The seating cards are being placed inside the Nokia Theatre in sunny Los Angeles as producers work to put the finishing touches on Sunday’s 2011 Video Music Awards . So what types of match-ups have they thought up this year? MTV News’ Jim Cantiello investigated and found out some tasty tidbits. “Tony Bennett: This guy is a baller, and whoever is behind him is going to have the craziest contact high,” he teased of the 85-year-old crooner, who will pay tribute to the late Amy Winehouse at Sunday’s show. So who snagged that seat? Wiz Khalifa, naturally. Kim Kardashian will also be in the house as a presenter, but Jim wondered: “Where’s her husband at? Her husband doesn’t get a seat card. You thought when you marry Kim Kardashian you’d instantly get more famous. Dude, you’re still not famous enough to get your own card at the VMAs,” Jim warned the newlywed. His advice? “#DealWithIt.” “This is going to be a very rowdy section at the VMAs Sunday night,” Jim said as he made his way through the theater. “This is the land of Odd Future. Now, there are like 100 members of Odd Future. I’m only seeing three cards. So sorry, Hodgy, you’re not invited this year.” When Jim noticed there were some potato sacks lying around, he had a thought: “Here at the VMAs, we are prepared for anything in the audience, so if Lady Gaga wants to have a potato-sack race with Lil Wayne, we got them covered.” Of course, Justin Bieber and girlfriend Selena Gomez are seated next to each other. Jim, however, knows how to make it even more adorable. “The only thing that would make this cuter is if Maru the cat was trying to get in between them,” he suggested. Green Day Debut Amy Winehouse Tribute Song

In addition to giving some very lucky fans a peek at some fresh tracks they are working on for their next album, the trio also unwrapped “Amy,” a brand-new tribute to late singer Amy Winehouse. The touching, unplugged-style tune dedicated to the “Rehab” singer, who died at age 27 last month of as-yet-unexplained circumstances , alludes to Winehouse’s troubled life and her signature fashions with evocative lyrics. “Amy, is your heart singing out of tune/ Are your eyes just singing the blues/ Dirty records from another time/ Some blood stains on your shoes,” go the opening lines, according to lyrics posted on the band’s official website . A scratchy bootleg recording of the song features singer Billie Joe Armstrong crooning the 1950s-style doo-wop tune over gently picked electric guitar. “No one really knows about your soul/ And I barely even know your name/ Burning rhythms and posting lies/ For a bunch of fools drown in shame/ Amy don’t you go/ I want you around/ Singin’ woah please don’t go/ Do you wanna be a friend of mine?/ Did you tattoo a lucky charm/ To keep you out of harm’s way?/ Warding off all evil signs/ But it never really kept you safe.” The final bit laments Winehouse’s premature death and substance battles with the lines, “You’re too young for the golden age/ ‘Cause the record bin’s been replaced/ 27 gone without a trace/ And you walked away from your drink.” The song ends with the emotional image, “May I have this last dance/ By chance if we should meet?/ Can you write me a lullaby?/ So we can sing you to sleep.” Green Day are the latest artists to pay tribute to Winehouse, a list that also includes U2 , Coldplay and M.I.A. In addition to “Amy,” Green Day also previewed a number of other new songs during a full set of unheard tracks, including “Nuclear Family,” “Carpe Diem” and “Sweet 16.” “Thanks everyone for coming out to the show Thursday night and supporting us and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation,” the band wrote on its site. “We have been in jamming and writing new songs for the last few months. By Gil Kaufman Amy Winehouse Photo: Carlos Alvarez/ Getty Images Amy Winehouse ‘s father, Mitch, made another trip to the late singer’s Camden, England, apartment this week, where fans have kept vigil since the news broke on Saturday that the “Rehab” singer had passed away at age 27. After greeting those supporters on Monday and thanking them for their kind words and offerings to his troubled daughter’s memory, Mitch , along with Amy’s mother, Janis, brother Alex and boyfriend Reg Traviss, came by on Thursday to remove some of the singer’s private effects from her apartment. Read what experts say about the negative effects of the type of instant fame Winehouse received. Mitch surprised some of those gathered outside by handing out a few of Amy’s clothes and accessories, including several tank tops, sunglasses and other trinkets, according to The Sun. “There are Amy’s T-shirts. This is what she would have wanted — for her fans to have her clothes,” he told the stunned fans, as he walked away with a pair of Winehouse’s signature ballet shoes in his back pocket. “God bless Amy Winehouse,” he said before hopping into a taxi. The family also carted off some other possessions, including Amy’s guitars and her lyric books. We explore what Winehouse’s musical legacy will be, beyond “Rehab.” Some of Winehouse’s pals and family got together to celebrate her life at her favorite jazz club on Thursday night. Her divorced parents were joined by Traviss and friends that included Kelly Osbourne and Eliza Doolittle at the Jazz After Dark club in London’s Soho district. Also on hand was producer Mark Ronson, who paid tribute to his muse during a concert the night before, when he performed a selection of Amy’s songs. See Winehouse was innovative, legitimate and had fucking soul…She could have taken the whole fame thing to the next level, but instead was cool about shit, and not some dying for attention, holding on as hard as she can, trying to get noticed, popstar joke who is ugly as fucking shit, and should get arrested for indecent exposure for her wardrobe for attention choices she makes, but I’d be much more satisfied if it was her who died. While her loved ones stopped to mourn her passing, Vibe magazine stopped the presses. With an already-scheduled Kelly Rowland cover on its way to the printer, editor in chief Jermaine Hall paid homage to Winehouse with a second cover for the mag’s annual August/September “Juice” issue. Hall said he wanted to capture Winehouse’s beauty on the cover, and he and his team considered 40 different photos before finally deciding on a classic black-and-white portrait shot by Mischa Richter in 2008. “We had literally 36 hours to pull it off.
