Pitbull Invites Lindsay Lohan To The VMAs

As Lohan sues him over the lyrics to ‘Give Me Everything,’ the rapper extends an olive branch. By James Montgomery Pitbull Photo: Michael Loccisano/Getty Images Pitbull and Lindsay Lohan may currently be at odds over the lyrics of “Give Me Everything,” but the rapper has extended an olive branch to the oft-troubled actress … in the form of an invitation to this Sunday’s . That’s what Mr. 305 said in a statement posted Thursday (August 25) on his Planet Pit website , in which he addressed the lawsuit Lohan filed last week that alleges the lyrics of his hit — in particular, the line “I got it locked up like Lindsay Lohan” — are “destined to do irreparable harm” to the actress’ career. Pit want it known that he hopes the two sides can hash out their differences at the VMAs. “We’ll be performing [‘Give Me Everything] at the VMAs , and, as a matter of fact, I’d like to send out an invitation to Lindsay Lohan,” Pitbull said. “Hopefully she can come with me to the VMAs, and we can figure this out.” Pitbull also said he was “very surprised” when he first learned of the lawsuit, especially since he considers “Give Me Everything” — and his mention of Lohan — to be positive. “It was very ironic, to be honest with you. At first I read it and I was like, ‘Nah, this has got to be a joke,’ [but] come to find out it’s very realistic,” he said. “Me being someone who supports Lindsay Lohan’s career, where I’ve seen her go through everything she’s gone through, and everything that has to do with this record is so positive — you see the way I start off the record, where I say, ‘I took my life from negative to positive/ I just want y’all to know that’ — when I mention Lindsay Lohan in the record, it was really a positive message. “[The lyric] is ‘Hustlers move in silence, so I’m tip-toeing/ So keep blowing, got it locked up like Lindsay Lohan,’ ” Pitbull continued. “When I say I got it locked up, if you’re from the neighborhood, when they say, ‘You got it locked up’ that means you run that area.” And as far as Lohan’s claims that the song has caused her — and her career — irreparable harm, Pitbull said that he never intended to hurt anybody … quite the opposite, in fact. “In no way, shape or form would I want to bring that on anybody. I didn’t look to defame, degrade or hurt someone’s career,” he said. “For me, mentioning it on a number one record around the world, I thought it would be helping someone’s career, and keeping them relevant. We mention people’s names all the time; when it comes to rapping, it’s always about double meanings and metaphors and how you flip certain things.” Pitbull added that he’s not sure what the next step in the legal process would be (“That has to come with the attorneys,” he said). But who knows? Perhaps things will be patched up after Sunday’s VMAs. “It shows that success comes with a whole lot,” Pit said. “And I always say, as hard as you work to succeed in this music business, there’s four or five people working harder to take it all away from you.” The 28th annual MTV Video Music Awards will air live Sunday, August 28, from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles at 9 p.m. ET/PT, following the Selena Gomez-hosted pre-show at 8. Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter IV Drops At Midnight After VMAs

Weezy’s VMA performance and nominations lead up to the long-awaited release on Sunday night. By Alvin Blanco Lil Wayne Photo: Clinton Gilders/ FilmMagic Lil Wayne is going to dabble in a little midnight madness. Already scheduled to perform at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday, Weezy has just announced that he’ll also be dropping his highly anticipated new album, Tha Carter IV, at midnight, right after the show. “I am extremely excited to be the first artist to utilize such an amazing idea. I hope that I can open the door for others,” Lil Wayne said in a press statement. The YMCMB rapper’s latest will be released digitally via iTunes, Amazon and other legal MP3 download destinations at 12 a.m. on August 29. Those still dedicated to physical CDs need not worry since the album will be in retail stores later that Monday. The release of Tha Carter IV will be the capstone to a big night for Weezy, who is also up for Moonmen in the Best Hip-Hop Video and Best Collaboration categories. And despite Wayne’s skateboarding accident over the weekend (he tweeted that he needed nine stitches for a gash over his eye), he is sure to take the Nokia Theatre stage by storm this week. “The MTV Video Music Awards are one of the most watched and respected shows in the industry,” Ronald “Slim” Williams, CEO of Cash Money Records, said in a statement. “Wayne is one of the most respected and prolific artists in the industry. By pairing the release of Tha Carter IV with the VMAs, it will certainly add to the overall anticipation and excitement for fans everywhere for what will surely be an unforgettable evening.” With Jay-Z and Kanye West throwing a wrench into traditional album-release strategies with their Watch the Throne project, Lil Wayne has chosen to make his own release an event by coinciding with another. “Lil Wayne continues to change the game; this time with a new release strategy that demonstrates the power of the VMAs to grab the attention of music fans,” MTV President Stephen Friedman said. “After our millions of viewers experience the VMAs, they can go online at midnight and download the album they’ve all been waiting for.” Tha Carter IV ‘s latest single is “She Will” and will feature appearances from, T-Pain, Tech N9ne, Rick Ross, John Legend, Jadakiss, Nas and Busta Rhymes, among others. The 28th annual MTV Video Music Awards will air live Sunday, August 28, from Los Angeles at 9 p.m. ET/PT, following the Selena Gomez-hosted pre-show at 8. Justin Bieber Says ‘Girlfriends Are Trouble’

Pop star admits he doesn’t have much time for dating right now. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Tim Kash Justin Bieber at the VMAs on Sunday Photo: Rachel Goldner/ MTV News Now that Justin Bieber properly took over the VMAs , lined up a bunch of projects and even announced the release date for his forthcoming 3-D movie , one might think he would want to find that special someone to share his days with. But just moments after winning his Best New Artist VMA on Sunday, the 16-year-old megastar explained that he’s too busy for love right now. “I mean, girlfriends are trouble at this age,” he explained to MTV News. “Girls are fun to hang out with but, like, having that one steady girl … we’re constantly traveling and one girl’s not gonna really [work]. You can’t really have one girl. I don’t really have any crushes at the moment.” With so much going on in his life, the “U Smile” singer is just trying to balance his career and personal life. “Right now, the best thing is [that we’re] just teenagers having fun doing what we love,” he explained. “We’re just staying ourselves and remaining humble.” With his “Never Say Never” collaborator Jaden Smith by his side, Bieber revealed that he and the Smith family may work together again in the future, with Bieber possibly working with Will Smith on his next project. However, Bieber kept the details sparse, saying, “We’re trying to figure something out.” In addition to trying to re-team with pal Jaden and family, Bieber said that for his next album, he wants to work with his friend and fellow Canadian Drake. “[It’ll] probably [come out] fourth quarter next year,” he said. “Drake is gonna be on that album. I’m not sure [who else]. I’m gonna ask him if he can get [Lil] Wayne on there.” The Moonmen have all been handed out and the stars have gone home, but there’s plenty of 2010 MTV Video Music Awards news, interviews, behind-the-scenes scoop, party reports and more still to come, so keep it locked on MTVNews.com. VMAs In 60 Seconds: Meaty Togs And Soulful Songs

We sum up the night, from Lady Gaga’s outfits to Taylor Swift’s ‘innocent’ track, in a minute. By Josh Wigler and Jim Cantiello Eminem and Rihanna perform at the 2010 VMAs on Sunday Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images Between fits of laughter and streams of tears, shiny Moonmen and meat dresses aplenty, the 2010 MTV Music Video Awards were not to be missed. Sunday’s award ceremony was jam-packed with memorable moments that caught even the most casual viewer off guard, and while summarizing the entire show in 60 seconds might seem like an impossible feat, the MTV News team is always up for a challenge! Although the purpose of the evening was to celebrate and honor the greatest musical achievements of the year, some of the show’s performers couldn’t stop themselves from embracing their sadder sides, with melancholy tunes coming from the likes of Linkin Park , Taylor Swift and even Eminem . In fact, it was Slim Shady himself that kicked off the VMAs with his opening performance of “Not Afraid,” which he followed up with a brief rendition of domestic violence-themed “Love the Way You Lie” alongside surprise special guest Rihanna. (Well, gossip sites pretty much ruined that surprise for everyone but Jane Lynch, actually.) It wasn’t all doom and gloom, though. Host Chelsea Handler broke the tension on more than one occasion, with fake pregnancies and awkward encounters with Lindsay Lohan among her many highlights. Justin Bieber tore up the dance floor with some similarly sized pals, while his mentor, Usher, literally wheeled around through “DJ Got Us Fallin’ in Love” and “OMG.” With 13 nominations to her name, Lady Gaga easily went on to be the big winner of the night, walking away with a walloping eight awards. But even she wasn’t immune to the charms of celebrity culture, as she found herself awed by the mere presence of Cher. “I never thought I’d ask Cher to hold my meat purse,” Gaga proudly exclaimed. We always suspected you would, though, Gaga. While the night focused mainly on the musical highlights of the past year, there was no side-stepping the VMAs of yesteryear — after all, how could Taylor Swift and Kanye West possibly ignore each other entirely after last year’s awkward encounter? The singer-songwriter offered what could be perceived as a thinly veiled message of forgiveness toward West in her new song that states: “32 is still growing up now/ Who you are is not what you did/ You’re still an innocent.” Indeed, the VMAs came full circle as Kanye closed out the night with his performance of “Runaway,” proposing a musical toast to “the douche bags, the a–holes” and “the scumbags.” If Swift forgave West earlier in the evening, a similar olive branch was offered again as the audience continuously cheered Kanye’s name, signaling the end of yet another successful round of Video Music Awards. The Moonmen have all been handed out and the stars have gone home, but there’s plenty of 2010 MTV Video Music Awards news, interviews, behind-the-scenes scoop, party reports and more still to come, so keep it locked on MTVNews.com. Lady Gaga Talks VMA Meat Suit With Ellen DeGeneres

‘I am the most judgment-free human being on the earth,’ singer tells vegan talk-show host. By Gil Kaufman Lady Gaga at the 2010 VMAs Photo: Kevin Mazur/ Getty Images Last year, Lady Gaga made her VMA debut drenched in blood. But on Sunday night, picking up her eighth award of the evening, for Video of the Year, Gaga took the stage in an equally gory getup, reprising the controversial “meat suit” she wore on the cover of Vogue Hommes Japan that drew fire from PETA. While the suit Gaga modeled at the show didn’t appear to contain any real cuts of meat (it was accessorized by meat boots, a meat hat and a meat purse she briefly handed to Cher while accepting the Moonman), the singer still felt it was necessary to explain her sartorial choice in order to clear up any controversy.

Eminem’s ‘Not Afraid’ Takes Best Hip Hop Video

After performing, Slim Shady jetted to New York to continue tour. By Rochell D. Thomas Eminem performs during the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards Photo: Kevin Mazur/EM/WireImage When MTV’s 2010 Video Music Award nominations were announced last month and Eminem earned eight , he was not pleased, complaining that the September 12 scheduling of the awards ceremony scratched the quickly spinning record that is his tour schedule. “Apparently, MTV doesn’t care that I have two massive stadium shows on the other side of the country the day after the VMAs,” he said. “F me, right?” Well, we wouldn’t exactly say that. Not that it matters. Apparently, Slim Shady could only spare enough time to open the VMAs. After his medley performance of “Not Afraid” and “Love the Way You Lie” (for which Rihanna joined him onstage), he jetted, literally — leaving the Nokia Theater to catch a red-eye flight back to New York for his Monday-night gigs. Guess he didn’t think he’d win. Which he did. Marshall Mathers’ clip for “Not Afraid” beat both rap royalty and newcomers to take the Best Hip Hop Video award. His competition: “Airplanes” by B.o.B (featuring Hayley Williams), Jay-Z and Swizz Beatz’ “On to the Next One,” Kid Cudi’s “Pursuit of Happiness” and the mega video that was expected to take this category’s cake — the Hype Williams-directed “Forever,” featuring Drake, Kanye West, Lil Wayne and Eminem, himself. Since Em had left the building, Modern Family star Sofia Vergara, who presented the award, accepted on his behalf. “I’m going to take it to Columbia,” she joked. MTV VMAs Set To Roll Out White Carpet: Catch A Sneak Peek!

‘The theme this year for our carpet is ‘Hollywood Mansion,’ ‘ reveals VMA pre-show executive producer Ryan Kroft. By Kara Warner, with reporting by Tim Kash The VMA white carpet step and repeat wall on Thursday Photo: Rachel Goldner/ MTV News As part of our efforts to bring everyone as far behind-the-scenes as possible in the lead-up to the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards , MTV News correspondent Tim Kash recently took a tour of the under-construction, soon-to-be-star-studded white carpet. Kash was led by MTV’s VMA pre-show executive producer Ryan Kroft. “The theme this year for our red carpet is ‘Hollywood Mansion,’ ” Kroft explained, pointing out key stopping points for celebrities and show crews on what has been designated as the press line. Kroft explained that the wall built for this year’s step-and-repeat (the area where celebs stop to be photographed) will be extra high. “They’re normally 10-feet-high, but this year it’s going to be 21-feet-high,” he said. “We do it big. It’s going to look like this wall of this mansion we’re creating. “When the carpet opens, it’s going to be pure white,” Kroft continued. “White set, black accents, gorgeous.” Eagle-eyed MTV awards show fans probably know that this isn’t the first time the network has gone with a gleaming white rug for the VMAs. In 2005, the show made a return trip to Miami and the production crew once gain began mulling over the idea of an all-white carpet. While they had only considered the possibility a year earlier at the 2004 ceremony — also at Miami’s American Airlines Arena — they didn’t follow through until host Sean “Diddy” Combs encouraged it with a spontaneous declaration at a press conference. So as Diddy turned the carpet from red to white, the biggest challenge was keeping the carpet dry after hurricane Katrina, then only a category 1 storm, had swept through. Which brings up an important question, how in the heck do you keep a white carpet clean with hundreds of people stomping across it? According to Staging Supervisor Aaron Chawla, the trick is to keep it covered in plastic for as long as possible before showtime — and having vacuums and steam cleaners on site for any sudden spills or stains. For those who won’t make it to L.A. to see it up-close, MTV News is giving away 10 pieces of our specially made white carpet. Visit the MTV News Facebook page for details. Current fans of the page should look for the VMA Giveaway tab for more information, and soon-to-be fans need only click “like” in order to receive the same info. We’ll be giving away one piece of carpet a day leading up to the show, with the remaining few up for grabs on Sunday. The 27th annual MTV Video Music Awards will be broadcast live from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday. The party starts with MTV News’ VMA Pre-Show at 8 p.m., followed by the main event at 9 p.m. ET. ‘Glee’ Cast In Desperate Hunt For VMA Tickets

‘Can we get some tickets, for God’s sake?’ asks a peeved Mike O’Malley. ‘Or do they only give it to the young kids of ‘Glee’?’ By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Jim Cantiello Matthew Morrison Photo: Jason Merritt/ Getty Images When MTV News announced that the cast of “Glee” would be presenting at this year’s Video Music Awards , fans of the show and castmembers alike seemed to have reason to celebrate. But it turns out not everyone is so “Glee”-ful. Some of their Fox castmates — specifically, those actors whose names aren’t Cory Monteith, Chris Colfer, Amber Riley and Jane Lynch — are trying to score VMA tickets before the show kicks off on Sunday in Los Angeles. “Can we get some tickets, for God’s sake? Or do they only give it to the young kids of ‘Glee’?” Mike O’Malley joked to MTV News at the show’s season-two premiere earlier this week. Dot Jones asked us, “Can I go with you?” “I want to go!” Jessalyn Gilsig, who plays Will Schuester’s wife, whined. Well, they may not be able to make it to the awards show, but they can watch it from the comfort of their living rooms and catch the night’s other big presenters. TV talk-show maven and former “American Idol” host Ellen DeGeneres (who will tape an episode of her show at the VMAs), reality-show starlet Kim Kardashian, VMA-nominated Katy Perry, “Star Trek” star Chris Pine, Rosario Dawson, the cast of “Jackass” (including Johnny Knoxville, Bam Margera and Steve-O) and others will present from the Nokia Theatre. But co-star Matthew Morrison , who has a solo album in the works, revealed his a plan to score a place at the next Video Music Awards. “I’m hoping to perform at the VMAs next year!” The 27th annual MTV Video Music Awards will be broadcast live from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday. The party starts with MTV News’ VMA Pre-Show at 8 p.m., followed by the main event at 9 p.m. ET.
