Monsters University Wins Weekend Box Office

Two animated monsters have captured the top spot in the box office this weekend. Monsters University , the prequel to 2001’s  Monsters, Inc. , beat out the other major release,  World War Z , to win the weekend. The Pixar film earned $82 million over the three day period, while  World War Z took in $66 million. Dropping down from first to third,  Man of Steel added $41.2 million to bring its total gross to $210 million. Hit the jump for this weekend’s Top 10: Box office top 10: 1. Monsters University , $82 million 2. World War Z , $66 million 3. Man of Steel , $41.2 million 4. This is the End , $13 million 5. Now You See Me , $7.9 million 6. Fast & Furious 6 , $4.7 million 7. The Internship , $3.42 million 8. The Purge , $3.41 million 9. Star Trek Into Darkness , $3 million 10. Iron Man 3 , $2.2 million
