Wiz Khalifa Calls Rick Ross’ ‘Super High’ Remix ‘A Blessing’

‘It was a good look for me,’ Wiz tells Mixtape Daily of Ross’ co-sign. By Shaheem Reid Wiz Khalifa The O.D.: A Mixtape Daily Exclusive Wiz Khalifa and his partner Curren$y aligned forces with Rick Ross for “Super High (Sativa Remix),” and the Spiff TV-directed viral video came out this week. “That was a blessing, dude,” Wiz said about the collaboration. “Ross just kept it G, dawg. He seen my movement, he seen Curren$y’s movement. He recognized what we do together, but he recognized us as individuals as well as a team. He reached out in a real way. Spiff [TV] called us. I think he reached out to Spitta first. Then Spiff, he reached out to me. I was still on another leg of my tour. So as soon as I got done with the last leg of my tour, soon as I got home, I went straight to the studio and knocked out the verse, sent it to Ross. He was like, ‘I love it. I’m flying you out next week. We doing the video.’ ” “Yeah, you know, I’m VP, A&R over at Maybach Music Group,” said Spiff, who has known Wiz for years. “Ross called me and said he’s putting together a remix and he wants Wiz and Curren$y. So I reached out, sent them the track the next day, and they did their thing. They came to ATL, Ross knocked his verse out the next day. I shot the video to Wiz and Curren$y via Twitter.” “It came together on some G sh–,” Wiz said. “Ross is hella talented. Everybody knows Spitta’s the best. It was only right we do that sh–.” Wiz said the Ross co-sign is his biggest yet. “It was a good look for me, because hasn’t been nobody really big, anybody who’s as influential in the game right now as Ross is saying, ‘I really f—s with Wiz,’ or, like, been seen on camera with me. That was a big power move for the both of us.” Aside from Ross, Wiz — who’s still trying to figure out when to release his Cabin Fever mixtape — and Curren$y still want to put out a mini-film based on their How Fly tape. “We always gonna be working. There’s never not gonna be something going on with me and Spitta,” Khalifa promised. “People can look for music. He just called me the other day. He’s about to drop his album, which is amazing. I’m working on my sh–. Then whenever we decide to get back together and do what we do, I think [the Taylor Gang and the Jets] gonna be right here waiting for us.” For other artists featured in Mixtape Daily, check out Mixtape Daily Headlines or follow the Mixtape Daily team on Twitter: @shaheemreid and @mongosladenyc . Snooki ‘Got Stuck Under A Four-Wheeler’ On ‘When I Was 17’

‘Jersey Shore’ star Nicole Polizzi reveals her tomboy past on the latest episode. By Jocelyn Vena Snooki appears on “When I Was 17” Photo: MTV News “Jersey Shore” star Nicole Polizzi is better known as Snooki these days, but back in high school the MTV reality darling was a bit of a tomboy. And on the latest “When I Was 17,” the TV star admitted that she had one dangerous and scary incident while four-wheeling. “So growing up [I was] very into, like, four-wheelers, snowmobiles, snowboarding,” Snooki recalled in this week’s episode, which also features “Dawson’s Creek” star James Van Der Beek and N.E.R.D. frontman Pharrell Williams. It seemed that her love of four-wheeling got her into a little bit of trouble. “So one day, I was 17, and my girl came over and we decided to go four-wheeling,” she said. “So me and her are driving on the road and I pass this really hot senior’s house. He’s outside watering his plants with his shirt off.” This obviously caught Snooki’s attention. Her pal Stephanie added, “It was this guy that we all thought was gorgeous and, of course, Nicole got distracted.” “I turned my head,” Snooki further explained about the incident. “And I noticed that I’m going into this bank [at] 20 miles per hour [and] ran into the bank. The four-wheeler tumbled three times. My girlfriend jumped off [and] skinned her knee. You could see her knee bone and I got stuck under the four-wheeler. I couldn’t move anything just because I looked at this boy because his shirt was off.” “When I Was 17” — this week featuring Snooki, James Van Der Beek and Pharrell Williams — airs Saturday at 11 a.m. on MTV.

Freddie Gibbs’ ‘Tailor-Made Flow’ Makes Him A ‘Hottest Breakthrough MCs Of 2010’ Candidate

Fans decide our ‘Hottest Breakthrough MC of 2010′ — vote now! The winner will be revealed on July 25. By Shaheem Reid Freddie Gibbs Photo: MTV News “Hottest Breakthrough MCs of 2010” Candidate: Freddie Gibbs Of course Freddie Gibbs wants to get a little paper, but he’s still giving away whole bodies of work for free. His fans should be familiar with his mixtapes Miseducation of Freddie Gibbs, Midwestgangstaboxframecadillacmuzik and The Labels Tryin to Kill Me, and the buzz around those projects have him in the running for “Hottest Breakthrough MC of 2010.” He introduced us all to his forceful baritone and Midwest flow. In the next couple of weeks, he’ll drop his Str8 Killa, No Filla Mixtape (July 29) and the Str8 Killa EP (August 3). “I been giving my fans the music with the Miseducation of Freddie Gibbs and Midwestgangstaboxframecadillacmuzik. I had so many projects with nothing for sale,” the Gary, Indiana, MC said of the EP; he did note that the EP will have several records the mixtape doesn’t, such as “Oil Money” with Bun B, Chuck English, Chip the Ripper and Dan Aurbach. “I just wanted to throw something in stores that people who ain’t on the Net can grab,” he said. “Really, you’re getting 25, 30 songs for $8. Get the mixtape first and try it before you buy it. If you wanna support, you can support.” Gibbs’ first release from Str8 Killa is “National Anthem.” ” ‘National Anthem,’ all I was really doing was documenting my personal struggle, the things I’ve been dealing with,” he said. “The struggle, that rebellion is a theme that everybody can relate to. I used my tailor-made flow.” Gibbs said the follow-up record is called “Face Down”: “Straight gangster sh– for the clubs and the streets.” “The whole process, man, it was just me taking my time doing what I wanted to do musically,” he added about the tape. “Getting creative, making my sh– sound more like an album than a mixtape. I look at dudes like 50 Cent. His mixtapes was sh– that sounded like records. Even if he was rapping on other people’s beats, he made them his own. I studied him, and I put my own flavor and came with the Str8 Killa. It’s going to jump me off like Trap or Die did for Jeezy. ” Str8 Killa is gonna blow your mind, he added. “The world kinda got A.D.D. right now. You gotta keep fresh material. With me putting out a body of work, it works in my favor. I want people to fall in love with me as an artist. I don’t want one song to be bigger than Freddie Gibbs. People get attached to one song with dudes, then when they done, they throw them out the window. I want the people to really fall in love with me. That’s why I put out good, structured bodies of work.” Freddie and 19 other up-and-coming MCs are in the running to become MTV News’ “Hottest Breakthrough MC of 2010” — and the winner will be decided by you! Donnis’ Fresh ATL Style Makes Him A ‘Hottest Breakthrough MCs Of 2010’ Candidate

Fans decide our ‘Hottest Breakthrough MC of 2010’ — vote now! The winner will be revealed on July 25. By Steven Roberts Donnis Photo: MTV News “Hottest Breakthrough MCs of 2010” Candidate: Donnis Donnis sticks out like a sore thumb when you compare him to others in the Atlanta rap scene. In fact, with outlandish, oversize personalities like Gucci Mane, Waka Flocka Flame and Young Jeezy, he probably has a tough time getting noticed. But the young ATLien is paving his own lane. When Donnis released his first mixtape, Diary of an ATL Brave, last year, more and more fans took notice. The mixtape’s “everyman rap” helped him land a spot in XXL ‘s 2010 Freshmen 10 issue . Donnis recently released his latest mixtape, Fashionably Late, which he said was a whole different experience. When MTV News caught up with Donnis at the photo shoot for T.I.’s clothing line, Akoo , he said he was a lot more comfortable this time around. “The last one [ Diary of an ATL Brave ], I was at my mom’s crib, trying to get it in, sleeping on the floor in Brooklyn, and I ain’t, like, super great now, but it’s a lot more comfortable,” Donnis explained. “I think [there’s] a lot more confidence when you get co-signs from people like [Jason Jeter] and Tip and Needles and Killer Mike calling your phone. It’s some of your idols,” he added. “When they telling you good job, and XXL giving you an XL on your first time out, it gives you a little confidence.” Despite the high praise and acknowledgement, Donnis said he’s still hungry. He also said he’s planning to work with some of his fellow up-and-coming MCs. He’s good friends with Pill and Freddie Gibbs, and they plan to collaborate. He’s had discussions with Jay Rock and even Wiz Khalifa about doing a remix of his song “Gone.” Donnis and 19 other up-and-coming MCs are in the running to become MTV News’ “Hottest Breakthrough MC of 2010” — and the winner will be decided by you! Cole J. Cole might be rolling with Roc Nation, but the North Carolina rhyme-spitter will be carrying the torch all by himself on his still-untitled solo album, due later this year. For his debut, Cole said he doesn’t expect to have any features, and the collection has been produced entirely by himself and veteran beatsmith No I.D. “I might get a last-second Jay-Z appearance. Curren$y Becomes ‘Hottest Breakthrough MCs Of 2010’ Contender With Help From Dame Dash

MC is poised to make his major-label debut on the re-launched Roc-A-Fella. By Jayson Rodriguez Curren$y Photo: Roc-A-Fella/Def Jam “Hottest Breakthrough MCs of 2010” Candidate: Curren$y The Hot Spitta’s been pursuing happiness longer than most on the “Hottest Breakthrough” list. A few years ago, Lil Wayne introduced Curren$y to the world with their rumbling collaboration “Where Tha Cash At,” also featuring Remy Ma. But the New Orleans native hasn’t truly had a moment until recently. His deal with Young Money was severed due to creative differences, and he released two indie projects in the meantime. Now, though, Curren$y is aligned with Damon Dash’s DD172 studio and the hip-hop mogul’s partnership with Creative Control, a cutting-edge visual content company. The result is his forthcoming Pilot Talk. It’s not only his major-label debut but also the first effort from the re-launched Roc-A-Fella Records under Dash and Def Jam. “I call it opposite world,” Curren$y told MTV News about his deferred dreams. “That’s what I’ve named it. I’ve been doing this for a minute, and I’ve grown accustomed to things just not really panning out. But I still have a good time, so it don’t really matter. But this time, I keep waiting. “To know that [Dash] wasn’t trying to be involved in music — he reached out to do the Black Roc project to do a verse and both got so cool and knew that was it,” he continued. “I been to a million meetings, and that really wasn’t a meeting. We just kicked it. Might as well get money at the same time.” Since joining forces with Dash, Curren$y has helped recruit Mos Def and Jay Electronica into the fold, as the three plan have been collaborate on a project together. And as the de facto leader of the DD172 movement, the warbly-voiced MC has helped Wiz Khalifa and Big K.R.I.T. raise their profile by trading woozy verses with them on their mixtape projects. They all share a similar vibe, featuring laid-back production and music that’s perfect to listen to in candy-painted rides. According to Curren$y, their sound is the foundation for their current rise. “The music is progressive, and people are receptive to it, because [most other] music sounds the same,” he said. “Everything sounds the same. Really, they’re doing us a favor by staying like that. People want to be relevant so bad that once they see somebody win, they do exactly what that person did and they stop doing what they do. Except for us. So continue to do that. We think it’s awesome.” Curren$y and 19 other up-and-coming MCs are in the running to become MTV News’ “Hottest Breakthrough MC of 2010” — and the winner will be decided by you!
