Lil Wayne Explains How Failed Juelz Santana Collabo Became Human Being II

‘ I Can’t Feel My Face has now turned into I Am Not a Human Being, ‘ Wayne confirms to ‘Hip Hop POV.’ By Rob Markman Lil Wayne Photo: Hutton Supancic/ Getty Images It seems like we’ve been talking about a Lil Wayne / Juelz Santana collabo album forever. But when the much-ballyhooed I Can’t Feel My Face will actually drop is anyone’s guess. While Weezy’s 2010 jail stint definitely postponed the project, now Tunechi says when he got home, he reached out to his Dipset buddy to finally put their plans in motion. “I actually got at Elz when I got out and told him, ‘Man, I think it’s time we really capitalize on that,’ ” Wayne recalled to Amanda Seales of MTV’s “Hip Hop POV” in an outtake from last week’s episode. It’s more than six years in the making, but for a time, I Can’t Feel My Face was one of rap’s most-anticipated projects. Now that Weezy has put his legal troubles behind him, it’s Santana who’s facing drama after his New Jersey recording studio was raided in January 2011. “He can’t work how he wants to work because they shut down his studio,” Wayne explained. “I sent him some music and he didn’t send them back in the time-fashion that I work.” Never one to remain idle, Tunechi took the songs that he had set aside for the joint album and repurposed them for his upcoming I Am Not a Human Being II solo LP. “I started putting extra verses on those songs and I’ve moved on,” he confirmed. “Now what probably would’ve been I Can’t Feel My Face, has now turned into I Am Not a Human Being. ” During a June 2011 interview on “RapFix Live,” Juelz gave his own reasoning for the delay. “It wasn’t no one reason it didn’t happen. Me and Wayne always was on the same page, musically, as far as friendship-wise,” he said. “I’m just happy we didn’t let that get in the way of us being cool, being able to do things in the future; we ain’t let it get to us.” Would you still like to see a Wayne/Juelz collaboration album? ‘American Idol’: Who Will Be Crowned On Queen Night?

Where’s Colton Dixon when you need him? We share song suggestions for the top six. By Gil Kaufman and James Montgomery “American Idol” top six Photo: FOX Every year, there’s one “American Idol” theme week that proves to be the equalizer. Sometimes it’s disco night, or performance episodes dedicated to Frank Sinatra, Gloria Estefan, big band or Bon Jovi. Wednesday night’s (April 25) Queen motif could be the one that trips up some of this year’s most promising contenders. What a time to be missing the show’s resident glamo (that’s glam and emo smushed together) rocker, Colton Dixon ! Though both of us are huge fans of the pioneering British stadium rockers, is there any band whose music feels less relevant at this cultural moment? In other words, six seasons after Simon and the gang first took us on a trip down “Fat Bottom Girls” lane, it’s the obvious choice for “Idol” as the show steams — or limps — toward next month’s finale. All snark aside, Wednesday night could belong to Elise Testone, since she’s the only one left who understands the intricate velvety folds of late singer Freddie Mercury’s bombastic voice. Also, if it was up to us, someone would have to do a song from the hugely underrated 1981 soundtrack to “Flash Gordon” (AAAH-AAAH!) but that’s for another time. Of course, as is seemingly required by law, there’s also going to be a second hour of “Idol,” in which the top six will sing a song of their choice (like, it could be anything), so in anticipation of some “Killer Queen” and whatever comes after, MTV News’ resident “Idol” know-it-alls, Gil Kaufman and James Montgomery, are back with their carefully considered song suggestions for the remaining “Idol” hopefuls: Hollie Cavanagh Let’s get it right out of the way: Bottom-three squatter Hollie continues to live on borrowed time. Queen’s music is all about emotion and showy delivery, and the British cowgirl has proven time and again that those qualities are a taller order than, well, her. That said, she could soar with one of the band’s many rich ballads, such as “You’re My Best Friend” or “Somebody to Love.” For her song choice: Mariah Carey ‘s “Hero,” just because. — Kaufman It would be fitting if she did “Another One Bites the Dust,” since she’s probably toast this week. Instead, she’ll do one of Queen’s excellent power ballads, like “Spread Your Wings” or “Save Me” (even though America won’t). As for her other song? I don’t even know where to begin. When she auditioned in season 10, she did a couple of Miley Cyrus tunes, so I’ll just say she does “The Climb” again. Hollie really inspires enthusiasm, if you couldn’t tell. — Montgomery Joshua Ledet Josh has pretty much been able to sing anything thrown his way so far, but Queen could be a serious roadblock. Though their songs have plenty of flavor, it’s not necessarily the gospel-y kind he favors. He should probably take the safe route and put some of his soul on a big ballad like “I Want to Break Free.” If the Queen thing falls flat, he can redeem himself with something young, sexy and firmly in his lane like Chris Brown’s “Beautiful People.” — Kaufman He’s got the pipes — and the burgeoning ego — to take on the entirety of “Bohemian Rhapsody,” but he’d be better served channeling all those vocal histrionics (and craziness) into three-and-a-half minutes of “Don’t Stop Me Now.” And then we could call him Mr. Fahrenheit instead of Mantasia. For his second song, dude, I don’t know. He should just do a Fantasia song again. Any of them. — Montgomery Jessica Sanchez It’s been an up-and-down ride for the once-infallible Sanchez, but she should cruise this week, and I’m going to suggest she go rogue and sing the 1981 David Bowie/Queen collabo “Under Pressure,” which has a dynamic range that could let her show off those pipes. And she has to do Beyonc

‘American Idol’: What Will Jessica Sanchez Sing After Near-Exit?

Gil Kaufman and James Montgomery debate which ‘Then and Now’ hits the ‘Idol’ top seven should tackle. By Gil Kaufman and James Montgomery Jessica Sanchez performs on “American Idol” Photo: FOX The “American Idol” top seven took on current hits last week, and look how well things turned out! Uh, wait, never mind . Anyway, after Jessica Sanchez escaped elimination thanks to the judges’ save (which officially marked the first time this season they’ve actually done something right), “Idol” producers decided to up the ante for Wednesday night’s (April 18) show by letting the contestants sing both a #1 from the past decade — since it worked so well before — and a classic soul tune. Yes, it’s “Then and Now” week on “Idol,” which, come to think of it, is a pretty apt way of viewing the show’s steady decline. It also means we’re going to see the usual front-runners strut their stuff: Sanchez will dominate a Beyonc

Imagine Dragons Go Big With ‘It’s Time’ Video, But Still Eat Burritos

Fast-rising Las Vegas band — MTV PUSH Artist of the Week — premiere first video on MTV. By James Montgomery Imagine Dragons in “It’s Time” music video Photo: Interscope Imagine Dragons have been waiting three years for today: On Tuesday (April 17), they premiered their video for “It’s Time,” the breakout (currently at #17 and climbing on rock radio) single from their Continued Silence EP. The clip represents the first fruits of their new deal with Interscope Records, and, for a band that has taken its time to get to this point, well, they’re definitely enjoying the moment. “We had this idea in our heads for a long time, but, you know, we could never make it,” frontman Dan Reynolds told MTV News. “Until we found a director who could bring it to life. We went out to Barstow [California] — which is between Las Vegas and L.A., and we’ve made that drive many times, because we’re from Vegas — and we shot it on a dry lake bed. It was our first time doing a music video, so it was a really awesome experience.” And while the clip — basically an updated take on the old “Jack and the Beanstalk” tale, with the band starring the band as mystic travelers in a very dark world, carrying a very special parcel — certainly looks cool, it also works as a rather apt metaphor for Imagine Dragons’ rise. Since forming in Vegas in 2009, Imagine Dragon (the current MTV PUSH Artist of the Week ) have been on one long voyage; one that’s certainly had its share of ups and downs along the way. “I remember one gig [where] we were playing a casino, in Vegas, and it was a really small stage,” guitarist Wayne Sermon smiled. “We played a four-hour set — we’d do those two to three times a week — and we were exhausted, and Dan passes out in the middle of the last song, falls on the drum set, the drums go everywhere, and it was horrible, but we finished the song.” “And all these drunk guys were like, ‘Wooo!’ ” Reynolds laughed. “But it didn’t hurt; I was so tired, it was sort of nice to have a little break.” So with their first proper video out in the world, and plans to begin work on their full-length debut already in the works, Imagine Dragons continue to march on. And in that regard, things are still the same as they’ve ever been. “It’s crazy. We’ve been a band for three years, living on the road, eating bean burritos every day, and we’re still eating bean burritos every day, but it’s been incredible to see the support that we’ve gotten,” Reynolds said. “We really owe so much to our fans who, from the very beginning, have been sharing the music. And we live in a world where things can happen so quickly, and we’re glad we’ve had three years to really prepare. … We’ve been doing it for a little while, and it feels good … and right.” Related Artists Imagine Dragons

Kimbra And Gotye ‘Excited’ For ‘SNL’ Appearance

‘Somebody That I Used To Know’ singer Kimbra jokes that she probably won’t appear in any sketches on late-night comedy show. By Jocelyn Vena Kimbra Photo: MTV News Looking for some moody music to set the tone this Saturday night? Well, Kimbra and Gotye have your back. The chart-topping duo are set to perform their heartbreaking track “Somebody That I Used to Know” this week on “Saturday Night Live” as the show’s musical guests. When Kimbra stopped by the MTV Newsroom on Friday (April 13), just one day before her late-night performance, she opened up about the opportunity to hit the stage in the famed studio. ” ‘Saturday Night Live’ is going to be great. I’m really excited,” she said. “We’ve had a few rehearsals. It’s really cool to just get a feel of the whole vibe. I’ve heard such great stuff about the experience. It’s gonna be awesome.” While many musical artists have joined in the fun of appearing in comedy sketches on the show, Kimbra admits she won’t be cracking any jokes this weekend. “Not that I know of! I hope not. That would be fun, but I’m not very funny!” the native New Zealander shared, noting that she’s mostly only watched clips online. “I haven’t seen all that much of the show. I’ve seen little bits here and there. I know Tina Fey used to be on it. It looks so much fun. It’s gonna be great. “I think ‘SNL’ is so well-known for its musical performances, as well, and people really breaking into America through a really great performance on there,” she added. “So I think me and Gotye are both really excited to be amongst such company. You know, it’s great.” This gig is yet another milestone for Kimbra and Gotye as they continue to find small-screen and chart success with “Somebody That I Used to Know.” It was covered on “Glee” and has been featured on “The Voice” and “American Idol.” This week’s “SNL” will be hosted by “Men in Black III” star Josh Brolin . ‘American Idol’ Enters ‘This Decade’: What Should They Sing?

Gil Kaufman and James Montgomery face off on what ‘Songs From This Decade’ the top seven should tackle. By Gil Kaufman and James Montgomery Jessica Sanchez Photo: FOX For weeks, it’s felt like we’ve been screaming into the void. We keep begging “American Idol” to get with the program and borrow a page from rivals like “The Voice” and “X Factor” by having the finalists sing songs that were released in the decades since Randy Jackson played bass for Carlos Santana. It’s a novel concept, we know. Seriously, enough with the Billy Joel and Michael Jackson theme nights! Not another collection of Elton John, disco or Frank Sinatra songs, please! Give us something contemporary, dudes — or at least something that may give our aunt in Virginia pause. Finally, “Idol” producers seem to have heard our pleas and given the top seven a shot at sounding halfway relevant this week with “Songs From This Decade” night. Now, the reality singing gods giveth and they taketh away, so while we’re in mortal fear of hearing Jason Mraz and Train songs, we’re also a bit torn about what is likely to turn into an Adele-valanche. Be careful what you wish for. But we’ll take it. So here’s what songs MTV News’ resident “Idol” experts think the remaining contestants should tackle. They failed to take our advice on last week’s ’80-themed show , and look how that one turned out … DeAndre . Read on for our picks! Joshua Ledet Josh smashed it last week and is once again at the top of his game. But here’s the thing: The guy remains an R&B tabula rasa, personality-wise. It’s hard to see him headlining an arena tour or filming an iconic video. Since we hear he’s way more confident off-camera than on, L-Deezy needs to get a little grimy, and what better way to do that than with Usher’s “OMG”? Or, if he must, I offer a one-time-only Adele dispensation for “Someone Like You.” — Kaufman I see him going one of two ways tonight: Either he embraces his brassy, sassy side and does Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way” — which he’d kill,
