A Martin County High School English in Florida, Olivia Sprauer, says she lost her job because her bikini modeling side job got the principal’s attention. She posed in clothing you might see on any beach in America, but this educator said her swimsuit pics got her banned from for good from her classroom. Olivia Sprauer, 26, who models under the name Victoria James, said she decided to pose for bikini photos this winter even though she knew the risk. “Lots of teachers get fired or asked to resign for the same things I did,” Sprauer said. “I knew I didn’t want to come back next year and I knew I wanted to go to grad school so I decided if I made it to the end of the year I would be happy.” Unfortunately for Sprauer, she didn’t quite make it. Last week, she was called into principal Alfred Fabrizio’s office and pretty much told to hit the road. Sprauer said the principal showed her one of her modeling photos and, after she confirmed the picture was of her, she was asked to resign that day. “I felt like it would have been nice for my students to finish out the year,” Sprauer said. “They trusted me and they made me happy so that aspect of it was sad.” The Martin County School District would only confirm that Olivia Sprauer, who taught freshmen and juniors, is no longer employed at the school. Sprauer said she feels she did nothing wrong: “I don’t make pornography. I don’t open my legs on camera. I take swimsuit glamour style photography.” As for her students’ reactions to the scandal that ended her tenure? “They are happy for me,” Sprauer said. “They know I love them.” The boys, we imagine, are particularly happy she did this. Chelone Miller, the brother of Olympic Gold Medal skiier Bode Miller, died on April 7 of a seizure. He was 29 years old. The sad news was announced today, as U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association President Bill Marolt confirmed the passing was a result of a motorcycle accident in 2005 that left Chelone in a coma for 11 days. “Chelone Miller was an aspiring elite athlete who had made great progress as a snowboardcross rider this past season,” Marolt said in a statement. “We are all deeply saddened at the news of his death and extend our condolences to the entire Miller family.” Miller had been focusing on snowboardcross in an effort to qualify for the 2014 Winter Olympics. Just last month he won the Rahlves Banzai Tour overall title with a victory in Sugar Bowl, California. Bode, meanwhile, was crowned the overall World Cup champion in 2005 and 2008 and earned a gold medal in the super combined at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics. Our thoughts go out to the Miller family.
A man who stole a woman’s purse mistakenly ran through a glass door at an Australian mall, then managed to get away even after he was left knocked out, according to video from Reuters. The video shows a man running through a corrider, through the glass and lying face down for several moments. Initially, bystanders who were unaware the situation tried to help, Reuters says, but an alleged accomplice eventually dragged him to a car, Reuters says. A tattoo-shop owner tried to intervene and hold the suspect, but he let go when he was threatened with a gun, the video says. And he still got away? azcentral.com
