriously. She did.) Day three in Costa Rica and the girls are going white water rafting. Heather’s freaking out. As soon as they see the water, Vicki and Heather’s freak-out meters go off the charts. Tamra and Gretchen were okay with rafting until the guide said there are piranhas in the water. Gretchen actually thought she’d get out of this without getting her shoes wet. Minus 10. Vicki won’t shut up and keeps forgetting to paddle. There’s a whole lot of screaming in this boat. A lot. It’s awesome. Plus 25. After they survive the rapids, Heather heads home to take care of Terry and the kids while Vicki melts into a puddle of tears. Vicki, Tamra, and Gretchen have a beer and Vicki’s still emotional. Apparently, Donn’s going to be sad without her. Because she won’t be able to cook him dinner? And she’s the one who wanted the divorce. Vicki says that if Donn wanted her back, they’d be back, which prompts Tamra to ask “you’d go back?” And then Vicki says that she’s happy where she is with Brooks. So again, I’m confused. Then she breaks down about how she’s been married and divorced twice and Briana eloped and that was so hurtful and Briana’s her rock and blah blah blah. I think I like Vicki better when she’s being crazy. EPISODE TOTAL: -20! SEASON TOTAL:-240!

The Real Housewives of Orange County Recap: Stand By Your Man (Even If He’s a Deadbeat)

Last week, The Real Housewives of Orange County got together to play Bunco and Terry, Eddie, and Shady Slade crashed the party. This week we’re picking up right where we left off. Let’s document the drama with our THG +/- recap! In walk the men. Terry and Eddie are rocking skintight zebra pants that show off any ASSets they may have at their ages. Slade’s rocking a mullet a la Billy Ray Cyrus. Gretchen says in the one-on-one that he looks like “such a douchebag.” Ouch, Gretchen! Plus 5 . Gretchen fills Slade in on the drama that was brewing between her and Tamra’s friend Ricky. Slade responds “Let’s start sh*t.” Oh, Slade. Minus 10 . This isn’t your party OR Gretchen’s and you’re doing no favors by bringing the drama. Slade asks Ricky if he has a problem with Slade’s stand-up. Ricky replies he wasn’t even there. Vicki asks Slade when he became a comedian. Slade’s response? “When I decided to go do it.” Not an answer, Slade. Or at least not a good one. Minus 10 . Vicki calls Slade a piece of sh*t repeatedly and leaves saying she’s going to see her daughter, who actually matters. Gretchen makes a valid point to the rest of the people in the room that none of them knows what she and Slade have discussed post-Improv and Vicki comes back in to speak her mind to Slade. First, she tells him she’s sorry she doesn’t fit the Orange County mold of what he thinks she should look like, but her mom and dad think she’s pretty, so that’s all that matters. (Sidenote: Her parents have got to be, what, in their 80s now? Can they even still see her?) Slade says he never said she didn’t look the way HE thinks she should look and that he only commented on things other people had said. Vicki says it was mean and hurtful and she’s never talked about how he looked. That comment lights a fire under Gretchen. She chimes in asking how what Slade’s done is any different than Vicki calling Slade a deadbeat dad for failure to pay his child support. Vicki tells her, basically, that she has no room to speak because she doesn’t have kids of her own. Gretchen tells Vicki she’s smoking crack and calls her out for dating Brooks since Brooks also fits the definition of “dead beat dad.” They continued to shriek like banshees and I’m pretty sure someone said something about babies and vaginas while Heather, Alexis, and Tamra just looked on in horror. Plus 15 to Gretchen for defending her man and standing up to Vicki, even if Vicki says she can’t stand up for what she doesn’t know. Tamra says she wouldn’t have invited Slade if she knew he’d make Vicki that upset. And then the camera goes back to Gretchen who has gone from drunk and fired up to crying in her skinny margarita because of Vicki’s constant belittling of Slade. Tamra’s outside consoling Vicki and talking about how removed she is from the situation. Gretchen’s crying some more and talking about Vicki’s double standards and how it’s always okay for Vicki to talk about everyone else but it’s never okay for anyone to talk about Vicki. Minus 10 for the high-school drama. I mean, like Vicki said, aren’t they adults? Vicki finally leaves the party and says she’s done with Gretchen because her behavior has been inexcusable. Heather’s shocked and horrified by what’s going on and it’s a school night, after all. Tamra tells Gretchen that Vicki’s close to a nervous breakdown, but Gretchen says that’s not really an excuse. I sense trouble brewing in Gretchen-Tamra reunion land over Vicki-gate. Then Tamra says the magic phrase. “I think I need to eat some carbs.” Plus 10 Tamra. Carbs are good for you. Finally, things seem to be settling down at Bunco night. There’s food and chatting and questions of plastic surgery recovery time with Terry which prompts Gretchen to offer the gossip morsel that Alexis is going in for surgery the following week. Tamra’s first question? “Oh, is she getting her boobs bigger??” Plus 5 . Gretchen says Alexis has bad sinuses and Tamra’s not buying it. Terry offers up a little free consultation to Heather, Gretchen and Tamra. Alexis overhears their entire exchange and says she’s having her nose job at the same time as her sinus surgery because she’ll be under. And that she’ll “hock a loogie” if the ladies want her to. Minus 10 for gross. Terry says it makes total sense, but says he didn’t even know they were talking about her. Alexis gets super defensive. SUPER defensive. But Tamra DID say Alexis has a big nose and should totally get her nose done. Minus 5 Tamra. Alexis privately calls Gretchen out for not defending her. Gretchen says in a one-on-one that Alexis really needs to just move on from this. Minus 10 to Gretchen for not defending her friend and for starting the whole thing in the first place. Out in the parking lot, Alexis continues to defend her necessary nose job and says that Gretchen should have defended her. Inside, Heather calls Alexis stupid and asks Terry if a brain lift is an actual procedure. Terry says Heather should give her friends an IQ test and Heather says she’ll be sure not to use any big words. Minus 5 because I’m bored with this nose job news already. Finally, FINALLY, Bunco night ends. Finally. Briana’s in her kitchen cracking open a beer and Donn, Vicki’s sort-of ex-husband, stops in for a visit. Briana says she doesn’t really know where her place is in the middle of the divorce. Donn says he’s staying busy and living the bachelor life. Briana lets us know Donn has finally moved out of Vicki’s house and she’s glad that the two of them are able to develop an adult friendship instead of a parent-child relationship. I’m getting a slightly Woody Allen-Soon-yi vibe which kind of creeps me out. Minus 10 . Briana tells Donn about her upcoming surgery and says it’s nice to have his support because he doesn’t freak out like her mom does. Gretchen’s got a sore throat from all the screaming she did the night before and hates that she got so in the middle of everything instead of just letting Slade fight his own battle. But the fireworks continued even after they’d all gone home. Gretchen says Vicki kept texting her after she got home last night saying that she wouldn’t tolerate people talking about her boyfriend not paying child support. That she wouldn’t tolerate a man who didn’t pay his child support. Uhhh, Vicki? Hello?? Seriously? Minus 20 . Vicki and Tamra are having coffee in Vicki’s office. Tamra says she was just in the area and thought she’d stop by. Plus 5 for the coffee peace offering. Tamra says she’s just stuck between two friends. Vicki, in the one-on-one, says she’s not a hypocrite for being with Brooks because Brooks is all caught up now and works a job while Slade doesn’t. Tamra says in her one-on-one that Gretchen’s got a point – Vicki’s dating a guy who went to jail for not paying child support. Plus 10 Tamra. Then Vicki says that she’s upset that no one stood up for her and told Gretchen to shut up. Tamra says it was all white noise and impossible to follow. Vicki says she hopes to get to a point where she and Gretchen can talk and she can apologize to Gretchen, but Gretchen also needs to apologize to her. Don’t hold your breath, Vicki. Especially since Slade’s the one you really need to have the conversation with. Alexis shows up for her necessary nose job and this time, Jim actually goes with her. How nice of him, right? Alexis says her doctor is the best in the area and is “really known for his breasts.” Plus 5 for making me laugh. Alexis is a crying mess. If they don’t get her to sleep soon, this surgery’s going to be off the books because she can’t stop crying. Vicki is with Briana preparing to take Briana to the hospital for her thyroidectomy. Vicki says she feels like her world is falling apart and says, again, that the prognosis for Briana isn’t good. That she might have cancer. As they drive to the hospital, Vicki says “I feel like I’m driving into Heaven” and that she might throw up and that she doesn’t feel like she can get through this. Minus 20 to Vicki for being insane right now. Briana, in a one-on-one, says “Nothing is ever about me, or about anyone else, when it comes to [her] mom. It always ends up being about [Vicki].” Truer words have never been spoken, Briana. Except Gretchen’s said them before, too. During this episode even. Plus 10 for honesty. EPISODE TOTAL: -50! SEASON TOTAL: -30! Next week, Alexis and Briana go under the knife and Tamra gets a consult to have a little surgery of her own.

Andrea Mitchell Wistfully Yearns for Ted Kennedy’s Presence In Passing Liberal Legislation

On Friday’s edition of MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell Reports, Mitchell brought on the Boston Globe’s Peter Canellos to pine for the widow of Ted Kennedy, Vicki, to challenge Republican Scott Brown for the Massachusetts Senate seat, as well as imagine how effective the liberal “lion” would be in championing health care and unemployment extension legislation if he were still around today. A wistful Mitchell remarked of the the late Senator: “It seems as though his legacy only grows in contrast to how low, what low regard the Senate is now held because of the gridlock and the, the sort of petty differences.” Mitchell then set up the Globe’s editorial page editor as she questioned if Kennedy “were trying to pull things together politically today, if we were blessed by his presence…do you think it would still be the passion for health care, or would he be looking to the larger economic issues?” To which Canellos remembered fondly: “When it comes to unemployment, I mean you can easily hear him…thundering against those who would deny unemployment to people who have been suffering.” The following is the full exchange as it was aired on the August 20 edition of MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell Reports: ANDREA MITCHELL: Next week will mark the first anniversary of the death of Senator Ted Kennedy. There is increasing talk in political circles about whether his wife Vicki will enter politics in Massachusetts. Peter Canellos is the Boston Globe editorial page editor and a columnist and author of Last Lion: The fall and Rise of Ted Kennedy, now out in paperback. Peter thanks so much for joining us. A year later, what a change in Massachusetts politics. And we’ve seen also the pressure on Vicki Kennedy, I guess Democrats are looking for anybody to go up against the very popular political figure there, Scott Brown. PETER CANELLOS, THE BOSTON GLOBE: Yeah. I think that’s true. And I think there’s the feeling that the state has lost a lot with the Kennedy franchise kind of sidelined. And so it’s both a desire to have a good candidate against Scott Brown but also a desire to kind of rekindle the Kennedy mystique. MITCHELL: What is happening with the other members of the family and whether or not Joe Kennedy or, or any of his offspring might also be willing to get back into politics? CANELLOS: Well I think some of his offspring will get involved in politics but not run for the Senate. They would probably run for the House. MITCHELL: Right. CANELLOS: He has two 28-year-old sons. Whether he will run, whether Vicki will run, it’s all a matter of speculation right now. And they’re, they’re all downplaying it. So I would say that it’s probably more likely than not that none of the Kennedys will run. But, but nonetheless, as long as that possibility is out there, people are gonna cling to it. MITCHELL: Well one of the things that she said, that Vicki said to the Globe in an interview about this anniversary is, “My heart is so heavy. I like to just keep busy and keep moving on. And that’s why it’s been great to kind of get around. And when people honor Teddy, to be there, to always sort of look at it, from his point of view, the future, and to try to make a positive difference going forward. But when you get into that level of really thinking about, really living his life, that’s a step that’s just too hard. That’s too hard.” Thinking about trying to step into a campaign and the Senate seat. That is different from going and representing him and speaking about his legacy. CANELLOS: Oh, absolutely. And, you know, right now she’s kind of a beloved figure, and you know, people’s, you know, grief over, over his loss is sort of translated into kindness towards her. As soon as she runs for the Senate, you know, she’ll be hammered on the issues. You know she’ll have challengers. It will, will be very, very tough for her. So she has to be emotionally ready. And it doesn’t sound at all like she is right now. MITCHELL: And in thinking back over this past year, and we were up there in Hyannis a year ago and went through all of that with that extraordinary funeral and the procession and coming back to the burial at Arlington, it seems as though his legacy only grows in contrast to how low, what low regard the Senate is now held because of the gridlock and the, the sort of petty differences. CANELLOS: Yeah. I agree. And I think they miss, they miss him a lot in the Senate. I mean, he was a great sort of deal maker. And that’s, that’s precisely what they’ve missed in the last year. MITCHELL: One of the things that back in the, in the day when he was in the Senate really actively working with Republicans, if you recall back when Dan Quayle and Ted Kennedy were working on unemployment legislation together. That doesn’t happen these days. CANELLOS: Yeah. It really doesn’t happen these days. I think people were partly drawn to kind of the Camelot mystique in him, but then they were totally taken by him. He was very gregarious but he was an extraordinary hard worker and I think he, he sort of kept them honest in a way. MITCHELL: And if, if he were trying to pull things together politically today, if we were blessed by his presence, what would be his focus? Do you think it would still be the passion for health care, or would he be looking to the larger economic issues? CANELLOS: Yeah I think a little of both. He certainly would be working to shore up the health care achievement and would be out there promoting it probable more aggressively than the Democrats are right now. But I think when it comes to, to unemployment, I mean you can easily hear him, you know, thundering against those who would deny unemployment to people who have been suffering. You know he would have, he knows sort of, he knew when to make things a political issue. And, and for example, the unemployment insurance extension would have been one that he would, you know, thunder about at a, in a partisan way. But then when it came to sort of cutting a deal to get it done, he would be willing to sort of take half a loaf rather than nothing. MITCHELL: Well when you think that it was only two years ago that he came out of a hospital bed to make that farewell speech at the Democratic Convention in Denver, and then a year ago we were in, in Hyannis and in Boston, of course, for the funeral. Peter Canellos, thank you very much. This is a figure who becomes larger even after life, as large as he was in life. Thank you, Peter. CANELLOS: Thank you, Andrea.

‘MacGruber’ Stars Ryan Phillippe, Kristen Wiig Talk Awkward Sex Scenes

Intimate moments with Will Forte are ‘very sweaty and goal-oriented,’ Wiig says. By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Ryan Phillippe Photo: MTV News “MacGruber” is raw. Throats are gruesomely ripped out; F-bombs are dropped like the characters need them to breathe; and there’s some raunchy sex. It’s not the sort of thing you might see on the recurring “Saturday Night Live” sketches that spawned this big-screen comedy. Just ask co-star Ryan Phillippe , who had to insert a celery stick up his bum for a scene (really, you don’t want to know the backstory right now). That’s some R-rated funkiness, right there. And there was no body double on set to let him off the hook. “I don’t know how in detail we need to get about that,” he laughed. “But I clenched. That’s all you need to know. There was no insertion. I am still a virgin back there. “The first time I read it, I thought, ‘How tied to this are they?’ ” he continued. “It was a carrot at the time. By the time we shot it, which was near the end of the film, I think intentionally — because they thought I might back out if they sprung it on me too early — but I had seen so much insanity after the three weeks leading up to my scene that it seemed tame. I had to chip in.” Co-star Kristen Wiig chipped in as well with a wacky, intense love sesh between her Vicki St. Elmo and Will Forte’s MacGruber. How does Forte stack up as an onscreen lover? “Loud, aggressive, very sweaty and goal-oriented,” she joked. Traumatic, she could have added. “I remember walking out of the house in a bathrobe, just covered in sweat, mostly not mine,” she recalled. “And I think they had cupcakes or something, and I was like, ‘I can’t! I can’t eat those right now!’ ” Check out everything we’ve got on “MacGruber.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . Mike Pullin: I Made Out with Vicki Gunvalson!

Has Vicki Gunvalson cheated on her husband? Do you even know who Vicki Gunvalson is? She’s a star on The Real Housewives of Orange County who’s been married for 15 years to a dude named Donn. However, as Star Magazine makes clear , Donn wasn’t the guy by her side when Vicki was partying in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. That honor, to use the term very loosely, belonged to University of Manitoba student Mike Pullin, seen below on the evening in question. “Vicki was extremely outgoing and having a great time, like a sorority girl,” Pullin told the tabloid about his night with Gunvalson. “We clicked immediately and danced to rock ‘n’ roll by Bon Jovi and Journey. She was living it up. She kept talking to me. She was a big flirt.” Witnesses say Mike bought his group a round of tequila shots and Vicki showed her appreciation by kissing him the lips. What started out as a friendly peck soon qualified for definite first base territory. While it might not generate the same level of interest as Brangelina break-up rumors , we’ll keep readers apprised of Donn and Vicki’s status as a result of this bombshell.
