Critics have almost unanimously panned it , but all maintain that Minaj is an enormous talent whose album shifted focus away from her clear strength, rapping, to make way for more generic pop and dance tunes. The Barbz and Kenz make up one of the most fiercely loyal fanbases around, so Minaj isn’t losing love from them. Still, many are torn about the album. Some have proclaimed their love for the album, calling it “beyond great” and “fabulous.” @Craggleprice tweeted, “The album is amazing!! it’s got Rap, Pop, Dance and Ballads! best album! Drake and Lil Wayne Collabs r amazing! it all is!” Standout tracks among fans seem to be “Beautiful Sinner,” “Va Va Voom,” “Come on a Cone” and “Beez in the Trap.” Others stand by Minaj as an artist but are not into her latest work. @Rudy_Nelson wrote, “It’s horrible! and I’m a fan!” Minaj is also being compared to her pop contemporaries: As @Crucial416 commented, “It’s a great Rihanna album. He tweeted out the short tease days after he dropped the first tease on Friday. The new footage from the Colin Tilley-directed clip focuses on Bieber as he motionlessly floats underwater. Another shot from the blink-and-you-might-miss-it preview features the teen star, in a leather hoodie, standing in front of a burning tire swing. The first tease featured a shot of Bieber looking at the camera as ladies’ hands caress his face and chest. And that’s it. So, what does it all mean? Fans will have to wait until the video’s release to find out. When MTV News caught up with Bieber on the set of his “Boyfriend” video , he shared that the elements would play heavily into the theme of the video. “The concept of this video, I mean it’s not like a steady concept,” he said about the clip. “It’s not like ‘Justin follows this girl to this spot.’ No, it’s a bunch of amazing scenes: Like a fire scene, we have an ice scene. “It’s kind of like bouncing back and forth,” he said. “And then there’s scenes of me and just a bunch of girl dancers, and just some great shots, great artistic shots, great shots of me smiling. It’s fun.” “Boyfriend” is the lead single off his forthcoming album, Believe, set for release later this year. It was produced by Mike Posner and Mason Levy. Anticipation for the album seems to be quite high. The song sold 520,000 downloads in its first week. What does that mean? Well, it places Bieber at #2 in all-time first-week singles sales, behind Flo Rida’s record-holder “Right Round,” which moved 636,000 units in its first week. They’ve mostly been of the big tattooed wings on his back and his totally ripped torso. But in the just-released extended trailer for the movie remake of the smash Broadway jukebox musical “Rock of Ages” we finally get to hear a bit more from Tom Cruise as faded 80s metal icon Jaxx. In the final scene of the new two-and-a-half minute extended trailer , Cruise sings Bon Jovi’s “Wanted Dead or Alive” like an arena-rocking champ as sparks rain down from the rafters and his flowing mane of hair and tight leather pants drive the crowd into a frenzy. It just goes to show that all the research Cruise did to nail Jaxx paid off. “I just kind of studied the whole time period and read a lot of books,” he told MTV News of his preparation for the role. The clip shows off even more of star-stuffed cast, including a mustachioed Paul Giamatti, eternally psyched crowd-surfing club promoter Alec Baldwin , narrator Russell Brand , nerdy journalist Malin Akerman and, yes, a monkey in a studded leather jacket named “hey, man.” We also hear from aspiring rocker Diego Boneta as starry-eyed aspiring rocker Drew Boley, as well as the girl of his dreams, Julianne Hough , as they duet on the classic hair metal ballad “Heaven” by Warrant. After dropping last Monday, the song has sold 520,000 downloads in its first week. The number is particularly meaningful since it places him at #2 in all-time first-week singles sales. Flo Rida’s track “Right Round,” featuring a then up-and-coming Ke$ha, has the Biebs beat, according to Hits Daily Double . Flo’s track sits at #1 with 636,000 units moved. Other big sellers include the Black Eyed Peas’ “Boom Boom Pow” with 465,000 in downloads (#3), and Mother Monster herself, Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way” selling 447,000 (#4). Not only are fans gobbling up the single, but his real-life girlfriend, Selena Gomez, has given the song two thumbs up. “Is it my ring tone? No. I didn’t even know you could make it a ring tone,” Gomez told E! News . “It is a great song.” Bieber is hardly resting on his laurels. The teen star is back in the studio working on Believe. And the pop singer is giving his fans a lot of bang for their buck for taking the time to vote in the cover-art contest. After fans voted on Twitter for their favorite of two photos, the shot of Bieber tousling his hair (also known as #JBboyfriend1) won as the single’s cover. But that doesn’t mean that other shots won’t also be used in one form or another. “But it was so close that …” Bieber tweeted . “We are still going to use #JBboyfriend2 for press and even took one of the FAN MADE submissions and have decided that … we are going to sell an exclusive #BOYFRIEND fan single package in WALMART and the cover will be the one U the fans made! “So here it is … the cover of the Walmart #BOYFRIEND SINGLE COVER … made by U the fans! thank u! The Real Housewives of Atlanta spent 10 days in South Africa , but did anything really change besides Cynthia’s hairdos? We recap the homecoming in THG’s +/- review. First we have to leave South Africa which may take longer than you’d think given the amount of shoes that Marlo has to pack. Oh, but she has help. Some poor resort worker comes in so that Marlo can lounge on her bed and explain how each shoe must be packed in it’s own separate little bag so that they don’t rub together in flight. Seriously? Minus 10 . Then “Blue Eyes” as NeNe calls their personal helper must run across to help NeNe close up her suitcases. There are several but at least NeNe packed them herself so Plus 5 . I want to believe Blue Eyes got a decent tip for this nonsense but somehow I doubt it. When the ladies finally leave, there is singing and dancing. Yes, it’s supposed to be some sort of ceremonial custom but honestly, can you imagine how relieved the staff must be to see these high maintenance, bossy women finally leave?
