Meet the Boss Ladies Behind the First Ever ComplexCon Chicago and ComplexCon Community Week

Read the original here:

Source: Complex / Complex Since its inception three-years ago, Complex Network’s annual ComplexCon has become a leading celebration of our culture and our community. Spearheaded in Long Beach, California, ComplexCon is Complex’s “world fair of youth culture” and is known for bringing thousands of sneaker heads, change makers, community leaders, artists, fashion gurus, entertainers and celebrities together for two-days of music, art, discussion, entertainment and culture. Now, the annual festival is making its way across the country for the first time ever and introducing the Windy City (and the nation) to ComplexCon Chicago in what appears to be the network’s biggest event yet. Executive Producer Isis Arias Clermont promises that the inaugural ComplexCon Chicago will be unlike any other. “It’s different than traditional festivals that are more focused on music and art,” Clermont explained. “It’s really bringing the ‘URL to IRL’. The experience includes retail and shopping opportunities with cool brands, music performances (which are the energetic part of the show) and Complex Current which is a format of our panels and fireside chats with talent that speak to different topics that our audience is interested in.” One of the ways Chicago will differ from Long Beach is through the introduction of the first ever ComplexCon Community Week which is a weeklong series of community driven events meant to provide resources to cities (like Chicago) that birthed Complex Culture. Led by Complex’s Director of Community Outreach, Nicole Russell , ComplexCon Community Week will kick off on Monday, July 15th and conclude on Friday, July 19 th , right before ComplexCon officially begins. “It was really important to use this platform to inspire the people watching us to do more for the community – not just in the spaces where ComplexCon will be hosted but in their own,” Russell said. “We’re really trying to make sure we’re bringing awareness to different organizations but also showing everyone that’s tuning in how they can get involved and stand up for the causes that matter to them.” ComplexCon Community Week will consist of a variety of events such as a Soup Kitchen Takeover in partnership with Jaden Smith, a STREETWEAR.EDU panel discussion hosted by Trinidad James and a small Chicago-style block party for A Night Out Against Gun Violence, an event that Russell believes will help shine a light on some of the initiatives that the Chicago based Save Money, Save Life Foundation already supports. “It’s really just about bringing awareness to the people that are here [in Chicago] and showing them how they can show up and support one another,” Russell explained. “I think when you’re looking at the news and you’re seeing all of these things happening, all these challenges in your own community, everyone wants to know how they can help and what can they do. Not everyone has those tools to just fix, or not everyone knows what to do to inspire the change. We wanted to use this platform at Community Week to provide that information.” As Community Week kicks off and ComplexCon Chicago grows closer, Clermont and Russell appear to be tackling everything with ease. These ladies are leading the charge on one of the biggest events for our culture in a male dominated industry– and are killing it. “I think this has been an incredible opportunity,” Clermont said. “Everything comes with its own challenges and I think for us to be in the positions that we’re in, have the ability to have a voice in the room and really help lead these things has been great.” In spite of the challenges that come with pulling off any successful event, the ladies both agree that working with such an amazing female-led ComplexCon team has been quite rewarding and inspiring. “It’s really cool to be on such a dynamic team of fearless women,” Russell said. “There’s a lot of pressure, especially in a new role where were creative something for the very first time, but there’s support here. And its support coming from other women, which is great. So, it makes my job easier.” With three successful ComplexCons already in the books, introducing the annual culture staple to the city of Chicago is right on time, as Clermont believes that Chicago’s culture is exactly what embodies the Complex brand. “We definitely feel that Chicago is a city that’s culturally important to us. They have a strong audience that is interested in the things that we’re putting together such as hip-hop, streetwear and sneaker culture.” Clermont also assured us that Chi-Town is definitely in for a treat this weekend as the ComplexCon Chicago team has a ton of surprises up their sleeves for the first ever event. “We’ve got a lot of surprises on the ground,” Clermont said. “It’s one of those things that you just have to be there for. You never know who you’ll run into on the floor.” For more on ComplexCon Community Week and ComplexCon Chicago, visit: https://www.complexcon.com/

Jenelle Evans: Did an Animal Rights Group Just Steal Her Business Website?

Jenelle Evans is not very popular these days. Come to think of it, Jenelle has never been very popular, but she's been even more reviled than ever in recent weeks. As you've likely heard by now Evans got fired from Teen Mom 2 and lost custody of her children last month.  Basically, Jenelle's life unraveled with astonishing speed, and it all started when her husband, David Eason, shot and killed the family dog . Yes, the man really executed an 11-pound French bulldog named Nugget during one of his infamous fits of rage. He and Jenelle have already paid a hefty price for that appalling act, but as they're about to learn, there are lots of animal lovers and David haters on the internet — and the #JusticeForNugget campaign for has only just begun. Take a look: 1. A New Low Jenelle was never the most responsible pet owner, but even longtime TM2 viewers — most of whom are painfully familiar with her selfishness and irresponsibility — may have found themselves in shock when she decided to stay with David after he executed Nugget while her children were at home. 2. The Absolute Worst At first, the details seemed too shocking to believe — David dragged the small dog outside and killed him with a shotgun while his horrified children cowered in terror. 3. Lifelong Trauma Jenelle later revealed that 11-year-old Maryssa hid in her room and didn’t emerge until the next day. 4. No Lessons Learned Apparently unaware that animal abuse is not great for one’s public image, Jenelle has taken to posting “homesteading” videos that show David — you guessed it! — manhandling and mistreating all sorts of frightened animals. 5. What a Guy At one point, David shoves a piglet into Nugget’s face. Yes, the same Nugget who was apparently so vicious he needed to be violently put down. 6. The Land of Violence We know that the videos are old, not only because Nugget is still alive when they were filmed, but because there were still children living with Jenelle and David at the time. Stop The Violence: Kid Gives Tearful Plea After 13-Year-Old Friend Malik Tyler Is Killed In Dallas Crossfire [Video]

Source: Getty Kid Pleads Dallas To Stop The Violence After 13-Year-Old Malik Tyler Is Killed In Crossfire Senseless violence caused the death of a 13-year-old in Dallas and now video capturing the family’s grievance is packing a heartbreaking punch. According to Dallas News , middle schooler Malik Tyler was killed on Tuesday evening as he and two friends left a gas station in the 9400 block of Bruton Road, at North St. Augustine Drive. Tyler was only an innocent bystander caught in the crossfire of a moving vehicle shooting at another car. On Wednesday, officers said they arrested Datrail Deon Clayton, 21, as a suspect and he now faces a murder charge in the shooting. The corner where Tyler was shot has been problematic for years, making local residents and employees frustrated for the narcotic sales and gang violence that plagues the intersection. At a vigil on Wednesday, residents called for the city to shut down both the convenience store that adjoined the gas station and a car wash next door in honor of Tyler. “Do it for the kids,” someone said. Tyler’s vigil raised a lot of awareness to the surging violence in Dallas recently. According to Dallas News , last month alone had 41 homicides, the city’s highest monthly tally since the 1990s. Tyler’s mom, Tina Tyler, expressed her pain: “I don’t know what to say. Someone took my son from me.” A major heartbreaking moment occurred at the vigil when Malik’s friend MaQuesta Martin Jr. made a plea to stop the violence in the community. While remembering Malik, MaQuesta tearfully explained: “When I wanted to run away, he was there with me. When I was feeling down he was there with me. So pray for his family.” He continued: “I just want to say I love everybody. Can y’all just shut it down? Please stop the violence. There’s too many people getting hurt in Dallas. Just stop it. Love each other. Please!” Tyler’s mom added to the call for action, saying: “I hope that this goes nationwide, worldwide…that we do something to help our Black kids in this community. Because gun violence. Look at what happened. My son died here yesterday. This has been a great loss to my family. That was my youngest son.” You can watch Tina Tyler and MaQuesta’s emotional words below, and we hope that they reached all the right people.

David Eason May Have Killed His Wife’s Dog

David Eason is in trouble with the law and, it very strongly seem, is also in trouble with Jenelle Evans. Neither of these statements ought to come as a shock, we know. But the reason why David Eason is in trouble with both of these parties may be at least a tad surprising, even to those who constantly expect the worst from this ex-Teen Mom star: He's been accused of trying to kill his wife's dog. We're not kidding or exaggerating. Do we have your attention now? Okay, good. Scroll down for all the totally insane details… 1. Let’s Just Delve Right In, Shall We? By now, you must know the history of Eason and Evans and their romance, right? 2. They’re Up, They’re Down, They’re Assaulting One Another Well, Eason is assaulting Jenelle at least. He was accused of doing so in October of 2018. 3. So, Really, We Shouldn’t Be Surprised by Any Kind of Violence by Him No, we shouldn’t. And yet… this new report took us aback. Like, WAY aback. 4. David Eason Shoots Stuff According to a Radar Online report, a man called the Columbus County Sheriff’s department on Tuesday, April 30. This man has not yet been identified. 5. The Source Here Seems Reliable “A call was made today, and it was relayed that the woman’s husband had killed her dog,” the Sheriff’s Department told Radar. “The Sheriff is out there right now investigating and there will be an incident report filed later.” 6. Did Evans Make the Call? No. Radar simply insists that it was placed by a “male.” This is all we know at the moment. View Slideshow
