Jared Lee Loughner Arrest Records, Bullying History: Revealed

On the day Barack Obama delivered a moving address at the Arizona memorial service for the victims of last week’s tragic shooting in Tuscon, new information about Jared Lee Loughner was revealed. According to police records, the 22-year old accused of killing six people and seriously wounding Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords was arrested twice as a juvenile, once for marijuana possession and once for possession of alcohol. The first incident occurred in May 2006, when Loughner was admitted to the emergency room after consuming a bottle of vodka he later said he stole from his parents because he became “very upset after his dad yelled” at him. The second arrest took place in September 2007 following a traffic stop that resulted in cops discovering a joint in Loughner’s ashtray and a pipe in his pocket. Loughner was also the victim of bullying on more than one occasion. In September 2004, police were called to Mountain View High School after Loughner was “stuck with a pin – a stolen type needle, in the cafeteria,” according to official reports. Finally, in October 2008, Loughner contacted local police because he believed a former friend had posted a fake, disparaging MySpace profile about him. No action was taken, and none of this is meant as an excuse for Loughner’s alleged, horrific actions. It’s simply a look into the history of a seriously troubled young man.

Gwyneth Paltrow, Sophia Bush Related To Arizona Shooting Victims

Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords is Paltrow’s cousin. By Gil Kaufman Gwyneth Paltrow Photo: Frazer Harrison/ Getty Images The nation is in shock from the tragic shooting spree that took the lives of six people in Arizona on Saturday after a gunman attacked U.S. Representative Gabrielle Giffords outside a supermarket, shooting the Democratic House member in the head. Giffords remains in critical condition after the assault by troubled 22-year-old Jared L. Loughner, who is in police custody and has been charged with five federal counts, including the attempted assassination of a member of Congress. In total, 20 people were injured during the shooting spree and while Giffords’ wounds are considered extremely dangerous, her doctors have expressed reserved optimism that she may survive. The victims of the violence have an unexpected connection to the entertainment world. “Entertainment Tonight” reported that Giffords, 40, is the cousin of actress Gwyneth Paltrow. A representative for Paltrow released a statement about the incident, in which the star said, “Although I have never had the pleasure of meeting congresswoman Giffords, my thoughts and prayers are with her and her family as well as the other victims of this horrible act of senseless violence.” Actress Sophia Bush was also related to one of the victims, 9-year-old Christina Green, who was the second cousin of the “One Tree Hill” star. Green, who was born on September 11, 2001 and who had developed an interest in politics, was Bush’s second cousin. The actress posted a series of tweets on Sunday decrying the violence that took her cousin’s life. “There are no words to explain what my cousin’s family is going through in Arizona,” she wrote. “How can this be? Violence is never the answer.” Bush also encouraged anyone who knows somebody struggling with mental illness to lend a hand. “If you know anyone who is struggling, please reach out to them,” she added. “No one should feel so alone that they resort to senseless violence.” Green, who appeared in a book called “50 Faces of Hope” that profiled children born on the day of the September 11 attacks, had recently joined the student council at her grade school and attended the event for Giffords because of her budding interest in politics. “We got robbed, she got robbed of a beautiful life she could have had,” mother Roxanna Green told CNN. President Obama has called for a national moment of silence on Monday at 11 a.m. in honor of the victims in the shooting.

Islamophobia-obsessed Media Silent on Anti-Semitic Hate Crimes at Indiana U

Most Americans are probably unaware that Jews were the victims of more than eight times as many anti-religion hate crimes last year as were Muslims. And the reason is simple: anti-Muslim crimes receive far more media attention. Case in point: the media has been all but silent on a slew of anti-Semitic acts of vandalism at Indiana University, coinciding with the beginning of the celebration of Hanukkah (h/t Stephen Richer ): read more

Beckel to Geller: You’re a Woman, You Better Be Careful

Eric Bolling’s new show on the Fox Business Channel, Money Rocks , saw a significant display of fireworks this evening.  During a discussion of some already controversial statements made by Democratic strategist, Bob Beckel, a very heated exchange developed involving Beckel and Atlas Shrugs publisher, Pamela Geller. The controversy started when Bolling played a clip of Beckel’s previous appearance on the show in which he stated: “Look, at some point, I know it’s sensitive here in New York and probably New Jersey, but we have to get over 9/11.” What did he mean by ‘we have to get over 9/11′?  According to Beckel, this was simply an expression of frustration for a variety of things, such as extra security at airports and a few other minor inconveniences designed to catch “a bunch of non-existent terrorists.”  The short list of ‘non-existent terrorists’ since 9/11 that Mr. Beckel must be referring to, include the Madrid train bombers, Russian train bombers, Shoe Bomber, the Lackawanna Six, Fort Hood assassin, the Virginia ‘Jihad’ Network, Christmas Day bomber, Fort Dix plotters, and the Times Square bomber. Beckel might have been feeling the stress of trying to defend such a blatantly insensitive statement, by providing a blatantly inaccurate defense, as he experienced a misogynistic meltdown directed at Geller in the middle of the segment in which he said: “You’re a woman, you better be careful about saying who I carry water for.” Clip and partial transcript below… Over at Atlas Shrugs , Geller asserts that Beckel’s sexist rants were not limited to the on-air conversation.  Prior to the show, she claims: “I was the only female on the panel and as we were prepping (getting mic’ed etc) for the show, Beckel was regaling his victims (Bob Hemmer, David Webb and Bolling) with sordid tales of pole dancers and the like.  Grotesque and deliberate.” Geller states that the confrontation continued after the break: “When we cut to break, Beckel chided Bolling for not bringing ‘Jewish slumlords’ on the show (referring to Bolling’s segment on Imam Rauf’s status as a New Jersey slumlord, so named in a lawsuit against Rauf by Union City.)  When I heard Beckel’s Jew hating belch, I said ‘and you’re an anti-Semite.’  He told me to ‘kiss his ass’ to which I responded that he would never get anyone anywhere in the world to get with that.” Beckel’s appearances on FNC have been infuriating at times, but mostly for ideological reasons.  He is, after all, a liberal.  But he clearly crossed a line tonight with his uncharacteristically aggressive attacks on Geller.  Even Arlen Specter knows that you don’t start any argumentative statement with the words ‘you’re a woman.’ For your added nauseating pleasure, please watch the lead-in 11 minutes to this incident, in which the ever-bigoted Ahmad Rehab defends radical Islam by calling everybody else (particularly Geller) a bigot.  That’s what racists do though; they refer to everybody else as the racist. Racists, and bigots, and radicals.  Oh my! Enjoy… Relevant clip at (11:00 – 11:45) Geller:  I would like to address Mr. Beckel’s point.  I don’t know why you’re carrying water for the most radical, intolerant ideology in the world today.  There have been 20,000 documented radical Islamic attacks since 9/11.  Each one with the imprimatur of a Muslim cleric… Beckel:  You better be very careful.  You’re a woman, you better be very careful about who you say I carry water for, because you have no idea what you’re talking about.  (Points emphatically at Geller).  And don’t start putting me in the middle of your crap! Geller:  Don’t you point to me! Beckel:  I’ll point to you all I want! Geller:  Don’t you point to me.  You’re a misogynist. Beckel:  You’re getting yourself fifteen minutes, you get yourself fifteen minutes of fame because you’re (Bolling) picking on a bunch of Muslims. Geller:  You’re picking on a bunch of women.  You’re a woman hater. Beckel:  A woman hater?  A woman hater? Geller:  Look how you’re talking to me.  It’s outrageous. Beckel:  You are nuts. Geller:  Yea, I’m nuts. Please contact Rusty at The Mental Recession , or on Twitter @rustyweiss74

Bernie Madoff, Free at Last?

-In prison he doesn’t have to hide his lack of conscience. In fact, he’s a hero for it. * By Steve Fishman Madoff was accustomed to hearing other inmates call his name. From July 14, the day he arrived, he’d been an object of fascination. Prisoners had assiduously followed his criminal career on the prison TVs. “Hey, Bernie,” an inmate would yell to him admiringly while he was at his job sweeping up the cafeteria, “I seen you on TV.” In return, Madoff nodded and waved, smiling that sphinxlike half-smile. “What did he say?” Madoff sometimes asked. But that evening an inmate badgered Madoff about the victims of his $65 billion scheme, and kept at it. According to K. C. White, a bank robber and prison artist who escorted a sick friend that evening, Madoff stopped smiling and got angry. “Fuck my victims,” he said, loud enough for other inmates to hear. “I carried them for twenty years, and now I’m doing 150 years.” read more at http://nymag.com/news/crimelaw/66468/ added by: iamaman

Are Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin Cashing in on 9/11?

Sarah Palin and Glenn Beck are rendezvousing in Alaska this Saturday to commemorate 9/11. The event will likely share some similarities to Beck's “Restoring Honor” rally in DC. But with one important difference: This one costs attendees. Tickets for the event range from a low of $73.75 per person (including taxes and fees) to a high of $225, for a spot in the arena and participation in a 'meet and greet.' There was no indication to whom or what the proceeds will go. The costly ticket price has some on the left accusing Beck and Palin of profiting off 9/11: * What's the $$$ For? asks libertarian blogger Doug Mataconis at Outside the Beltway: “Charging for a 9/11 rally does sound odd, although presumably at least a portion of the ticket price is going toward facility rental. Nonetheless, if I was putting out that much money for a political rally I’d want to know where the profits were going.” * Shameful, writes Huffington Post contributor Bob Cesca on his blog: “These people ought to be ashamed on themselves. Unless the proceeds are going to the families of the victims (who Glenn Beck hates), I can't think of anything more gratuitous and shameless — other than, perhaps, a 'genuine slivers of Ground Zero' mail order business.” Lee Fang at Think Progress adds, “In addition to using September 11th as a launching pad to score political points, the right is now using the day to rake in cash.” * Don't Raise a Stink Just Yet, writes Christian Heinze at GOP12: “It seems a bit unseemly to charge for an event like this, but the devil or angel will be in the details of where that money goes.” * This Is a Patriotic Event, writes Sarah Palin on her Facebook page: “We can count on Glenn to make the night interesting and inspiring, and I can think of no better way to commemorate 9/11 than to gather with patriots who will 'never forget.'” http://www.theatlanticwire.com/opinions/view/opinion/Are-Glenn-Beck-and-Sarah-Pa… added by: TimALoftis

Prostitution Ads Still a Problem on Craigslist Despite Recent Crackdowns

Craigslist.com has finally nixed its controversial Adult Services section , but it looks like the popular website may still be giving the green light to hundreds of prostitution ads – with dozens more popping up on the site each day. The go-to portal for online classified ads and local discussion boards, Craigslist has been criticized for years for selling ad space to sex-peddlers and prostitution rings. Law enforcement officials and watchdog groups say that the site is frequently used by human sex traffickers and pimps to find clients for women and children who have been coerced into the sex industry. On Sept. 4, Craigslist removed its Adult Services section in response to a letter from attorneys general in 17 states urging the website to crack down on prostitution ads. But it doesn’t look like the sex traffickers had to move far. Other sections of the Craigslist site are still overrun with ads for “sensual massage parlors” – many of which have been identified as brothels by law enforcement officials or sex industry websites. In the Therapeutic Services section of the Washington, D.C. site, hundreds of ads boasting titles like “Sweet Beautiful Asian masseuses” and featuring photos of attractive, scantily-attired women have been posted since Sept. 4. Some of these businesses are being monitored by law enforcement officials for engaging in prostitution, such as the Rt. 1 Therapy massage parlor in Woodbridge, Va. The massage business was raided by police on Aug. 13 in regards to an ongoing prostitution investigation and the owners were charged with “keeping a bawdy place.” Less than a month later, and just two days after Craigslist removed the Adult Services section, Rt. 1 Therapy was still posting ads in the site’s Therapeutic Services section, touting its “Talented and Delightful Asian Staff.” Jade Tree Therapy, another Woodbridge, Va.-based massage parlor that has been investigated for prostitution , posted a Craigslist ad on Sept. 7 offering a military discount for service members. And Jasmine Therapy, located in Washington, D.C., has also been pinpointed by police as a brothel and continues to post ads in the Therapeutic Services section. Dozens of other massage parlors advertising on Craigslist, like Papaya Therapy in Falls Church, Va., Pine Tree Spa in Fairfax, Va., and Peach Therapy in Annandale, Va., have placed other ads on or been reviewed on sex escort websites like “LocalEscortPages.com” and “USASexGuide.com.” According to the Polaris Project , an organization that aids victims of forced prostitution, U.S. massage parlors are common fronts for the foreign sex trafficking industry. “Sex trafficking cases of foreign national women and children brought into the U.S. are known to occur in a wide variety of locations in the commercial sex industry, such as massage parlors,” the Polaris Project reported. And the organization noted that Craigslist ads have long been linked to sex trafficking. “Polaris Project has directly witnessed a rampant misuse of [C]raigslist by pimps and traffickers,” said the group. “Many of the victims that we have served can point to the [C]raigslist posting that a trafficker once used to market their bodies against their will.” In an open letter to Craigslist owner Craig Newmark that was printed as an advertisement in the Washington Post in August, two anonymous women who said they were coerced into the prostitution industry at a young age, pleaded with the website to crack down on the sex ads. “All day, me and other girls sat with our laptops, pasting pictures and answering ads on Craigslist, he made $1,500 a night selling my body, dragging me to Los Angeles, Houston, Little Rock – and on one trip to Las Vegas in the trunk of a car,” wrote a woman named MC, who said she was forced into prostitution at 11 years old. The second woman, identified as AK, wrote that her pimp “put my picture on Craigslist, and I was sold for sex by the hour at truck stops and cheap motels, 10 hours with 10 different men every night. This became my life…Men answered the Craigslist advertisements and paid to rape me. The $30,000 he pocketed each month was facilitated by Craigslist 300 times.” Craigslist CEO Jim Buckmaster has shrugged off criticism of the sex industry ads on his site for years, saying they were protected under “freedom of speech.” The Adult Services section was reportedly a major money-maker for the website, bringing in tens of millions of dollars a year. However, the pressure on Craigslist to remove the prostitution ads reached a fever-pitch in mid-August, after a medical student accused of murdering a woman he met on the erotic services section of Craigslist committed suicide in prison . The open letter from the former forced-prostitutes in the Washington Post also prompted a public outcry against the website. Craigslist finally responded by taking down the Adult Services section and putting a “Censored” bar in its place. Some have said the word “Censored” was used by Craigslist to make a political statement about the alleged infringement on its free speech rights. And while politicians have praised Craigslist for removing the problematic section, some acknowledge that there is still more work to be done before the site is prostitution-free. Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal said on Aug. 7 that the termination of the Adult Services section is an “important step” in combating online sex trafficking, but it is “not the end game.” Craigslist isn’t the only mainstream website that has been used to advertise prostitution. YouTube has also been criticized for allowing video ads for escort services on its site, according to ” BlueTube ,” a 2009 Special Report by the Culture and Media Institute.

From The Gulf Stream To The Bloodstream – The Video BP Doesn’t Want You to See

From the YouTube page: Several volatile hydrocarbons found in crude oil were detected in the blood of several residents from the Orange Beach, AL area. Among the hydrocarbons tested, several were detected at abnormally high levels including ethylbenzene, xylene, hexane. These individuals were not directly involved in BP's clean-up operations, nor had they been exposed to any industrial environment where the presence of these compounds would be of concern. Therefore, it can be assumed that residents living near the Gulf of Mexico shoreline are at risk of exposure to aerosolized VOC's moving inland from the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. The blood test performed on these individuals is called the Volatile Solvents Profile (Metametrix.com). The test can be obtained and administered by any physician with the ability to perform a simple blood draw. The test will be shipped to a laboratory for analysis and returned to your doctor for interpretation and treatment. The Gulf of Mexico is facing a significant threat to human health, which needs to be documented in a stringent and concrete manner. A multitude of symptoms have been reported ranging from subtle to severe; these include skin rashes and infections, upper respiratory burning, congestion and cough, headaches, nausea, vomiting, and neurological symptoms such as short-term loss of memory and coordination. Please report symptoms to the Project Gulf Impact health line: (504) 814-0283 Project Gulf Impact is currently raising funds to provide further testing to residents who cannot afford the associated costs. To provide assistance please donate at ProjectGulfImpact.org/donate. To send information or inquire on this effort please email ProjectGulfImpact@gmail.com . ~~~ http://theintelhub.com/2010/09/05/from-the-gulf-stream-to-the-bloodstream/ When Is Enough, Enough? For nearly five months, the BP oil disaster has consumed the minds of millions of people worldwide. In addition to the horrific impacts that the crude oil and chemical dispersants have daily on the environment and the economy, a fatal threat has quietly slipped by the public’s proverbial radar. The harm dealt by this silent enemy is beginning to creep into the lives of those living and working in the Gulf. The problem has been lurking in the Gulf since the first days of the BP oil spill and now has the potential ignite a disaster unlike any this country has ever seen. The test results can been seen here: ■Blood Test Results ■Blood Test Results Who is this masked bandit? What is this mysterious force that has the potential to outpace the spill’s catastrophic events thus far? Though it may sound like a simple answer, (and it is not easy to swallow) the truth is that this tragedy is silent, and if you live in the Gulf, it is most likely affecting you right now as you read this. What is it? Your health may be in extreme jeopardy due to the toxic effects of the dispersant Corexit and volatile organic compo unds (VOCs) from crude oil inundating the air. Through recent studies conducted under the combined efforts of Michelle Nix of Gulf Coast Oil Spill Volunteers, Jo Billups and Karen Harvill of Sassafrass, Dr. Robert Naman, Project Gulf Impact, medical professionals, and the brave Gulf residents who have agreed to be tested, the toxic health effects of the poisons in the air and in the sea have been documented for the first time. The results? This stands to become one of the greatest health tragedies The United States has ever seen. If this is such a powerful threat, why has it gone so under reported for so long? Why is mainstream media ignoring these potentially large-scale health problems? The scenario’s biggest problem is the scenario itself. Perpetrated by a corporation, the influx of relief that would ordinarily stream in after most acts of God has quietly gone elsewhere. Why is this killer so silent? Why have we not heard much about the disastrous health effects of this oil and dispersant in the air? Why are everyday citizens not catching on to what gargantuan health problems are coming in the not-so-distant future, affecting everyone, even the journalists who should be reporting on it? The answer may seem strange, and it is complex, however the biggest problem facing this mounting horrific scenario is… the BP oil spill was not a hurricane. The oil spill disaster in the Gulf of Mexico will go down in history as one of the biggest catastrophes this planet has ever seen. Books are already being written on how much we didn’t know. The cover up and the lies that led this country into the health crisis we are about to face will be documented in years to come. Acts of God, like hurricanes, are fast and furious, the damage is immediate. This, on the other hand, is a slow death. With a hurricane, we know the death toll, the devastation right away. We see the bodies, the houses underwater, and the numbers of dollars lost in real-time as all of the data floods the national spotlight in the aftermath of the disaster. With disasters like Hurricane Katrina, our heartstrings are tugged as we witness cities underwater, mothers crying out for their children, and the newly homeless wandering the streets. We are used to hurricanes. We have evacuation routes. Whether they function or not, we have plans in place for disasters like these. No such plan exists for the victims of an oil spill. Instinctively, we are aware of floods, fires, earthquakes, hurricanes, tornadoes, and other “over the counter” disasters. Most of us have never suffered an oil spill, much less have any notion of what to do in the event of one. The problem we are facing now transcends most disasters this nation has suffered in the last century. The oil spill, and our ensuing response, has created a darker and deadlier aftermath that will persist for decades. The difference is between a swift and lethal blow verses lingering end-stage cancer. Like the first stage of cancer, which often goes long-undetected, this aftermath is a slow, deadly creep. We are entering stage one of the Gulf residents’ proverbial “cancer”. What BP, Thad Allen, The Federal Government, and The EPA Don’t Want You To Know The residents of the Gulf of Mexico are entering a crisis whose scope cannot be calculated. Several symptoms have been reported, from subtle to severe: skin rashes and infections, upper respiratory burning, congestion and cough, headaches, nausea, vomiting, and neurological symptoms including short-term memory loss and coordination problems. These health problems, if acknowledged at all, are mis-diagnosed, buried, and mis-attributed. Amidst a vacuum created by the unwillingness of federal, state, and private sector medical organizations to address the growing health problems, independent, privately-funded groups like Gulf Coast Oil Spill Volunteers (GCOSV), Sassafrass, and Project Gulf Impact have taken matters into their own hands. Patterns are emerging. (con't in comments) added by: samantha420

Research finds repressed memories don’t exist

The idea that traumatised people, especially the victims of child sexual abuse, deliberately repress horrific memories goes all the way back to the 19th century and the theories of Sigmund Freud himself. But now some experts are saying the evidence points the other way. Professor Grant Devilly, from Griffith University's Psychological Health research unit, says the memory usually works in the opposite way, with traumatised people reliving experiences they would rather forget. “It's the opposite. They wish they couldn't think about it,” he said. In a briefing to the US Supreme Court, Professor Richard McNally from Harvard University described the theory of repressed memory as “the most pernicious bit of folklore ever to infect psychology and psychiatry”. He maintains false memories can easily be created by inept therapists. added by: ozoneocean
