Fernando Meirelles Will Give Aristotle Onassis The Godfather Treatment

No one in Hollywood has come close to recreating the epic tapestry of power, politics and family (not to mention machine gun murders) onscreen that Mario Puzo and Francis Ford Coppola established with The Godfather . That doesn’t mean they aren’t trying. Just today, director Fernando Meirelles ( The Constant Gardener ) and screenwriter Bráulio Mantovani ( City of God ) announced that they are developing a similarly ambitious project which will center on Greek shipping magnate Aristotle Onassis, his sketchy business dealings and his sketchier involvement with the Kennedy family.

Atlas Shrugged, Conspirator Get Political in Search For Box-Office Respect

Rio might have flown away with number one, but the real stories of the weekend box-office might be a pair of films that didn’t even make the top 10. And if their companies’ reactions are any indication, they are not done yet. But is this really just about the money?

Winona Ryder, James Franco Set for Mind-Warping Drama The Stare

An artist struggles with her latest work, haunted by paranoid visions to the point that she questions her sanity. Is it just us, or does Winona Ryder’s next film, The Stare , sound a little — okay, a lot — like her last film, Black Swan ? Fine. Black Swan didn’t also have James Franco portraying some sort of performer. That doesn’t sound familiar, either.

Ron and Clint Howard on The Dilemma, Improv and What’s Up With Arrested Development

To hear Ron Howard tell it, the key element of his new film The Dilemma is surprise: Tonal twists from comedy to thriller to drama and pathos back again, frequently without warning and with little indication of which character will turn up where — or how or why they’ll do it. Perhaps it was inevitable, then, that I walked into a chat with the filmmaker to find his younger brother, the actor (and Ron Howard stock player) Clint Howard would be joining. Score!

Green Horny Weekend: Theater Report 1-14-11

Big budget superhero flick The Green Hornet and Ron Howard ‘s romantic comedy The Dilemma filled up mainstream theater screens with non-nude cinema fare. But luckily limited release indie flicks Barney’s Version and Every Day came through to save the weekend with quality T&A. The Green Hornet Cameron Diaz keeps her costume on in The Green Hornet , so if you want to take the sting out of that non-nude appearance, go pick up the 1996 flick Feeling Minnesota . You’ll be feeling something else when you check out the rare glimpses of Cameron’s T&A at the 3- and 26-minute marks. The Dilemma Jennifer Connelly and Winona Ryder are showing de-nada in The Dilemma , so if you want to see Jennifer nude, fast-forward to the 1-hour, 26-minute mark of the 1990 skinstant classic The Hot Spot , where her mamtastic melons are on display on the beach. To see Ms. Ryder’s sliders, check out her one and only topless scene an hour and 50 minutes into 2007’s Sex and Death 101 . In this class, Winona has a C…cup! Barney’s Version Nude in theaters, Minnie Driver and Rosamund Pike costar in Barney’s Version. Ms. Driver keeps her minnies covered, but an hour and 18 minutes in, Rosamund’s rightie makes an appearance in bed with Paul Giamatti . And at the one hour, forty-minute mark we even get some bonus boobage from topless Sandra Lavoie . Nice, but where’s the X-rated version? Every Day Also nude in theaters, Carla Gugino stars in Every Day . She shows off her bikini body in the pool about 45 minutes in. But the real action comes at the one hour, eight minute-mark, when Carla gives us a peek at her bare butt getting out of the pool in her first nude scene since she turned the 2005 flick Sin City into skin city. Now there’s an ass you really could look at every day.

Kevin James To Star In Mixed Martial Arts Film

‘Paul Blart: Mall Cop’ star will play a physics teacher moonlighting as a mixed martial arts fighter. By Adam Rosenberg Photo: David Livingston/ Getty Mall cop Paul Blart, better known as Kevin James , is trading in his security uniform for boxing trunks. The actor is all set to go another round with Sony — after “Paul Blart: Mall Cop,” “Grown-Ups” and 2011’s “The Zookeeper” — for a mixed martial arts movie. James will star in the as-yet-untitled feature as a physics teacher who decides to moonlight as a mixed martial arts fighter when the school he works for faces budget cuts, Deadline reports. Whatever his initial intentions are, the main character proves talented enough to land a gig as a fighter in the UFC. Sony is reportedly fast-tracking the film to shoot next year, presumably for a 2012 release. James will also produce with Todd Garner (“Blart” and “Knight and Day”), and the script comes from Allan Loeb (“The Switch”). The actor also has a role in another Loeb-scripted comedy, early 2011 release “The Dilemma,” directed by Ron Howard and starring Vince Vaughn, Winona Ryder and Channing Tatum alongside James. “The Zookeeper” opens next summer, starring James as the titular caretaker, an overweight, lonely guy who decides to get out into the world and meet someone. Seeing this, the animals at the zoo he so loves reveal their great secret — they can talk — and, in doing so, teach their friend how to get his groove on. Rosario Dawson stars as the live-action female lead. The film also features the voice talents of Sylvester Stallone, Adam Sandler, Judd Apatow, Cher and others. Loeb has been busy promoting a pair of 2010 releases that he scripted, the Jason Bateman/Jennifer Aniston-starring rom-com “The Switch” (which he also produced) and the soon-to-be-released long-awaited sequel “Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps.” In addition to “The Dilemma,” Loeb also worked or is working on the upcoming Sandler/Aniston comedy “Just Go With It,” actioner “Protection” and high-profile reboot/remake “Escape From New York.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .

Black Swan’s Venice Debut: Is This The Psycho Ballerina Movie We’ve Been Waiting For?

On its face, Darren Aronofsky’s Black Swan would seem to have something for everybody: lesbian kisses (for the masses), art house appeal (for the film snobs), and a supporting part for Winona Ryder (for Winona Ryder’s agent). So how is the film being received after its Venice Film Festival debut?
