Oprah Just Bagged Dirty Dopin’ Liar Lance Armstrong For 90 Minute ‘Next Chapter’ Interview

Think he’ll tell the truth ? Via The Hollywood Reporter : It will be the first interview the disgraced cyclist has done since he was stripped of seven Tour de France titles over doping allegations. In the 90-minute interview, which will take place at Armstrong’s Austin, Texas, home and air Jan. 17 at 9 p.m., Armstrong will address the alleged doping scandal, years of accusations of cheating and charges of lying about the use of performance-enhancing drugs throughout his storied cycling career. It is another coup for Winfrey, who has landed a succession of high-profile interviews for her still-fledgling OWN network. Her sitdown with pop singer Rihanna, who talked about her sometimes abusive relationship with Chris Brown, was watched by 2.5 million viewers on Oprah’s Next Chapter. And her March exclusive with Bobbi Kristina, the daughter of the late Whitney Houston, pulled in 3.5 million viewers and is still the most-watched telecast for the network. Armstrong has been an elusive target for news organizations throughout the years-long investigation into doping on Armstrong’s U.S. Postal Service cycling team. He has denied claims by former teammates that have detailed his alleged doping scheme including public and strenuous denials surrounding details in a May 2011 report by 60 Minutes. He has been banned for life from cycling and cannot compete in events sanctioned by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency and the World Anti-Doping Agency including triathlons. He has so far refused to appear on camera for any of the myriad TV news stories that have detailed cheating and an alleged pattern of sometimes ruinous legal action against his accusers. But now Armstrong is said to be weighing admitting to the use of performance-enhancing drugs as part of a long-term strategy to rehabilitate his athletic career. Disclosures could come with some legal jeopardy since Armstrong has denied blood-doping or using banned substances in some legal proceedings. And representatives for Armstrong denied a Jan. 4 New York Times report that said Armstrong was in touch with the USADA. Armstrong attorney Tim Herman told the Associated Press: “When, and if, Lance has something to say, there won’t be any secret about it.” Already there is speculation that Armstrong’s admission could come during his interview with Winfrey. Representatives for OWN would not say whether Winfrey has interviewed Armstrong yet. Meanwhile 60 Minutes Sports, the Showtime spinoff of the CBS News program, will air a report Wednesday that says a representative for Armstrong in 2004 attempted to donate $250,000 to the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency, the same agency that last year found that Armstrong and his team had used illegal substances. Armstrong has refused repeated requests for an interview from 60 Minutes. Is this a PR stunt or do you think he’s really trying to open up? Images via tumblr/facebook

R.I.P.: 12 Stars We Lost in 2012

A look back at this epic year in celebrity news would not be complete without reflecting upon some of the brightest stars who said goodbye to us in 2012. Here are 12 of the most notable pop culture figures – from singers to actors to authors and even historical figures – who passed away this year: Donna Summer – Last Dance 12. Donna Summer , disco’s queen, became synonymous with an entire genre of music with hits like “Love to Love You Baby” and “Last Dance.” 11. Ray Bradbury was an author ahead of even his sci-fi time. 10. Jenni Rivera . The popular Mexican singer-actress was taken from us – and her family – far, far too soon this month in a tragic plane crash. 9. Larry Hagman . Dallas star was the original TV villain. 8. Mitchell Guist . The Swamp People star attracted an enormous following thanks to his reality show, and the reaction to his passing was immense. 7. Nora Ephron ‘s screenplays – When Harry Met Sally, Sleepless in Seattle – have been often imitated but never duplicated in modern cinema. Phyllis Diller Standup 6. Phyllis Diller hilariously made herself the butt of her own jokes, but more importantly shattered the glass ceiling of comedy over a decades-long career. 5. Don Cornelius ‘ Soul Train didn’t just provide great music, it empowered a black audience and informed a white audience in a vast cultural experience. 4. Steve Sabol may not be a household name, but the NFL Films founder forever changed the way we watch the most popular sport in America. 3. Neil Armstrong & Sally Ride , the first man on the moon and first woman in space, were both pioneers outside of our atmosphere and inspirations on Earth. 2. Dick Clark may not have invented popular music, the American teenager or New Year’s Eve, but he left an indelible mark on all of the above. Whitney Houston National Anthem: The Best Ever 1. Whitney Houston ‘s final years were not what millions of fans would have hoped for, but her legacy and the power of her voice never diminished. These are just a dozen of the memorable figures we bid farewell to, of course. Share the names and memories of these and others you will miss below!

They Turn Us On, Dammit! Movieline Critic Alison Willmore’s Top 10 Overlooked Gems of 2012

This December is heavy with major movies — Zero Dark Thirty ,  This is 40 ,  The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey ,  Django Unchained and  Les Misérables — that are literally (use the bathroom first) and metaphorically big. As they dominate the year-end conversation, it seems like a good moment to to call out some films that may not earn many mentions at award shows and top ten lists, but nevertheless charmed, entertained or impressed me throughout the year. 1. Indie Game: The Movie This fascinating documentary about the relatively new world of independently made video games follows the maker of an established hit, a team preparing to debut their work and a guy who’s been toiling for years on something that’s still not finished. It’s a look at the ambitious far reaches of a medium that’s been dominated by the equivalent of blockbusters for most of its existence, and at what it means to strive for something personal and artistically inclined in a world just learning to appreciate those qualities. 2. Keep the Lights On Ira Sachs’ film about the ups and downs of a decade-long romance is based on his own relationship, and has the sting of the personal in the way it tracks how the needy Eric (Thure Lindhardt) and the drug-addicted Paul (Zachary Booth) support, hurt and enable each other. It’s a painfully honest look at how we can keep returning to the things we know are bad for us, and what it takes to finally pull away. 3. Sparkle Yes, it comes with the baggage of featuring an unhappy, exhausted-looking Whitney Houston in her last role and serving as the acting debut of  American Idol  winner Jordin Sparks . But  Sparkle  is an interesting, complex consideration of African American womanhood and what it means to be good and to be a success. And Carmen Ejogo , as the troubled and talented oldest sister, is an outstanding find — she’s magnetic even as she’s embraces destruction. 4. Sound of Noise A heist movie in which the goal is not to steal but to make music: This Swedish comedy is built around four outrageous and inventive movements in a piece performed a group of anarchist artists who unlawfully invade a hospital room, a bank, a plaza and a power plant to make themselves heard . It’s weird in the very best way. 5. King Kelly Shot on iPhones and consumer-grade cameras posing as them, this film about a camgirl and her adventures on July 4th is a damning portrait of self-documentation as narcissism, and worse, as a way of using the Internet to justify your behavior and your appeal. Between her online following and her fawning best friend, Kelly (Louisa Krause) has surrounded herself with people who tell her how great she is. She blocks out anyone who disagrees, although it becomes apparent that she’s as much at the mercy of pandering to her “fans” as she is empowered by their adoration.
