Tragic news today out of the music industry: Justin Carter, a rising country artist, died this week due to an accidental shooting that took place in Texas. He was 35 years old. According to a local ABC affiliate, Carter passed away after a prop gun (being used as part of a music video shoot) went off in his apartment. Mark Atherton of Triple Threat Management, with whom Carter had recently signed, told ABC13 in Houston of the late singer: “Justin had a potential to, you know, in our eyes, and a lot of people’s eyes to be the next Garth Brooks.” The sad news went public on Thursday but a message was shared on Carter’s Instagram page on March 17 that reads as follows: Please Keep Justin’s Family In Your Prayers & Give Them Privacy In This Hard Time. Justin Is No Longer With Us, He Has Passed Away. He Will Be Missed By Us All. He Was Always Full Of Joy, Laughter, And Loved On So Many People In His Life. Justin Appreciated All His Fans And Their Support. Justin Loved All Of You. Thank You All For Your Support! Carter’s mother also spoke to ABC11, telling the outlet of her son: “His music was his world. He was always there for everybody.” She added in a separate interview with Fox News: “He was a wonderful artist. He was the voice, he was the total package and we’re trying to keep his legend [alive]… He just loved music, he was very gifted and by God, his voice was spectacular.” Atherton, meanwhile, added that he “doesn’t know too many details” about the accidental shooting — except that, as previously mentioned, it occurred during production of a video. He also described his new client as “kind of like the class clown, but when it was time to get down to business, he got down to it.” On his official Facebook bio, Carter listed Waylon Jennings, Hank Williams, Clay Walker, Garth Brooks and George Strait among his favorite artists. This same profile also says that Carter’s passion came from “the sound of old country, and he clings to that feeling he gets when he hears it and tries to push that into his music.” Carter, according to that page, had just finished his solo album. Over a six-month period, he wrote, produced and recorded over 30 songs. While Pastor Gray assured fans it was only an “emotional” affair, recently discovered audio recordings paint a different picture. A woman, who remains anonymous, detailed a relationship with John Gray during an interview with Larry Reid , in that was surely not just emotional. According to the woman, John Gray booked her room in the same hotel as his wife one time, but Aventer had found out. He left the woman a voicemail warning her Aventer had read their text messages. The nameless woman also claimed John Gray would speak in tongues after ejaculating over facetime. She also revealed they indeed had sex. John Gray and the woman were reportedly friends for years, but their friendship changed after the woman went through a domestic violence incident that left her vulnerable. “It started with him—he likes to say—breathing life into me. So he was just there as far as talking to me, pretty much pastoring me, ministering to me. And I called on him to do a favor to a person that I knew that was struggling with some addiction issues. And so I called upon him to help with that. It was an employee of mine. That employee actually wound up speaking with him and it got him on the straight and narrow. So I sent him a text message telling him thank you. And he said, ‘Whatever you need.’ And I was like ‘Well thank you.’ And he said, ‘I’m talking about you.’ John Gray allegedly offered her financial help when she fell on hard times. “He would say, ‘The Lord told me that you need some money so go ahead and check your cash app. I already put money in your account. Then he’ll be like, ‘What color panties you got on? Let me see your nipples.’ … He likes to jack off on the screen and he comes and when he comes, he speaks in tongues. No joke. When we slept together, he jumped up!” He also allegedly confided in her about he and Aventer’s marriage and claimed she didn’t sexually satisfy him. “I ran into an issue financially and he was just like absolutely. and it was a big deal. It was a really big thing. From that moment on, it started from there. It snowballed into ‘I just love you so much. I always loved you. I always thought about you. I always cared about you.’ Then he was going through the stuff with his wife and he was saying how he didn’t like her, didn’t love her, that he was never attracted to her, that he only married her because she looked good on paper. His exact words were, ‘She don’t suck. She don’t f*ck. She ain’t never washed a pair of my drawers.” The woman also had voicemails of what seemed to be John Gray’s voice. “When you get this message, delete it. My wife saw our text messages from Friday. She knows you were in the same hotel as me and she does not know that I went to your room. She doesn’t remember me leaving. She’s got your number,” he said. This woman’s narrative was completely different from John Gray, who simply said he was inappropriate because he carried on an “emotional” affair. Clearly there’s more to the story. Derick Dillard has a reputation for saying truly hateful and idiotic things on social media. The most famous example, of course, is Derick’s transphobic tirade against fellow TLC star Jazz Jennings, That rant got Derick fired from Counting On but apparently, it didn’t teach him to refrain from courting controversy on the internet. In addition to his presence on Twitter and Instagram, Derick sometimes takes to his family’s webpage in order to blog about his beliefs. His latest post, entitled “Confessions of a Christ-Seeking Millennial” is receiving quite the mixed reaction from fans — which is probably just what Derick wanted. “If you’re married (to a Christian or not), ‘the one’ is always going to be who you are married to. My ‘one’ is always Jill Michelle Dillard,” Derick wrote. That’s certainly an innocent — and even laudable — sentiment, but for many readers, Derick’s insights went off the rails shortly thereafter. Derick discussed his life as a series of “calculated risks,” and to the surprise of many, he listed marrying Jill Duggar as one of those risks. We suppose that’s the case with every marriage, but for many readers, it came as a shock that Derick articulated that thought. He went on to surprise fans further by encouraging them to “settle” rather than holding out for their ideal partner. “If you aren’t married, don’t wait for a perfect person because you’ll just die single,” Derick wrote. As far as Duggar ideas about marriage go, this one is fairly non-controversial. There’s a school of thought which holds that the idea of a “soul mate” is absurd, and single people should focus on building healthy relationships, rather than seeking out flawless mates. But coming as it did in the context of a blog post about his life and marriage, many took Derick’s comments as an indication that he believes he settled for Jill. That’s probably not what Derick meant — but then again, the man likes stirring up controversy, so who knows?
