Lou Pearlman Dies; Backstreet Boys, ‘NSync Creator Was 62

Lou Pearlman, the infamous record producer who created such boy bands as The Backstreet Boys and ‘NSync, died in prison on Thursday, according to a Federal Bureau of Prisons record. He was 62 years old. The cause of death is believed to have been an undisclosed illness. Known in during the heyday of his career “Big Poppa,” Pearlman was one of the world’s most successful music producers in the 1990s. Based in Orlando, he created The Backstreet Boys, NSYNC, LFO and O-Town. In 2000, however, members of The Backstreet Boys filed a lawsuit against their manager, claiming that Pearlman had set up their contract in an unfair manner. Via court documents, the band alleged that they had only received $300,000 …while Pearlman received millions. Soon afterwards, NSYNC also filed a similar lawsuit, as did Aaron Carter (pictured below with Pearlman) in 2002. Still, it wasn’t until 2006 when Pearlman got into real legal trouble. At that time, investigators discovered that he had defrauded investors of over $300 million in a Ponzi scheme. He did so by somehow convincing wealthy investors to put their money into shell corporations that did not exist. Pearlman fled to Indonesia in response to the charges and was captured in 2007. A year later, Pearlman pleaded guilty to charges of money laundering, conspiracy and fraud. He was sentenced to 25 years in federal prison, although a judge ruled that Pearlman could reduce his prison time ; for every million he paid back, the judge would take one month off his sentence. Pearlman never paid a dime. “Word is that #LouPearlman has passed away,” Lance Bass wrote in response to this news, adding: “He might not have been a stand-up businessman, but I wouldn’t be doing what I love today w/out his influence. Ryan Lochte Tries Again, Takes "Full Responsibilty"

Ryan Lochte has changed his story once again. For the better this time, however. Back on August 14, Lochte told the public that he and three U.S. Olympic teammates were robbed at gunpoint in Rio. But authorities investigated the alleged incident and could no evidence of such an armed robbery, leading to the eventual admission by Lochte's teammates that they actually caused quite a drunken raucous at a gas station. They vandalized the property, security guards confronted them about it and at least one of these guards did draw a weapon, ordering the group to pay for the damage. After it became clear that Lochte had fudged the truth lied, he issued a half-hearted apology that did not go over very well at all. So Saturday evening, in a sit-down with Matt Lauer, Lochte tried again.  I'm taking full responsibility for it because I overexaggerated that story and if I never did that, we wouldn't be in this mess,” he shared. “Those guys would never be in Rio. None of this would have happened. It was my immature behavior.” The 12-time medal winner said he “definitely had too much to drink that night,” saying he’s unable to say whether he was robbed or extorted. “All I know is there was a gun pointed at us, and we were demanded to give money,” he said. Lochte left Brazil the day after the incident, but his teammates remained. They actually got pulled off a plane and had their passports confiscated until they spoke to authorities and told them the truth. “I let my team down,” Lochte said through tears to Lauer. “I don’t want them to think that I left them dry. I took away from their accomplishments by being immature for one night. That’s what hurts the most.” Six more minutes of Lauer's interview with Locthe will air on Monday. For now, though, Locthe seems to understand the mess he caused. “I’m embarrassed for myself… I know what I did was wrong,” he said. “All I can do now is better myself in making sure this stuff never happens again. “I don’t want them to look at me like a drunk frat boy. Matt Roberts Dies; 3 Doors Down Guitarist Was 38

Matt Roberts, former guitarist for the popular rock band 3 Doors Down, has passed away at the age of 38. Matt’s father, Darrell Roberts, broke the news online just moments ago. Matt left the band in 2012 due to health issues, but continued to tour with other groups and as a solo artist. Darrell Roberts tells TMZ that his son Darrell was scheduled to perform in Wisconsin today and rehearsed with other musicians until late last night. Father and son returned to their hotel, where Darrell says he was woken around 9 am by detectives who informed him that Matt had passed away . Prescription painkillers were found on the scene. Darrell says that both he and the authorities believe Matt’s apparent overdose was accidental. At this time, no official ruling has been made with regard to the cause of death. The results of a planned autopsy will likely be released next week. Roberts was with 3 Doors Down when the band rose to international fame with their 2000 hit “Kryptonite.” He stuck with the group for their subsequent best-selling singles “Here Without You” and “When I’m Gone.” The video for the latter song – a tribute to American war veterans – has been viewed more than 40 million times on YouTube: 3 Doors Down: “When I’m Gone” His musical talents and signature spiked blonde hair made Roberts one of the band’s most popular members. Darrell Roberts says his son’s fan base remained devoted even after he was forced to leave the band. He adds that Matt was “deeply beloved” by family and friends and described the loss as “devastating.” Tributes from fans and colleagues began pouring in on social media just minutes after news of Matt’s death was made public. One of our favorite celebrities on the entire planet turns 24 years old today. Won’t you join us in honoring Demi Lovato? The singer celebrates her birthday on August 20 and we’re only too happy to celebrate Lovato on a constant basis. Why? First, because she’s pretty talented. Lovato writes a lot of her own material and puts on a pretty great show, as millions of young fans who have attended her concerts can attest to. But that’s only the beginning. Lovato is truly one of our role models in Hollywood because she is never afraid to speak her mind. Not even a quarter-century old yet, Demi has been through more in her short life than most people will go through in eight decades. As Lovato has no problem talking about, she spent several weeks in rehab toward the end of 2010, battling an addiction to various drugs as well as an eating disorder. Because of you, I stopped self-harming,’ or ‘I got sober.’ “Hearing those things gave my life new meaning… “At times I was resentful for having that kind of responsibility. Dwayne Johnson: How Did He Diss Vin Diesel Now?

Dwayne Johnson just wrapped filming on Fast 8. Soon afterward, he took to Instagram and showed cast and crew members from the movie with praise and gratitude. Well, MOST cast and crew members, that is. “Finished strong and on to the next. That’s an officially wrap on #FastAndFurious8. Thank you to our director @fgarygray for the vision and execution,” Johnson wrote as a caption to the image above. Fair enough, right? It’s also a good thing and a nice thing to thank one’s director. But then Johnson continued as follows: “Thank you to all my fellow co-stars for the daily effort and grind. Scott Eastwood you handsome sumbitch! Natalie Emmanuel I have a cold Budweiser ready for you and Tyrese Gibson you still have the biggest smile and forehead I’ve ever seen.” This is how Johnson concluded his message: “And a huge THANK YOU to our hard working production crew – the backbone of our business. Your kind words meant a lot to me last night – thank you! “In the end, we all rallied, as great teams do, kicked ass and will deliver an amazing movie to the world. Proud of our entire FAST FAMILY.” That’s a very kind sentiment, except there’s clearly someone in the Fast Family who Johnson failed to mention: Vin Diesel. We somehow doubt this was an accidental oversight. A couple weeks ago, Johnson went on a social media tirade against an unnamed male co-star who he seemed “unprofessional” and called, quite simply, a “candy ass.” He wrote: “Some conduct themselves as stand up men and true professionals, while others don’t. The ones that don’t are too chicken sh*t to do anything about it anyway. Candy asses. “When you watch this movie next April and it seems like I’m not acting in some of these scenes and my blood is legit boiling – you’re right.” It didn’t take long for sources to confirm that his beef was with Diesel . Insiders told TMZ that Diesel let the power of being a producer go to his head. He allegedly acted like a giant dick on set, berating other actors, showing up late and generally acting like a jerk. Should Johnson receive some flak for not calling Diesel out by name in his Instagram rant ? Perhaps. But most crew members say Johnson was a true, hard-working, generous professional on set. They say Diesel was the opposite. How has Diesel responded to this feud? By briefly acknowledging its existence and by saying he’ll soon tell everyone absolutely everything . He’s yet to actually do this. Tyrese, meanwhile, has come out and said nice things about both Johnson and Diesel, trying hard not to take sides. No other co-star has commented on the bad blood. The first Fast 8 trailer is due in December and the movie will hit theaters in April. It will be interesting to see who is sent out on the press tour and what they say, won’t it? With all due respect to Megan Trainor, Kim Kardashian is the one all about her bass these days. And we mean ALL about her bass. The Keeping Up with the Kardashians star is on vacation in Mexico at the moment, sharing a number of photos from down south with her social media followers. Yesterday, we shared a couple close-up looks at Kardashian in a bathing suit , chilling on her trip with good friend Jasmine Sanders. At one point, Kim turned around to the camera, bent over and just shook her ass in every possible direction. It was a bit desperate, even for Kim Kardashian. But now Kim has gone ahead and upped her ass game to an epic new level. First, she posted the picture above on Snapchat, taking a selfie of her body in its most oiled-up state. Kardashian, of course, has been talking incessantly about her desire to shed 70 pounds after she gave birth for the second time in December. So she clearly wants to show off her newly svelte figure here. And also the ass that made her famous. To wit: With her phone just inches away from her rear end, Kim is Twerking up such a storm in the above GIF that Miley Cyrus may even be embarrassed. Earlier in the day, meanwhile, Kardashian donned a black “Turbo Thot” one-piece swimsuit… … which she then put up for sale on her website for $65. There was also a Twerking video she uploaded to Instagram, just in case you didn’t get the point here that Kardashian really loves her butt. Soulja Boy Threatens To Kill Nia Riley And New Boyfriend Soulja Boy has already made it clear that he is BIG MAD about his ex-girl Nia Riley getting over him and moving on with a new boo. But Soulja Boy is taking things a step further now…letting his pain push him into making extremely violent threats against her new man AND Nia herself. Via TMZ : Soulja Boy is making disturbing threats against the guy he thinks took his place … with his ex-girlfriend. The “Crank That” rapper made the vicious threat Friday in a video post … waving and pointing what appears to be a Glock with an extended magazine. It’s unclear why the threat’s being directed at Nia Riley and her BF. Not the smartest move — especially considering Soulja’s on probation for a weapons charge But Nia says the whole thing is a big misunderstanding…and she isn’t scared of shooters pulling up in her driveway: Nia tells TMZ she’s NOT calling cops to report Soulja. She says she doesn’t have a BF, and the person he threatened is just an Internet troll trying to piss off the rapper. A rep for Soulja claims the gun was a fake, and adds he’s already reached out to Nia to apologize. Kenyan Olympian Trained For Sport Via YouTube While most of the world-class athletes that end up competing in the Olympics train for years on end with state-of-the-art facilities and coaches…some end up having to pick up their prowess however they can . Via People : On Saturday, Julius Yego will represent Kenya in the men’s javelin throw at the Olympics. Unlike most of his competitors, Yego didn’t have access to a world-class training facility or even a coach. Instead, he perfected his sport by watching YouTube videos. “The need to succeed in javelin pushed me to the cyber café to watch great javelin throwers,” Yego, 27, tells PEOPLE. “I studied what they were doing to improve my training since I didn’t have a coach.” Yego says he fell in love with the javelin throw at a young age, practicing the sport with sharpened wooden sticks as his primary school didn’t have the proper equipment. “I realized I had the talent so I kept going,” he says. “I had the dream of being in the Olympics to compete with the best.” His perseverance paid off: Yego excelled in national competitions in high school, winning two junior national championships. Michael Phelps Finally Comments On Ryan Lochte’s Lochmess

Ever since Ryan Lochte was caught lying about being held at gunpoint in Rio on August 14th, people are wondering what his teammate, Michael Phelps thinks about the whole ordeal. E! News was able to get a comment from Phelps as he was leaving a Scottsdale, Arizona Starbucks. “We have good people taking care of it, so hopefully,” Phelps said when asked Lochte would come out of the scandal “unscathed.” According to sources at the coffee chain, Phelps “seemed relaxed” and graciously stopped to thank fans who congratulated him on racking up so many gold medals in Rio. Phelps, 31, landed back in America after the games on August 17th, and has been spending his first days of retirement with fiancee Nicole Johnson and three-month-old son, Boomer. Ryan Lochte: Rio Surveillance Video Today, Lochte issued a mea culpa of sorts (kind of) after it was discovered that he and three teammates lied about being held at gunpoint in Rio. “I want to apologize for my behavior last weekend — for not being more careful and candid in how I described the events of that early morning and for my role in taking the focus away from the many athletes fulfilling their dreams of participating in the Olympics,” the statement read. “I waited to share these thoughts until it was confirmed that the legal situation was addressed and it was clear that my teammates would be arriving home safely.” Jack Conger and Gunnar Bent, two of Lochte’s teammates were with him that night, were pulled off a US-bound plane in Rio so that they could be interrogated by officials. Jimmy Feigen, the third teammate, only got his passport back when he agreed to pay nearly. $11,000 to avoid prosecution. “It’s traumatic to be out late with your friends in a foreign country – with a language barrier – and have a stranger point a gun at you and demand money to let you leave,” Lochte continued. “But regardless of the behavior of anyone else that night, I should have been much more responsible in how I handled myself and for that I am sorry to my teammates, my fans, my fellow competitors, my sponsors, and the hosts of this great event.
