Is Kevin Hart The Next Great Comedian?

See the rest here:

With “Laugh At My Pain” Kevin Hart joins Eddie Murphy, Richard Pryor and Martin Lawrence as one of the few Black comedians to have a stand up comedy concert turned into a movie released in theaters. Hart has been paying dues for some time now, both on the stand up circuit and the Black movie circuit. Will this movie put him in the ranks of the Black comedy greats? Hart is an extremely funny story teller. The title “Laugh At My Pain” is extremely descriptive as Hart’s self deprecating humor is evident in the stories he tells. Like Murphy and Prior Hart turns his family and personal life into tales of amusement. While many in the hip hop generation generate their personas from bragging about how tough and how rich they are, Hart tells tales of being too short, too soft and too broke. Like Prior, Hart uses the tragedies like his father’s drug abuse to create humorous tales. Like Bill Cosby, Hart uses tales of fatherhood to make us laugh. Hart uses tales of his celebrity life and tales of growing up much like Eddie Murphy did in Raw. Hart’s comedy is not so much a series of jokes, but tales that remind you of one of your funny friends telling stories about his life, his family and his past. His personal style of story telling makes it seem as if he his talking directly to you and not to a crowd. When I talked to Kevin Hart, he seemed humble yet extremely ambitious. He says he can talk about his father’s drug abuse because today, his father is sober and healthy. He says he’s confident in his material and lets his young children watch his movies and that they know that “that’s just daddy doing his job.” Hart’s comedy idols, Chris Rock and Eddie Murphy have called him to give him praise and like most great comedians, Hart studies the legends that have come before him. Hart seems posed to make the transitions from Black movies to mainstream movies. While he may be known for slapstick parody movies like “Soul Plane” and “Scary Movie 3,” he is transitioning to romantic comedies like “35 And Ticking” and “The 5 Year Engagement,” in which he the only African American character. So far the writing for Kevin hart’s movies have not matched his own talent and joke writing ability so Kevin is writing movies and TV pilots with his own production company, HartBear. Hart also has been utilizing technology and has created his own Iphone app , a video game that also allows access to news on Hart and his stand up comedy. Judging by the bootleggers, barbershops, and the stand up comedy circuit, Kevin Hart is the number one comedian for urban America. If Hart’s movies or TV show can receive the same writing that he puts into his stand up, he can join Eddie Murphy and Richard Pryor as one of the few Black comedians who transitioned from stand up comedian to movie and TV star. Robert Rodriguez Explains ‘4-D’ Smells In ‘Spy Kids 4’

Director tells MTV News about film’s use of ‘Aroma-Scope’ technology. By Kara Warner Joel McHale, Jessica Alba, Mason Cook and Rowan Blanchard in “Spy Kids 4” Photo: Dimension Films Director Robert Rodriguez has made a career out of pushing the filmmaking envelope in various ways, from “Desperado” to “From Dusk Till Dawn” to his very successful “Spy Kids” franchise, which includes the first resurgent 3-D film, 2003’s “Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over.” To mark the release of the fourth “Spy Kids” film, Rodriguez has added another level to the 3-D canon with “Spy Kids: All the Time in the World in 4D.” And what exactly makes a film 4-D? A little extra sensory overload provided by what Rodriguez calls an “Aroma-Scope.” “Instead of just going 3-D like we did on the last one, we brought in 4-D, which is a very fun gimmick that I found in this old movie in the ’80s,” Rodriguez told MTV News of being inspired by John Waters’ use of Smell-O-Vision for 1981’s “Polyester.” “It’s kind of a scratch-and-sniff [experience] and you get to be really, almost like a video game, interactive with the movie. There are some really surprising smells, and some of the biggest laughs come from that.” Rodriguez went on to say that the Aroma-Scope, which is a card with eight numbers on it that audience members are given with their 3-D glasses, provides viewers with a less passive and more interactive film-going experience. “Even my own kids, people today are so interactive with gaming that to go and watch the movie feels so passive, so this really bridges the gap between the two,” he explained. “You’re watching the movie and then almost like video game numbers come up and you [scratch] the cards and smell almost exactly what the characters are smelling. It’s funny, the characters are all reacting to it, the adults are reacting to it — it’s really fun.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Spy Kids: All the Time in the World.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .

Cali Swag District Recall Last Moments With M-Bone

‘We was just chilling,’ C-Smoove tells ‘RapFix Live’ of being in the studio with M-Bone the day he was killed. By Alvin Blanco, with reporting by Sway Calloway Cali Swag District on “RapFix Live” Photo: MTV News Cali Swag District just dropped their new album, The Kickback, on Tuesday, following the success of their massive hit “Teach Me How to Dougie.” But the accomplishment is bittersweet since it arrived nearly two months after the murder of Mante “M-Bone” Talbert . The remaining members of the group — Yung, C-Smoove and JayAre — hit MTV News’ “Rap Fix Live” on Wednesday (July 13) and, after refuting rumors that they were involved in M-Bone’s death, talked about the last time they each spoke to their late friend. “We was talking about shoes. I just bought the Cool Greys, the Jordans,” Yung said of his last conversation with M-Bone. “He was like, ‘Man, I can’t find those nowhere, let me buy them from you.’ And I just had bought ’em, and I was like, ‘Nah.’ And [then], I was like, ‘You know what? I don’t even want them.’ But then I was like, ‘No, but I do.’ And then he was like, ‘Fine, I’m just going to go buy them myself.’ So what he did was he went to the store and he bought them and he took a picture of them [and sent it to all of us]. I was like, ‘It’s all good, though. We all got them, so we a team, you feel me?’ I used to tell him that all the time, I used to be like, ‘Yo, we a team, B.’ ” JayAre was playing a video game with his fallen friend the last he saw him alive. “I think the last time we talked, we was playing [NBA 2K11] or something,” JayAre said. “I always got the Lakers, he played with the Heat. He was a Heat fan. I think he won that game that time.” C-Smoove said, “Last time I talked to Bone, he was like, ‘Hey, is Kickback jumping?’ I’m like, ‘Yeah, man, we up here.’ He was like, ‘I’m on my way.’ Came to the studio; he came comfortable man — basketball shorts, little Heat jacket, some Nikes or something — he wasn’t even trying to impress nobody. He was just up there chilling in his little giddy-up. He just woke up, drove to the studio. We was just chilling. “And that’s right before he went to the store, man,” Smoove recalled. M-Bone was shot in his car on La Brea Avenue, not far from the Inglewood, California spot Airport Liquor and Groceries. “That was the last time I talked to him.” Smoove’s comment sparked a particularly fond memory for another member of the group. “I remember that whole day too,” Yung said. “I remember we all was at Smoove’s house for his birthday. [M-Bone] pulled up on the side. We all sitting in the cars and stuff, we got girls out there, ’cause we always got girls somewhere. It’s like 20 people, [and] like 19 of them was girls. So we out there, and Bone, he wasn’t there. And he just pulled up in his Camaro and he was like, ‘What’s going on here?!’ I was like, ‘Don’t worry about it; either you with us or you ain’t.’ And he was like, ‘I’m with you.’ So he parked and hopped in the car and then he was with us.” M-Bone’s murder remains unsolved. Jimmy Fallon to Tiger Woods: Thank You!!!

Tiger Woods made a rare television appearance last night on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon – the golfer’s first such interview since the late 2009 “incident.” We don’t have to get into Rachel Uchitel , the car crash and everything else. Fallon started off asking Woods what he’s been up to the last year and a half. “Oh, nothing, nothing… Playing bad golf,” the champion said, smiling. “From a comedian’s stand-point and my monologue writers, thank you,” Fallon said, speaking for all of us. “Your awful pain, we laughed at your pain.” Even Tiger had to chuckle when Fallon added: “Not even making jokes, it kind of wrote itself. Balls, shaft, holes, foursomes … it really writes itself!” Woods had a fairly good time after that, talking about his charitable foundation, his recent top-10 finish and his bachelor pad/backyard golf course. Later, Woods, Fallon and Parks and Recreation star Amy Poehler demonstrated Tiger’s new golf video game (ostensibly his reason for being there).
