‘Avengers’ Trailer: Five Things We Want To See

Most importantly, we want to see the whole crew together at one time. By Kevin Sullivan Scarlett Johansson in “The Avengers” Photo: Marvel Last week, we previewed what we’re hoping to see from the “never-before-seen” footage from “The Avengers” announced for this Saturday’s New York Comic Con. That was before we found out that Marvel plans to release the first official trailer for the ultimate superhero meet-up online Tuesday. Expectations have always been high for “The Avengers,” but the surprisingly little footage we’ve seen from the actual film has put interest on a whole new level. Fans of comic book movies everywhere have been waiting a long time to get their hands on another scrap of official “Avengers” info, so for the trailer to not miss the mark, there are some specific things we need to see: The New Hulk He’s the 1,500-pound, gamma-radiated gorilla in the room. The trading of Edward Norton for Mark Ruffalo caused a good amount of controversy, but if there had to be a recasting, it wasn’t a terrible move. If you consider the Hulk and Bruce Banner two separate characters, the big green guy is the only major character we haven’t seen a single picture of, which is odd considering that we’ve already seen two iterations of a CGI Hulk. His absence would make more sense if this was something entirely new, but it isn’t. Nick Fury in Action To be fair, the wait to see Ruffalo’s Hulk seems short compared to how long we’ve all waited to see Samuel L. Jackson kick some ass as Nick Fury. He showed up eight years ago in the first Iron Man movie with promises of an Avengers gathering and some killer S.H.I.E.L.D. action. Jackson has talked up Fury’s eventual action scenes for months, but we have yet to see any proof to back it up besides a still released last week . It’s time to quit the talk and unleash the Fury. Helicarrier Speaking of S.H.I.E.L.D., what is a secret military law-enforcement agency without the signature ride to prove it? So far, most of the material we’ve seen with the Avengers assembled, specifically the set photos and the footage after “Captain America: The First Avenger,” has shown what is most likely the inside-flying aircraft carrier, and that’s probably because the film is still in production with effects shots far from completed. With an event like the first trailer, Marvel hopefully arranged for a handful of effects shots to be ready. An obvious choice for one of these shots would be the non-spoiler Helicarrier. Who’s Helping Loki? For as long as we’ve known about “The Avengers,” there’s been talk about who the villain might be. And as long as people have been talking about the villain, they’ve been throwing the Skrulls around. It’s been one of the longest-lasting rumors around the movie, and some set footage with Cap and Thor fighting off mo-cap actors only seemed to confirm it. Other than the Skrulls, Thanos and the Infinity Gauntlet have been part of the discussion for quite some time. The Infinity Gauntlet showed up in “Thor” and at San Diego Comic-Con in 2010. Thanos, on the other jewel-encrusted hand, was at the center of a supposed scoop by the Latino Review all the way back in May. Avengers Assembled The last time we checked, the movie was called “The Avengers,” and we were expecting at some point to see them all together. You know, in one shot . The closest we’ve come so far was at Comic Con, and they weren’t even in character. If Marvel really wants to make an impact with the trailer, they need to give the fans what they’ve been promising for three years: get all the heroes onscreen all at once. Everything else that will inevitably be missing from the trailer is forgivable as long as we get the big group shot. Check out everything we’ve got on “The Avengers.” For breaking news and previews of the latest comic book movies — updated around the clock — visit SplashPage.MTV.com .

‘X Factor’ Auditions Teased In New Promo

‘It’s more than just a voice. It’s something else,’ Simon Cowell says in the 8-minute promo. By James Dinh Contestant Rachel Crow appears on X-Factor Photo: Fox Promotion for the U.S. version of “X Factor” kicked into high gear on Sunday night when Fox aired a unusually lengthy eight-minute preview of their forthcoming talent competition. The preview gave viewers an early introduction to the judging panel’s insight and some potential audition favorites before the show’s splashing debut on September 21. After a montage introducing all of the panelists — Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul, L.A. Reid and Nicole Scherzinger — the TV preview offered viewers a taste of the series’ upcoming auditions. First up was the enthusiastic 13-year-old Rachel Crow, whose bubbly personality shined as bright as her voice. Upon her arrival onstage, the curly-haired student showed no signs of cold feet for what she described as “the most important thing I’ve ever done in my life.” “My family has, like, no money,” the fresh-faced auditioner told Cowell. “And let me tell you, we live in a two-bedroom house, OK? And I have six people in my family, which is a lot of people. And I’m a girl. I need my own bathroom.” After her brief chitchat with the panel, Crow tapped her foot, swayed her hands and delivered a belting rendition of Duffy’s “Mercy.” As you may have guessed, Abdul exuded just as much energy as the big-voiced Crow when she smiled and bobbed her head to the chanting tune. And it wasn’t just Abdul who enjoyed the audition, but also fellow judge L.A. Reid. “You have everything that every artist I’ve ever signed has: feisty, sassy, soulful. You got it all, baby. I love you,” he told her. Cameras soon panned to the backstage reactions from the young girl’s family, who joined together for a group hug. Crow looked in almost disbelief as she questioned her mom about the audition. “Mom, did you see that?” she asked. “X Factor” was also quick to showcase the show’s much-promoted no-age-limit rule when they moved on to the next contestant, 42-year-old single mother Stacy. The youthful-looking singer tearfully recalled the story of meeting someone who disregarded her big dreams, leaving her faith in shambles. “I don’t want to die with this music in me, Simon,” she candidly told the judge onstage, with the microphone clenched with both hands. Shots of the studio audience, who waited to hear whether or not Stacy could deliver, flashed when she began her cover of Aretha Franklin’s “(You Make Me Feel Like a) Natural Woman.” Just a few lines into the tune, Stacy was met with an overwhelming audience cheer and stunned reactions from the judges. “Let me tell you something, Stacy. I’ve done this a long, long time. That was one of the best auditions I have ever heard in my life. Loved it. Loved it. Loved it. I love you,” Cowell gushed. “X Factor” fans were met with even more eye (and ear) appeasing clips when the preview concluded with a dramatic montage and news of a two-night premiere, which airs September 21 and 22. We can also expect some high-profile guests during the show’s premiere season. Rihanna has signed up to guest-judge on an as-yet-undetermined date, according to TMZ . Lloyd Banks, Trina, More On ‘RapFix Live’ Anniversary Special!

Maino, the Outlawz also join host Sway on the red couch for one-year anniversary live stream Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET on MTV.com. By Rob Markman Lloyd Banks and Sway on “RapFix Live” in November 2010 Photo: MTV News What a year! From the ascent of Wiz Khalifa to the rise of Rick Ross’ Maybach Music empire; from Lil Wayne’s 2010 prison release to T.I.’s latest incarceration; from the tragic death of Nate Dogg to the murder of M-Bone; not to mention the release of the highly anticipated Watch the Throne and Tha Carter IV, “RapFix Live” has been the number one source of all things hip-hop. After 12 months of hard work, MTV News will celebrate on the “RapFix Live” one-year anniversary show, set to kick off Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET on MTV.com. Lloyd Banks , Maino , Trina and the Outlawz will join host Sway in taking a look back at the past year in hip-hop. In this special celebratory broadcast, “RapFix” will also relive the show’s greatest moments. Who could forget when Rick Ross graced the “RFL” couch for the very first time, or when Wiz Khalifa and Amber Rose professed their love for each other in front of our cameras? After announcing their reunion, the Diplomats appeared on “RapFix Live” in January — but without Juelz Santana. While the Dipset, covering for their boy, told us Elz had suffered an allergic reaction, we later learned that the Harlem spitter had his studio raided by police. Santana stopped by himself in June to set the record straight. Cam’ron and crew weren’t the only rap supergroup to stop by “RFL,” though. Before releasing their Bad Meets Evil EP, Royce Da 5’9″ and Eminem invited Sway out to Detroit for a special sit-down. Fans also tuned in, in record numbers, when Consequence swung through the MTV Newsroom and aired out his grievances with onetime label boss and friend Kanye West . Yes, there have been some memorable moments on “RapFix Live” and a wide range of guests, including Lil’ Kim, Nicki Minaj, Game, Diddy, Busta Rhymes, Ja Rule and J. Cole. But the exclusive interviews aren’t the only thing that fans tune in to see on “RapFix Live.” At the end of every broadcast, the show’s guest isn’t allowed to leave until he or she kicks a freestyle rhyme. Pusha T, Fat Joe, Beanie Sigel, Nicki, Reek Da Villain and Fabolous have all blessed the show with their bars. The ridiculous rhymes and the standout moments — we’re celebrating it all on Wednesday’s one-year anniversary show! Fans can also vote on their favorite “RapFix Live” freestyles and “RapFix Live” moments on our blog. Be sure to join the Twitter conversation using the hashtag #RapFixLive. Busta Rhymes ‘Honored’ To Be On Tha Carter IV

‘I was the last voice to be heard on the album,’ Busta Rhymes tells MTV News of Lil Wayne’s latest. By Rob Markman Busta Rhymes Photo: MTV News LOS ANGELES — With all of his versatility, Lil Wayne puts his range on display on Tha Carter IV . Songs like the acoustic-R&B “How to Love” and the John Legend-laced “So Special” show Weezy’s penchant for crafting female-friendly radio hits, while tracks like “6 Foot 7 Foot” and “John” revolve around Tunechi’s rap roots. The album’s “Intro,” “Interlude” and “Outro” also celebrate rapping for rapping’s sake. On the “Intro,” Wayne raps solo over a pounding, bottom-heavy beat supplied by newcomer Willy Will. Halfway through the album, Missouri MC Tech N9ne and Outkast spitter Andre 3000 appear atop the same instrumental on the C4 “Interlude.” Finally, on the LP’s “Outro,” Bun B, Nas, Shyne and Busta Rhymes take their turns over that beat. As standalone cuts, the three tracks feature some pretty aggressive rap bars, but we couldn’t help but notice that if Wayne were to string them together into one track, it might have been one of rap’s most star-studded posse cuts. “I actually close out Tha Carter IV. I’m the last voice you hear on Tha Carter IV, ” Busta Rhymes pointed out to MTV News on the 2011 VMA , black carpet. “It’s special because I didn’t know that’s what [Wayne] was gonna do with it.” With his rapid-fire verse, Busta boasts of his “uncompetewitable” rhyme style before toasting to Weezy by rhyming, “OK, enough of that, now I’m out the door/ Tunechi, thanks for giving us a whole ‘nother classic with Tha Carter IV. ” “When we did the joint, he didn’t really tell us how he was gonna put it together. All I knew was that when it was done, it was me, Bun B, Nas and Shyne, and I was the last voice to be heard on the album, so I feel honored for that,” Busta said. Although he had yet to hear the completed version of C4, Bussa Bus was excited for his friend and frequent collaborator, Wayne. “I didn’t really get to hear it in its entirety yet, but I hope that everybody understands that that man put his foot in this album,” he said. “From what I did hear, being in the studio with him, he goin’ ape sh– on it.” Share your reviews of Tha Carter IV in the comments below! Shia LaBeouf Calls Marilyn Manson Video ‘A Cool Diversion’

Unlikely duo will celebrate ‘Born Villain’ short film with book signing and screening Thursday in L.A. By Kara Warner with reporting by Josh Horowitz Marilyn Manson, Narcissister and Shia LaBeouf attend the “Born Villain” screening in Los Angeles on August 29 Photo: Christopher Polk/Getty Images File this story under the most surprising of pairings: “Transformers” superstar Shia LaBeouf and Marilyn Manson have teamed up for Manson’s new music video, “Born Villain.” So how did these two artists come together? Well, they met at a Kills concert, where LaBeouf, a longtime Manson fan, casually approached the “Beautiful People” singer and struck up a conversation that sparked a genuine friendship. “Marilyn Manson to me is an indelible figure,” LaBeouf told MTV New, speaking exclusively about the collaboration for the first time. “He’s a big deal to me, and in my childhood, I don’t know of a scarier figure in art. He, in my teenage years, was the scariest thing in the world, so part of me has always been intrigued.” LaBeouf told Manson that he would love to direct his next video and showed him his previous work, Cage’s “Maniac” clip , as proof that he knows what he’s doing behind the camera. “I played ‘Maniac’ for [Manson], and he freaked the f— out,” LaBeouf recalled. “Manson goes crazy. Manson’s like, ‘I want you to do my video.’ ” The two then began prep work on “Born Villain,” which draws heavily from very intense, graphic imagery, specifically a famous French surrealist short film, Shakespeare and theology. “The song has all these references to ‘Macbeth’ and all this Shakespeare and heavy theology, so we tried to make Manson’s ‘Un Chien Andalou’ macabre ‘Macbeth’ — that’s sort of what that became.” To celebrate the LaBeouf-directed video, which is much more short film than standard clip, LaBeouf and Manson will be appearing together at a one-time-only book signing and screening Thursday at Hennessey + Ingalls bookstore in Los Angeles from 8 to 10 p.m. The 18-and-up event is private and limited to 150 attendees on a first-come, first-served basis. In order to receive tickets, those who wish to attend must purchase the limited-edition “Born Villain” photo book at the Hennessey + Ingalls website , which also comes with a copy of the short film. Unsurprisingly, the imagery in the video is very graphic and very adult. Those who only know LaBeouf from his clean-cut film roles will likely be shocked by this directorial effort, but LaBeouf isn’t worried about those reactions. “This, for me, this is a really cool diversion for me when I’m not making a movie,” LaBeouf explained. “It gives me an opportunity to work with musicians I admire who I would otherwise never get to work with in any other capacity. I really have a fun time doing it. It allows me to be creative in another art form and work with heroes. “I also think there are fans of mine who aren’t fans of Manson’s and vice versa; that’s why I think our collaboration is interesting. I don’t really see it on paper,” he continued. “I don’t see fans of mine who went to see ‘Holes’ when they were 12 loving this. I don’t think my audience is the only thing I should exercise my artistic muscle for. I don’t necessarily always do things for the audience; this is one of those. “I love Marilyn,” LaBeouf said. “Manson is like a brother to me now. He’s a real sweet dude, a real close friend.” Related Artists Marilyn Manson

‘Dark Knight Rises’ Won’t ‘Disappoint Fanboys,’ Tom Hardy Says

His Bane is ‘not the guy in Joel Schumacher’s film,’ Hardy tells Total Film. By Terri Schwartz Tom Hardy as Bane in “The Dark Knight Rises” Photo: Warner Bros. Pictures The Man Who Broke the Bat is opening up about “The Dark Knight Rises.” Tom Hardy, who is currently filming the final installment of Christopher Nolan’s “Batman” trilogy in Pittsburgh, has been keeping mum on the subject for a while now. But in a recent interview with Total Film, the “Warrior” star opened up as much as he has to date about his role in the movie. “I think Bane’s f—ing cool so I’m really excited to play him,” Hardy told the magazine. “It’s not the guy in Joel Schumacher’s film [played by Jeep Swenson], but it shouldn’t disappoint fanboys.” Set photos and video surfaced on the Internet over the weekend, showing Hardy’s Bane in his full glory. In addition to showing off a clear look at Marion Cotillard’s Miranda Tate, the “Dark Knight Rises” pictures showed Hardy’s Bane and Christian Bale’s Batman in the middle of a heated battle that could occur at the climax of the flick. But will he be the villain to literally break Batman in “The Dark Knight Rises”? Hardy won’t tell. “All I can say is that Chris has a plan up his sleeve that’s not at all disappointing. And that is a definite choice that’s watertight in every respect,” he teased. Check out brand-new photos from the set of “Dark Knight Rises.” When MTV News caught up with Hardy at San Diego Comic-Con , he was unwilling to even talk about his opinion of the movie’s recently released trailer . After giving a convoluted answer about being a person and how nice it is to see people happy because “it’s a lot better than seeing them violent,” he finally shared his thoughts about what fans have seen of the movie so far. ” ‘Dark Knight Rises’ looks like it’s going to be an awesome, awesome movie. I saw the trailer myself, and I am very excited too,” Hardy conceded. “I should be working right now. I came to Comic-Con just to have a little look.” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Dark Knight Rises.” For breaking news and previews of the latest comic book movies — updated around the clock — visit SplashPage.MTV.com . Tom Hardy Compares His Dark Knight Rises Role to a Store at the Airport

Over the weekend at Comic-Con , Tom Hardy described his villainous role as Bane in The Dark Knight Rises thusly: “You deal with something Dark Knight — or Mad Max , or Superman or Spider-Man , whatever — it’s like going to work in an airport and going, ‘Hi I’m over here!’ and then everybody goes ‘Oh here’s that, that’s the villain of the piece.’ Then it’s a thousand people going to Duty-Free. Like, [shouting] ‘I AM THE VILLAIN !’ and make a lot of noise.” But wait, there’s more!

‘Captain America: The First Avenger’: The Reviews Are In!

Film should give ‘Harry Potter’ a run for its money this weekend. By Josh Wigler Chris Evans in “Captain America: The First Avenger” Photo: Paramount Pictures The summer of superheroes rages on this weekend with the theatrical release of “Captain America: The First Avenger.” It’s the final building block audiences need before the full picture of Joss Whedon’s “The Avengers” comes into focus this summer, and by all accounts, the movie does not disappoint. Sporting a fresh rating at review aggregate Rotten Tomatoes , both comic book fans and casual moviegoers alike are feeling the patriotic splendor that Cap has to offer, so “Harry Potter” better watch out: Steve Rogers’ mighty shield could very will split the Boy Who Lived’s wand in half this weekend! Read on for a selection of the “Cap” reviews currently rocking the Web, and check out our own “Captain America” review on Splash Page. And if the star-spangled superhero spirit moves you, give us your own reviews in the comments section below. The Story “It was a pleasure to realize, once ‘Captain America: The First Avenger’ got under way, that hey, here is a real movie, not a noisy assembly of incomprehensible special effects. Of course it’s loaded with CGI. It goes without saying it’s preposterous. But it has the texture and takes the care to be a full-blown film. You know, like with a hero we care about and who has some dimension. And with weight to the story. As we plunge ahead into a limitless future of comic-book movies, let this be an inspiration rather than Thor or Green Lantern. ” — Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times The Hero “As the titular comic book character, Chris Evans has an appealing, earnest quality, whether he’s playing the digitally enhanced (reduced?) scrawny Steve Rogers or the well-muscled super-soldier dubbed Captain America. Evans provides just the right human anchor to the flash and dazzle of director Joe Johnston’s production. The movie wouldn’t work without Evans’ likability and the sense of integrity he projects, as well as his all-American good looks.” — Claudia Puig, USA Today The Villain “Then there’s Hugo Weaving as Captain America’s nemesis, Red Skull — a role that requires delivering a genuine performance from behind grotesque crimson prosthetics, which Weaving accomplishes with admirable dexterity. In fact, everyone hits their marks with energy and finesse in ‘Captain America,’ which with its clean, Art Deco lines and sprightly spirit exemplifies why comic book movies are such reliable fodder for Hollywood. They come pre-storyboarded, after all; their gadgets, dinguses and doo-dads are a production artist’s dream, just as those tights, capes and masks must provide fetishistic frissons for the most on-trend costume designer.” — Ann Hornaday, The Washington Post The Action “A chase and shoot-out in a ‘Dick Tracy’ version of New York is one of the most thrilling scenes of the summer movie season, yet this generous film keeps the popcorn popping for two full hours. It’s got musical numbers, as Rogers is costumed as Captain America and sent on a war-bonds tour; it’s got a prison break, as the touring celebrity frees some multicultural P.O.W.s from the Nazis, and it’s got a mythic smackdown, as Captain America squares off against Germanic evil genius Johann Schmidt (the hugely entertaining Hugo Weaving, mimicking documentarian Werner Herzog).” — Joe Williams, St. Louis Post-Dispatch The Setting “Though it begins and ends with a scene or two in the present, as directed by Joe Johnston from a screenplay by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, ‘Captain America’ is first and foremost an origins story. Almost half of the film’s running time elapses before Rogers gets any kind of power at all, and though its elements are awfully familiar, it’s the most involving part of the film because it takes advantage of Evans’ performance. These early-days sections are so old-fashioned that, if you take away the copious special effects, watching ‘Captain America’ feels akin to watching the venerable 1950s television version of ‘Superman’ starring George Reeves. Buttons are pushed, dials are turned, secret passwords are uttered and lights blink, just like they did way back when.” — Kenneth Turan, Los Angeles Times Check out everything we’ve got on “Captain America: The First Avenger.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . Pippa Middleton and Alex Loudon: Spotted at Wimbledon!

While her sister is featured on the latest Newsweek cover walking alongside Princess Diana, Pippa Middleton is making headlines for some strolling of her own this week. Despite rumors of a split, and even more ridiculous rumors that she’s close with Prince Harry , Pippa attended Wimbledon with long-time boyfriend Alex Loudon yesterday. She looked as cute, and as happy, as ever: Inside the stadium of the tennis tournament, witnesses say the pair exchanged smiles and talked closely as they watched the matches alongside Pippa’s parents, Carole and Michael Middleton. Early last Friday morning, Pippa was also snapped leaving Loudon’s London apartment. You know what that means, right? We officially hate Loudon even more than we hate Shia LeBeouf .
