(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — A former staff member of WikiLeaks said he will launch a new alternative website that he promises will be more transparent than WikiLeaks. Daniel Domscheit-Berg, the former deputy to WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange says he will launch Openleaks ( www.openleaks.org ) Monday in an effort to aid anonymous sources expose sensitive information to the public eye. As of this morning, the website displays nothing more than the Openleaks logo with the message “Coming soon!” The new website will be launched on Monday from its Germany headquarters as part of a board of directors-run, undisclosed foundation, said reporter Jesper Huor in a documentary by Swedish broadcaster SVT that will be aired on Sunday. “Openleaks is a technology project that is aiming to be a service provider for third parties that want to be able to accept material from anonymous sources,” Domscheit-Berg said in interviews conducted in Berlin. Domscheit-Berg said he left WikiLeaks after a falling out with Assange over the lack of transparency in the organization's decision-making process. In an interview with OWNI technology website, Domscheit-Berg declined to further elaborate on his dispute with Wikileaks but said that “in these last months, the organization has not been open any more, it lost its open-source promise.” He added that Openleaks intends on providing a vehicle to publish leaked materials without taking on a publisher role itself. “If you preach transparency to everyone else you have to be transparent yourself. You have to fulfill the same standards you expect from others, and I think that's where we've not been heading in the same direction philosophically anymore,” said Domscheit-Berg in the documentary. Domscheit-Berg said he had issues with the way WikiLeaks handled larger leaks, including the 400,000 classified US war files from Iraq and 76,000 from Afghanistan from earlier this year. He said that it would have been wiser for WikiLeaks to publish these documents “slowly, step by step, to grow the project.” The launch of Openleaks comes after mounting speculation about the existence of copycat sites of the controversial site. Meanwhile, both WikiLeaks and Assange continue to face pressure after the site published 250,000 secret US diplomatic cables last month. Financial institutions such as Swiss Postfinance, Mastercard, Visa and Pay Pal have cut off the means for people to send donations to WikiLeaks, while Assange has been imprisoned in the UK and faces extradition to Sweden on sex crime allegations. added by: ras_menelik

That’s one way to produce a television series. On Tuesday night , it was reported by Deadline that Walking Dead executive producer Frank Darabont had fired his writing staff ahead of the already-ordered season two, and was considering replacing them with freelancers. Well, and his own blood, sweat and zombie-tears. After all, based on the show credits, Darabont has already written or co-written every one of The Walking Dead episodes this fall. Which makes you wonder: Will his decision lead other showrunners to take such action?

‘Resident Evil: Afterlife’ Stars On Their Weapons Of Choice

By Kara Warner Milla Jovovich Photo: MTV News While much has been made of the current pop-culture obsession with vampires, there has been an equally fervent fixation on zombies (e.g., “Zombieland,” “28 Days Later,” “30 Days of Night,” AMC’s upcoming “The Walking Dead”), and this week marks the release of the fourth “Resident Evil” film. In this latest installment, “Resident Evil: Afterlife,” the story picks up roughly six months after “Resident Evil: Extinction.” Alice (Milla Jovovich) is desperately searching for survivors — first near a small town in Alaska, where she finds Claire Redfield (Ali Larter), and then in desolate, undead-ridden Los Angeles. Despite being the fourth film in the franchise, “Afterlife” contains a couple of notable firsts: the appearance of Chris Redfield (Wentworth Miller) and an Alice vs. Albert Wesker fight sequence. Speaking of fighting, when we caught up with the film’s two leading ladies recently, we asked them to share their preferred method/weaponry for eliminating zombies. “I like to get in there,” Jovovich said. “In ‘Resident Evil 3,’ I had my cookeries. I like the hacking, chopping bit. It’s nice to hit some flesh and bone and [hear the] crack. It made me feel really strong and powerful,” she revealed. “In this movie, I have a lot more guns, that was fun too.” Jovovich went on to compare the shooting of machine guns to playing guitar. “I never realized shooting guns is a lot like playing guitar — you need calluses for it,” she said. “After a day of shooting machine guns, I got blisters on my fingers. It’s like, ‘Oh, I need to practice a bit more and get those calluses going,” she said. “But thank god I don’t have to shoot machine guns every day.” Co-star Ali Larter agreed with Jovovich’s preference for hacking things, but admitted she has a special place in her heart for fancy Italian firearms. “I get to use an Italian Beretta in this film that’s never been on camera before, so that’s fun,” Larter bragged. “I also like using my knife and getting at Wesker. That’s pretty cool.” Larter went on to say that she and her co-stars were pretty bruised and battered by the end of the shoot as a result of the intense action sequences. “We spent a lot of time with stunt coordinators, with the weapons experts, making sure that we were doing it right and we were doing it safe. When you have five actors lined up and you’re shooting blanks — it’s one thing if everyone is 50 feet away, but when you’re within 3 feet of someone, you can really get hurt,” Larter explained. “It’s making sure that with all of us you really take the time to be professional.” “You also want to look real,” she added. “I don’t want to look like a sissy with a Beretta. WaPo’s Cohen: Obama Needs To Fire Key People Or Americans Will Fire Him

This really is the summer of media’s discontent. As Barack Obama’s poll numbers collapse along with the fate of Democrats in November, more of the President’s fans are calling for heads to roll at the White House. Just four days after Chris “Tingle Up The Leg” Matthews called for both Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel and Defense Secretary Robert Gates to be given their walking papers, the Washington Post’s Richard Cohen warned that if Obama doesn’t fire some key people, Americans are going to fire him. Readers are advised to strap themselves in tightly, for ” Obama’s Shrinking Presidency ” provides some dangerous changes in cabin pressure: One of the unintended results of the redecoration of the Oval Office was the downsizing of Barack Obama. In last week’s prime-time address to the nation, the president sat behind a massive and capaciously empty desk, looking somehow smaller than he ever has — a man physically reduced by sinking polls, a lousy economy and the prospect that his party might lose control of Congress. Behold something we never thought we’d see with Obama: The Incredible Shrinking Presidency. This is an amazing and, to me, somewhat frightening, turn of events. The folks who ran a very smart presidential campaign in 2008 have left the defining of the Obama presidency to others, in this case people on the edge of insanity. After running through some of the poll numbers, and discussing the Birther issue, Cohen drilled home the point that must really be making September feel like the dead of winter for liberal media members across the fruited plain: Obama is not all that liked and not very much known. He has become a polarizing figure — irrationally hated by Republicans and lacking much of his original support. Among whites, for instance, if the election were held now, Obama would get just an alarming 28 percent of the vote. We are once again two nations. Cohen next addressed how some of Obama’s unpopularity is caused by the lousy economy, which, of course, was all blamed on George W. Bush despite Democrats controlling Congress since January 2007. But the Post columnist employed what conservatives would call “tough love”: His stutter-step approach to certain issues — his wimpy statements regarding the planned Islamic center in Manhattan, for instance — erodes not just his standing but his profile. What we thought we knew, we do not. Like a picture hung in the sun, he fades over time. Then came the recommendations: But what Obama can do — what he must do — is get some new people. His staff ill-serves him so that he presents a persona at odds with his performance. The president needs better speechwriters. The president needs a staff to tell him not to give an Oval Office address unless he has something worthy of the Oval Office to say. The president needs someone to look into the camera so that, when the light goes on and he says, “Good evening,” he looks commander in chiefish: big. In other words, the president needs to fire some key people. Either that, or the way things are going, the American people are going to fire him. Indeed, but first they’re going to fire Obama’s accomplices in Congress, a fact that likely bothers Cohen greatly despite him ignoring it in this piece. But there’s another issue at play here: the junior senator from Illinois was sold to the American people during the campaign as being one of the most intelligent presidential candidates ever. Fawning media members gushed over his Ivy League education and his intellectual prowess.  Now, after approaching 20 months in office, his problems are all his staff’s fault. This seems hypocritical of liberals that always want to blame problems in the society on America’s CEOs. I guess even as they criticize the object of their affection, so-called journalists need to assign the real responsibility for this adminstration’s failure to others. Unlike their normal modus operandi, media members are now dutifully protecting the captain as this ship sinks. It really is amazing the number of rationalizations necessary to be a liberal these days.
