Even from outside, I could tell that I wasn’t stepping into your ordinary vintage jewelry spot. When I entered, I felt like embraced, not only by the woman who greeted me at the door, but also by the atmosphere. There were splashes of pink, lots of gold, and the sounds of women fawning over shining jewels. The woman behind this dream of a shopping experience is Tenisha Light-Caba. The entrepreneur, who stood in the midst of all of the excitement in a jean Fenty dress , lucite heels and her own vintage Chanel earrings and gold link bracelets fashioned into anklets, started the business in 2010. However, she has been selling vintage jewelry since she was a kid living in California. “I had rummage sales every weekend, making money selling my grandmother’s jewelry,” she told me. “Then it became my chore to clean another grandmother’s jewelry. One would let me make money at the rummage sales selling the jewelry right in front of the house. Nowadays, Tenisha works with private collectors who’ve been in the business for decades to pull together her one-of-a-kind collection, which she’s been able to put in her new store located in The Oculus , otherwise known as Westfield World Trade Center in Manhattan. “I tend to like to work with the same people. This is how I’m able to get my hands on the good stuff. I take care of them, they take care of me,” she said. “They have a lot. They have more than what I could ever afford to buy. Where they get it from? Who knows.” Her collection has expanded greatly, taking her from her early beginnings of selling in a brownstone, moving on to Chelsea Market, to eventually having her own space, one of the few minority-owned businesses in the Oculus. “We first started our business in a historic brownstone in Brooklyn,” she said of her journey. “I’ve never had the space. I’ve usually worked at an artisan market. This is the biggest space I’ve ever had. This gives me a chance to really shine, have lighting and really make it my own.” It hasn’t been an easy journey, but it’s been a successful one. During her days working at markets like Artists & Fleas and Top Shop on 5th Avenue, Tenisha broke records for her sales. “I worked,” she said. “I put the work in. It’s been so many things that happened in the world over the past 10 years and in that time, I’ve had my business full time. I’m independently funded. I don’t have investors. Items from big name fashion houses like Yves Saint Laurent and Chanel, as well as daintier, unique items from all over. The good news is, everything is affordable, but there are items specific to every wallet. For instance, she has inexpensive earrings and necklaces from the ’70s, her “Dainty” and “Re.Fresh” collections. They are old stock that she received from a collector who had a wholesale business in the 1970s, and she replated everything to give it a fresh look. They are being sold between the $20-$40 range. The wide-ranging prices are part of Tenisha’s hope to make people from all walks vintage fans — and welcome when they visit Brooklyn Bleu. “I want people to feel welcomed, to feel like they’re at home. I want them to feel comfortable and good — just as good when they leave,” she said. “That’s the experience they get when they walk through the door, that’s how people treat them, that’s courtesy. That’s being professional and knowing what you have to offer as well. I have to train and work really hard with my staff too so they can pass on that same experience.” She also wants people to know that Brooklyn Bleu will be flexible. If you get a piece and for some reason you need to return it (allergies, any other unexpected issue), she welcomes it back. You’ll understand when you step in the space and find yourself mesmerized by the statement necklaces, quirky rings, avante-garde earrings, delightful vintage mirrors and ornate bags. Especially at the cost. “It’s important to offer pieces that are accessible and vintage,” she said. “When I go to a place and it feels like everything is just too expensive, it’s like, ‘I thought I was making good money! I can’t even afford this.’ I didn’t ever want people to feel that in here — and they don’t. We have customers who take four and five pieces. According to DailyMail , a gang in Mexico City caught up with a man who was accused of raping a young woman, as punishment they stripped the man naked, handcuffed him, stretched him out, and allowed a hungry pit bull terrier go to TOWN on his twig and berries. Oh yeah, the gang recorded the whole thing on video. The victim is heard screaming ‘stop, leave me now, leave me’ while the group watch. One of the gang then covers his mouth with a rag to stifle his cries for help. A second dog, a brown pit bull, appears but does not join in. Footage taken by one of the attackers shows how the alleged rapist was castrated by the ravenous dog, leaving nothing but a gaping, raw wound. By a show of hands, who feels bad for this guy? Anyone? After the frightening allegation of child abuse made public last week, fans hope that Jamie Spears will lose his convservatorship over Britney . But even as it looks like his tyrranical rule will come to an end, another complication has come up in the battle for Britney’s freedom. Just days before the court hears vital testimony, the doctor in charge of Britney’s care abruptly died. Dr. Timothy Benson was the psychiatrist responsible for Britney Spears’ long-term mental health care. On August 24, Benson passed away in Santa Monica. There has been no official release of the cause of death. But TMZ reports that, according to various sources, Benson died of an an aneurysm. The psychiatrist was 48 years old. So, within the next week or so, a court-appointed evaluator will deliver some important testimony. This is after spending three months burying themselves in all of the details of Britney’s life, care, health, and conservatorship. The evaluator’s task was determining whether Britney’s healthcare was appropriate. (Or, rather, to present evidence and an expert opinion to the court so that the judge can make that determination) Obviously, Dr. Benson was extremely relevant to this topic before his extremely sudden passing last month. Raising questions about Britney’s medical care isn’t just some cheap tactic for discrediting Jamie Spears. Last spring, even Lynne expresed concerns, and filed with the court to remain in the loop on Britney’s health and treatments. Before that, Britney’s mom had never publicly expressed much interest in her daughter’s psychiatric care or conservatorship. Now, it doesn’t sound like she trusts Jamie to always act in Britney’s interests. She has even openly discussed what some would call conspiracy theories about the conservatorship manipulating Britney’s social media. The good news right now is that Jamie Spears will not be holding Britney’s leash for long. He has filed with the court to be relieved of conservatorship, passing down the reigns to Britney’s case manager, Jodi Montgomery. This move is temporary, for now, but has to do with the conservator being ultimately responsible for Britney’s children. You can’t responsibly look after Sean Preston and Jayden James if you’re not allowed near them. And Jamie is not permitted near them because he is under police investigation for allegedly assaulting Sean Preston. Child abusers should not be conservators, particularly when that means managing their alleged victims. Jodi is expected to remain in the conservatorship position until January, but it’s possible that Jamie will never regain that position. (Fingers crossed, folks!) One major factor will be the conclusions that the evaluator has drawn. (Not to speak ill of the dead, but Dr. Benson’s qualifications to treat Britney when he normally helps professional athletes … some people had questions) Another major factor will be the results of the criminal investigation into Jamie. Of course, given that the US justice system is genuinely not designed to protect children, the evaluator is more likely to have an impact. The #FreeBritney has been growing louder this year, arguing that her conservatorship has gone on longer than it should have. It’s not clear what “serious psychological problems” she may have that allegedly require a lifetime of micromanagement. Countless adults have psychiatric ailments and manage their own medications and behavior just fine. A lot of hopes from fans are riding on what the evaluator may have to say about what Britney really needs and whether she’s getting it. In the end, we all want what’s best for Britney and for her children. Of course, creepily, that’s probably what her terrible dad would say. Source: Jerritt Clark / Getty Tristan Thompson Was All Over The KUWTK Premiere Season 17 of Keeping Up With The Kardashians premiered on E! this Sunday, and following last season’s drama-filled episodes surrounding the Khloe-Tristan-Jordyn saga, it’s no surprise that their first episode back dealt with some of the longer term aftermath. The episode revolved around Khloe prepping for baby True’s over-the-top first birthday party, which involved questioning her decision to invite Tristan to the party only a few weeks post-break-up. Since they supposedly hadn’t seen one another since his tryst with Jordyn Woods , Khloe decided to invite Tristan over to see True before the party–which is where she says he awkwardly tried to kiss her (seems like a pattern for him, huh?). Later on, at the party, we see Kanye and Tristan deep in conversation for what seems like a pretty long time, which sends Kim over to assess the situation. Ye explains that Tristan went over to confront him about his music being used in KUWTK promo videos to “push a narrative” about his whole cheating scandal, which Thompson wasn’t a fan of. For some reason, this conversation leads Khloe to storm out of her own daughter’s party crying. So like, Farrah Abraham is not a good mother. At this point, that's not so much an opinion as it as a fact. Memories As we said, Farrah is not a good mom. We’d be here all day looking back on all of the ways she’s failed as a parent, but hey, why don’t we hit the hightlights real quick? 2. Looking Back Remember when Sophia was a baby and Farrah would do things like leave her in the sink for a bath unsupervised, or leave her at the top of the stairs unsupervised or leave her on a very tall bad unsupervised? 3. Not Great The kid spent a ton of time unsupervised, to the point where Farrah made a statement that “Sophia has her own life and is doing her own thing, and I’m doing mine” when she left her with her own parents for a while. Sophia was four at the time. 4. Wait But then again, it’s not like things were much better when Farrah actually put in an effort. 5. Goodness She tried to tweeze Sophia’s eyebrows when she was a toddler, and she thought it would be appropriate to leave her hundreds and hundreds of dollars from the tooth fairy. 6. It Never Stop And then of course there’s the fact that Farrah pulled her out of school a couple of years ago to “homeschool” her. She doesn’t have a permanent residence and she’s always dragging Sophia around the world with her, so we’re not sure when that schooling is supposed to happen, but still, can you imagine Farrah being in charge of a child’s education? Source: Justin Sullivan / Getty McDonald’s Employee Punches A Customer Over Some Cold Fries An employee at a McDonald’s in New Orleans allegedly attacked one of their customers who complained about a cold order of fries. The customer was on vacation with his wife in Louisiana last week when he complained to the McDonald’s staff that his order of fries was cold. He admitted to news station 4WWL that he was abrasive to the staff, but he didn’t expect the incident to evolve into actual physical violence. The altercation was caught on camera and shows the customer holding his food before an angry employee charges at him. “You gonna get out? Get out!” the employee yelled at the patron in the video. One of his co-workers intervened and pulled the employee away, but the fight escalated when the customer follows him. That’s when the employee put his hands around the customer’s neck and punched him in the head. According to reports from NOLA.com , though the police arrived on the scene–no charges were filed. But now, the customer is demanding that charges are filed against his aggressor. She said the following in a statement: “Out of 500 youth going through our doors I cut two young men’s hair because they asked me to and we are a family structure and so I did it and didn’t really think about it after that. I tweeted about it without much thought. It’s hair. But I regret it now and I promise you I will not be doing that again if asked…. The hatred and accusations from this took me by surprise. The backlash has been hard to be honest.” Kobe, one of the teens pictured getting his locs chopped off, spoke out about all of the backlash and said it was his choice to get his hair cut. Those tweets have since been deleted, but Hargrove said she wants to set the record straight about her previous comments. “I said that not to take away from Black Lives Matter, but to be inclusive of everyone. I never meant to belittle or disrespect anyone. I will be more sensitive of what I say moving forward. I truly have love for everyone of all races, religions and preferences, and hate does not live in me. I am so sorry for being insensitive. Despite the constant flow of backlash since Hov’s deal with the football organization went public, Roc Nation and the NFL have not addressed the controversy.
