Reacting To The Newest Episode Of Lost: "Happily Ever After"

Desmond Hume delivered one hell of a Lost episode last night. “Happily Ever After” may not have delivered the same emotional one-two punch as “The Constant,” but Desmond episodes have a tendency to arrive just as viewers are beginning to become frustrated with certain mysteries — Desmond is here to calm your fears. “Happily Ever After” accomplished that goal, providing a context and reason for the sometimes interesting, sometimes eye-rolling flash sideways sequences that have dominated half of nearly every episode of Lost ‘s final season. Thank you for your help, Desmond. Here’s what we thought of the latest episode of Lost , “Happily Ever After.” 1) So, I was mostly right: the flash-sideways sequences now have meaning, thanks to the Desmond’s revelations in “Happily Ever After.” The flash-sideways will continue to be the prevailing narrative device to accompany the present Island timeline, but from this episode forward, it seems they’ll have a very clear, very direct purpose in attempting to convince everyone from Oceanic 815 that something happened, something they did. Sounds a little bit like what Benjamin Linus was tasked with by Ms. Hawking and Jacob, doesn’t it? Both Jack and Desmond have a certain look in their eyes now, as though they’re consciously aware of the reason they’re on the Island now. We’ve been given a glimpse at what that is, but those guys are hiding someone from us. Are Jack and Desmond the new Jacob and Man in Black? 2) It’s unclear how much each side of Desmond knows. Does Desmond in the flash-sideways know everything about what’s happening on the Island, or only the existence of another timeline? In “The Constant,” Desmond’s mind was actually swapping between the two existences. He was fully in control of himself and able to bring memories of each experience back to the other timeline. We aren’t given an indication that’s happening in “Happily Ever After.” Clearly, Desmond comes back to the Island after the experiment with a newfound purpose, but is that because he experienced everything that we watched, or something else? 3) Ms. Hawking made a triumphant return to Lost and, naturally, she threw things for a loop. At this point, she’s the only one who seems to know what’s really going on. Desmond, Charlie and Jack seem to have pieces to the puzzle, while Hawking is aware of the consequences. She wants to push Desmond away from connecting with Penny. Is that because it would throw off the timeline? Do things need to happen for other things to happen? Well, clearly, but what are those things that need to happen? Surprise, surprise: we’re in the dark on these answers. Charles Widmore does not seem to be aware of what’s happening, though. Why is his wife? Joseph Baxter, Got His Blackberry Fried By Widmore’s Giant Magnet Thingy: 1) I think the creative team actually had good instincts in anticipating when viewers would get fed up with the sideways and might start to bail if they weren’t finally told why they’re watching it. Last night, the sideways was finally codified as something was relevant to the events in the original timeline on the Island. With just one revelation, the concept they devoted about 50% of the season’s screen time has finally had its existence justified. As a fan, I feel I have been assured that investing interest in this storyline was indeed worth my time and will pay off. Even the “Fugitive Kate 2.0” stuff somehow seems legitimate now. Whereas I was previously scared that taking the sideways road would only lead to a cheap Patrick Duffy in a shower, “It was all just a dream” swerve. I can confidently tackle this aspect of this show, knowing that it’s all relevant. Did I mention that I was happy with this revelation? 2) If there was such a thing as mandated quotas for out-of-context homoerotic innuendo, then I think “Happily Ever After” more than met them. Whether it’s Minkowski creepily leaning over Desmond asking, “You looking for some company?” or Daniel pulling Desmond out of his limo to ask him (a complete stranger) “Do you believe in love at first site, Mr. Hume?” It seemed no accident and Desmond reacted accordingly. You almost expected him to say “Uh, sorry brotha, ah don’t swing that way.” After the second time, you’re kind of left wondering if someone was pulling your leg. This is a small point, but the thing about Lost

Sophie Monk in a Bikini for Ralph Magazine of the Day

I don’t understand Sophie Monk, but I really don’t understand how these men’s magaziens stay in business. Seriously, even when I was younger, dumber and they were considered innovative back when they first hit I couldn’t really figure out what the fuck the point of them was…. The whole idea of content targeted to the average dudes was just too fucking homo…the only thing to make the closet cases feel less gay about reading the shit was the pictures of the half naked chicks that were only worthy of jerking off to if you were stuck somewhere without access to actual porn. The whole thing was obvious, bullshit, not interesting and seriously for the average moron male and I’m not a fucking intellectual here, I’m just not a fucking retard… So when I see shit like Ralph, I get frustrated knowing it’s made a lot of people rich….but when I see that they got Sophie Monk in a bikini, I can ignore that fact, not because it’s worth jerking off to, or even that great, or even exciting knowing that she’s trying as hard as she can to stay in the shadow of the limelight she almost got into but it is better than lookin at my wife in a bikini….

Answers We Want From The Next Episode Of Lost: "Happily Ever After"

If there’s something better than a John Locke or Benjamin Linus episode of Lost , it’s a week following our intrepid brother from another time traveling mother, Desmond Hume. Yes, the cliffhanger from last week marked the long awaited return of Desmond not just to the Island but to Lost itself. Desmond has been missing in action, despite the actor’s name appearing in the credits all season long, and there’s good reason to believe Desmond is back for good this time around. And to screw things up. Here’s what we’re expecting from tonight’s Desmond-centric Lost

Sandra Bullock Denies Jesse James Sex-Tape Rumors

‘There is no sex tape,’ actress says via statement. By Jocelyn Vena Jesse James and Sandra Bullock Photo: Jon Kopaloff/FilmMagic Rumors are swirling on the Internet that Sandra Bullock made a sex tape with her estranged husband, Jesse James, and some fans are clamoring to see it. However, Bullock strongly denies that such a tape exists. “There is no sex tape,” she said in a statement to People.com . “There never has been one and there never will be one.” Shortly after Bullock won an Oscar in March for her role in “The Blind Side,” several women came forward to speak about alleged affairs they had with Bullock’s husband of nearly five years, TV personality James. Since then, Bullock has canceled a number of high-profile appearances, including several “Blind Side” premieres abroad. James has since released an apology and even entered rehab for “personal reasons.” In his apology to his wife and his children from two former relationships, James said, “I am truly very sorry for the grief I have caused them. I hope one day they can find it in their hearts to forgive me.” On Monday (April 5) in New York City, James’ former “The Celebrity Apprentice” boss Donald Trump spoke to MTV News about James’ alleged infidelity. “Well, he self-destructed. Jesse really self-destructed,” Trump said. “He was on ‘The Apprentice’ and he did a really good job. He’s a tough guy. He’s very sullen, but he’s tough. But he really did self-destruct and I can’t imagine after what he’s been with and what he’s done that he gets Sandra back.” Related Photos The Evolution Of: Sandra Bullock

25 dead in W.Va. mine blast, worst since 1984

ONTCOAL, W.Va. (AP) – Four coal miners were missing after an explosion that killed 25 and poison gases blocked rescuers Tuesday from resuming their search in the worst U.S. mining disaster in more than two decades. Rescuers began drilling three deep holes to vent methane and carbon monoxide from the mine so that search teams can go back in. But it will take until evening to get the first hole done and see if the mine air will allow re-entry , Gov. Joe Manchin said. The blast rocked Massey Energy Co.'s sprawling Upper Big Branch mine, about 30 miles south of Charleston, Monday afternoon. Manchin said at an early morning news briefing that while drilling on at least one of the three holes was slated to begin soon, it would take perhaps 12 hours before the drilling was complete and rescue teams could be sure of their safety in the mine, meaning the search wasn't expected to resume before 6 p.m. “It's going to be a long day and we're not going to have a lot of information until we can get the first hole through,” Manchin said. The drills need to bore through about 1,100 feet of earth and rock, he said. “All we have left is hope, and we're going to continue to do what we can,” Kevin Stricklin, an administrator for the federal Mine Safety and Health Administration, said at a news conference. “But I'm just trying to be honest with everybody and say that the situation does look dire.” Though the cause of the blast was not known, the operation run by Massey subsidiary Performance Coal Co. has a history of violations for not properly ventilating highly combustible methane gas, safety officials said. Stricklin said officials had hoped some of the missing survived the blast and were able to reach airtight chambers stocked with food, water and enough oxygen for them to live for four days. However, rescue teams checked one of two nearby and it was empty. The buildup of toxic methane gas _ a constant problem at the mine _ and of carbon monoxide prevented teams from reaching other chambers, officials said. A total of 31 miners were in the area during a shift change when the blast happened, officials said. Some may have died in the blast and others when they breathed in the gas-filled air, Stricklin said. Eleven bodies had been recovered and identified, but the other 14 have not, said Manchin, who returned to the state after being out of town. Names weren't released publicly, but Manchin said three of the dead are all members of the same family. “Everybody's just heartbroken over this and the impact on these families,” said mine safety director Joe Main, who was headed to West Virginia. It is the most people killed in a U.S. mine since 1984, when 27 died in a fire at Emery Mining Corp.'s mine in Orangeville, Utah. If the four missing bring the total to 29, it would be the most killed in a U.S. mine since a 1970 explosion killed 38 at Finley Coal Co., in Hyden, Ky. After a record low 34 deaths last year, Main said he and others believed coal mining had turned the corner on preventing fatal accidents. “There's always danger. There's so many ways you can get hurt, or your life taken,” said Gary Williams, a miner and pastor of a church near the southern West Virginia mine. “It's not something you dread every day, but there's always that danger. But for this area, it's the only way you're going to make a living.” Benny R. Willingham, 62, who was five weeks away from retiring, was among those who perished, said his sister-in-law Sheila Prillaman. He had mined for 30 years, the last 17 with Massey, and planned to take his wife on a cruise to the Virgin Islands next month, she said. “Benny was the type _ he probably wouldn't have stayed retired long,” Prillaman said. “He wasn't much of a homebody.” Prillaman said family members were angry because they learned of Willingham's death after reading it on a list Massey posted, instead of being contacted by the company. “The families want closure,” Manchin said at a news conference. “They want names … these families are good people. Hard-working people. They understand the challenges. Right now I told them to do what they do best. Love each other and come together as a family.” Manchin said the explosion was massive and that the situation looks bleak, but that miracles can happen and pointed to the 2006 Sago Mine explosion that killed 12. added by: jandreola

Donald Trump Says Jesse James ‘Self-Destructed’

‘I can’t imagine after what he’s been with and what he’s done that he gets Sandra back,’ Trump said of former ‘Celebrity Apprentice’ star. By Jocelyn Vena Donald Trump Photo: George Napolitano/FilmMagic When Jesse James appeared on “The Celebrity Apprentice” last season, he was fired by “boss” Donald Trump. And Trump believes that the same fate will befall him in his relationship with Oscar winner Sandra Bullock as a result of his alleged affairs. “Well, he self-destructed. Jesse really self-destructed,” Trump told MTV News on Monday night on the Dressed to Kilt red carpet in New York City. “He was on ‘The Apprentice’ and he did a really good job. He’s a tough guy. He’s very sullen, but he’s tough. But he really did self-destruct and I can’t imagine after what he’s been with and what he’s done that he gets Sandra back.” Further addressing James’ reported affairs, Trump added that it seems likely that he and Bullock will go their separate ways. “I don’t think he can get Sandra back,” he continued on the red carpet. “I would imagine that Sandra’s had it with everything’s that happened. I don’t think he can get Sandra back.” So, what about that other famous guy who reportedly cheated on his wife? Does Trump think that Tiger Woods can repair his image and his marriage? “Well, Tiger can be repaired by winning,” he said. “And he will win.” Since news broke of James’ alleged infidelities, Bullock has canceled several high-profile appearances and James checked into rehab for “personal issues.” James also has issued an apology to his superstar wife about the allegations. “There is only one person to blame for this whole situation, and that is me,” he said. “It’s because of my poor judgment that I deserve everything bad that is coming my way. This has caused my wife and kids pain and embarrassment beyond comprehension and I am extremely saddened to have brought this on them. I am truly very sorry for the grief I have caused them. I hope one day they can find it in their hearts to forgive me.”

Tiger Woods Mistresses Just Can’t Quit Him

Two of the dozen or so women Tiger Woods nailed while he’s been married to Elin Nordegren say he hurt them badly, and they want an apology too dammit! “It still hurts every time some girl comes out and claims that they had this relationship that I had,” poor Jaimee Grubbs whiled in an interview with E! News. “He hasn’t even tried to call to explain or to see how I’m feeling.” LOL. You’re upset the world-famous athlete who was just using you for no-strings sex while cheating on his wife hasn’t sent you a Hallmark card? Really, J? Jamie Jungers also identifies herself as collateral damage from the actions of the sex-crazed madman, even saying she “fell for” the 14-time major winner. “When you fall in love with somebody, they’re always going to be in your heart,” she said, “especially when I hear people bashing him and saying the things they do. Even though he did me wrong, to hear all the hurtful things, it tears me up inside.” Wow, did it just get really dusty in here, or is it just us? Jamie Jungers (left) and Jaimee Grubbs just can’t let go . “I do still have a place in my heart for him. I always will, but I could never trust him again,” Jungers continued. “The more I was with him, the more I fell in love with him. Thinking about it now, I definitely wanted him to leave his wife.” Well, at least she’s honest. Jamie Jungers also said that Woods even had a nickname for her – “his little coffee cup” – which she doesn’t know the origin of. Probably because his relationship with her was like grabbing a cup of coffee (in this case a quickie) on the road to something better. Hey, just one theory. In any case, at Tiger Woods’ press conference Monday, he confirmed that his wife would not be at The Masters this week. Some people wanted more info. Among them? Joslyn James, Tiger’s porn star mistress who recently leaked his vile text messages and says he owes apologies to the women he’s wronged. “He is not truthful, not honest and he should be repairing relationships,” James said. “He was not sincere. He’s a big, fat liar and we deserve the truth.” And money and fame. They’d settle for those too .
