Source: Alex Wong / Getty Y’all Wack A$$ President is at it again. He spent millions of dollars on a 4th Of July parade in Washington, D.C. that included tanks and war planes and all the reminders that America has killed millions of people in its history. Ah, patriotism. The party was to be fully of his most strident MAGA-loving supporters far and wide. The whole charade was also accompanied by one thing Trump can’t lie his way out of: the wrath of Black Jesus. That’s right. The only explanation for the downpour that ruined Cheeto Dusty’s celebration was a good old-fashioned Old Testament smiting. As a result, 45’s insanely stupid party turned into a big old mess. Oh, also he did this: #TrumpParadeFail God don’t like ugly but hates stupid even more pic.twitter.com/a4grrPWxuf — just ramming the ramparts (@bfree2laugh) July 5, 2019 Yup. He talked about seizing airports…in 1776. Unless Area 51 has some REALLY wild s*** going on, we didn’t have airports to seize in 1776. This was all one big cluster freak and the reactions and clowning of that fool are instantly classic. Source: Suwannar Kawila / EyeEm / Getty 3 Cops Charged With Assault Of 15-Year-Old #JusticeForLucca Justice? That you? We’ve reported on the #JusticeForLucca movement since its inception back in April when a viral video of Broward County, Florida cops attacking the 15-year-old circulated the internet. Today, we get the news that we don’t often get when it comes to cops abusing their authority, criminal charges. According to ABCNews , the three officers involved in the brutality, Gregory LaCerra, 51, and Christopher Krickovich, 29, and 49-year-old Ralph Mackey were all charged. LaCerra and Krickovich were indicted for the physical assault as well as falsifying records in the cover-up. Mackey was charged separately with falsifying records and conspiracy. All three men have been suspended WITHOUT pay. Civil rights attorney Benjamin Crump is representing Lucca’s family and had this response to the happy news: “Wearing a badge is not a license to hurt children and then lie about it — with these charges, the world can now see clearly that is what happened,” the attorneys told WPLG in statement after the charges were announced. “The fact that the officers were charged with falsifying records and conspiracy to falsify records is rare, and it may represent a new trend in accountability for law enforcement officials.” Now let’s just see if the charges stick before we get too excited…

Jenelle Evans is not satisfied. She’s happy, yes. But the disgraced former Teen Mom star has made clear in a new interview that she isn’t about to just sit back and enjoy the time with her recently-reunited family… … because one key member is missing. On Wednesday evening, we were among the first outlets to report that Jenelle and her biogted husband, David Eason, had regained custody of Jenelle’s two youngest kids and Eason’s daughter from a previous relationship. The trio of youngsters had been removed by Child Protection Services after Eason admitted to killing the family dog and a judeg decreed that the controversial couple was not maitaining a safe environment for its kids. This took place on May 28 and Evans had spent the past few weeks in and out of court, fighting for the return of her kids. We recapped yesterday’s custody decision and the preceding scandal below: View Slideshow: Jenelle Evans: I’m Getting My Kids Back! “I am ecstatic to regain custody of my kids back!” Jenelle told E! News shortly after the judge reached his latest decision, adding last night: “Through out this long process and final decision, I am excited to be moving forward and continuing to show America I’m a good parent.” This will likely take a lot of convincing, considering all America has seen Jenelle do and say over the years. But Jenelle told Champion Daily after the hearing that the public has the wrong image of her and Eason, explaining that there’s no proof out there at all that they’re kids are being raised in any sort of dangerous home. “[The judge] didn’t find any evidence against us of neglect or abuse of any sort,” Evans now says. She went on to say that Ensley and Kaiser’s teachers described in court how the couple “were as parents for the past two years,” that this helped paint a positive picture of the couple and: “With everything that was presented as evidence, the judge found that CPS only had ‘hearsay.’ What CPS presented didn’t stand up to the definition of abuse or neglect. “When the judge said her decision it was so ‘matter-of-fact’ tone and blunt that I was in shock but bursted out into tears immediately!” As of 10 a.m. EST on July 4, Ensley and Kaiser were ordered to be returned to Jenelle’s home in North Carolina. What about nine-year old Jace, however? He’s been living with his grandmother (and Jenelle’s mother) for a long time now; Barbara Evans is his legal guardian and Jenelle is only permitted to have supervised visits. (She also recently called 911 to ask for a welfare check on the children living under her mom’s roof.) On a roll with the court now, however, Jenelle says she’s determined to change this arrangement. She noted last night that she’s focused on building a stronger relationship with Jace and is then “planning on getting full custody.” Moreover, Jenelle and Eason are attending “parenting classes and substance assessments” in order to better themselves. Earlier this year, MTV cut ties with Evans following the dog killing incident… but Evans says she is just ready to focus on the improving both herself and her reputation as a whole. “I just want to be home with my kids and hear them arguing, hear ‘Mom, I want a snack,’ or hear ‘Goodnight, I love you,’” she told Champion Daily, concluding: “I missed it so much and so glad to have that back.” For the sake of these very young children, let’s hope she means that.

S torytelling has long since been a rich tradition in the Black community. From the folktales shared by ancestors that have been passed down for generations to the new generation of musicians, poets, and writers, who are capturing their experiences through their artistry; oral traditions within Black culture have been instrumental in the preservation of our narratives. Entrepreneur Mike Coles is on a mission to elevate the storytelling experience, build community and preserve legacies through his app Choose Your Reader . For Coles—a lawyer, screenwriter, and author who was born and raised in Dayton, Ohio—books were often used as an escape. He grew up in a town that was segregated and as a result was bussed to a school on the other side of town during his grade school years. He says that experience forced him to level up and sparked a passion for education. It was during this time in his life where Coles fell in love with reading and storytelling. Amongst some of the earliest books he read—which were given to him by his mother who earned a master’s degree in child psychology—were the Big Red series penned by author Jim Kjelgaard and the books The Call of the Wild and White Fang by Jack London . During his teenage years, he started reading comic books and collected hundreds of them. Fast forward decades later and the passion for stories is something that has been passed down to his son. One evening, while getting his son ready for bed the 3-year-old child asked that Coles tell him a story. While Coles was headed to the bookshelf to grab a book, his son told him that he wanted him to make the story up off the top of his head. His son shared three things that he wanted to be included in the story—a baseball, softball, and golf ball. Coles’ improvisational skills led to the creation of a compelling story; so compelling that his son wanted the same story repeated the following three nights. Then his son began to ask that he add other elements to the story including illustrations. While struggling to find content to bring the story to life, Coles discovered there was a need for apps that featured stories which merged engaging narratives with good illustrations. He then developed the concept for Choose Your Reader in 2016 and decided to move forward with bringing the app to fruition. Choose Your Reader gives individuals the ability to create and voice record stories to share with the children in their lives. Coles started out with the stories that he created for his son and now there are a total of 20 stories on the app; half a dozen of which are in different languages. The app features stories in English, Spanish, Russian, Mandarin, Arabic, and Hindi. Choose Your Reader was created to build a stronger sense of community. “People are becoming less connected and informed,” he told NewsOne. “Thinking about the legacy that individuals can leave behind, we can continue to build upon an oral tradition that is strong within the Black community. We have the ability to leverage the platform to create content and archive it for generations to come.” Source: Mike Coles For Coles, Choose Your Reader is also about bringing diverse narratives to the forefront. He plans on launching a section of the app that will highlight writers of color. Through the app, he’s also helping writers lower the cost of distributing and promoting their content. He says a lot of content creators of color are locked out of the publishing industry due to a flawed economic structure and he wants to change that narrative. Coles is also adamant about increasing the representation of Black protagonists in children’s stories. “Our stories have diversity and importance and are not monolithic. We tell the illustrators that diversity is important. We want to incorporate people of color into nursery rhymes and other stories that have been around for a long time. Nobody said what Little Jack Horner looked like, why can’t he be Black?” As for what’s on the horizon for Choose Your Reader, Coles says he wants to work with schools in underserved communities so they can aid teachers in cutting the costs for schoolbooks and sharing compelling content with students to spark their interest in different fields. The app will also have the capability to track the progression of a reader. He’s aiming to have 100 books available on the app by the end of the year. The app is free through December.
