Bobby Brown Trusts Bobbi Kristina Won’t Repeat His Mistakes

‘She’s smart enough to not go down the same road that I did in the past or her mother did in the past,’ he tells MTV News. By Rob Markman, with reporting by Sway Calloway Bobby Brown Photo: MTV News Bobby Brown is no stranger to controversy. Though there are always rumors and speculation surrounding the Bad Boy of R&B, Brown is very clear about one thing: his love for Bobbi Kristina , his daughter with the late Whitney Houston . “That’s my baby girl. She’ll forever be my baby girl. She’s doing what she’s doing, and I’m extremely proud of her,” Brown told MTV News correspondent Sway on Tuesday (May 29). “She’s acting and she’s working on music and she’s doing what she has to do to recover from her loss — our loss.” The New Edition singer is readying the release of his first solo album in 14 years. The Masterpiece, as he titled it, is due out June 5 and will come four months after the death of his ex-wife. It has been tough for Bobby and his daughter. In February, the same month her mother passed away, Bobbi Kris was rushed to the hospital and treated for anxiety. There have been reports of drug abuse, but her dad chalked it up to just a phase. “Any parent that has a teenager in their life, they go through things. They go through phases that they might not be doing exactly what you want them to do in life, but they grow out of it, and my baby girl has grown out of it,” he said confidently. “I trust and believe that she’s smart enough to not go down the same road that maybe I did in the past or her mother did in the past. She’s extremely smart.” Brown insisted that there is nothing that can come in the way of his love for his daughter, not even rumors that she wants to change her last name to Houston to distance herself from her pop. “She can’t change her last name, her name is her name. She’ll forever be known as Bobbi Kristina Brown. There’s no changing that, there’s no taking that back,” he assured. The hardened singer simply gushed, thinking back to the Billboard Music Awards when his baby girl gave a speech honoring her mother. “I saw her speech and, of course, she’s just beautiful, you want to keep looking at her,” he said proudly. Ray J: Almost Booted Out of Billboard Music Awards By Whitney Houston’s Family!

Ray J was almost physically removed from the Billboard Music Awards last night after an angry confrontation with Whitney Houston’s family members. Pat Houston, Whitney’s sister-in-law/manager, was seated next to Ray J, the person Pat believes was a very bad influence on the late music legend. Minutes before a tribute to Whitney, in which Jordin Sparks sang and Bobbi Kristina Brown accepted an award, Pat asked her security to nix Ray J. After Whitney’s ex-BF refused to budge, Pat’s security summoned hotel security, along with several uniformed officers to physically remove Ray . Just before it got ugly, security warned Pat that things would likely get physical and it would almost be caught on video, just as Whitney was to be honored. Sources say Pat then grudgingly recanted and Ray J stayed. Later, Ray reportedly complained to friends about the incident, saying “Pat ruined what was a great opportunity to honor the woman who I loved.” A rep for the Houston family later admitted they did ask Ray J to be moved from his seat because Billboard told them they needed that particular seat. Ray J had a ticket with the proper seat number, so he refused to budge, and security was called, but the Houstons deny any lingering feud with Ray. In related news (not really), Kim Kardashian is the hottest woman in the world , according to Zoo Weekly . She can thank Ray for that glorious title. [Photo: WENN.com]

Chris Brown Performs at Billboard Music Awards; Fans Divided Over Obvious Lip-Syncing

Chris Brown brought his BMX skills to the Billboard Music Awards Sunday. His vocal skills? Mmmnot so much, from the looks of the performance. The singer rode onstage in Las Vegas to perform his high-energy hit “Turn Up the Music” against a colorful, bike ramp backdrop dubbed the “Fun Zone.” Breezy’s leopard fur-lined jacket (open to show off his muscular, tattooed chest, obvi) and impressive dance moves wowed the crowd, but his singing? Chris Brown – “Turn Up The Music” (Billboard Music Awards 2012) Fans on Twitter were disappointed, at least in part, for Chris’ lip-syncing. Some viewers tweeted sentiments like, “What’s the point of performing live if you’re gonna lip sync? You should just become a back up dancer.” “I don’t mind Chris Brown lip synching… at least he PERFORMS !!!” wrote one fan in defense of Chris. “CB performance never disappoints.” The event, which also featured Justin Bieber’s performance and Jordin Sparks’ tribute to Whitney Houston, certainly featured the big names. What do you think of Chris’ performance? Thumbs up or down?

Billboard Music Awards Remember Whitney Houston, Robin Gibb

Show also pays tribute to late legends Adam Yauch and Donna Summer. By Jocelyn Vena Jordin Sparks performs “I Will Always Love You” at the Billboard Music Awards on Sunday Photo: Ethan Miller/ Getty Images While the Billboard Music Awards were full of upbeat moments, thanks to highly charged performances from Justin Bieber , Katy Perry and more chart-toppers, the show also was somber at times, paying tribute to some of the music industry’s brightest stars who died in the months before Sunday’s (May 20) broadcast. While Whitney Houston had the glitziest of the tributes, other late legends from all musical genres also mourned at the show. Right before the broadcast, the tragic news of Bee Gee Robin Gibb’s death broke. The pop star died at the age of 62 after a lengthy battle with cancer. While his tribute was short, it was also very sweet, with “Modern Family” star and host Julie Bowen saying, “His voice and the music of the Bee Gees will live on forever.” Just two days before Gibb passed, the Queen of Disco, Houston’s untimely death in February , comedian Whoopi Goldberg said in her introduction, “I adored Whitney Houston. What all performers want and need and should get is love, and many of us here loved Whitney, and even if you’re one of those who didn’t show the love to Whitney, now is your chance, because tonight, that’s what we’re doing: We’re going to be giving Whitney the greatest love of all.” Then, John Legend sat at his piano to perform Houston emotional, uplifting ballad, “Greatest Love of All.” Jordin Sparks — Houston’s co-star in her final film, “Sparkle” — handled Houston’s legend-making “I Will Always Love You.” Dressed in a flowing blue and black gown, the singer belted out the track, while Whitney’s daughter, Bobbi Kristina, sat in the audience crying. As the song wrapped, Whitney’s sister-in-law Pat Houston and daughter accepted the Millennium Award in her honor. “This is truly an honor. We thank you, Billboard ; we thank you, Whoopi, Jordin; we love you, John. But tonight, the one person that should be accepting this award is the one person that Whitney loved most.” “I just really want to say thank you to everyone who supported us through it all,” Bobbi Kristina added. “Thank you so much for showing that much love, ’cause she deserved it. There will never be another one, ever. I thank you so much.” The outpouring of love and emotion didn’t end there. Adam Yauch, MCA from the Beastie Boys , who died May 4 from his own battle with cancer , also was remembered. Top New Artist winner Wiz Khalifa said during his acceptance speech that the Beasties took hip-hop to new levels. “I just want to thank the Beastie Boys, and we will never forget MCA.” Later on, Cee Lo Green and Goodie Mobb may have been there to perform their own track, “Fight to Win,” but afterward, Cee Lo told the room to get their asses up for their own spirited homage to MCA with “(You Gotta) Fight for Your Right (To Party).” Share your condolences for the four late musical legends in the comments below.
