Amy Poehler, Blake Lively, and Prince William and Kate Middleton also on the list. By Gil Kaufman Justin Bieber Photo: Mark Von Holden/ WireImage What kind of list includes Justin Bieber alongside Vice President Joseph Biden, Prince William and Kate Middleton, and Oprah Winfrey? It must be Time magazine’s list of the 100 most influential people in the world. The annual count of the people who, for better or worse, make our world fascinating, includes an essay by mentor Usher extolling the virtues of the Biebs. “From the minute I met Justin, I knew this kid possessed a certain confidence that only a star could have,” wrote Usher. “He was born a star. He knew what he wanted to accomplish; all he had to do was get everyone else to believe it. Now, looking back at his incredible run, the reality of who he is and what he’s accomplished far exceeds anybody’s expectations of him. What’s interesting and will keep the world watching is that at the same time he’s having this incredible success, he’s like any other kid living a normal life.” In his typically impish style, “Parks & Recreation” co-star and comedian Aziz Ansari spent most of his 150 words in praise of series star and producer Amy Poehler , after complaining about an alleged real estate scam she pulled on him. “That said, I cannot say how much I admire and respect Amy Poehler,” he wrote. “In comedy, a lot of what you see feels derivative and uninspired; with Amy, 39, there is always something fresh and unexpected, and that’s why I love her work.” Director Baz Luhrmann marveled at actress Blake Lively for pulling off the unique trick of channeling the “vitality of youth — that indefinable, natural, unprocessed glamour full of possibility and filled with anticipation for an endless future.” Actress Glenn Close wrote of the talents of her “Albert Nobbs” co-star Mia Wasikowska (“Alice in Wonderland,” “The Kids Are All Right”), saying the 21-year-old is “a sun, not a satellite. She generates her own energy. She’s seductive because she’s not compelled to reveal everything. Her shyness has made her an acute observer. At the same time, she loves a good joke, loves to laugh and can suddenly have the boisterous physicality of a teenager. Mia will be many things in life and will defy expectation because she’s brilliant and curious and not fooled by what most people define as success.” When it comes to “Glee” star Chris Colfer, co-star Dianna Agron said the 20-year-old song-and-dance man “lives by extreme truth, speaking out against the epidemic of bullying that he, too, faced in high school. The honesty that he infuses into his ‘Glee’ character, Kurt, leaves you reeling.” Elsewhere, B.o.B writes of his pal Bruno Mars, 25, that the singer/songwriter “has a musicality, a presence in his voice that I’ve never heard from anyone else.” Among the others making the list were Google executive Wael Ghonim, credited with being the voice of the revolution in Egypt; Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg; WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange; Congresswoman and shooting victim Gabrielle Giffords; Sting; and President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama. For the third year, South Korean pop superstar Rain made it onto the list as the result of a reader’s poll. ‘For the past 10 years, I’ve had a really unhealthy relationship with food,’ Disney star confides in new ABC News interview. By Jocelyn Vena Demi Lovato Photo: John Shearer/WireImage Demi Lovato surprised everyone when she quit her tour with the Jonas Brothers last fall to seek treatment for ” emotional and physical issues .” She recently opened up about those personal issues, which back then caused much speculation about exactly what ailed her, in a new interview with ABC News . Lovato also confirmed that she will no longer be starring in her TV show, “Sonny With a Chance.” “I’ve spoken openly about being bullied throughout the past few years, but one thing that I’ve never been able to feel comfortable talking about was the effects that it had on my life afterwards,” she said. “I literally didn’t know why they were being so mean to me. And when I would ask them why, they would just say, ‘Well, you’re fat.’ “I developed an eating disorder, and that’s kind of what I’ve been dealing with ever since. I was compulsively overeating when I was 8 years old,” she continued. “So, I guess, for the past 10 years, I’ve had a really unhealthy relationship with food.” Her eating disorder also gave way to self-mutilation. In the interview, which airs on ” Good Morning America ” and “20/20” on Friday, the Disney star says she began cutting herself at age 11. “It was a way of expressing my own shame, of myself, on my own body,” she told Robin Roberts. “I was matching the inside to the outside. And there were some times where my emotions were just so built up, I didn’t know what to do. The only way that I could get instant gratification was through an immediate release on myself.” The emotional ups and downs came to a head last summer while on tour with the Jonas Brothers. “I was performing concerts on an empty stomach,” she said. “I was losing my voice from purging. I was self-medicating. I was not taking medication for depression, and I literally was so emotionally whacked out that I took it out on someone that meant a lot to me.” She is referring to an incident in which Lovato reportedly got into a physical altercation with one of the dancers on the tour. An intervention was staged following that incident, and she entered treatment. “I take 100 percent, full responsibility. I feel horrible. [She] was my friend,” she said. “They sat me down and said, ‘You can’t live like this.’ ” She recalled that once she entered the facility, “For the first time in my life, I started to feel.” Her sister and her fans acted as her strength as she dealt with the issues she had kept quiet for a decade. “A picture of my little sister [Madison], on my little bulletin board, was one of the main things that kept me going,” she said. “I just kept thinking, ‘OK, set this example for your little sister,’ ” she explained. “The real reason why I’m sitting down with you is to open up the eyes of so many young girls, that it doesn’t have to be this way.” The same day the preview for the ABC News interview hit the Web, it was announced that Lovato would be leaving her Disney show, “Sonny With a Chance.” “It made sense for me to go ahead and leave the show to focus on my music,” Lovato told People.com . “It’s kind of sad for me that a chapter of my life has ended, but there couldn’t be a better time for me to move on.” “I don’t think going back to ‘Sonny’ would be healthy for my recovery,” she added. “Being in front of a camera would make me nervous.” A rep for the show confirms her decision and the network is supporting Lovato’s future endeavors, which include recording for Disney’s record label. “We respect Demi’s decision to focus full-time on her music and not immediately return to her acting career,” a rep explained. “She is a talented young woman and our hearts are with her as she continues to take action to improve her health and bounce back from adversity.” Related Photos The Evolution Of: Demi Lovato Related Artists Demi Lovato
You may consider this new tattoo tribute to Michael Jackson a little late considering he passed away almost two years ago. But it’s for good reason. Da Brat was just released from prison after a 3-year stint and wanted to show her love for the icon by putting a full-body profile of him on her leg. Jermaine Dupri, who posted the pic of the fresh ink, commented on the tribute by writing, “BRAT JUST GOT THIS, SHE MAKING ME WANNA GO.” Guess Who! Whose Celebrity Kindergarten Class Photo Is This? The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) recently spoke out about Lil’ B ‘s recently announced album title, I’m Gay . During his recent Coachella performance, Lil’ B says the album title is meant to show that words don’t really matter. A spokesperson for GLAAD tells XXL that they are supportive of the album title… to a point. As a lyricist, Lil B knows that words matter. Slurs have the power to fuel intolerance. We hope that Lil B’s album title is not just a gimmick, and is really a sincere attempt to be an ally. He has the platform and the voice. We hope he uses it in a positive way. ‘After dealing with the stress of the past year, Catherine made the decision to check in to a mental health facility,’ actress’ rep says. By Jocelyn Vena Catherine Zeta-Jones Photo: Michael Buckner/ Getty Images Catherine Zeta-Jones surprised everyone on Wednesday when she went public with her battle with bipolar II disorder. The star’s rep confirmed that the Hollywood A-lister spent about five days in an unidentified facility to deal with the illness. “After dealing with the stress of the past year, Catherine made the decision to check in to a mental health facility for a brief stay to treat her bipolar II disorder,” her rep said in a statement to People.com . “She’s feeling great and looking forward to starting work this week on her two upcoming films.” Zeta-Jones and her husband, Michael Douglas , certainly have had a stressful year. Douglas underwent treatment for throat cancer last year, and in January, he appeared on the “Today” show to discuss his medical scare and tell fans that he is now cancer free. “There’s no question it’s been a stressful year,” a friend of Zeta-Jones said. “Catherine has had to deal with Michael’s illness and that’s been hard. She went in for a few days because she’s about to start working and wanted to make sure she’s in top form, which she is.” Bipolar II disorder is a form of depression characterized by episodes of major depression alternating with periods of elevated highs, also known as hypermania. Often the disorder is triggered by periods of stress and can lead to a depression that includes mood swings. Bipolar II disorder differs from bipolar I disorder in that the “up” moods never reach full-on mania, according to WebMD . Douglas and Zeta-Jones appeared at the Golden Globes earlier this year, where he commented on his recent medical challenges. “There’s got to be an easier way to get a standing ovation,” Douglas joked about his warm reception. “Thank you all very much. I’m really very, very happy to be here tonight,” he added, as Zeta-Jones looked on from the audience.
‘Arthur’ star will play narrator Lonny in the big-screen adaptation of the rocking Broadway musical. By Jocelyn Vena Russell Brand Photo: Jemal Countess/ Getty Images It seems Russell Brand’s, um, “scheduling” conflicts were cleared up. After the madcap British actor suggested to MTV News in March that he’d be up for a role in the upcoming film adaptation of the hit Broadway musical “Rock of Ages” if salary negotiations went as planned, on Wednesday the movie’s director, Adam Shankman, announced that Brand had been officially cast in the star-filled project. “I can officially announce Russell Brand as your Lonny in #rockofagesmovie!” Shankman wrote on Twitter . “I see a mullet in his future…maybe a Nikki Six?” The part is the latest addition to Brand’s growing r
