In new interview, Paramore talk about moving on from the Farros and inspiring fans. By James Montgomery Paramore Photo: MTV News Paramore are moving forward, with a song-a-month “Singles Club” and plans for a new album in 2012. But in the new issue of Alternative Press (on newsstands December 1), they aren’t shying away from the past either. For the magazine’s cover story, Paramore discuss the departure of founding members Josh and Zac Farro last winter and how it forced them to realize that perhaps they had been approaching the business of being in a band from the wrong angle. Namely, they forgot all about the fun. “We’ve always enjoyed what we do,” guitarist Taylor York told the magazine, “but we’d watch other bands on tour with us, and they would just be having a blast. They’d be in vans, all cramming in one hotel room. Every day, they were just stoked to be there. In my head, I’m like, ‘Either they’re just really mistaken, or we’re missing something. I don’t think it’s possible to have that much fun.’ ” “I felt so bad for the longest time, because we made being in a band look like it wasn’t fun,” frontwoman Hayley Williams added. “In my opinion. Other people might not have thought that, but you imagine all the interviews we did where it was just like, ‘Uhh … ‘ ” Gee, wonder which interview she’s referring to? Still, after surviving the split with the Farros, Paramore rediscovered the joy of being in a band while on tour in South America, and that’s what gave them the desire to press on with a new album. “This winter, when Zac and Josh left, we went through a really hard time,” York said. “I think we had to go through that. We all love each other, but we had to come together so closely that we really rediscovered how much we really love each other — and how much we love playing music. We had to go through that to realize what we had.” Recharged, Paramore are pressing on with their new record — one that, from the sound of things, will be a spirited affair indeed. “It’s important for young people to know how much fun it is to make music with your friends,” Williams said. “You have to fight for it, of course, but it’s the biggest gift to play music for people, and it’s a gift even if you’re not playing for anybody. It’s fun, and I’m excited. We’re stoked to have that spirit revolving around this [forthcoming] album and just relax into the process.” What are you expecting from Paramore’s next album? ‘It’s a visual spectacle, and the 3-D only adds to that,’ actor says of film, in theaters Friday. By Kara Warner Henry Cavill in “The Immortals” Photo: Universal Pictures For lovers of big-budget, sweeping Greek hero-based epics, the stylized, intense and slightly foreboding promotional campaign for “Immortals” should have already convinced you to get thee to a theater stat when the film opens on Friday. However, for those who might shy away from blood and gore, the stars of the film insist there is a lot more going on in “Immortals” than in typical testosterone-fueled swords-and-sandals flicks. “People are going to think it’s just a guy movie. It’s gonna be all just about violence and it is just for guys,” Henry Cavill , who plays demi-god Theseus, told MTV News recently. “This is entirely different. This has that very strong aspect, which all guys are going to love, the sort of blood and gore and swords and fighting, but it’s so beautifully done. This is Tarsem Singh we’re talking about here, it’s a visual spectacle, and the 3-D only adds to that. “I will say in the past I’ve been skeptical of [3-D, but] after seeing this, the technology has come along so far. This is incredible, and all the violence in the movie, if people don’t like that, it’s actually art-ified,” he explained. “It becomes a ‘beautific’ ballet of blood if you will. That all aside, it’s an incredible love story as well. You often think of these Greek epics — it skirts over all that stuff — but you’ve got an incredibly hardened man who’s hardened his heart to anything at this stage, and there’s a woman who manages to soften him so much so that he starts to think of things which he’s never even considered in the past.” Cavill’s co-stars were equally enthusiastic in their recommendations. “It’s like nothing I’ve ever seen,” Luke Evans , who plays Zeus, added. “Like Henry said, Tarsem at the helm with his imagination and his enthusiasm and his ideas, it just married so well with what he was doing and the final production. L.A. County Coroner’s Office and Heavy’s cousin reveal rapper’s ailment to New York’s Daily News. According to Ed Winter of the Los Angeles County Coroner’s office, the beloved artist, born Dwight Errington Myers, was already ill before he collapsed Tuesday morning just outside his Beverly Hills condominium. “He had gone to the doctor the day before,” Winter told New York’s Daily News. “He had what appeared to be flu-like symptoms.” “He said he had a touch of pneumonia, maybe from traveling,” cousin Ruddy Phillips, 50, told the Daily News after speaking with the entertainer’s dad. “He just got back from England.” The Overweight Lover was conscious though experiencing trouble breathing when he was transported to Cedars Sinai Medical Center after a 911 call was placed at 11:25 a.m. PT on his behalf Tuesday. However, he was pronounced dead at 1 p.m. PT. Although an autopsy has been performed, the coroner is declining to announce any cause of death until toxicology tests are conducted due to Heav taking various medications. The Mount Vernon, New York, rapper’s death hit many close to heart, including Eddie F, who along with dancers G Wiz and the late Trouble T Roy were the “Boyz” in Heavy D & the Boyz. The DJ and producer called into MTV News’ “RapFix Live” on Wednesday and revealed how he found out about the unfortunate news. “I had gotten a call from a few of the guys from our crew, and I thought they were calling me about something else that we were working on,” Eddie F told MTV News . “They told me the news, and at first I didn’t believe ’em. I was like, ‘There’s no way.’ And then I got a call from G Wiz, and then I started making calls. I actually spoke to Andre Harrell, and he had Puff on the other line and everybody was just getting information and really just hysterical. From there, we started getting bits and pieces in.” Heavy D & the Boyz were the first act record executive Andre Harrell signed to his Uptown Records, which released the act’s debut, Living Large, in 1987. While at Uptown, Sean “Diddy” Combs got his start in the music industry as Harrell’s intern. Naturally, they all became close friends with the universally adored Heavy D, whose music was well regarded by all types of music fans. “Heavy was always a class act,” Eddie F said. “The thing that he did that may be apparent, but maybe a lot of people didn’t pay attention to it, he was the type of rapper like the hardest, hardest, hard rock was a fan of his, and he would move on the street. But then he was also respectful and your mother, your grandmother could listen to Heavy D.
