While the fight between Floyd Mayweather and Victor Ortiz wasn’t particularly fascinating for about 95 percent of the bout, the final 30 seconds of it — and the interview afterwards — were about as thrilling a few minutes as we’ve had in sports all year. First and foremost, let’s set the scene: Part of the way through the fourth round, Ortiz headbutted Mayweather. Game ‘Putting On Boxing Gloves,’ Producer Mars Says

The R.E.D. Album follow-up ‘coming along crazy,’ 1500 or Nothin’ producer tells Mixtape Daily . By Alvin Blanco La Mar “Mars” Edwards Photo: Victor Decolongon/ Getty Images Behind the Beats: Mars Don’t let his relatively young age fool you: La Mar “Mars” Edwards is already an accomplished production veteran at only 26 years old. The California native’s production discography includes placements with A-list clients like Kanye West , Snoop Dogg and Chris Brown , to name a few. Mars and some fellow church musicians started a band and officially formed 1500 or Nothin’ , now a conglomerate of sought-after songwriters and producers, shortly after high school. Mars linked up with T.I., who was looking to work on his own production craft, around 2004. “We had the same attorney,” Mars told Mixtape Daily about T.I. “Tip always did beats, but he didn’t have time to do it while he’s rapping and doing business stuff, so he talked to my attorney about finding somebody that could help him form a company and produce with him as well as somebody he could learn from and possibly teach some things to. It was a no brainer for my attorney. “I got out there [to Atlanta] on the next plane smoking that day. Ever since then, he treated me like a brother,” Mars continued. “He’ll call me to talk about life. It’s more to it than me being his production partner and having Smash Factory.” T.I. and Mars, along with Lil C, formed the Smash Factory in 2005. The production team has since hooked up tracks including Nelly’s “She’s So Fly” and T.I.’s “I Can’t Help It.” While Tip has been incarcerated, Mars has asserted himself, most recently by earning an executive producer credit, alongside the likes of Dr. Dre, on Game’s just-released The R.E.D. Album . Although he produced a good chunk of the album — including the Tyler, the Creator- and Lil Wayne-assisted “Martians vs. Goblins” and “California Dream” — he was still surprised about the distinction. Mars said the Compton rapper granted him the executive producer nod because “[Game] seeing that it wasn’t about trying to get however many songs or just going up there and sending beats and just leave like other producers would.” “I just wanted to be there every day to make sure there’s input,” he added. “Even if it was songs I didn’t produce, I made sure I was vocal about it. He respected different things I would suggest.” Mars continued, “We’d been working on The R.E.D. Album for three years. Just seeing my name on the credits right when you open the album, that was pretty exciting. As well as being in good company with Pharrell and Game and Dre, that’s the icing on the cake. Especially being a producer, growing up listening to their sounds and them being a big influence on my production.” As for his upcoming projects, Mars didn’t offer any details on the new Will Smith album he and 1500 or Nothin’ are reportedly creating. He did mention working on a 1500 or Nothin’ compilation album, on Snoop Dogg’s daughter’s album and on Game’s next album. “Me and Game was in the studio yesterday,” Mars revealed. “We did two songs. That’s coming along crazy. We’re going to have no features: It’s just him rapping. No name dropping, no little things people say is clich

Chris Brown BET Award Snafu Was ‘Human Error’

BET exec Stephen Hill takes full responsibility for Drake and Rihanna mistakenly being announced as Viewer’s Choice. By Rob Markman Chris Brown poses backstage at the BET Awards on Sunday Photo: Jason Merritt/ Getty Images Sunday night’s 2011 BET Awards Show was filled with amazing live performances, heartfelt acceptance speeches and that one strange moment when a trophy was mistakenly handed out to the wrong artist. When “106 & Park” hosts Terrance and Rocsi brought contest winner Tiffany Greene on stage to announce the Viewer’s Choice Award, Greene, like all the other presenters of the night, read the winner from a tablet PC, instead of doing the traditional envelope-opening. At first, she called out Chris Brown as the victor , but then she backtracked and gave the trophy to Drake for his collaboration with Rihanna, “What’s My Name.” “Well, this awkward,” said Drake to start his acceptance speech, after his and Rihanna’s name appeared on the video screen. But then it turned out that the intended recipient was Chris Brown after all, and as the show neared its end, BET cleared up the confusion and brought Breezy out to accept the award. An embarrassed Green took to Twitter and said, “Bawling backstage. They totally f—ed me up.” In a classy move, BET President of Music Programming and Specials Stephen Hill took full responsibility for the snafu. “That BET Awards Viewer’s Choice mix-up was due to human error,” he said in a tweet . “And I was the human that made that error. I apologize to ALL affected.” It was just a single blemish on an otherwise event-filled show which featured performances from Chris Brown, Lil Wayne , Mary J. Bilge, Alicia Keys and Beyonc

Kid Cudi ‘Stepped Up’ His Acting On ‘How To Make It In America’

‘This season, my character has a lot more depth than the first season,’ Cudi tells MTV News of HBO show. By Rob Markman Kid Cudi Photo: MTV News Scott Kid Cudi Mescudi made his acting debut last year as party animal Domingo Brown on HBO’s “How to Make It In America.” While he was satisfied with his performance, this year, he aims to make strides. “This season, my character has a lot more depth than the first season, and one of the things that I really took seriously was preparing. I got an acting coach; I wanted to step it up,” Cudi told MTV News after filming a scene for season two. “With anything that I’m doing, I always want to take it to the next level — whether it’s music or acting.” The first step toward the G.O.O.D. Music rapper/singer’s acting growth was to review tape, similar to how professional athletes analyze game film. “One thing that I did, I studied the first season, I studied my performance. I knew that I was gonna get a lot more this season,” he said. “I wanted to deliver. I wanted to make the people at HBO happy. I wanted to make my management happy.” Cudi also kept his series co-stars in mind using Bryan Greenberg and Victor Rasuk as motivation to get better. “I wanted to be able to step on the camera with cats like Victor and Bryan Greenberg, who are pros at this sh–, guys who have been doing it for years, and to be able to do a scene with those guys and maintain and really deliver with the focus. I really feel like I stepped it up a whole lot, and I’m excited to see it.” The budding thespian may have to wait a few more weeks to watch: As of now, the series is rumored to begin airing during the summer with no specific date announced yet. When season two does eventually air, fans can expect to see Cudi’s Domingo with an expanded role and a little more depth. “The biggest lesson I’ve learned, I guess, is just the focus part of it, transforming into this character,” he said. “First season, my character was in six out of eight episodes, and I kinda popped up and I was here and there, and my character was more perceived as the party guy. But I really did what I could with the first [season] without having many skills.” Are you looking forward to the return of “How to Make It in America”? Let us know in the comments! Hoy In Mi Gente News: Mexican KingPin Responsible For All Those Murder Sprees Around Cancun Gets Popped

One of the men responsible for the permanent realness of sh*t in Mexico is now behind bars. The suspect, Victor Manuel Perez Izquierdo, was in charge of kidnappings, extortion and killings for the Zetas in Quintana Roo state, a federal police statement said. Police said information gleaned from the arrest of 10 other alleged Zeta members in Cancun last Saturday led to his capture Thursday. Perez Izquierdo was detained in Cancun while trying to escape in his car, the statement said. While Quintana Roo has not seen the levels of violence plaguing Mexico’s northern border states, it is a major drug trafficking zone. Unfortunately, Perez’ arrest probably won’t make a huge difference in the grand scheme of things. Also Saturday, Guatemalan authorities said they captured 15 alleged Zeta members, five of them Mexican, for alleged links to the killing and dismemberment of a Guatemalan prosecutor. Prosecutor General Claudia Paz y Paz said the suspects are under investigation in the death of local prosecutor Allan Stwolinski of Coban, a town about 120 miles northeast of Guatemala City. Authorities believe Stwolinski was slain in retaliation for helping seize 434 kilograms of cocaine from the Zetas. Police seized a cache of weapons along with the 15 suspects, including eight rifles, two grenade launchers, a grenade and ammunition for an M-16 assault rifle, said Donald Gonzalez, spokesman for Guatemala’s national police. The alleged Zeta members were detained in Coban, a stronghold of the ruthless Mexico-based drug cartel near Guatemala’s border with Mexico. The suspects are also being investigated for a possible connection to the massacre of 27 cattle ranch workers in mid-May in another northern province plagued by drug cartels, Paz said. SMH. What Is Lady Gaga Like? ‘Judas’ Co-Stars Weigh In!

‘Gaga’s a super cool girl from New York,’ Norman Reedus tells MTV News. By Jocelyn Vena, with additional reporting by Matt Elias Lady Gaga Photo: Victor Chavez/ WireImage Lady Gaga is many things to many people. She’s a pop star, a fashionista and a voice for those who feel they can’t speak for themselves. In her video for “Judas,” she took on a new role: Mary Magdalene. MTV News caught up with both Judas ( Norman Reedus ) and Jesus ( Rick Gonzalez ) from the clip, and they shared what Gaga is really like to work with. “Gaga’s a super cool girl from New York,” Reedus said. “She’s religious; she does prayers. We have some mutual friends, I think. She says prayers with her people before she goes out onstage, I’ve heard, and she’s very much a group player. And she’s not weird at all. She’s actually an artist who believes in what she’s doing and really takes the bull by the horns and is not afraid to say what she wants to say.” His “Judas” co-star, Gonzalez, said that a lot of her coolness is reflected in her partnership with creative director Laurieann Gibson . “When I first met [Gaga], she was very passionate and very driven. I was really impressed and found a newfound respect for her, because she’s such a hardworking woman and so dedicated and very creative,” Gonzalez said. “And her, with Laurieann, they make such a great team together. “I think you’re going to see a lot more amazing things with them, ’cause they totally have this synergy,” he continued. “And I’ve overheard them say it: They’re totally going to do a lot more things together. So I’m excited to see what that’s stuff going to be. … It’s really impressive.” While a lot of the time Gaga seems to offend someone with what she’s doing, Reedus said that’s not her intention. “She’s cool enough where she’s just not trying to offend people to offend people. I mean, who does that? She’s actually super talented and she’s a machine,” Reedus said. “That girl works really, really hard. … I felt sort of lazy around her. It was kind of inspiring.” What’s your impression of Gaga? Let us know in the comments!
