Consequence ‘Disappointed’ In Q-Tip’s Public Beef With Tribe Documentary

‘I was really disappointed in my cousin when he came up here and he had the email,’ Cons tells MTV News of Tip’s ‘RapFix Live’ appearance. By Rob Markman, with reporting by Sway Calloway Consequence on “RapFix Live” Photo: MTV News They say blood is thicker than water, but not even the blood bond Consequence shares with cousin Q-Tip would stop the Queens MC from expressing his displeasure to Sway on MTV News’ “RapFix Live.” Before Consequence got down with Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music , he got his start as an affiliate of iconic hip-hop group A Tribe Called Quest, appearing on four of the 15 tracks on the group’s 1996 album Beats, Rhymes and Life. These days, Cons is on the outs with Q-Tip. He was critical of the way the ATCQ frontman aired out his grievances with Michael Rapaport’s Tribe documentary “Beats, Rhymes and Life: The Travels of a Tribe Called Quest.” “I was really disappointed in my cousin when he came up here and he had the email,” Cons said of the email Q-Tip printed out and brought up to “RapFix Live” in March. The email, which was accidentally sent to Tip by one of the documentary’s producers, indicated that there was a plan to cheat ATCQ out of getting producer credits on the film. “Man, you’re a superstar. What are you doing with a printout?” Consequence questioned. “That’s what your lawyer is for. You gave us ‘industry rule #4080.’ We’re still holding on to 4080,” he said in reference to Q-Tip’s 1991 “Check the Rhime” lyric “Industry rule #4080: Record-company people are shady.” “I don’t want to see no scrolls. You Q-Tip. It’s a vivrant thing, and if it’s like that with Michael Rapaport, make it a violent thing,” he continued to rant. Ultimately, ‘Quence seemed to be most critical of the way Q-Tip and the dissenting members of Tribe publicly handled their beef with Rapaport and the filmmakers. Consequence also questioned what all the dissention would ultimately do to A Tribe Called Quest’s legacy. He pointed to the fact that the rap group was not on a unified front. On April 29, Phife Dawg appeared on “RapFix Live” and was in support of the film. “That’s his legacy too,” Cons said, referring to Phife. “And before y’all make a move, y’all gotta iron that out.” Do you agree with Consequence? Should Q-Tip have handled his grievances differently? Let us know win the comments. Related Videos ‘RapFix Live’ With Lil B, Consequence And Pharoahe Monch

Lady Gaga’s ‘Judas’ Video: A Pop-Culture Cheat Sheet

Gaga’s latest clip mixes the sacred with the profane and includes a nod to Marlon Brandon too — here are all the references! By James Montgomery Lady Gaga Photo: George Pimentel/ Getty Images Love her or hate her, you’ve got to admit that Lady Gaga knows how to make a music video. Her clips always have been a mixture of high-art posturing and knowing nods to pop-culture ephemera, and “Judas” is no different. While it’s not filled with blink-and-you’ll-miss-it references like “Telephone” or odes to German Expressionism like “Alejandro,” there’s still plenty to wrap your eyes around in “Judas,” offering a mixture of the sacred and the profane. Gaga merges mentions to religious iconography and cult biker flicks (and pretty much everything in between) in the video, and so, we decided to take notes. Here’s our “Judas” pop-culture cheat sheet, alphabetized for your perusing pleasure … you can’t tell your Botticellis from your Brandos without it. “The Birth of Venus” : Iconic 15th century painting by Sandro Botticelli depicting the Roman goddess Venus emerging from the sea. Art historians have interpreted the work in many ways — a contemplation on physical and spiritual beauty, a celebration of the divine, a “wedding painting” meant to, uh, inspire the bride and groom — but in “Judas,” when Gaga strikes a pose similar to the painting, she seems to be paying tribute to all three. “Electric Chapel” : Gaga has said that she created her Monster Ball Tour so that her fans “would have a place to go … a safe place … an ‘Electric Chapel.’ ” It’s also the name of a song on her upcoming Born This Way album. In “Judas,” the Chapel is reimagined as a biker bar, where LG attempts to warn Jesus about Judas’ impending betrayal. Eye of Horus : An ancient Egyptian symbol of protection, closely associated with the goddess Wadjet. In “Judas,” Gaga wears eye makeup that recalls the symbol, which makes sense, since, as Mary Magdalene, she attempts to protect Christ from Judas’ backstabbing. Foot Washing : A religious rite observed by several Christian denominations. In the Bible, Christ washed the feet of his apostles before the Last Supper, the final meal he shared before his crucifixion. Gaga washes Christ’s feet in “Judas,” perhaps symbolizing his forthcoming demise, something that Judas certainly had a hand in. Golden Gun : Fictional weapon from the 1974 James Bond film “The Man With the Golden Gun,” and a totally kick-ass sidearm in the “GoldenEye” video game. Gaga wields a similar piece in “Judas,” though hers doesn’t contain bullets; instead, it’s a rather grandiose tube of lipstick, which she smears on Judas’ face. The Kiss of Judas : In the Bible, it is Judas’ final act of betrayal — he kisses Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane after the Last Supper as a way of identifying him to the soldiers who have come to arrest him. The same scene is played out in “Judas,” as the betrayer plants a pair of kisses on Christ’s cheeks. Mary Magdalene : A disciple of Jesus and one of the most controversial characters in the Bible, early scholars painted her as a repentant prostitute, while in the 20th and 21st century, she has come to be celebrated as a patron saint of women’s preaching and ministry. Not surprisingly, Gaga takes on the role of Magdalene, reimagining her as a badass chick with a penchant for chola fashion. Norman Reedus : American actor/model known for his roles in “The Boondock Saints” and, more recently, AMC’s “The Walking Dead.” In “Judas,” he plays the titular apostle with gleefully evil aplomb. Rick Gonzalez : American character actor who has appeared in dozens of films, most notably “Coach Carter” and, uh, “Old School,” where he played “Spanish.” In “Judas,” he’s given a gangster makeover as Jesus Christ. Sacred Heart : Religious icon that symbolizes Christ’s divine love for humanity. Often depicted as bleeding and wrapped in thorns, in “Judas,” Gaga can be seen wearing a Sacred Heart on her wardrobe. Simon Peter : One of Christ’s 12 apostles, also known as Saint Peter, he is regarded by the Catholic Church as the first pope. Before the Last Supper, when Christ washed his apostles’ feet, Peter originally refused, claiming he was not worthy. During Christ’s arrest, Peter sliced the ear of a servant of the High Priest who had come to seize him. In “Judas,” Gaga singles out Peter at the “Electric Chapel,” patting him on the back. “The Wild One” : 1953 biker film starring a young Marlon Brando as the leader of the Black Rebels Motorcycle Club. That leather-clad gang of ne’er-do-wells seems to be the direct inspiration for Christ’s biker-apostles in “Judas.” Can you spot any other literary, historic or pop-culture references in Lady Gaga’s “Judas” video? 8 Tips To Eating Healthy This Easter

Just when you thought all the holidays were behind you — and no longer threatening your weight-loss — along comes Easter. Towering displays of marshmallow chicks and chocolate bunnies fill the stores, and you or your relatives may be planning a massive feast. Here are 8 tips to survive this weekend 1- Watch that basket Focus on the meaning and the nonfood traditions of the holiday rather than the meals. I make one basket for the house so that all guests that visit can partake. 2- Don’t sit down to dinner on an empty stomach.- You’ll be more likely to overeat. Make sure that you do not starve yourself so that you can sit down and “enjoy” a good meal. 3- Be active – Go for a walk before church or coordinate a street-wide Easter egg hunt or parade. You would be amazed at all the local offerings. Get outside! 4- Rethink that Easter basket- Purchase nontraditional gifts (books, costume jewelry, gift certificates) are even more appreciated than the usual candy, consider making healthy meal substitutions. The toys are not as cheap when we were little and will last. 5- Shift your focus -Remind yourself that holidays are not about a whole season, a whole weekend or even a whole day. Think about what is actually on the menu you are planning. Is there anything that you can tweak. You might surprise yourself and your family with something new. 6- “Un”-Chocolate Eggs – Instead of buying lots of candy, buy plastic eggs and fill them with stickers, money or small toys. This has become a big hit in my household. 7- Spread the wealth – Don’t buy a big bag of candy. But if it ends up that you have one: Share, share, share! It will make you the most popular adult this holiday. Adults like to share in candy they only see once a year. I had a co-worker who collected peeps. Yes those marshmallow toothaches. 8- Change the sweets to natural sweets – Now is a good time to switch out candy for fruit that is in season. This year I will be usuing small cellophane packets of raisins and sunflower seeds in the basket. Most of all have fun!  Enjoy the holiday with others and that alone  surpasses wanting to eat. Walking Dead Billboard Kills in UK

A billboard promoting AMC’s hit The Walking Dead has sparked a bit of controversy in the UK this week, but not because of the show’s violent content. The huge banner – brandishing the tagline “What makes us human?” – for the zombie drama isn’t just visible, it’s unavoidable for people walking by. Which would probably be alright, except for what’s inside the building: Bad taste? Marketing genius? A hybrid of the two? Who knows! “There must have been somewhere else they could placed it that would have shown a degree of insight and sensitivity,” said a peeved resident . Advertiser Clear Channel reportedly issued this apology: “Clear Channel apologises for any offense caused by the unfortunate juxtaposition of this advertisement, which was certainly not intended.” “We arranged to have it removed right away.”

Queens of the Stone Age Keep Rock Alive In Austin, Texas

The Josh Homme-fronted band played its entire self-titled debut album and assorted other favorites at the SXSW festival on Wednesday. By Zachary Swickey Queens of the Stone Age’s Josh Homme performs at SXSW on Wednesday Photo: Zachary Swickey AUSTIN, Texas — Walking onstage sporting a red, slicked-back mohawk mullet, with bottle of vodka in hand, the riff factory known as Josh Homme was ready to get down to business with his old pals on Wednesday night. While he was a little busy last year working with a few guys you may have heard of — Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl and Led Zeppelin’s John Paul Jones — in the side project Them Crooked Vultures, Homme is now waxing nostalgic by playing the Queens’ eponymous 1998 debut in its entirety on a new tour . What better place to kick off said trek than the tiny, 1,200-capacity La Zona Rosa at the South by Southwest music festival? The band wasted no time kicking into “Regular John,” which set the tone for the night as Queens pulled the tune off flawlessly. The Queens must have had fun rehearsing the old record, because there were no audible technical mishaps, and no small subtleties were left out as the keypad sounds that began “You Would Know” were heard. After the intense instrumental “Hispanic Impressions,” Homme calmed things down — lighting himself a cigarette and taking a swig of his bottle — before serenading the women in the audience with “You Can’t Quit Me Baby.” Soon, we were all ordered to dance to the thundering drumbeat of “Give the Mule What He Wants.” After performing their whole self-titled album, start-to-finish, Queens of the Stone Age came back with an encore full of hits that was nearly as long. Homme asked the audience for any song requests, and a lucky woman got hers fulfilled when they played the sexy fan-favorite “Make It Wit Chu,” from Era Vulgaris. Homme’s banter was livelier than ever as he mimicked one concertgoer who sounded like Sammy Hagar (“Paaaaarty!”), and then proceeded to chastise a security guard for spotlighting another fan. “Hey, turn your light off and let the guy film the show if he wants,” the singer/guitarist commanded. “Let him do whatever he wants.” The comment could not have seemed more appropriate considering that after the next song, Homme handed his bottle of vodka (now half-empty) to the front row of fans. The audience’s fervor and intensity was at its highest during “Go With the Flow,” which started a small ruckus in the crowd for first time in the night. As Homme shredded away to “Little Sister” from Lullabies to Paralyze came the sad realization that the night was coming to a close. Sobriety may work for Eminem, but it has no place in the music world in where Josh Homme lives. Rest assured, if Elvis were alive today, he and Homme would be drinking buddies. Leave it to Queens of the Stone Ago to let the world know that rock and roll is alive and well. Have you caught Queens of the Stone Age in concert? Share your experiences in the comments. Foo Fighters Hungry For Musical March Madness Success

First-round voting set to close Sunday at midnight. By James Montgomery Foo Fighters Photo: MTV News The Foo Fighters entered the 2011 Musical March Madness tournament as the top seed in the meaty Midwest region, and, so far, they’ve lived up to that high billing, totally dominating their over-matched first-round opponents, 16th-seeded the Damned Things . Vote for your favorite bands now over on the Newsroom blog. With voting on opening-round matchups set to close Sunday at midnight, the Foos hold a commanding 73-27 lead over the Damned Things (who were rallying the troops early) , all but ensuring them a spot in the second round of our tournament. And though they’re poised to move one step closer to hoisting the championship trophy , the Foos remain remarkably nonplussed about not only their title hopes, but the entire MMM bracket, for that matter. “That sounds like exercise or something,” Foos frontman Dave Grohl replied when asked about Musical March Madness. “And ‘bracket’ sounds like ‘brisket’ to me. Sort of makes me want to eat something.” It bears mention that Grohl said this one day after the Foo Fighters kicked off the South by Southwest Music Festival with a raucous surprise set at the Austin, Texas, BBQ shack/venue Stubb’s , which probably explains why he had brisket on the brain. But still, with a field of competitors that still includes heavyweights like 30 Seconds to Mars , Linkin Park and Panic! at the Disco , you’d think the Foos would a least be looking ahead to the tournament’s later rounds. But, again, you’d be wrong. Instead of looking forward, the Foo Fighters are looking backward. Seems, if anything, their Musical March Madness success has stirred up some painful childhood memories — certainly a first in the illustrious two-year history of the tourney. “[It] makes me think of walking down the hallway in high school and being called ‘f–‘ by all the jocks,” guitarist Chris Shiflett said, laughing. “You now what though?” drummer Taylor Hawkins added. “If you saw a picture of Chris in high school, you’d understand.” Will the Foos survive to stir up more bad thoughts for Shiflett? Or will they be felled by one of their fellow titans? Well, that’s really up to you, isn’t it? Voting is now open in all first-round matchups over on the Newsroom blog and closes Sunday night. May the best band win, even if it pains them to do so. MTV’s Musical March Madness tournament is back! Voting on all first-round matchups continues until Sunday, at which point we’ll move on to the second round of the action. All winners are determined by your votes, so if your favorite act made the cut, it’ll be up to you to guide them to glory. You can rally the troops on Twitter using the hashtag #MMM — but get ready, it’s gonna be a war. Related Photos Bands Hit The Court For MTV’s 2011 Musical March Madness
