Source: Derrick Salters/WENN.com / WENN Remy Ma and Safaree were supposed to rock an April benefit concert but it appears the pair violated exclusivity terms of their contract and forced a cancellation of the event. The Love & Hip Hop: New York castmates were barred from performing within 60 miles of the Wintrust Arena in Chicago for a period of time but they nixed that part of the agreement. TMZ reports : The Circle Foundation — which mentors Chicago-area youths — is suing the rappers, saying they signed to perform at a fundraising concert back on April 21, 2018, at the Wintrust Arena in Chicago. According to docs, obtained by TMZ, the Foundation was forced to cancel the show after the rappers breached their contracts. The Foundation claims their contracts specifically stated Remy and Safaree could NOT perform within 60 miles of the arena for 30 days before the event. It’s called a “performance exclusivity” clause, and it’s a common practice promoters use to make sure their concerts remain in hot demand. In the suit, the Foundation says the rappers agreed and signed the deal … with Remy getting a $35k deposit payment and Safaree getting $7,250. The problem, according to the docs, is Remy performed on April 8 at the Black Women’s Expo in Chicago — and Safaree played the Rockin’ Horse Saloon & Grill on April 14 in a Chicago suburb. The Circle Foundation is suing for the money it paid out plus damages. Remy Ma’s attorney has responded and promises to look into the matter. Reps for Safaree have yet to comment. — Photo: WENN

Source: Mint Images / Getty via Bossip.com : A middle school teacher in Minnesota has been placed on leave after a video showing her using a racial slur while speaking to students went viral, according to the district earlier this week. Saint Paul Public Schools Superintendent Joe Gothard promised to take aggressive action after footage was posted online of teacher Wendy Brilowski using the N-word toward her Highland Park Middle School students. Brilowski can be heard saying ” f—— n——” in the video, which the district verified as being authentic to NBC News . Another staff member tried to excuse the behavior, saying, “she’s repeating what you’re saying” after the slur was used, but the short video clip does not show any students speaking prior to the teacher’s comments. The district did not provide more detail on the context of what happened before or after the video was taken, but did confirm the incident occurred during school hours. Gothard also apologized in a video to parents, adding that foul and racist language has no place in the district. Email Submit Brandy Coleman, the mother of one of the students, told NBC-affiliate KARE that the video was the boiling point of tensions between Brilowski and her daughter that had been simmering over the past couple of months. According to her daughter, the teacher had previously called her and other students “negroes,” the mother told KARE. “It breaks my heart that I didn’t know the magnitude of the situation so that I could intervene before that video,” Coleman said. Source: Tim Mosenfelder / Getty It can be pretty difficult to watch folks share beautiful photos with their moms or even reminisce about moments with their mother when your mom is no longer here. “Mother’s day can be a very hard day if you’ve lost your mom, or if you don’t have a good relationship with her. if any of you need a mom today i’m happy to be that for you, I love you all”- @HolyShnitt But don’t fret. According to Jane Greer, Ph.D., a New York-based marriage and family therapist: “It can be really, really hard to go about celebrating the day, especially if you’ve recently lost your mother,” she tells us. “And I recognize that. But it’s so important to do so. It’s so important to continue to celebrate your mother and her spirit, and to realize that even though you won’t be together in a physical sense this year, she’s with you in spirit.” It may not be the easiest thing to do, but there are plenty of ways to navigate Mother’s Day without a mom. Greer added: “It can be incredibly helpful and calming to engage in an activity that you and she used to do together, especially if a sentimental location is involved. If you used to celebrate by taking her out to brunch at a favorite local spot, continue ordering her beloved blueberry pancakes. If you used to frequent a certain coffee shop together, head back there today and drink a cup in her honor. Remind yourself that her legacy lives on in all of these things.” Whatever you decide, just know that this Mother’s Day, you are not alone and an extra prayer goes up for you today. “Happy Mother’s Day to the sisters who take care of their siblings almost as much, if not more than their mom, your family would be lost without you.” @Heartile “Happy Mother’s Day to all my beautiful friends. Hope you get to do whatever you want to do today! Also for those of us who have lost our beloved mothers, hugs and I feel they are always with us. Their smile, their guidance, their love” @LondonGal_28 If you’re a motherless child this Mother’s Day, try to indulge in things that lift your spirits and honor your beloved mommy. And don’t think for a second that people have forgotten about you on this day. Let Tupac Shakur ‘s sweet message to the motherless carry your spirit on this special day!

A 60-year-old grandmother from Philadelphia is living proof that it’s never too late to chase your dreams. A few years ago, Rhonda E. Davis made it a priority to go back to school and get her college degree and she went above and beyond her goal by not only earning two degrees from Cheyney University but graduating as the institution’s Class of 2019 valedictorian, Philly.com reported. This 60-year-old Philly grandmother lived in the dorms at Cheyney. Now she’s the Class of 2019 valedictorian. | Inquirer https://t.co/k2T2BtqLVG — Philly Inquirer (@PhillyInquirer) May 10, 2019 The commencement ceremony was a culmination of a long journey for Davis. Pursuing her education was no easy feat. Davis’ mother had her at the age of 16. She was the oldest of six children and once she was a teenager she had to start working to help provide for her younger siblings. Her education was ultimately put on the back burner. Davis eventually started a family of her own and once her kids got older and her husband started working with SEPTA, she wanted to try something new and believed that education was the answer. After telling her husband that she planned on going to college to earn her degree, he decided to leave her. The lack of support didn’t stop the grandmother of 11 from going after what she wanted. She was awarded a scholarship through Cheyney University’s Keystone Honors Academy. Davis left her Southwest Philadelphia house and lived on campus where she became a source of inspiration for many of her fellow students. She would often tutor other students and give them advice about staying on the right track. At Cheyney, Davis displayed academic excellence. She earned a degree in graphic design and one in fine arts and finished with a 3.97 GPA. Her children and grandchildren were all in attendance at her commencement ceremony and her mother live-streamed the event from her Virginia Beach home. For Davis, the graduation was a full circle moment. She visited the HBCU in the 70s and loved the school. As for what’s on the horizon for Davis, she plans on growing her jewelry box business and creating children’s books. Her educational journey isn’t coming to an end anytime soon. Davis wants to pursue her master’s degree in fine arts. She hopes that her story inspires others to take charge of their lives. “Nothing changes, if nothing changes,” she said during her speech at the graduation ceremony. “You have to be the person who initiates that change.” SEE ALSO: West Point Makes Black History With Its 2019 Graduating Class Mother Surprised With Degree At Son’s College Graduation [ione_media_gallery src=”https://newsone.com” id=”3852506″ overlay=”true”]
