Avicii and Rita Ora release a free-spirited music video for their new collaboration, ‘Lonely Together,’ which basically takes the viral mannequin challenge to a whole new extreme.
Remember the selfie of the Florida Hurricane Irma first responders who went viral because of their good looks? According to The Gainesville Sun , one of them has questionable thoughts when it comes to diversity and inclusion. Officer Michael Hamill, one of the viral ‘Hot Cops,’ is being dragged for allegedly making anti-Semitic posts, inc… https://t.co/QrbF09Agf7 — Luca Forzin (@Luca_Forzin) September 15, 2017 Officer Michael Hamill is now being outed for several Facebook posts where he made anti-semitic remarks and called for the “Hitler method” in dealing with people who take advantage of government resources. The Gainesville Police Department is reportedly reviewing a complaint against Hamill, but will not disclose details until the investigation is completed. The outlet also reports that they received screenshots of several troubling messages. Meet Officer Michael Hamill of the Gainesville PD. pic.twitter.com/rPGSWM8DSq — Julian® (@sixxis311) September 15, 2017 In one post from April 2013 Hamill wrote: “ Who knew that reading jewish jokes before I go to bed would not only make me feel better about myself but also help me to sleep better as well. Here is one for everybody, “What’s the difference between boy scouts and jews?” Anybody know? Well it is because “Boy scouts come back from their camps.” After a critic responded to Hill’s post calling it “messed up,” Hamill replied, “u don’t like it? don’t read it then.” A second post from 2011 says, “so I find it funny that people will talk about how our government needs to do something about our economy and in reality it’s YOU who needs to stop taking advantage of our system and get a life and do something with your life. Gotta love reality when it hits you in the face. Stupid people annoy me. Put them in an oven and deal with them the Hitler way. Haha.” The Gainesville Police Department received thousands of likes and replies after the photo of Hamill and his colleagues was posted on social media earlier this week. W ith the powerful winds of Hurricane Irma approaching Florida, some airlines are hiking ticket prices well beyond the budget of many seeking to escape the destructive storm, CBS News reports. The outlet interviewed a Vermont man, Steve McQueen , who said he spent $1,725 to fly his 87-year-old mother from Fort Myers, Florida to Charlotte, North Carolina on Thursday. He told CBS that he understands what happens with last minute ticket purchases but called the price “ghastly.” Delta Airlines was publicly shamed when a prospective customer tweeted a price change from $547.50 to $3,258.50 found on Expedia.com, NBC News reported. Since that post went viral, others reported United Airlines and American Airlines for similar price hikes. Shame on you @delta . Jacking from $547 to over $3200 for people trying to evacute responsibly? #IrmaHurricane pic.twitter.com/O2nfPHQUAh — Leigh (@LeighDow) September 5, 2017 According to CBS, price gouging related to emergencies is illegal in Florida. That rule applies to hotels, gas stations and grocery stores–but not airlines. The federal government is responsible for regulating the airline industry. Exorbitant pricing complicates evacuation arrangements for students like Antonio Mercurius , an African American studies and health science major at the University of Miami. Mercurius told the Miami Herald he felt “lucky” to have purchased his flight to the District of Columbia on Monday, before the hikes. The co-founder of the student poetry collective Speak How You Feel told reporters he was concerned about the safety of others who can’t afford the increased prices: “Why is there no emergency evacuation cost? I understand supply and demand but the laws of capitalism should not operate in the times of catastrophic danger. What happens to the people that can’t afford flights now?” After public outrage over the “laws of capitalism,” some airlines began to change their tunes and prices. JetBlue set a $99 cap for direct flights out of Florida. American Airlines set a similar cap for outgoing flights. A spokesperson for Delta Airlines announced that it would adjust prices for last-minute flights, waive change fees, and accommodate more passengers with larger planes. Joel Osteen remains a liar and a hypocrite. But at least he’s a liar and a hypocrite who cares about public perception. The celebrity pastor and author came under major fire over the weekend after he initially claimed his mammoth Lakewood Church in Houston was inaccessible due to flooding from Hurricane Harvey. The facility can hold up to 17,000 people and there are many more than 17,000 people who need shelter after this natural disaster dumped over 40 inches of rain on the city on Saturday and Sunday. Shortly after Osteen’s church made this statement, photos appeared on social media that debunked the claim. Multiple onlookers wrote that the Church was readily available for use… while hordes of Internet users expressed shock that someone who owns such a large building would not open it up to a desperate public. Especially someone who claims to follow the teachings of Jesus Christ. “We have never closed our doors,” Osteen said in a statement on Monday, adding at the time: “We will continue to be a distribution center to those in need. We are prepared to house people once shelters reach capacity. “Lakewood will be a value to the community in the aftermath of this storm.” Most people saw this as a fairly ridiculous stance to take, however. Why equivocate? Why mention anything about shelters being over “capacity?” Why not immediately open your doors and try to help as many locals as possible, Mr. Multi-Millionaire Preacher? After facing a great deal of backlash and trending on Google for the wrong reason, Osteen finally caved. “Lakewood’s doors are open and we are receiving anyone who needs shelter,” he Tweeted on Tuesday afternoon. A Lakewood Church spokesperson told ABC News, meanwhile, that its doors have always been open. This individual says the church is waiting for city officials to designate it as am official shelter so it can obtain cots and receive other forms of assistance. According to updated reports, meanwhile, five school buses filled with evacuees, toting their belongings in plastic garbage bags, have arrived at the church. Hurricane Harvey ripped through the Houston area last weekend. It has forced mass evacuations, wiped out homes and at least seven people have died. The National Weather Service has deemed the flooding “epic and catastrophic,” while Texas Governor Greg Abbot said the aftermath of Harvey will probably be “horrific” and leave behind a mess that will “take years” to rebuild. In response, celebrities have come together and donated millions of disaster relief charities. In times such as this, when the President is bragging about the “turnout” he’s received in Texas, and when pastors need to be pressured by Twitter to open their church, it is helpful to remember: Not everyone sucks. Some people are actuall ypretty awesome.
Mark Zuckerberg is something of a divisive figure these days. Sure, he founded a service that most of us use every day, and he says he’s committed to making the world a better place, but at the same time, there are many who believe he’s more responsible than anyone else for the proliferation of “fake news” that loomed so large over the 2016 election. Plus, we’re sick of getting notifications every time someone on our friends list “goes live” to show off their new haircut, ya know. Anyway, the Zuck seems like an okay guy who’s probably a bit over his head as chief of arguably the world’s most important media outlet, but that’s a conversation for another time. Today, all we have to say to Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan is, congratulations on bringing another billionaire baby into the world! Yes, Zuckerberg announced yesterday on Facebook (natch) that he and wife Priscilla Chan had welcomed a baby girl named August. She’s the second child for the couple, who welcomed daughter Max in 2015. As he did when Max was born, Zuckerberg penned a moving open letter to his baby girl: “Welcome to the world! Your mom and I are so excited to see who you will become,” he began. Zuckerberg then referenced the viral letter that he wrote to Max, before revealing that he’d like to take a slightly different tone this time around. “When your sister was born, we wrote a letter about the world we hoped she and now you will grow up in — a world with better education, fewer diseases, stronger communities, and greater equality … We’re optimists about your generation and the future,” the billionaire CEO wrote. Zuckerberg concludes with an ode to the magic of child that’s sure to bring a tear to any parent’s eye: “You will be busy when you’re older, so I hope you take time to smell all the flowers and put all the leaves you want in your bucket now. I hope you read your favorite Dr. Seuss books so many times you start inventing your own stories about the Vipper of Vipp. “I hope you ride the carousel with Max until you’ve tamed every color horse. I hope you run as many laps around our living room and yard as you want. “And then I hope you take a lot of naps. I hope you’re a great sleeper. And I hope even in your dreams you can feel how much we love you. “Childhood is magical. You only get to be a child once, so don’t spend it worrying too much about the future. You’ve got us for that, and we’ll do everything we possibly can to make sure the world is a better place for you and all children in your generation. “August, we love you so much and we’re so excited to go on this adventure with you. We wish you a life of joy, love and the same hope you give us.” Not only is it a powerful message of love from a devoted parent, it’s also a potent reminder that not every Facebook post has to be about politics, people, damn! We hope Mayweather and McGregor fight again just so we can have another one hour break from Trump talk in our timeline. Make it happen, you two! It’s a step toward redeeming yourselves for lifetimes of douche-baggery. Oh, and, um … congratulations to Mark and Priscilla. Sorry, we got a little sidetracked there. Taylor Swift does not do subtlety. Three days after releasing her much-lampooned new single , “Look What You Made Me Do,” the global superstar unveiled her music video for the track early on at the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards. And the footage took aim at the paparazzi, at Kim Kardashian and Kanye West… and even at herself. The video opened with a gravestone that reads “Here Lies Taylor Swift’s Reputation.” The last word there, of course, is the name of Swift’s upcoming studio album , which drops on November 10. It’s also a reference to the way Swift has seen her name dragged through the mud for just over a year now, ever since Kim and Kanye exposed her as somewhat of a phony last summer. (In July of 2016, Kardashian played a phone call to the world in which Swift gave her husband permission to include a negative lyric about Taylor in his song “Famous,” despite Swift having previously claimed foul when the track went viral.) Swift then dances around a cemetery while dressed like a zombie, prior to miming the shooting of a gun in a bathtub, draped in diamond. From there, we see Taylor sitting on a throne, drinking tea (clearly trolling the trolls) and ignoring the snakes slithering all around her. (Reminder: Kardashian referred to Swift as a snake after igniting their aforementioned feud last year.) Cut to Swift in a car accident, the paparazzi snapping photos all around here as she sort of writhes in pain… yet stares at a Grammy Award while doing so. (Translation: Oh yeah? You think my career is a trainwreck and you want to throw a Taylor Swift is over party ? I’ll just be over here, admiring my Grammys… ) Later on, Swift swings on a swing in a giant birdcage… joins some kind of motorcycle gang… swings a baseball bat in anger (undoubtedly creating more Beyhive backlash )… dons a dominatrix outfit… and dances around with guys in I Heart TS shirts. (During July Fourth weekend in 2016, Swift and then-boyfriend Tom Hiddleston received tons of crap when the latter was seen wearing a shirt with this same message on it.) But the end of the video is when Swift truly comes clean. It’s where she lets EVERYthing out. Various versions of the singer stand in front of a private jet with the word “REPUTATION” on it and engage in a conversation. “Stop acting like you are all nice, you are so fake,” one Taylor says to another Taylor, referencing the biggest criticism most haters have of Swift. We then see Swift very clearly mocking Kardashian as she sends out the infamous Snapchat video from last summer, with Swift uttering the line she wrote on Instagram in response to the scandal last year. I’d very much like to be excluded from this narrative. On the whole, there’s A LOT to unpack here. Is Swift copying Beyonce at certain parts? Is she being too direct in responding to critics? Is she playing the annoying victim once again? Or is this prime and perfect Taylor Swift in all her vindictive glory? Watch the full video below and then respond! TMZ caught up with the comedian and actor, who had a front-and-center view of Floyd Mayweather ‘s training session on Thursday. The boxer is gearing up to face McGregor in one of the most anticipated fights of the year. “He’s going to send Connor McGregor back to Ireland,” Rapaport said. Rapaport further said that he doesn’t mess with McGregor, calling him “obnoxious.” “He calls himself the Notorious Connor McGregor which is stolen from The Notorious B.I.G ,” Rapaport said. “He loves hip hop, he steals all of Floyd’s style all the gold and all the fur, but you still calling Black people ‘boy,’ get the f*ck out of here!” The comedian then goes on to say that he saw Demi Lovato at Floyd’s training session and he didn’t understand why she was there. “She looked unimpressed and if I was Demi Lovato I would be impressed with what you were seeing,” Rapaport said. Demi is set to sing the National Anthem before the big fight on Saturday. Maybe she was there for inspiration? You can watch Rapaport get hype for the rumble here .
