I think we can expect a little bit of everything in this performance.” Backed by a full band, the Cash Money Billionaire ran through his set, which included a heavy-metal take on one of his songs. The energetic MC bounced around the stage as he worked out the particulars, perfecting his set. After the awards show, Wayne’s C4 will be released at midnight on iTunes and other digital retailers before the physical CD version is dropped Tuesday. “The MTV Video Music Awards are one of the most watched and respected shows in the industry,” Ronald “Slim” Williams, CEO of Cash Money Records, said in a statement. “Wayne is one of the most respected and prolific artists in the industry. By pairing the release of Tha Carter IV with the VMAs, it will certainly add to the overall anticipation and excitement for fans everywhere for what will surely be an unforgettable evening.” The 28th annual MTV Video Music Awards will air live Sunday from Los Angeles at 9 p.m. ET/PT, following the Selena Gomez-hosted pre-show at 8. Lil Wayne Proud Of Drake, Nicki Minaj VMA Moments

‘It’s like you being a senior and you’re watching the freshmen come in,’ Wayne tells MTV News before Sunday’s show. By Rob Markman, with reporting by Rahman Dukes Drake performing at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images This time last year Lil Wayne was behind bars as VMA weekend festivities were kicking off — not that his incarceration dampened his spirits. The Young Money CEO had Nicki Minaj and Drake to root for. “I think it meant a whole lot more for me to see them onstage than it means for me to even be onstage this year, because I know they want this so bad and this is what they do it for,” Wayne said of his artists’ 2010 VMA moments versus his own involvement this year. Last year, Nicki performed “Check It Out” with will.i.am during the VMA Pre-Show, wearing in a cotton candy-colored wig and form-fitting purple catsuit. Her YM cohort Drake had a hell of a night himself as he partnered with Swizz Beatz and Mary J. Blige to give a Frank Sinatra-inspired big show performance of his Thank Me Later single “Fancy.” Wayne’s musical director Gil Smith promises a ‘rock star’ performance. This year, while the Harajuku Barbie and Drizzy are scheduled to attend, it’s Wayne who’s planning a major moment. Not only is his “6 Foot 7 Foot” up for Best Hip-Hop Video , but Weezy will perform and then release the digital version of his long-awaited Tha Carter IV LP when the clock strikes midnight . Still, for Tunechi, watching his Young Money team participate is rewarding enough. “They’re young, they’re fresh, and it’s beautiful to them,” Weezy said. “It’s like you being a senior and you’re watching the freshmen come in and enjoy the light. You remember, man, I remember being a freshman — that was amazing … to see them do that, I felt relieved like, ‘This is what it is all about, this is what it’s for.’ ” What are you hoping Wayne performs at the 2011 VMAs? Tell us in the comments! Lady Gaga Found Perfect ‘Fit’ In Cher For Duet

‘Cher heard the song and loved it and wanted to do it together,’ Mother Monster tells MTV News of ‘The Greatest Thing.’ By Christina Garibaldi Lady Gaga and Cher at the 2010 Video Music Awards Photo: WireImage Two of pop’s biggest divas, Lady Gaga and Cher, are teaming up for a highly anticipated collaboration, fittingly titled “The Greatest Thing.” Late last week Cher confirmed via Twitter that the song will be out in September, but few details have been revealed about the Gaga-penned track. So when MTV News caught up with the VMA-nominated Mother Monster herself last week, we asked her to dish about the track. It turns out that “The Greatest Thing” was a song she had been holding onto for some time. “I wrote that song a long time ago, and I’ve never put it on one of my own albums for, really, no particular reason,” Gaga told us. “I always write these concept records, and it just didn’t fit in. But it’s always been, like, this big, massive, beautiful hit record and everyone always says, ‘Why don’t you put that on your album?’ And I said, ‘I don’t know, it just doesn’t fit with everything else.’ ” The song was, however, a good fit for Cher’s new record and it will reportedly be the lead single off of her yet-untitled 26th studio album. “Cher heard the song and loved it and wanted to do it together,” Gaga added. “And I said, ‘F— yeah, it’s Cher!’ ” Of course, this collaboration may never have happened if it were not for last year’s VMA show, where Cher handed Gaga her Video of the Year Moonman for “Bad Romance.” Lady Gaga graced the stage in her infamous meat dress , making a memorable first impression on Cher — and the rest of the world. “I don’t think she realized I was handing her meat,” Gaga recalled. So what was Cher’s response to Gaga asking her to hold her meat purse? “She was like, ‘No problem, I’ll hold your purse.’ And then she just sort of had a steak in her hand, and was like, ‘Thanks, bitch!’ ” the “Born This Way” singer joked. Gaga is gearing up to create more memorable moments at the 2011 Video Music Awards . She’ll open the big show with a performance on Sunday night. The 28th annual MTV Video Music Awards will air live Sunday, August 28, from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles at 9 p.m. ET/PT, following the Selena Gomez-hosted pre-show at 8. Lil Wayne’s ‘How To Love’ Video ‘Harsh’ But ‘Real’

‘It was necessary, because these are the things that happen in real life,’ director Chris Robinson tells MTV News. By Rob Markman Lil Wayne Photo: MTV News The lyrics of Lil Wayne’s ballad “How to Love” are probably best described as romantically tragic, but after Weezy premiered the video online Wednesday, the song took on a more dire meaning. The Chris Robinson-directed clip tells the story of an abused mother, who unintentionally leads her daughter to relive her own vicious cycle. “I have a daughter, Wayne has a daughter, and he really wanted to tell the story,” Robinson told MTV News. “We were talking about statistics of abuse in our community. We were talking about really telling this story for every young woman in the world.” The video follows the life of a mother, who is beaten by her boyfriend while her baby daughter watches. As the little girl grows older, she visits her father in prison, and then as a preteen, she is molested by one of her mother’s lovers. From there, the young lady, played by model/actress Chanta Patton, grows up to become a stripper and eventual prostitute who contracts HIV. The cautionary clip is heavy in its message and not necessarily easy to watch. It wasn’t easy to film, either; Robinson talked about the difficulty of filming the molestation scene, where we see the young girl wearing pigtails trying to fight off her adult attacker. “That was a harsh scene; it was difficult for us to shoot,” the director said. “It was necessary, because these are the things that happen in real life. And you can see the trajectory of where that took her.” The video in some ways is reminiscent of TLC’s 1995 video for “Waterfalls,” in which the song drives a narrative with a deep message. Weezy’s performance shots are almost an afterthought. “Speaking to Wayne, his performance — actually seeing him — was secondary to him,” Robinson explained. “He really wanted to communicate what his thought was, what he really felt when he wrote these lyrics, and that was the priority for us.” In fact, it was the rapper’s lyrics that drove the story home. Key scenes fell in sync with Tunechi’s rhymes. “For me, I think Wayne’s performance, we really showed him when he said these poignant lines, things that really connected,” the director explained. “The concept is more a narrative. It’s a story about two paths in someone’s life and how one small choice that you make can affect your whole life.” Lil Wayne, who hits the stage as a performer at Sunday’s VMAs , will drop Tha Carter IV at midnight after the big show. The 28th annual MTV Video Music Awards will air live Sunday from Los Angeles at 9 p.m. ET/PT, following the Selena Gomez-hosted pre-show at 8. Lil Wayne Drops Deep Messages In ‘How To Love’ Video

Tragic clip tugs at heartstrings with depictions of abuse, molestation and prostitution. By Rob Markman Lil Wayne Photo: Getty Images If fans already thought that Lil Wayne put his emotions on display on “How to Love,” off Tha Carter IV, wait until they get a load of the video, which premieres online on Wednesday (August 24). The Chris Robinson-directed clip is filled with drama and social commentary, telling the story of a beautiful young woman who stumbles into every imaginable pitfall. The video opens in an abortion clinic, where a woman lies in a gown on the operating table. Suddenly she changes her mind and flies off the table and through the clinic’s hall, choosing to keep her child. Shortly after that, the song’s acoustic guitar licks drop in and we see a shirtless Wayne alone in a dimly lit hallway, singing, “You had a lot of crooks try to steal your heart, never really had luck, could never figure out how to love.” It is then that the distressed woman’s story begins to unspool. We first see her being abused by her boyfriend, thrown to the ground in her bedroom while her infant, sitting in a car seat nearby, cries. Fast-forward a few years later, and the mother is in a prison visiting room, talking to her incarcerated boyfriend through a glass panel while her daughter, now a toddler, sits in her lap. “How to Love” producer Detail warned that the single’s video would “shock” us. A boyfriend in prison is just the tip of the iceberg. Things get disturbing in a flashback scene that reveals the woman was molested as a child. The scene starts just as Tunechi belts out, “When you were just a youngin, your looks were so precious.” Cash Money and company clearly pulled no punches. We see the pre-teen sitting in pigtails as her father (or father figure) approaches her unfastening his belt, putting his fingers to his lips, messaging for her to keep quiet as she tries to fight him off. In the following sequences, it is hinted that she eventually gave birth to her molester’s baby. The message is deep, and in the video Wayne plays second fiddle, not letting his performance shots get in the way of Robinson’s story-telling. Together they illustrate a domino effect. Forget going from bad to worse: During the course of the five-minute clip things go from tragic to abysmal. The young woman’s eventual career as a stripper begets prostitution, and it is her life as a prostitute that ultimately leads to a death sentence. At approximately the three-minute mark the music cuts out and we see the principal character in a doctor’s office similar to the one shown in the first scene, only this time she isn’t able to run from the results. “Your blood results came back positive,” the doctor tells her. When she asks, “Positive for what?,” he replies, “HIV.” Maybe the message is dramatically overdone, but with the clip Wayne — who will be performing at the Video Music Awards and dropping his album at midnight afterwards — sparks discussion much like TLC did with their cautionary 1995 video for “Waterfalls.” There is hope, however; in a rewind sequence the victim’s life is redone. In an alternate reality, the abuse that she faced is erased. There is no molestation, no beatings, no prison visits, stripping or exchanging sex for money. Instead she graduates high school, is married in a church and winds up in the same doctor’s office, this time finding out that she is pregnant. She reacts with a joyous sigh, turns to her mother and says, “Thank you, just thank you for being there for me and teaching me how to love.” It wasn’t just the guitar strings that Weezy plucked at with this single; he was clearly tugging at the heartstrings as well. Get Prepared, Make An Emergency Plan

In light of today’s unexpected earthquake om the East Coast here  is a list of things that one should have in case of an emergency. Developing an emergency plan is a beneficial thing to have when switchboards overload. Why Buy Silver & Gold ? Consider developing a disaster plan with your household members to prepare for what to do, how to find each other, and how to communicate in an emergency. Decide where your household will reunite after a disaster. Identify two places to meet: one right outside your home and another outside your neighborhood, such as a library, community center, or place of worship. Identify all possible exit routes from your home and neighborhood. Designate an out-of-state friend or relative that household members can call if separated during a disaster. If New York City phone circuits are busy, long-distance calls may be easier to make. This out-of-state contact can help you and your family communicate. Account for everybody’s needs, especially seniors, people with disabilities, and non-English speakers. Ensure that household members have a copy of your household disaster plan and emergency contact information to keep in their wallets and backpacks. Practice your plan with all household members. When developing your family’s disaster plan, you should assemble and make copies of vital contact information for each family member. Basic Safety Rules To Help Your Family Enjoy This Summer

Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter IV Drops At Midnight After VMAs

Weezy’s VMA performance and nominations lead up to the long-awaited release on Sunday night. By Alvin Blanco Lil Wayne Photo: Clinton Gilders/ FilmMagic Lil Wayne is going to dabble in a little midnight madness. Already scheduled to perform at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday, Weezy has just announced that he’ll also be dropping his highly anticipated new album, Tha Carter IV, at midnight, right after the show. “I am extremely excited to be the first artist to utilize such an amazing idea. I hope that I can open the door for others,” Lil Wayne said in a press statement. The YMCMB rapper’s latest will be released digitally via iTunes, Amazon and other legal MP3 download destinations at 12 a.m. on August 29. Those still dedicated to physical CDs need not worry since the album will be in retail stores later that Monday. The release of Tha Carter IV will be the capstone to a big night for Weezy, who is also up for Moonmen in the Best Hip-Hop Video and Best Collaboration categories. And despite Wayne’s skateboarding accident over the weekend (he tweeted that he needed nine stitches for a gash over his eye), he is sure to take the Nokia Theatre stage by storm this week. “The MTV Video Music Awards are one of the most watched and respected shows in the industry,” Ronald “Slim” Williams, CEO of Cash Money Records, said in a statement. “Wayne is one of the most respected and prolific artists in the industry. By pairing the release of Tha Carter IV with the VMAs, it will certainly add to the overall anticipation and excitement for fans everywhere for what will surely be an unforgettable evening.” With Jay-Z and Kanye West throwing a wrench into traditional album-release strategies with their Watch the Throne project, Lil Wayne has chosen to make his own release an event by coinciding with another. “Lil Wayne continues to change the game; this time with a new release strategy that demonstrates the power of the VMAs to grab the attention of music fans,” MTV President Stephen Friedman said. “After our millions of viewers experience the VMAs, they can go online at midnight and download the album they’ve all been waiting for.” Tha Carter IV ‘s latest single is “She Will” and will feature appearances from, T-Pain, Tech N9ne, Rick Ross, John Legend, Jadakiss, Nas and Busta Rhymes, among others. The 28th annual MTV Video Music Awards will air live Sunday, August 28, from Los Angeles at 9 p.m. ET/PT, following the Selena Gomez-hosted pre-show at 8. Final Destination 5: “Great Twist You Won’t See Coming”

See the original post here:

The stakes are higher and the deaths even more gruesome in Final Destination 5 , which opens today in theaters nationwide.   In the latest installment, Death is back from holiday and out to decimate the newest group of young teenagers who dare to defy its foolproof design.  With a heart-pounding suspension bridge collapse and a jaw-dropping twist ending, first time director Steven Quale and screenwriter Eric Heisserer have given  the Final Destination mythos a much needed reboot. The Urban Daily sat down with the cast to find out out what’s it’s like working on one of Hollywood’s creepiest franchises. Screenwriter Eric Heisserer on bringing something new to the Final Destination franchise: “I wanted to bring a moral dilemna  for the characters because if they’re just waiting to die in succession, it flattens the drama.” Arlen Escarpeta on escaping “the  curse of the black guy”  in horror films: “It’s such a stigma that the black guy always dies first.  Can I be like the Barack Obama of horror films?” P.J. Byrne on suffering for “his art”: “I had to go to an actual acupuncturist before filming, so they could put needles all over my body.  The two that destroyed me were the ones that went into my ears—it was rough, but I did it for the movie.” Courtney B. Vance on joining the “Final Destination” franchise: “I’m a very big fan of Avatar and (director) Steve Quale was a part of this.  So I told him whatever I can do, I want to be a part of it.” Jacqueline Macinnes Woods on shooting the laser eye surgery scene: “We shot from 9 at night til 6 in the morning.  The eye speculum went in and out of my eye like 70 times. They numbed my eye put the speculum in, they even glued my eyelashes to my eyebrows.  At one point I was so tired but I couldn’t sleep because my eye couldn’t fully close.” Miles Fisher on his character’s trajectory from good guy to bad guy: “It was a challenge. When I read the script I thought “Ok, what would you do if in one second, hundreds of people died in front of you including your friends and work colleagues? If what happened in the film happened in real life I think some people would truly go crazy.” Ellen Wroe (a real life gymnast)  shared the worst gymnastics injury she ever witnessed: “My sister Winnie was doing a double back dismount and she over-rotated her knee, and her knee hit her cheek.  Her entire cheekbone broke in eight places; she had to get plastic surgery.  Luckily, nothing has happened to me. ” Tony Todd responding to various theories as to the true identity of his character William Bludworth: “When I started on the first Final Destination I created this whole backstory.  What is interesting (about Bludworth) is that he primarily delivers exposition.  People bring their own sense of mortality in watching.  If you think he’s the angel of death, which he’s not, or the Grim Reaper, which he’s not, that’s what you get out of it.” Nicholas D’agosto on going toe to toe with in his scenes with Tony Todd: “He’s a tall guy, he has a very imposing physical presence.  When he’s Bludworth he plants his feet and looks at you and speaks to you directly and when people do that, you’re intimidated.  When Tony looked at me I blanked out and asked “Um, can I do that again and get my lines right this time?” Emma Bell on the surprising twist to the end of Final Destination 5: “I thought it was great.  Up until that point I thought the film was really good.  The minute we got to the set to film the final scene I thought “Wait a minute!” That’s when it dawned on me.  It’s a great twist and I hope the fans will really enjoy it, because you won’t see it coming.”
