T his year’s Tony Awards could turn out to be a historic evening for Black women in the realm of dance. According to Forbes , choreographer and artistic director Camille A. Brown & Dancers dance company—is nominated for her work on the play Choir Boy . The play, which was written by Tarell Alvin McCraney , chronicles the experiences of a Black student who leads a gospel choir. Brown intertwined the storyline with powerful forms of dance expression. She says the premise of the play prompted her to pull inspiration from South African dance traditions, Step dance routines, and Juba dance which was started by Africans who were enslaved. “When I was hearing the spirituals [in Choir Boy] I was thinking about the historical context of them because they’re over 200 years old, but then looking at the men [in the cast] and how they are walking in life in 2019,” she told Deadline in an interview. “I told them that this was a time for them to be unapologetic on stage, and to step into what all this means. I told them, you’re carrying this historical information but you’re also carrying who you are. It’s not just about me coming in and putting in steps – there has to be the need and intention, an urgency, this combination of working and moving our bodies in space and having a dialogue.” The award-winning choreographer has had a storied career in the dance industry. She attended Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and the Performing Arts and went on to dance with the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. Brown’s dance company has performed internationally and she has led the choreography for shows that include Once on This Island and Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert! . Brown says being nominated for the Tony Award is meaningful and speaks volumes about the need for more representation in dance and theatre. “When I wanted to do theatre, I didn’t see many reflections of myself. This Tony nomination is so important to me, and has deep meaning, because the last black woman that was nominated in this category was Marlies Yearby in 1996, for Rent ,” she said. “I have I hope that a young black girl who wants to choreograph for theater but doesn’t necessarily see many black females can see a reflection of herself through me.” The 73rd Tony Awards will air on June 9. You Played Yourself: DJ Khaled Is Getting ‘Father Of Asahd’ FLAMED For Throwing Tantrum Over Album Sales

Source: Theo Wargo / Getty Fans Call DJ Khaled “FAKE” After Tantrum Reports Whew chile! Dj Khaled is catching heat after a report exposed how allegedly nasty and rude he was towards his label over his flopping album streams. A source says Khaled stormed in Epic records and with his entourage and was “angry” and “yelling” after finding that his recent album failed to debut at the top of the charts. Reportedly he went on an EPIC rant that turned folks off who work for him. Page Six reports:  ‘He threw a temper tantrum,” blaming the also-ran album placing on his label chiefs’ not understanding streaming services and bundle deals. A second source, who also described how the disappointed DJ did not hold back his displeasure, added, “No. 2 won’t do for Khaled. He was not happy when the album didn’t debut at No. 1 . . . Not happy at all.” An industry insider added: “He was furious. There was some nasty stuff said. Publicly, he’s all about ‘positivity,’ but there is a mean side to him that people don’t see . . . He overhyped the record and blew it up as his biggest album ever.” YIKES! Khaled also posted and deleted a video where he seemingly berated Tyler The Creator’s number 1 album as “mysterious music.” This isn’t the Dj Khaled that folks are are used to online, who likes to preach positivity and folks are calling him out for his salty behavior. so much of @djkhaled 's brand is positivity and wanting/seeing success for others. it's always been about there being room out here for everyone to win until he isn't the one winning…then all the inspirational shit goes out the window. #WeThePressed — Jamal (@JamalJimoh) June 7, 2019 Hit the flip to see how folks are responding to DJ Khaled being seemingly salty over being second best. They’re dragging him!

7-Eleven Shenanigans: Lil Xan Pulls Gun Out After A Man Confronts Him About Calling Tupac’s Music “Boring”

Source: Gina Wetzler / Getty Lil Xan Pulls Out A Handgun During Gas Station Altercation Lil Xan pulled out a handgun and pointed it at a man who confronted the rapper about once calling Tupac “boring,” and now the incident is being investigated by the LAPD. According to reports and video obtained by TMZ , the altercation went down shortly before 10 PM on Friday in a 7-Eleven parking lot near downtown Los Angeles. The person shooting the video says that he asked Lil Xan why he “talked s**t” about Tupac last year in an interview. Things went to a whole new level when the guy called Xan a “b***h,” which is when he started shouting back at the guy, yelling, “What the f**k you want, bruh?? Get the f**k out, n***a!!!” This is when the rapper started flashing what looks to be a semi-automatic handgun as he walked to his Mercedes-Benz SUV with his girlfriend, Annie Smith. Annie joined in, yelling back at the guy, “You started it, you dumb f**k.” As the pair got into their ride, Xan brandished the weapon one more time. They ended up driving off without any further incident, but the guy filed a report with LAPD. As for Lil Xan, he says he only pulled out the gun to protect himself from an attack. He feels like the man was antagonizing him over a comment that was made way back in March 2018. He posted to his Instagram story following the incident, writing, “the media is gonna try and twist what just happened at a gas station, I was about to be attacked and resorted to having to use self defend, f**k all you old head a** b**ches still talking bout that 2pac s**t live your own life And stop picking on a kid.”

Jenelle Evans Shares Unsettling Video of Nugget and Her Kids: What is WRONG with Her?!

Jenelle Evans has made some bad choices in her time. That much is undeniable. We'd be here all day if we tried to recount each and every time she screwed up, so let's just go ahead and say that her biggest mistake in her whole entire life was probably getting with David Eason. Mostly because he's a disgusting human being, but also because during her time with him, he's caused her to continue to make some seriously questionable decisions. You know, like if she'd never married David, then he never could have killed her dog , and he never would have gotten all the kids removed from their care . She probably would have married a different terrible dude, maybe even someone worse than David, but let's just focus on this timeline. Because this timeline is getting real, real bad. After Jenelle and David lost custody temporarily, they managed to hold things together — for a little bit, anyway. But as we saw earlier this week, they simply cannot hold it together anymore. That's why we've seen Jenelle fighting with her mom outside the courthouse in front of paparazzi, and that's why we've seen David flip Nathan off , also in front of paparazzi. These are all just really awful choices for them to be making during this crucial time. If they really want to regain custody, they need to be on their best behavior, and this just is not it. And if all the courthouse feuding wasn't bad enough, Jenelle's gone and released a new video on her YouTube channel that, considering everything, is just downright disturbing. The video, which you can watch in full below, went up earlier this morning, and it's titled “Getting Chickens and Chicks.. FIRST TIME.” Yep, she's still trying to make that “homestead” thing happen . It's not going to happen. So we're not going to go through the whole entire video because it really is mostly about chickens, but there are definitely more than a few interesting bits besides all that. For instance, at the beginning we see Jenelle sitting outside, talking about gardening, and who is sitting beside her, being so good and sweet? Nugget. Believe it or not, Nugget can be seen several times throughout the video, following everyone around because she was a family dog, and that's what they do. What's especially heartbreaking is that most of the time Nugget appears, she's keeping close to the kids, and, of course, not being the least big aggressive towards any of them. Oh yeah, because the kids are there, too — Ensley, Kaiser, Jace, and Maryssa are all heavily featured here. Also heavily featured are the original Eason chickens, many of which are no longer with us since they were killed by Jax, Jenelle's pitbull, because she didn't supervise them and she never bothered to try to train her dog. It's just … it's weird, right? Obviously Jenelle's got a lot of extra free time now that all the kids are gone, so she's just chilling at home, editing the footage from “happier times” when the family was altogether. That's one thing, but the fact that she uploaded this to YouTube and didn't realize how inappropriate it is now with everything that's happened is honestly concerning. And judging by the comments on the video so far, people are very concerned. “Psycho husband,” one person wrote. “Kissing chickens one minute and then shooting his dog the next.” Someone else referenced an already classic comment Barbara made during her fight with Jenelle at the courthouse with “It's a shame how fake this video is as a happy family … your mom's right! 'It's all for the cameras!!!'” “Seriously, I can't believe u post videos like this when u have lost ur kids, ur psycho husband shot ur pet dog!!!!” yet another outraged Teen Mom fan told her. “Totally sick beyond words.” Finally, one person summed everything up pretty well with “What's wrong with you???? You have no business with animals! The only animal you should be concerned with is the one you are married to!” We wish we could say we're surprised that Jenelle made such a poor choice in sharing this, but really nothing she does anymore is all that surprising. Watch Jenelle pretend to have a happy family in the video below:

I Am Mother: Hilary Swank & Clara Rugaard Talk Perfect Humans, Childhood Lies & More

Continued here:

It’s been a minute since we’ve seen Hilary Swank on the big (or small) screen, but the Academy Award winner is back, and has taken her talents to Netflix. ‘I Am Mother’ is an intense thriller science fiction flick starring Ms. Swank, Clara Rugaard and Rose Byrne — who voices the character of Robot Mother. The movie tells the story of female robot in a bunker raising a teenager while giving the impression that the world above is not fit for human life. When a gunshot-wounded woman (played by Swank) arrives at the bunker door, she threatens that idea, calling into question everything the girl was told about the outside world. The girl then start to explore the robot’s nature and discovers the truth of Mother’s greater mission. We caught up with Hilary and Clara as they dished on all things digital, dark and deceptive. When asked about one thing they were taught as children that turned out to be a lie, Clara joked: “Well, the toothfairy! Santa Clause?”  Hilary gave a more in depth response, adding: “I think both of our families are very liberal and open-minded, so they didn’t tell us…” Clara: “…Lies to make us unravel ourselves. But I think parents do things to protect their children.” Hilary: “I think both our parents are like ‘We’re all one people’, ‘Treat people how you want to be treated. That sort of thing” Have you checked out ‘I Am Mother’ yet? Catch the full movie on Netflix, and check out what else the cast of the film had to say in the video above.
