Kevin Gates Sentenced To 6 Months In Jail For Kicking Fan You may recall a little incident last year where rapper Kevin Gates kicked a young woman attending one of his shows in the chest after she dared to touch his leg during his performance in Lakeland, FL — and it was all caught on camera . Kevin’s legal battle over the incident has been going strong since August 2015. He even tried to use the Florida “Stand Your Ground” law to claim that he was just defending himself from being pulled offstage by Miranda Dixon, whom his defense painted as an overzealous and aggressive fan. However the jury, comprised by six white women, found Gates guilty of misdemeanor battery. What’s interesting is…the judge actually tripled the 60-day sentence requested by the state — opting instead to 180 days with credit for any time served, as well as fines and court costs. Pregnant Native American Mother Of Three Shot Dead By Police Another mentally disturbed woman has been shot dead by police sent to “check on her” and ensure her safety. This time, it was a Native American pregnant mother of three. According to the Seattle Times , 23-year-old Renee Davis had suffered bouts of depression off and on for many years. According to her foster sister, she had texted someone earlier in the night saying that she was having a rough moment. The person she texted apparently called authorities, leading sherriff’s deputies to make a “wellness check” at her home on Muckleshoot Native American tribal lands shortly after 6:30 p.m. Davis’ family has a multitude of questions over what happened next. The Washington Post reports that no one answered the door when officers arrived on the scene. They knocked once more, again receiving no answer…that’s when deputies say they noticed two young children running around inside the home, at which point they entered. They say that is when they discovered Davis with a handgun. Deputies haven’t given further details, but at some point during their encounter with the pregnant woman, police opened fire on her , striking her at least once. She was pronounced dead on the scene. Davis’ sister says she’d never heard of Davis owning a handgun, though she did have a hunting rifle that she used often to hunt elk and deer on the reservation. Davis’ 2 and 3-year-old children were on the scene at the time of the incident. Her other child, age 5, was at the home of a family friend at the time. SMH!! How is it that police are there to make sure this allegedly suicidal woman doesn’t hurt herself…yet end up killing her instead? And with all those babies around? It doesn’t make much sense. Of course, the officers who did the shooting have been placed on paid administrative leave while the matter is investigated. You know the drill… Facebook

Black College Students Graduate With More Debt Than Whites A new study from the Brookings Institution shows that African-American college students graduate with at least $7,400 more in student loans than their white counterparts reports MIC : Four years after graduation, the difference between what white and black grads owe widens to $25,000, the researchers found, precisely at the time when students should be flourishing in the workforce and beginning to pay the loans down. While white graduates owe about $28,000 after four years, black degree holders owe more than $52,700 on average, the study showed. “People need to know about these numbers,” said Judith Scott-Clayton, an economics professor at Teacher’s College at Columbia University and the study’s lead author, in a phone interview. For-profit graduate programs appear to be part of the problem, she said, with 28% of black graduate students in a for-profit graduate institution.
