Lil Boosie Murder Trial: Jury Selection Begins

Rapper is accused of first-degree murder in a 2009 shooting. By Rob Markman Lil Boosie Photo: MTV2 Seven hundred potential jurors have been summoned to a Baton Rouge, Louisiana, court and 12 will be selected to decide the fate of underground rap star Lil Boosie . The jury selection for Boosie’s murder trial began Monday (April 30), and rather than the normal 500 Baton Rouge residents who are summoned for jury duty each week, an extra 200 have been called for the high-profile case, WAFB News is reporting. Boosie (real name: Torrence Hatch) is facing a first-degree murder charge for the 2009 shooting of Terry Boyd. Prosecutors are alleging that the rapper ordered the hit on Boyd from behind bars, but through it all, Boosie has maintained his innocence and pleaded not guilty to all charges in June 2010. At the urging of the prosecution, the judge is allowing the MC’s lyrics to be brought up in trial claiming that specific words in his songs equal intent. The defense attorneys are, of course, refuting such claims. Though it has been widely reported, the death penalty is not on the table if the rapper is found guilty, according to WAFB. The murder trial is just another bullet point in the rapper’s list of legal troubles. In November 2011, Boosie Bad Azz pleaded guilty to three counts of conspiring to smuggle drugs into Louisiana’s Dixon Correctional Center and Angola State Penitentiary and was sentenced to eight years behind bars. During an interview from behind bars in May 2011, the Trill Entertainment rapper told XXL magazine he was being unfairly targeted by the justice system. “[I’m here] ’cause of the songs I made, before I was indicted, about the police in Baton Rouge and what’s going on here,” he said. “There’s a lot with our record label that the system don’t like. … They took my hard drive out of my house after I got arrested. I have albums for days in there. They still haven’t returned it. They’ve had it for damn near a year now. I need that music.” Lil Boosie first rose to prominence with his 2006 debut album Bad Azz and scored his biggest hit in 2008 when he was featured on Lil Webbie’s 2008 #1 Billboard rap single “Independent.” Related Artists Lil Boosie

Will Amanda Bynes Go to Rehab?

Amanda Bynes has agreed to lay low after her agent and manager ordered her to stop being a fixture of the Hollywood nightlife scene. Is a trip to rehab next? As has been widely reported, Bynes was arrested for DUI after she hit a police car, then returned the next night to the same club she went to beforehand. She was then involved in another traffic incident last week. As she keeps on partying (and some say crashing), friends are urging the star to go to rehab. “Amanda has been in a downward spiral for six months. Even though her dad publicly said she doesn’t drink he knows she has a problem,” says a friend. As a source told The New York Post , “She is not the same girl. She just does whatever she wants. Friends are concerned; it’s not the Amanda they know.” “It’s truly sad to witness. She is refusing to go [to rehab].” Says another alleged source close to the situation: “Amanda was just going out without thinking after her DUI arrest. She was spotted texting and driving and just putting herself in really horrible situations.” “Amanda’s agent and manager have ordered her to lay low and avoid clubs. She desperately wanted to go to Coachella last weekend and she has been told not to go the second weekend of the festival, but she is an adult.” “It would just look very bad if she were to go against her advisers and end up going to Coachella. She has promised that she won’t go and she hasn’t been spotted at any nightclubs in almost a week, which is a beginning for her.” In any case, Amanda did agree to lay low … as far as we know. Perhaps the comparisons to another troubled Hollywood starlet finally struck a nerve? “Amanda thinks its extremely unfair that people are calling her the new Lindsay Lohan,” says a source. “Comparisons between the two are just ridiculous as Amanda has never been arrested for drug possession or for stealing anything.” “Yes, she got arrested for a DUI, but that doesn’t mean she is headed down the same road. Amanda doesn’t harbor negative feelings towards Lindsay, she doesn’t even know her, she just thinks it’s sexist that the two are being compared.” “Men in Hollywood that get arrested for DUI don’t face the same scrutiny that women do; that really irks Amanda. She isn’t taking the DUI lightly.”

It’ll be quite the moment if the rap newcomer crosses paths with veteran MC Juvenile , who will also be in the studio. Juvie began his career as the shining star on Birdman’s Cash Money Records. His 1998 LP, 400 Degreez, was a pivotal hip-hop album and ultimately established Cash Money as a musical force to be reckoned with. It spawned singles like “Ha” and the rump-shaking “Back That Azz Up.” Juvie left CMR in 2002 and has largely carried on by himself. He dropped his last solo album, Beast Mode, in 2010 and earlier this year released his Mardi Gras mixtape with DJ Smallz. Now you can’t have a party without DJ Khaled . Since 2006, the Miami representative has been carving his lane as a hitmaker. On his debut LP, Listennn… the Album, Khaled paired artists like Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, Jadakiss and Beanie Sigel on high-powered collaborative cuts. He successfully improved on the formula through the years and has delivered with hit records like “I’m So Hood” featuring T-Pain, Rick Ross, Trick Daddy and Plies, as well as last year’s inescapable single “I’m On One” with Drake, Ross and Lil Wayne. Khaled’s latest track, “Take It to the Head,” partners Chris Brown, Rick Ross, Lil Wayne and Nicki Minaj on a single track. His sixth studio album, Kiss the Ring, is due later this year. Tupac Hologram May Be Coming To An Arena Near You

Visual-effects house behind the 2-D image tells Wall Street Journal that Dr. Dre has a vision beyond Coachella for his virtual friend. By Kara Warner Tupac’s hologram at Coachella Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images Tupac Shakur has made quite an impact on pop culture since his death in 1996, so we shouldn’t be too surprised that his eye-popping and downright magical materialization at the Coachella music festival on Sunday night alongside Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre is dominating the headlines. The spectacular surprise has caused such a stir that there’s a chance we might be seeing a lot more of this “new” Tupac very soon. According to a Wall Street Journal interview with Ed Ulbrich of Digital Domain Media Group Inc., the visual-effects house responsible for making the rapper’s image (as well as the virtual versions of Brad Pitt in “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button”), there are plans to take the 2-D image on tour. (Although ‘Pac’s ghostly figure has been widely reported as a hologram, Ulbrich told the Journal that its technical description is a 2-D image and not a hologram, which is 3-D.) Moving forward with discussions of a tour are representatives for Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg who, according to a source close to the project, will be meeting to discuss the logistics involved in scheduling a string of performances with the virtual Tupac. The report cites one option would be to tour in stadiums and involve other hip-hop stars like Eminem, 50 Cent and Wiz Khalifa. Another option is a limited tour that would only feature Dre, Snoop Dogg and the virtual Tupac in smaller arenas. “We worked with Dr. Dre on this, and it was Dre’s vision to bring this back to life,” Nick Smith — president of AV Concepts, the San Diego company that projected and staged the image — exclusively told MTV News on Monday (April 16). “It was his idea from the very beginning and we worked with him and his camp to utilize the technology to make it come to life. … You can take their likenesses and voice and … take people that haven’t done concerts before or perform music they haven’t sung and digitally re-create it.” “This is not found footage. This is not archival footage. This is an illusion [and] this is just the beginning,” Ulbrich told the Journal. “Dre has a massive vision for this.” Do you want to see virtual ‘Pac in concert? Weekend Receipts: Why You Shouldn’t Cry For John Carter Just Yet

Everything went pretty much according to plan at the box office over the weekend: Scurrilous liberal plot The Lorax indoctrinated enough kids and families to reign over a second consecutive week, while Disney’s super-expensive sci-fi gamble John Carter settled somewhat anemically into second place. But it’s not all bad for our boy on Barsoom. Your Weekend Receipts are here. 1. Dr. Seuss’s The Lorax Gross: $39,100,000 ($121,950,000) Screens: 3,746 (PSA $10,438) Weeks: 2 (-44.3%) The year’s biggest hit to date achieved that distinction in nine days, as opposed to roughly three full weeks for the likes of Safe House and The Vow . And there was even one less hour this weekend. Summer is here! Break up The Lorax ! 2. John Carter Gross: $30,603,000 (new) Screens: 3,053 (PSA: $4,487) Weeks: 1 Right or wrong, the widely reported $250 million (at least) price tag will precede any and every conversation regarding John Carter as long as people are talking about John Carter . Which may be longer than the sluggish domestic gross implies — though not that much longer — if the rest of the world has anything to say about it: Andrew Stanton’s epic took in nearly $70 million abroad , including the fourth-highest debut ever in Russia. The takeaway remains relatively grim: No blockbuster status is foreseen, but at least the unprecedented write-down foreseen at Disney may not be that bad. Happy Monday? 3. Project X Gross: $11,550,000 ($40,125,000) Screens: 3,055 (PSA $3,781) Weeks: 2 (Change: -45.1%) Not a remarkable hold, but considering the competition both above and below it &mdash plus the long-ish tails of several of the year’s bigger releases to date — Warner Bros. will take it. The only question remaining: What’s the threshold to greenlight the sequel? 4. Silent House Gross: $7,010,000 (new) Screens: 2,124 (PSA $3,300) Weeks: 1 Here is a conversation sure to have ensued in roughly 750 theaters screening the very soft-performing Elizabeth Olsen thrller: Viewer 1: “That doesn’t look like Ryan Reynolds.” Viewer 2: “When does Denzel show up?” Viewer 1: “Are we in the right theater?” Viewer 3: “Shhhh!” [Throws popcorn] 5. Act of Valor Gross: $7,000,000 ($56,100,597) Screens: 2,952 (PSA $2,372) Weeks: 3 (Change: -48.4%) Slowly, inexorably, probably futilely, Relativity continues to push its Navy SEALs experiment toward $100 million theatrically. Look for a special St. Patrick’s Day weekend campaign pushing Act O’ Valor : “Erin go BLAM,” “Kiss me, I shot Osama bin Laden in the face,” etc. Or… not. [Figures via Box Office Mojo ] Follow S.T. Nude Star Amanda Seyfried Now in Talks for Lovelace Role

We can’t imagine why so many actresses have been attached to the role of Linda Lovelace in the upcoming biopic Lovelace – after all, it’s not every day you get offered the role of (literally) the biggest cocksucker in history. Nevertheless, it’s been a regular revolving door over at the offices of Lovelace, LLC. First Kate Hudson dropped out to have a baby, and then Olivia Wilde dropped out, apparently for no particular reason, after it was widely reported she would be playing the role. (Meanwhile, Swedish star Malin Akerman remains attached to a rival project, Inferno: The Linda Lovelace Story ). Now Olivia’s nude Alpha Dog (2006) co-star Amanda Seyfried has begun negotiations to play the skinfamous porn star, which is slappy news for skin fans. Amanda may be young, but she’s already proven herself more than willing to strip down on screen, even winning an Anatomy Award for Best Lesbian Scene for her cougar/kitten encounter with Julianne Moore in Chloe (2009). Let’s just hope that, like the floors of a porno theater, this one sticks. Bone up on your skinema history with Linda Lovelace and Deep Throat (1972) right here at MrSkin.com!

T.I. Returns To Halfway House

Tip set to be released from the facility on September 29, lawyer confirms to MTV News. By Rob Markman T.I. (file) Photo: Moses Robinson/ WireImage T.I. is halfway home. After being sent back to a federal lockup on August 31 — just as he was making his way via luxury tour bus to a post-jail facility — T.I. has now been cleared to finish the remainder of his 11-month sentence in an Atlanta halfway house as originally intended. On Thursday (September 15), the rapper’s lawyer, Steve Sadow, told MTV News that Tip is currently in the halfway house, where he will remain until September 29. If all goes according to plan, the ATL rapper will have completed his current prison bid for a probation violation that stems from a September 2010 arrest for drug possession . “[T.I.] went through a disciplinary hearing held before the ‘Center Disciplinary Committee’ (composed of Community Corrections-halfway house-staff) who recommended that he be returned to the halfway house,” Sadow confirmed in an emailed statement. “We have good reason to believe that this favorable result was reached because of the pro-active and assertive approach taken to protect T.I.’s rights by providing [Federal Bureau of Prisons] officials and the media with reliable and accurate information that T.I. did not intend to violate his transfer furlough or any other [Federal Bureau Prisons] rules en route from the prison facility in Arkansas to the halfway house in Atlanta,” Sadow told TMZ. “T.I. will be released from the custody of the [Federal Bureau Prisons] on September 29th, and then will be supervised by the U.S. Probation Office for a period of one year.” Last month, the B.O.P. allowed Tip to provide his own transportation from the Arkansas prison where he was being held to the aforementioned Atlanta halfway house. The Trap Muzik MC’s decision to ride in a luxury tour bus was widely reported as the reason he was sent back to prison; several sites said the bus was deemed an unacceptable mode of transportation. Upon his arrival at the halfway house, T.I. was taken back into federal custody. Last week, TMZ published an incident report that clarified why T.I.’s first trip to the halfway house was actually cut short. According to the report, T.I. was on the bus last month with his wife, his manager and two VH1 producers. His manager and the television producers, however, were not authorized to be aboard the vehicle. The document also suggested that T.I. was conducting business during the interstate ride — a violation of his furlough. Still, Sadow contended that his client hadn’t violated any previous agreements and that the disciplinary committee agreed. Related Videos MTV News Extended Play: T.I. Lindsay Lohan Due in Court For Probation Hearing

The troubled actress could be headed to jail if judge rules against her on Tuesday. By Gil Kaufman Lindsay Lohan Photo: Scott Wintrow/ Getty Images Lindsay Lohan is due in court on Tuesday (July 6) for a probation revocation hearing that could land the once promising actress in jail again. According to The Associated Press, Lohan will appear before Judge Marsha Revel in a Beverly Hills, California, courtroom following the revocation of her probation in May, after she missed a scheduled hearing. The actress, who was traveling overseas at the time for the Cannes Film Festival, blamed her absence on a lost (or stolen) passport. While Lohan’s skipped court appearances and failure to comply with all of the terms of the sentence stemming from her 2007 DUI case have reportedly irritated the judge in the case, it’s possible the prosecutor could seek remedies other than additional jail time for the troubled 24-year-old starlet . The AP reported that Lohan could either be allowed to remain free, in which case she will likely begin work on her much-discussed biopic of porn star Linda Lovelace . Alternately, she could be ordered to jail, in which case she would be taken into custody immediately. It was not clear at press time what her potential sentence might be. Lohan was sentenced to three years probation in 2007 after pleading guilty to two misdemeanor counts of being under the influence of cocaine and no contest to two counts of driving with a blood-alcohol level above 0.08 percent and one count of reckless driving. The plea followed two widely reported arrests earlier that year. She spent a total of 84 minutes in jail in that case. Her probation was extended by a year in October after she failed to fully complete court-mandated alcohol-education classes. Lohan is currently sporting an alcohol-monitoring anklet Judge Revel ordered her to wear in May after she missed a court date due to the passport snafu; Revel also scheduled Tuesday’s hearing at that time to determine whether Lohan had violated her probation. TMZ reported that Lohan, in anticipation of Tuesday’s hearing, spent part of her Fourth of July weekend in alcohol-education classes in an effort to meet her class requirements. Lohan’s SCRAM bracelet was set off after the “Mean Girls” actress attended an MTV Movie Awards afterparty, which in turn prompted Revel issue a warrant for Lohan’s arrest and double her bail to $200,000 . But Lohan’s attorney downplayed the incident, saying her. client had not had a drink . Do you think this should be the last chance for Lindsay Lohan? Share your thoughts in the comments. Jake Pavelka-Vienna Girardi Interview Takes Over The Bachelorette, Defies Comprehension

Last night’s episode of The Bachelorette was essentially scaled back to an hour and 15 minutes to make room for the Jake Pavelka-Vienna Girardi smackdown. This left us with two thoughts: 1. This could easily be a one-hour show every week, and 2. This interview was likely the greatest 45 minutes in show history. There were so many ridiculous comments made and insults traded, The Hollywood Gossip has devoted a separate Bachelorette recap to their joint interview. Our traditional Bachelorette rundown will follow shortly. Now, for the blow-by-blow of the much-hyped reunion that followed the Breakup of the Century … Introducing the segment on a somber note, venerable host-pimp Chris Harrison pretends not to be ecstatic this fell in ABC’s lap. What a great job. Plus 8 . Jake comes out to tell “his side” first. Jerry Springer -esque. Minus 4 , if only because a screaming audience and/or chairs thrown would have enhanced this. Oh, if you have this on DVR, have one person do a shot every time she says “fame whore” and another take one every time he says “undermined.” Plus 10 . After Jake Pavelka says he was “blindsided” by the split, Vienna Girardi alleges “emotional abuse.” Hard to tell who’s lying more in the early going. Minus 3 . He seems genuinely surprised, even now, that Vienna is trashy and not that smart. Plus 4 , because 10 million viewers knew this on his season’s premiere. We’ve never been big fans, per se, but when Jake starts being all condescending about text messages, her family, her dog, etc., we feel bad for V. Minus 7 . Vienna, on Jake complaining that she remeasured their room: “I never picked up a tape measure. I never picked up a tape measure in my life.” Plus 12 . For whatever reason, they bleep out Gregory Michael’s name, even though Vienna’s alleged cheating with Gregory Michael was widely reported. Minus 18 . That story about Jake throwing the GPS into the back seat was pathetic and disturbing, but Minus only 5 , because you know how guys are about directions. Asked by Chris what they loved about each other, Jake says Vienna “challenged him.” Plus 14 , because he definitely just became ” the biggest fake liar ever.” Jake: “I believe there is more to relationships than sex and intimacy.” Like updating one’s Twitter and going on as many reality shows as possible. Minus 9 . Near tears and vehemently denying Jake’s accusations of her “flings with other men,” Vienna asks Chris if she can take a “poly-o-graph” test. Plus 1,000 . How the HELL does Chris keep a straight face? Plus 7 . When she interrupts Jake, in the midst of apologizing no less, he raises his hand in rage (not quite making a fist , but close) and berates her. Minus 250 . As she storms off in tears, Jake just shakes his head condescendingly. “There she goes again.” How would these two EVER work as a couple?! Minus 40 . Minus 200 more , because as entertaining as this was, these morons both need to go away forever now … and we have a strong suspicion they won’t. Wow. We always knew Jake was an uptight stiff, but we didn’t peg him for a misogynistic a$$hole. We can’t believe we’re saying this, but … Team Vienna? TOTAL: +524 . Whose side are you on?
